This was quite a pleasant surprise, an old fashioned undertakers and furniture makers all rolled into one. Of course, years ago the local carpenter, cabinet maker or even builder, was also the local undertaker. Nowadays the two professions are more or less separate. Some very sad new to announce this evening. Peter Stefan, funeral director, campaigner and author has died. This has come as a shock to many people both in and out of the funeral profession. I recently read his book ‘Mumblings of a Mortician’ and was really moved by the stories in it. It’s a fantastic book and I managed to finish it in three days. I couldn’t put it down. Peters death was announced on Facebook a short while ago. No details have been given. He had dedicated his life to helping those on the margins of society burying the poor and the outcasts that no body else wanted to deal with. It’s really frustrating to be classed as a key worker and not being able to go to work to do your bit to help in the battle against Coronavirus. Three months away from my work in funeral service and my work as a chaplaincy volunteer at the BHI. However there is a little light at the end of the tunnel. I was contacted by the chaplaincy asking if I wanted to be part of the chaplaincy outreach programme giving over the phone support to NHS workers in the community?
