Ford’s fitness obsession

Much has been said about Ford bodyshaming Stan in Journal 3, usually focusing on the enraging (how dare Ford like that about Stan!), but today I present you: the hilarious. This is not going to be a very serious meta, just a silly compilation of Every Time Ford Acted Like That 💪✨ while I grow increasingly amused by how much Ford overcompensates for his baby self’s wimpiness!

A Tale of Two Stans, the very episode that introduces us to Ford’s personality and his shared history with Stan, starts with their baby selves running—more specifically, Stan easily leading and Ford trying and failing to keep up.

Ford: “Wait up!” Stan: “Yeah, you should keep up!” Ford, a little defensive: “I can keep up!”

Then, of course, the scene in which Stan invites Ford to punch down the thing. Ford, poor weakling that he is, pathetically fails. (I’m talking affectionately. He’s my meow meow.) Stan can’t resist the chance to tease him:

That’s just confirming a hint we got from Not What He Seems: that Ford’s worst subject was Physical Education.

Journal 3, too, starts with this:

“If my brother hadn’t shielded me and punched one of the other kids in the nose, I might have spent the rest of the year in the hospital.”

And what does Ford do for the rest of his life?

He overcompensates.

That’s it. That’s the post.

Narratively, Ford taking a level in badass also serves his purpose of being the biggest chip on Stan’s shoulder the writers could think of. As Alex phrased it in his recent interview by HanaHyperfixates and ThatGFFan, “He has to be… like, fitter, and better at fighting than Stan too, like, not, like, he’s not gonna be some little shrinking nerd, [...].” Of course Stan can’t have this for himself.

In-universe, too, he has so much fun being athletic and agile and dunking on other peoples’ physical appearance/prowess that I genuinely think it’s one of the most underrated parts of his character.

Indisputable proof Ford has no qualms about bodyshaming a crush of his, Tesla.

Nor his brother, for that matter:

Stan was right. He was showing off, and could easily have used the door, but what would be the fun in that? How would people know how athletic he was, then? But you gotta give it to Ford: this wasn’t just impressive for a man in his sixties, this was impressive, period. I bet most readers of this post don’t know a single young person that can do that!

That was nasty, Stanford.

Ford internally, probably: “Dipper surely thinks I’m so cool.” Dipper internally: “He’s so cool!”

Had a dream where Marcille made a Totk-esque dragon version of herself that she could summon and switch her mind to for various reasons.

Ramblings about the dream and art process below:

In the dream the main reason was to protect herself (and furina who was also there for some reason??) from an assassination attempt. Technically she succeeded because she didn't die BUT it was only because her mind and soul were evenly split between the dragon body and her body which was able to somehow keep them both alive.

Furina died tho rip to a queen I guess (tho technically she was already dead shes basically puppeting her own corpse literally all the time according to the dream, like her body is "alive" but her soul is in her gem thingy so she can "die" but as long as she has the gem she can resurrect herself infinitely and basically live forever, so to "kill" her they took the gem and are basically waiting for her body to expire, they can't break it cuz the gem is indestructible)

It was a weird dream all in all but I liked some of the designs, I have a doodle of furinas I might clean up. There was also a sense of unease for every character- Link was there too- and they all recognized they weren't supposed to be here and that the world around them was wrong. Like they could see that the logic didn't make sense, and that they shouldnt be able to do the things they do (furina resurrection and Marcille dragon)

But it wasn't a they are in a dream scenario (even tho yeah they were lol) they were taken from their world to a real place but that place was just wrong

She can! Though she uses is more scarcely. I also headcanon that werewolves can transform two ways: ghostly and physically.

Ghostly is how Hans does it against Seras; big spooky spirit stuff. It takes a lot of practice but also saves the user from pain. Physically is how Laura does it. Bones and muscles and organs expand; it takes no experience but is also quite painful.

The spirit form can be used to dodge and block attacks due to its incorporeality; however, Laura just tanks any attacks made at her 99% of the time. I wanted to emphasize the difference between her and Hans. Hans uses modern/"human" techniques of fighting and his powers to the most effective way, while Laura is extremely beastly and animalistic; her fighting style isn't martial arts, it's tearing stuff up and tanking anything thrown at her because she's used to the sting.

(I keep nuts in my bag and I feed the crows by my apartment like.... once a day minimum, and they follow me everywhere and it's the sweetest little thing. When they see me and they get all excited when I shake my backpack and it's sorhefj I love corvids so so so much.)

Corvids, especially crows and ravens, being incredibly devoted and protecting those who gave them kindness and comfort. And the way they mate for life, and they form packs and bonds. And when you're with them you're with them for life. They remember your face, the little mannerisms that form you I just rtgejfds I love corvids so so so much. I love found families with bird motifs, especially corvid motifs.
