Today the class clarified a concept that i had in the back of my mind. whihc is gamification adn game based learning and i finally learned the difference. i thought i was interested in gamfication when in reality i was researching game based learning. this knowladge would have saved me houuuuurs. you see in my reasearch classes i was testing if The Pokemon Series would be useful for learning vocabulary. i concluded that it indeed was useful thanks to the reward system that it had which motivated the player such as the gym badges and the pokedex. Also, the fact that it has items such as color coded items and onomatopeias that helped a person understand the meaning of words. i hope some day i ca continue with this research.

23/11/2022 Research: What is an LMS?
What does LMS mean?
Learning management system. It is a software based platform that supports the administration, automation and delivery of learning courses, training programs or learning and development programs.
It can be used to support face-to-face training as well as blended or hybrid and distance learning environments.
Usually an LMS provides a way to create and deliver content, monitor learner participation and also asset performance. It may also provide access for learners to get involved in discussion threads and forums.
What is an LMS used for?
An LMS is used for knowledge management, for example: the gathering, organising, sharing and analysis.
Employee training and onboarding is one of the most common used in a corporate environment. This is used to help train new employees by providing opportunities to access training materials across various devices. Employees can add their own knowledge and feedback which helps employers understand how effective the training was and helps identify areas of improvement.
Another popular use is for employee development and retention. It can be used to assign the right courses to current employees so they can develop effective job skills, remain informed about changes and maintain relevant knowledge.
How do Learning Management Systems work?
They allow users to store and track information all in one place. Anyone with log ins can access the system and it's resources from any device making it perfect for distance learning and also in the office during busy intervals.
Successful LMSes include:
Responsive design - users should be able to access this from any device. Desktop, laptop or mobile phone. It should also allow users to download content so it's accessable when offline.
User friendly interface - It should be easy to navigate the system, It should align with the abilities and goals of both the organisation and the user and shouldn't confuse or distract users.
Reports and Analytics - Administrators must be able to view and track any initiatives to see if they are effective or need adjusting.
Course Management - Admins should be bale to make and manage courses to deliver a targeted learning experience.
Support Services - Different vendors offer different levels of support. Many provide discussion boards.
Social Learning Capabilities - LMS systems have started to include social media tools so users can interact with peers and share their learning experiences
Gamification - Allows admins to create courses with game mechanics or built in gamfication allowing for increased motivation and engagement. This could even mean an option for leader boards, points and badges.
Artificial Intelligence - This can help create personalised learning experiences for users. Suggestting topics suited to their needs or what they might find interesting. This is based on what they have already completed.
Benefits of an LMS system
Ability to monitor user progress and performance
Elearning accessibility without location limitations
Ability to personalise online training and learning experiences
Easy to ensure online training and learning materials are being distributed effectively
Effective training that is consistent
Easy to update and maintain learning materials
Can safely store all big data in one location
Popular LMSes for organisations
Adobe Captive Prime
Docebo Learning Suite
TalentLMS
Ispring LMS
Efront
Does DSG already have a learning management system?
We have RISE but not full access to this. I've been comparing our rise access to what they advertise on their website and believe we could use it for more or replace with Adobe/Docebo/TalentLMS
What can RISE do?
Rise has a catalog of ready made courses to use instantly
You can build your own training from scratch
You can import already built training
Can enroll individuals or group learners to courses and you can also add to a library and let learners self enroll

Day 9
SRHI=41
Great sleep, but felt groggy in the morning
Microcycle Priming
I ran an experiment yesterday where I did a number of tasks - both  normal things I wanted to do and things that I had been procrastinating on. I did all these tasks for a short period of time to figure to figure out how hard it was to move from one task to another. The idea is that ideally regimentation is an additional skill I want to learn - the process of moving smoothly from one task to another with no emotional carryover.
One thing I found is that even with a short amount of time doing the task it felt "sticky" - addictive - I found it hard to tear myself away from the task. I think this is a  good thing that should be explored because addiction is what runs gamification - gamification uses addiction to make skill acquisition...well...addictive.
Something that bears more experimentation.

RedCritter is a Dallas-based startup that is succeeding at the gamification of software development in a way that no one else is. But this is just the beginning, RedCritter CEO Mike Beaty told me last week when I wrote about his company here on Technology Review.
Beaty was able to reveal that the next products he plans on rolling out will gamify customer relations management and sales -- which is how the now-mighty Salesforce.com got started. He also hinted that the future could hold much more. In general, he implied, there is no reason that gamification can't be expanded to countless areas of white-collar work.
