Merry Christmas, friends! I got you some festive (and hopefully useful) gifts to celebrate, because what else are friends for? First off, I got you all a planner for the upcoming year. Hopefully, it will be useful in the upcoming year when you continue to do amazing things. The next gift was definitely a labor of love, but I crocheted everyone some ornaments for your tree. Hoping it looks nice on your tree in the upcoming year! Next, I got cozy slippers, because who doesn't like festive slippers? for  some  reason  i  didn't  think  mandy  would  confront  me  about  this  now.   it's  been  years  since  she  had  brian  jr,   years  since  i  tried  and  failed  to  move  down  to  north  dakota  to  raise  my  son.   the  kid  was  seven  years  old  now  and  i  was  failing  every  day  to  not  make  the  same  mistakes  that  frank  had  made  with  me.   mandy  and  brian  jr  had  come  to  philly  to  visit,   they  did  that  sometimes,   i  just  hadn't  expected  to  have  such  a  serious  conversation  about  it  right  now. 

"i'm  not  running  away." i  lie,   arms  moving  to  cross  over  my  chest.   i'm  thankful  that  dee  had  agreed  to  watch  brian  jr  for  the  afternoon,   he  didn't  need  to  hear  this  conversation.  "i  have  to  be  here,   in  philly.   i  own  a  bar,   mandy." that's  the  excuse  i  had  come  up  with,  right?  that  i  needed  to  be  here  to  keep  an  eye  on  business?  it's  easier  than  admiting  the  truth,   admitting  that  i was running  away  as  fast  as  i  could.   admitting  that  confronting  my  problems  so  i  could  be  a  half-way  decent  parent  was  too  terrifying  of  an  idea.   admitting  that  i  couldn't  function  without  the  group  of  assholes  i  called  my  friends. 

"we  can  organize  more  visits,  if  that's  what  you're  worried  about.   i  can  come  down  once  a  month,   or  you  guys  can  come  here." is  that  what  this  is  about?  i  honestly  don't  know  anymore.   i  let  out  a  sigh,   hand  raising  to  pinch  the  bridge  of  my  nose.   why  must  the  consequences  of  my  actions  always  follow  me  around  like  this?  "if  i  was  running  away  i  wouldn't  facetime  with  you  guys  once  a  week,   i  wouldn't  have  you  come  here  to  visit,   i  wouldn't  come  down  to  visit.   just  ...  i  don't  know  why  we're  talking  about  this  mandy."
