I can see it now. “Here’s your Christmas present and your future grandchild, all wrapped up in one adorable, slobbering package.” But seriously, I get it. The whole gift thing just feels like this weird, forced dance now, you know? Like, “Here’s a sweater you’ll pretend to love, and I’ll take this candle I didn’t ask for.” I’m with you—skip the stress, go straight for the dinner. And hey, if you need a buffer for the next "When are you having kids?" convo, just say the word. I’ve been told I’m great at distractions.

And part of it is like, do we really have to still go through this pretense? Can't we just have a nice dinner, skip the presents entirely, and call it a day? Honestly, it's almost comical how often she brings it up now. That might not be too bad of an idea, actually. Tell her I'm trying to give her gift ideas and also fulfill her long dream of becoming a grandma in one.

I wish I could get into reading like that, but I’ve never been much of a reader. I guess I just prefer watching shows or scrolling through social media for my entertainment. But if you’re looking for something romantic, I’ve heard great things about The Rosie Project. It’s supposed to be really cute and funny! As for psychological reads, maybe something like The Silent Patient? I've seen a lot of buzz about it, so maybe it's worth checking out?

Something I didn't realized I missed until recently was reading. It's been so long since I've been able to make time for myself and last weekend I was finally able to and sat down to read. It was very therapeutic and entertaining. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm mostly interested in romance (not the dirty kind) or a good psychological read.

When it comes to my kid, there's nothing or no one I care about more. That's good of you, I think, growing up normal is good for kids, don't want them too sheltered or too spoiled or whatever. Yeah, she'll read anything horror or non fiction, I don't know what that is but I'm hoping she'll pick up some new shit because what she reads now is sad and spooky.

i enjoy eagerness, it means that you care. i never put maren in fancy school, i wanted to give her the chance to be as normal as she could be, given the circumstances. does maya like to read? we could run into each other by "accident" at a book store.

Quinn: So, almost two weeks is a completely respectable amount of time to stick to a New Year's resolution, right? Quinn: Asking for a friend. Obviously.

Uhh.. no. Quinn is kinda like the sun or the stars or something, nothing could really go above that - there's not much of a point to keep looking when you've already got, like, the Super Bowl ring of girlfriends.

       ten years was a weird mile marker for quinn. most people just marked ten years as the point of which they graduated high school. but the girl quinn was ten years ago was a completely different person than quinn was now.

        ten years meant that quinn had spent a decade trying to save that lost girl she had been in high school. ten years meant that beth was now in middle school.  ten years meant that the look finn hudson was giving her was not supposed to affect her this way.

         she caught his gaze from across the room. they had already spoken, but this had been a handful of times that they had played this game throughout the night. she’d look over her shoulder until he caught her and vice versa. for someone who wanted to repress high school as much as possible, finn hudson made that theory totally moot. 

         or maybe this could be a fluke. maybe they needed one last go before they parted ways for another decade.

          she finished off the remainder of wine in her glass before she sat it down at the nearest table, walking towards the exit closest to finn, brushing her fingers gingerly along his lower back as she passed him, continuing her stride for the door. she couldn’t stop the smirk from spreading across her lips as she heard his shoes against the lobby floor as she made her way for the elevator. 

          his hand stopped the elevator doors from closing, and she had already pressed the button for her hotel room’s floor. her eyes flickered up to meet his, and they were both wearing a knowing expression. before she could process it, his lips were on hers, and she released a moan as her back hit the wall of the elevator behind her. her fingers tangled in his brown locks as her lips hungrily tried to make up for the decade they had missed.

         they stumbled out of the elevator together, and she laughed as he attacked the sensitive spot on her neck while she fumbled in her clutch for her hotel room key. she swiped the card and pushed into the door, grinning as she tugged him in by the neck tie. 

         then, she snapped back into reality, her green eyes blinking quickly as she glanced around the full ballroom. she cleared her throat and glanced back over to finn, who happened to be glancing back at her. a soft smile spread across her lips as she took her drink with her, brushing past him on the way to the exit.

QUINN HAD BEEN GROOMED TO TAKE OVER THE BUSINESS SINCE SHE WAS A KID. her father was a proud irish man who was adamant about the reigns of the business remaining within the confines of the gene pool. she knew there were members who were opposed to being lead by a woman. but she did not care. one day it would be her turn to lead but for now she acted as her father’s right hand woman. they were scouting new members for a bank job and she was to survey each one before she passed them along to her father.

the first recruit was a young blonde man that was roughly her age. when he walked through the door she was alerted by one of her people. she approached him slowly, her steps long and languid before he approached him. “ sam evans is it? “ she asked extending her hand for him to shake. “ I’m quinn fabray.” she introduced herself sitting down next to him. “ what makes you think you’ll impress my father? “

distance.   that double - edged comfort,  coddling her during moments of lowly bargaining.   her safe retreat when backed into a corner,   the refusal to move from the prison of her own making until she alone is ready.   call it setting her own boundaries,  or the negligence of those around her.   addressing what troubled her during personal affairs was never her strongest attribute,  rather the opposite.   a sharp contradiction to her natural incapability of biting her tongue otherwise.   she would talk,   but it would take time.   callie would let minor hostilities augment underneath a remote disposition before she spoke up,  her head replaying all unfortunate possibilities until confrontation was inevitable.

this time, it is not her that breaks silence.  stripped of the convenience to come around on her own,  callie’s burden is instead facing it.    “   i was never was.  ”    a lingering veil of secrecy embittered the overdue confession.    she navigated in the place between.  nothing set in black or white.  nothing as simple.   but there was truth in what she told,  an element of transparency in every word,   if the other chose to accept it.   “   i’m sorry that i’ve been . . .  ”    avoiding her,  brushing her off with a cold shoulder at every turn?   overexertion from work was one excuse,  but it only extended so far.    “   really,  it’s fine.  the other day was nothing.  just an already long one that never seemed to end.  there is nothing to be mad at.  ”
