[팸투어] Delicious Chinese food anytime! This Chinese restaurant with a 70-year tradition is a famous restaurant in Yeongdeungpo. Songjukjang is located near Yeongdeungpo Fire Station, Exit 5 of Yeongdeungpo Station on Subway Line 1. Songjukjang is a three-story single building and boasts a long history. This restaurant was listed in the 100 Year Stores selected by the Blue Ribbon and the Ministry of Small and Medium Business. The inside of the store has been freshly renovated through recent remodeling, and individual rooms and group seating are available. The menu is diverse, including jjajang, udon, jjambbong, ganjjajang, red pepper samseon jjamppong, sheepjangpi, palbochae, yusanseul, and sea cucumber soup. Jungmaru Park, Yeouido Saetgang Ecological Park and Times Square are nearby, so it is good to look around before or after a meal. If you look around the restaurant, most of the customers are eating this, jjajangmyeon. This is one of Songjukjang's/송죽장 signature menu. Jajangmyeon – Korea’s representative Chinese food
Jajangmyeon is the food that Koreans order the most with Chicken. It can be eaten quickly, is cheap, and can be called a national food. Jajangmyeon is a combination of Jajang and Noodle.Jajang is a sauce made by frying Chunjang with pork and onions. It is black which is difficult to find in food but it is not spicy, it is sweet and has a complex taste. Both Chunjang and Jajangmyeon started from…

I don't know why but I was expecting a more dramatic ending. But I think the normality of the stories in the last episode has made me not sadder to see its end. There is a feeling of goodbye, but there is also a possibility of "we can still meet again."
I think there will be a 3rd season but not very soon. And I'm totally okay with that. Because I feel like somewhere in the Yulje universe, they are continuing their own stories. Jeongwon and Gyeoul studying together in the US, Mama Rosa and Jongsun walking the pilgrimage in Camina de Santiago, Seokhyeong and Minha introducing each other to their parents, Junwan and Iksun still eating spicy ganjjajang, and Ikjun and Songhwa having camps with Uju. All while trying to save and touch their patients' lives.
And later, when they are ready again to continue, I'll be here waiting to listen again to their ordinary yet special stories and hear more of their amazing playlist.💜

PS. We still don't know what happened in Hawaii.💁‍♀️

Korea Day 7
I’ve generally avoided visiting Chinatowns during my Asia trip cause I like to joke that I’m from Chinatown (seriously the population of my hometown is almost entirely Chinese/Korean, even our Mcdonald’s sign has a Chinese/Korean version) but my friend really wanted to check out the Chinatown in Incheon so we went to check it out.
Tumblr media
The main gate or “paeru” has more of a traditional Korean color palette reminiscent of the various palaces we visited.
Tumblr media
There’s quite a bit packed into this small area and the attractions were different from the Chinatowns I’ve visited in the past.
Since we had a late start to the day we were both starving so we headed to lunch first at Mandabok, a jajeongmyeon specialty store. My grandma makes an amazing Chinese-style jajeongmyeon from scratch and I’ve had the Korean style in the past so I was interested to see the other variations this place offered. We got the white jajeongmyeon and the gochu haiyan ganjjajang.
Tumblr media
The white jajeongmyeon has a more viscous slimy texture since they add potato starch while the other is more of a ground meat type sauce. Both were absolutely delicious though.
We scarfed down our lunch and ended up way too full so it was time to walk it all off. We ended up getting a bit turned around and ended up on a detour toward Jayu Park/Freedom Park.
Tumblr media
We saw a staircase and decided to just follow it and we ended up in a lovely park with a nice view of Incheon.
Tumblr media
Lots of colorful flowers and a statue of General Macarthur at the center of the park. My friend informed me that Korea really respects him for his work during the Korean War.
Tumblr media
Such a nice peaceful shaded street. The park had a lot of Chinese tourists but this area was nice and quiet. I really wanted to nap on those benches...
After we finished our detour we finally found the actua area we intended to head toward, Fairytale Village. I was initially expecting a small park but this was more like a hidden neighborhood with lots of murals of European, Korean, and Disney fairytales. I didn’t know a lot of the stories but my friend shared the few she knew.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mural and fake house in reference to an old Korean story called Heungbu and Nolbu about a kind brother and a greedy brother.
Tumblr media
As we exited the village area we passed by a shop that sold dolphin shaped pizza and how could I resist? It was a unique flavor: “cream cheese.” It included cream cheese, mozzarella, tomato sauce, and of course raisins... Honestly it was pretty good though.
Tumblr media
One last Fairytale Village stop. Hansel and Gretel’s place but featuring donuts.
Next we headed over to the Jajamyeong Museum. Admission is only a dollar and they have some interesting displays about the history of the dish along with some general culinary facts. The place is fairly small and everything is in Korean though. Luckily my friend was able to give me the basic translation for everything.
Tumblr media
They had quite a few fake model restaurants that weren’t exactly necessary information wise but they made the experience much more visually appealing.
Tumblr media
My favorite sign was this one which talked about the reasons for the difference between Chinese, Korean, and Japanese chopsticks. The mystery is finally solved.
After the museum we headed toward the Three Kingdoms Mural Street. We first passed by border stairs that divided the Chinese and Japanese Settlements.
Tumblr media
Once we climbed the stairs we ended up on a side street full of gorgeous murals. The murals depicted an ancient Chinese story that I am ashamed to not have known... I asked my mom and she said she’s familiar with it because it’s considered one of the 4 must read stories of China.
Tumblr media
Definitely more artistic murals compared to the spots in Fairytale town. I didn’t even know the story but it made me really want to know it.
Next we were headed toward the Sinpo Market area but my friend and I spotted a rotating sushi bar called Sushi Min so neither of us could resist going in for a quick snack.
Tumblr media
Considering it’s Korean made sushi the rice was pretty decent and for $1.50 a plate (including the otoro), the price to quality ratio was great.
Even though we just ate we spent more than a few minutes walking around Sinpo Market just trying every free sample of snack food available. We eventually ended up at the booth with the longest line for Dakganjeong.
Tumblr media
Got some shopping done for my parents and left with a ton of tasty treats for later too.
Tumblr media
If tossing that chicken isn’t some food porn I don’t know what is.
We dropped of our stuff at the room then headed back to the Wolmi Island Amusement Park area where we took a quick ride on the Viking Ride.
Tumblr media
Knew we needed to get this done before we burned our mouths and stomachs with chicken.
And lastly we headed to the waterfront where we found a nice quiet spot to enjoy our delicious Dakganjeong chicken and Peach Sparkling wine from the local convenience store.
Tumblr media
The Dakganjeoung was delicious. I”m used to the yangnyeom chicken which is more popular in the US. Unlike the yangnyeon, the dakganjeong apparently uses rice syrup for sweetness which leads to a coating that gets tackier as the chicken cools but it still retains a crunchy bite.
Couldn’t have wished for a better last night in Korea (okay maybe a bit better, my friend was a bit too nauseous after the ride to eat much chicken.
