► Las herramientas paleolíticas encontradas en el yacimiento de Korolevo quedaron enterradas hace 1,42 millones de años, según la datación de sus sedimentos mediante métodos de física nuclear. El descubrimiento arroja luz sobre la llegada de los primeros humanos a Europa y el sentido este-oeste de su viaje. Por Enrique Sacristán Herramientas de piedra encontradas en el yacimiento de Korolevo (Ucrania). / Roman Garba Los primeros homininos o parientes de los humanos modernos llegaron a Eurasia hace entre uno y dos millones de años, pero la escasez de yacimientos arqueológicos de esa época paleolítica ha dificultado conocer de forma precisa cuándo ocurrió. En este contexto, el yacimiento de Korolevo, localizado en el oeste de Ucrania y uno de los más septentrionales del Paleolítico temprano, lleva proporcionando artefactos, como herramientas de piedra, desde la década de 1970. Ahora, un equipo internacional liderado por el arqueólogo e ingeniero Roman Garba de la Academia de las Ciencias de la República Checa ha determinado la edad exacta de los sedimentos en los que se enterraron esos artefactos. Los resultados, presentados esta semana en la revista Nature, señalan que tienen una antigüedad de 1,42 millones de años. El autor principal del estudio, Roman Garba, en el yacimiento ucraniano de Korolevo en 2023. / Roman Garba “Korolevo representa la primera presencia de homininos datada con seguridad en Europa, y salva la distancia espacial y temporal entre el Cáucaso (hace unos 1,85-1,78 millones de años) y el suroeste de Europa (hace unos 1,2-1,1 millones de años)”, señalan los autores. Para este último dato se toma como referencia un artículo de 2008, publicado también en Nature, sobre la datación de hasta 1,2 millones de años de una mandíbula hallada en la Sima del Elefante de Atapuerca (Burgos), pero en ese mismo escenario se encontraron después, en 2022, huesos de la cara que podrían ser todavía más antiguos (entre 1,2 y 1,4 millones de años). Roman Garba explica a SINC: “La prueba más antigua de la presencia de homininos en Europa se encontró en Atapuerca, un yacimiento impresionante con una colección única de fósiles humanos, que siguen siendo los más antiguos de Europa. En Korolevo no tenemos huesos, pero sí una gran cantidad de herramientas de piedra que indican la presencia humana (de la especie Homo erectus) más antigua conocida en Europa”. Datación con nucleidos cosmogénicos En cualquier caso, los artefactos líticos del yacimiento ucraniano tienen aproximadamente 1,42 millones de años, según la técnica de física nuclear aplicada que han utilizado los autores para conocer su edad: “Utilizamos métodos de datación de enterramiento mediante nucleidos cosmogénicos que pueden datar rocas con hasta cinco millones de años de antigüedad”, apunta Garba. “En el yacimiento de Korolevo –añade–, medimos específicamente las concentraciones de los nucleidos berilio-10 y aluminio-26, con unas vidas medias diferentes (1,39 millones de años y 708 mil años, respectivamente). Se forman en el cuarzo cuando está en la superficie debido a la radiación cosmogénica procedente del espacio, pero empiezan a decaer cuando quedan enterrados en el suelo. La relación entre ambos varía en función del tiempo que los clastos (sedimentos) hayan estado enterrados bajo la superficie. Por tanto, podemos utilizarla para calcular su edad desde que fueron enterrados”. Viajes en periodos interglaciares Los autores también estudiaron la idoneidad del hábitat en los últimos dos millones de años y sugieren que los primeros homininos probablemente aprovecharon los periodos interglaciares más cálidos para colonizar lugares de mayor latitud y relativamente más continentales, como Korolevo. Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer reveals next move after Supreme Court judgment

Aloy Ejimakor, the Special Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has revealed the next line of action following the Supreme Court ruling. Ejimakor said Kanu’s legal team will move for a bail application for the IPOB leader at the Federal High Court in Abuja. He spoke to DAILY POST shortly after the Supreme Court refused to order Kanu’s release. In its judgment delivered by Justice Emmanuel Agim but written by Justice Garba Lawal, the Supreme Court overturned the Appeal Court ruling that discharged and acquitted Kanu of all terrorism charges in October 2022. The Supreme Court held that although the Nigerian government recklessly and unlawfully rendered Kanu from Kenya, such an unlawful act has not divested any court from proceeding with trial. Justice Lawal held that no Nigerian law was cited in the suit seeking Kanu’s release on mere unlawful abduction from Kenya. The judge said at the moment, the remedy for such action is for Kanu to file a civil matter against such an act instead of removing the powers of courts to continue with his trial for alleged criminal charges. The apex court subsequently ordered Kanu to defend himself in the remaining 7 counts of terrorism charges against him at the Federal High Court. Reacting to the proceedings, Ejimakor said he was expecting the apex court to affirm the ruling of the Appeal Court. According to Ejimakor: “I had high hopes that, based on the law of extradition, the Supreme Court should have affirmed the discharge order made by the Court of Appeal. “Yes! First, we shall proceed with apace bail application to reinstate his bail in line with the ruling of the Supreme Court.” Ejimakor also expressed dissatisfaction with the ruling of the Supreme Court on Kanu’s extraordinary rendition from Kenya. He said: “I am not satisfied with the Supreme Court’s discountenance of the extraordinary rendition, because it does not comport with the doctrine of fair hearing. “The Supreme Court justified its position on the theory that our jurisprudence has not developed to the point of recognizing extraordinary rendition as a barrier to prosecution. Riconosciuta anche un'arte transnazionale come la lavorazione a mano del vetro. La candidatura era stata presentata da Repubblica Ceca, Finlandia, Francia, Germania, Ungheria e Spagna. Altre arti legate a mestieri entrate nell'ambita lista sono la tessitura a motivi Naga tipica del Laos, la tessitura del perizoma della Costa d'Avorio, la costruzione di barche di legno della Martinica.
