Reading what the anni Servant is is like going down a flight of stairs, but you're missing every step and eating shit all the way down.

So, review time, this is what I mean when i keep talking about how most of the audience doesnt matter to people who make gacha, and casting a wide net etc.

This is always the endpoint of gachas no matter how good or bad they start out. We've seen this with Genshin and how when it finally started to fall off, instead of implementing things most fans wanted they created an entirely new game with those requested features but kept Genshin as is and instead used it to springboard a new gacha.

the sea creature comparisons with gacha players aren't arbitrary, it's about WHY non whales matter in the first place. It's about how fishing works and net sizes.

When mass fishing as, the mesh size is very important, as in the distances between each section of the net. The reason for this is that when mass fishing for a specific market, you dont want your haul to consist of unintended fish who live in the same area that then have to spend that much more time being sorted through and tossed back. Basically it's a way of selectively filtering out the small fry.

You can probably already see where I'm going with this. Gacha does the same thing. it casts a massively wide net that will surround all sorts of players but as that net gets pulled in, all but the biggest catches will slip out of the net because they never mattered in the first place, it was just about maximizing the small concentrated number of big fish. The whales. Fuck everything else, it can be filtered out, it's not efficient to even try to catch them.

And so, these "massive" gacha who "are different, this one's good" end up in the exact same place every time.

yknow sometimes i think no ones really interested in fgo anymore and then i find out that a jp player just beat the fucking impossible 3.5 billion hp unbeatable ORT story fight in LB7

if you thought the "someone beat the kirschtaria unwinnable story fight by using command seal refreshes over a few days" was a wild story, sit your ass down because frankly this shit is insane; it took them 108ish days and over 40 THOUSAND turns of making an unkillable comp to grind the fight. the game breaks down after 2 weeks irl of battle by "server connection error" so to prevent that and not get forcibly booted they played the whole thing on airplane mode, MEANING that they also didn't get command seal refreshes for this ordeal

fgo players will have even the most depraved perverts running for the hills with this type of dedication and willpower

I'd argue even then the art is only good on a technical level. Like, linework and stuff. Even the blatant racism (and it is flat out racism with zero excuse or nuance) aside, it's....not a good design? At all?

This is the ugliest and most boring "grand servant" ever conceived, sorry.

Quetz may be whitewashed as well but ya know what her design has? Personality. It isn't just "random white person in generic tribalistic clothes" it's an actual design with color and life and immediately tells you something about the character in question.

Remember when the LB7 trailer released? Remember when everyone on the planet thought what was actually Camazotz was the design for Tez? Remember how everyone thought the random white guy in GAP clothes must be Bluebook, because it was literally just some guy? Don't you think those impressions being ubiquitous says more bad things about how those designs were actually used than anything else? Cause it sure as hell wasn't "Subverting expectations". Or maybe it was, with emphasis on the sarcasm.

Oh also don't think it wasn't obvious just how much people suddenly started defending this abomination of a design after talk about "oh some really famous guy drew it" started circulating and when people started making the incredibly stupid Oberon comparison. Neither of those things make it any less shit a design, let alone any less racist.

come on guys are we really praising tezcatlipoca's design as good and cool just because seeing it made nasu pull an oberon and use the character more prominently. the art is good in a bubble, the character design could be good in a bubble, but it does not exist in a bubble. this character design was specifically made for and applied inappropriately to an aztec deity. oberon was good, sure, but we're talking about white tezcatlipoca here. white skinned blonde-haired tezcatlipoca. congressman tezcatlipoca. "it's just like oberon, nasu saw a good design and" what? a what design? like god i know everyone kind of let quetz slide but a whitewashed character design that is part of a larger pattern of whitewashing is actually a good design now if it's these particular guys doing it?

I'm going to be very controversial for some but I was ready to talk racism since blond, white, green eye FGO Quetzalcoatl.

Lostbelt 7 was way worse, yes but they showed no respect since the beginning.

Yes, a lot of Mexican and Latino players will say they still like Quetz, but that doesn't erase the fact they whitewashed a mesomerican deity.

And the alien factor? Waaaaaay worse. Just stop TypeMoon, don't do it.

And I do like Camazotz design but he is the only monstrous/aggressive one, coincidentally the only brown one lol.

yeah honestly quetz being allowed to slide as much as she did back when she was the only major one with this problem was evidently a huge mistake considering what we fucking got with lostbelt 7. i suppose it's one thing if you make an exception for one of them because you're taking what you can get or hope they do better later, but when we then get fucking 4/5 whitewashed designs and the 5th one having his own issues (and actually i guess a 6th one depending on if or not you count lawnchair bdsm xochitónal kingprotea), on top of the thematic issues with several of the writing choices of the actual story, and they just keep fucking getting praised for it, it starts to get a bit maddening. especially on top of how egregiously demeaning the australian aboriginal-themed summer event was just after that. people treat fgo with kiddy gloves for the same shit that the same people will mock genshin for. what are we communicating to type moon and each other at this point besides "making it a habit to repeatedly whitewash your characters is okay and i will implicitly or directly support it as long as you're a series i already like and you sell me any excuse at all."
