Furcraea foetida (Giant Cabuya, Green-aloe or Mauritius-hemp, Маврикийская конопля) is a species of flowering plant native to the Caribbean and northern South America.
The genus Furcraea is related to Agave, and they have the same growing habit of waiting many years to reach maturity, then sending up a giant stalk and coming into flower at the ends of their lives. Furcraea quicheensis is an uncommon species, native to the Mexico-Guatemala border region. Like other species of Furcraea (but unlike Agave), it has pendulous flowers, in this case with a greenish-yellow color.

5 weathered shell fragments from dog cockles (Glycymeris glycymeris), and one from some other bivalve.

7 common cockle (Cerastoderma edule) shell halves.
and from Hayle town, growing in a roadside green next to Copperhouse Pool, three Furcraea parmentieri seed pods, two of which I sowed the seeds from, and the other one remains closed until spring. They germinated after 3 weeks. 🌱

27-09-17, Penzance, Cornwall: Furcraea sp. (either selloa or foetida, I think, does anyone else know?) with hundreds of bulbils on the inflorescence. If more had been within reach, I would have taken more home, but I acquired around 40, and I’ve now potted them up into the default gritty soil mix for succulents, and they’ll root over the next few weeks.
Mirabel’s mochila is made of fique (fiber obtained from the leaves of a succulent tropical Latin American plant of the genus Furcraea very common in Colombia) and cotton embroidery
