Any chance of getting a romanceable route for Gavin? He got my attention right as he's introduced as a character and I was hoping he would be one of the options, and then it never came. So much potential! Every interaction he has with us is shippable and I was living vicariously by the crumbs of interaction. Pleeease? Maybe? Hopefully. :)
I have some good news and some bad news for you, darling:
the bad news is that the Speaker will not be able to romance Gavin Cowles
the good news is that you will be able to! there's a separate side story set in the Speaker-verse called Idle Hands that will take place between books 1 and 2 of the main Speaker series, and Gavin is one of the main characters/romance options in that game
bad news again: it's not written yet and won't be until after Speaker book 1 is complete (though a very early draft of the prologue is available on my Patreon. full disclosure, Gav isn't in that part, but it'll give you a feel for the player character and introduce you to Casey)
you can find more information about Idle Hands here, including information about the romance options 💙

If any of the krisnix fans following me are already DCU fans, I would be very, very curious to pick some of your brains and mine your existing comics knowledge (as my own is very new and somewhat lacking) about a krisnix-centric, Batman-inspired AU.

Review: Birds of Prey #13[Editor's Note: This review may contain spoilers] Writer: Kelly ThompsonArt: Gavin GuidryColors: Jordie BellaireLetters: Clayton Cowles Reviewed by: Matthew B. Lloyd Summary Dinah, Babs and Co. have their "final" confrontation" with Maia, and Cela has to make a decision about her future. Positives Birds of Prey #13 has some decent action.  It's not overwhelmingly good, but some of the issues in this arc have had the group waiting around for something to happen.  They had no agency last issue in finding Barbara, so it's nice to see them actually combat Maia.  That's about everything that stands out about this issue from a positive perspective. Negatives The biggest problem with Kelly Thompson's version of Birds of Prey is that she really doesn't seem that interested in Babs, Dinah and the other women she's put in the book.  There's a whole more passion and excitement for Maia and Cela's story.  And, it really IS their story.  It should be their comic in a creator owned series published by Image or someone. Thompson has tried to make it about Maia trying to kill them- (but, why didn't she kill Barbara when she had her captive?  The group already took the bait and followed her into the pocket dimension.  Maia didn't need her alive) -Thompson puts far more effort into the relationship between Maia and Cela and what Maia did or didn't do.  You've got  Barbara, Dinah, Barda, Cassandra Cain, Vixen and Sin.  Couldn't Thompson have found a way for the emotional beats to be about one of these characters or the relationship between two of them?  Remember when Chuck Dixon and Gail Simone wrote Birds of Prey and the relationship between Babs, Dinah and Helena mattered?  There was tension and they grew together and worked through their differences to make them a stronger unit working together?  They might've encountered others, but the three of them were the emotional focus.  Maybe Thompson doesn't remember that.  Maybe Thompson never read those comics.  It's hard to read this series and believe she did.  This makes Birds of Prey #13 and the whole series in fact feel very superficial.  Once you start to think about it...the flaws stand out.  Why would Barbara or Dinah consider murder an option.  Thompson brings it up again (it was in last issue as well- Babs' idea!), Barbara and Dinah aren't killers.  That's not what this concept is about.  They've had to pull Helena (Huntress) Bertinelli back from the edge in stories in the past.  I don't think Thompson really gets these characters.  The whole series has been her telling us she doesn't understand the concept of the Birds of Prey, but this bit about murdering Maia in particular demonstrates that Thompson doesn't get these characters.  It's quite disturbing actually. Along these same lines, what's the purpose of Constantine and Xanthe Zhou appearing in this issue and the last?  They do absolutely nothing.  They don't help rescue those in the pocket dimension.  Their sole contribution besides standing around is for quipping and jokes that don't land, and the "surprise" at the end of last issue when Zhou claimed those inside the pocket dimension were "already dead."  If anything, it seems like Zhou is just here so Thompson can have a non-binary, Asian character in the book.  The pages with these characters are a waste of space.  Certainly these pages could've been used to develop an aspect of the main characters in this book, right?  Maybe Thompson really like's Zhou and wanted to use the characters, but just wasn't clever enough to make her fit in the story logically. Verdict Birds of Prey #13 is yet another disappointment.  Thompson has had plenty of opportunities (13, so far) to make this series into something, and she just can't land this as a Birds of Prey series.  She's got elements of Doom Patrol (wild wacky extra dimensional shenanigans), and an independent creator owned series with the focus on Maia and Cela.  Writing a Doom Patrol series would be fine.  A book about Cela and Maia would probably be really good, it's clear that's where her passion lies.  This is just another superficial series with style over substance and none of the characters people are here for (Barbara, Dinah) show any real depth.  Somehow, the resolution is better than the previous issue.

from The Weight of Memory ch1 [read on ao3]:
A noisy groan came from behind Saren, and he turned to see Des stamping off his feet before he entered. “Don’t tell me you called your mother. She probably told you to put arsenic in my portion, right?” “My gran, you big coward.” Valis smacked at Des’s spurs with her cane, but not particularly hard. To say her parents and siblings disapproved of her choice in husbands was putting it lightly; Saren had been present for exactly one chance encounter with a younger Abrudas sibling stationed on the same base once, and even he’d found himself ducking for cover. Joking around about it was about the only thing the two of them could do, at this point. “But it sounded like she’s still staying with my folks, so you never know. Promise there’s no arsenic.” “Gotcha. Saren, make sure you run a scan for cyanide.” Des shrugged the three overnight duffels they'd packed off his shoulder and dropped them by the bench, then stepped forward, arms already outstretched for the hug Valis pulled him into. He slotted against her smoothly, comfortably, with the practiced ease of a man who would be perfectly content to stay there forever. As her arm wrapped around beneath his cowl, a low thrum rose up from his chest, his eyes slid shut, and the last shreds of tension and anxiety melted out of his frame. "Hi, Val," he murmured, so soft Saren almost couldn't hear him. "Missed you." Her answering purr shook Saren's bones. She held Desolas like he was something precious: her face leaned against his overgrown crest, her powerful arms curled around him with the utmost gentility, her uneven subvocals sang her love and gratitude that the universe had returned him safely to her side. "You, too, hotshot. Not the same when you're not here."
😭 share a snippet that will break our hearts
from Broken Mirror ch50 [read on ao3]:
Tali nodded and flipped another switch. While Williams pulled the pads free and Nihlus braced himself for more weight, a soft burr drew his attention back to Saren. His hands still fidgeted endlessly, but he’d lifted his head, and his pupils had thinned back to razor-thin cuts in the iris. Ashley yanked the last pad supporting David’s arm free while Nihlus waited for Saren to do something else, which he did after Nihlus had gotten a solid thwack to the chest. “David,” he said, and his voice had lost all its usual gruffness, quiet and thoughtful and imploring. “Do you know who I am?” Another whimper, and David’s eyes started moving under his eyelids again. “Saren Arterius. Tur- Turian. Special, Special Tactics and Reconnaissance. Brother of-” “Son of Desinian and Veniria Arterius,” Saren interrupted, and Nihlus’s breath caught in his throat. “I’m not here to hurt you, David.” David was quiet for a moment, then managed a quiet, “Just wanted to help.” “I know, David.” Saren’s subvocals were gentle, maybe even… mournful. “Where are your parents, David? Do you have anybody besides your brother?” David’s muscles twitched against Nihlus’s back, like his body was trying to remember how to be alive. “Dad got sick. Mum was sad. Gavin said we had to go.” Nihlus shared a look with Williams, whose brow furrowed. “Thought the doc said his parents couldn’t handle him,” she muttered. She’d tried to lower his left arm gently as she listened, and now moved to busy herself with gingerly removing the tubes from his throat. He rumbled deep in his chest. “I’m getting the sense somebody here has a bit of a complex.” Saren twitched a mandible in their direction, but otherwise ignored them. “What are their names, David?” “Ian and Pearl Archer.” Nihlus closed his eyes. Names have power, whispered a hundred different people from a hundred different times. It was a common turian superstition, existing in some flavor in almost every culture across the Empire and carried outside of it like it was written into their very DNA: don’t say the name of anything you aren’t ready to show up next to you. Do you see? he silently implored any spirits that might have answered the call that had just been thrown out into the universe. Do you see what’s become of your sons?

Are we going to talk about how marvelously queer-coded mini Michael was in that episode?
So good on Gavin Lewis for that and perfectly mimicking Vlamis’s nuances! .... Same with Jessica Treska and Zack Michael with that of Lily’s and Nathan’s. Those kids studied their elders!

Okay, random question. so we know Rory drives a motorcycle, and Kana drives a convertible, But what do the other RO's drive or would drive if they had a car?(since you mentioned the possibility of Az not driving in the car scene) Hope you have a good day/night/afternoon aswell!!
with added specifics because researching cars was actually a lot of fun 😆:
Rory drives a blue '85 Harley-Davidson FXEF Super Glide that they rebuilt themself. they call her Beatrix
Kana drives a white 2018 BMW series 4 convertible
I haven't settled on an exact car for Sebastian yet. Something intentionally "boring" that doesn't stand out in a crowd, that has enough headroom for someone his size, and is at least 10 years old
Li can drive, but doesn't own a car. Borrows Gavin's car, if they need to go somewhere.
Azalea can't drive and doesn't own a car. If she did, she'd probably own a hybrid or electric.
Gavin owns a powder blue late-60's Chevelle, which has been mentioned in passing once or twice already. He doesn't drive very often, though, so it's kind of become the family vehicle.
Audrey drives a red Volkswagen Beetle. the new model, not the old 60's one.
Nellie drives a hatchback, either black or dark green. I haven't decided if it's a Mazda 3 or Ford Focus, but it's one of the two. has a few aftermarket upgrades
Luke, Mama, Henry, Ana, and Casey all borrow Gav's car instead of owning one of their own.
Mal can drive, but hates doing it, and doesn't own a car.
Anya is 7. Owns a Hot Wheels version of her dad's car

Review: Birds of Prey #9[Editor's Note: This review may contain spoilers] Writer: Kelly ThompsonArt: Jonathan Case and Gavin GuidryColors: Jordie BellaireLetters: Clayton Cowles Reviewed by: Matthew B. Lloyd Summary  Part 1 "Worlds Without End" begins in Birds of Prey #9- just where did Dinah, Barda, Sin, Cass and Mari go when they followed Barbara into that portal? Positives The fourth art team debuts on this series and Jonathan Case and Gavin Guidry have another style to strut on the pages of Birds of Prey #9.  It's adjacent to Leonardo Romero's, but remains distinct.  Jordie Bellaire's colors go along way in maintaining a consistency.  The atmosphere in this story is communicated quite well through the art as we explore this strange world. Negatives The latest issue of Doom Patrol puts the team in a routinely bizarre situation...oh, er... uh...this isn't Doom Patrol?  Tone has been an issue with this series since issue #1.  In that issue, Harley was rightly feared to distract from the tone of the series, and Kelly Thompson has managed to do that to an even greater degree with Birds of Prey #9 without Harley even being mentioned in the issue.  Thompson has Dinah mention Danny the Street and that makes it clear that this series has veered into Doom Patrol territory.  That's exactly how this issue feels.  There's almost nothing in this issue that feels like a Birds of Prey comic.  Despite Dinah and Barbara being a part of the story...it's gone off in such a strange direction that it reads like a Doom Patrol comic.  As a Doom Patrol comic it has some potential. That tone is reinforced by some of the awkward humor in the opening sequence.  This was apparent in parts of Birds of Prey #8 as well.  It doesn't land the way Thompson thinks it does and just comes off as a juvenile.  Thompson also brings back the picking between Mari and Dinah over Dinah's costume choices.    Would they really pick like that when thrust into an unknown, confusing and dangerous situation?  Thompson also is having trouble with Dinah's voice, she's more and more detached as "too cool to care," despite what we get of substance with the character indicates the opposite.  There's no secret to be revealed that Dinah genuinely cares for Barbara.  The decision to include it is misplaced, unnecessary and superficial.  It's just an odd thing to bring up. Negatives Cont'd There's a strange moment when Meridian comes to- she was knocked out and left behind.  She goes to Star City and goes to the home of ... Oliver Queen?  There's an additional attempt at awkward humor before Zealot steps out from another room.  It's not clear, but this must be Grifter, right?  He and Zealot were together in issue #1, but a blond man with facial hair in Star City is going to be taken as Ollie.   There are unanswered questions as Dinah, Sin, Barda, Cass and Mari find a way out of this world and it seems rushed.  It comes off as a contrived moment to make the reader think, "oh wasn't that fun!"  However, it really just makes the story feel like it's going nowhere.  Almost nothing of real significance happens.  Everything is to cutesy.  Is this Thompson's style or just a poorly conceived approach to this series?   Verdict Birds of Prey #9 strays further from the what makes the Birds of Prey the Birds of Prey.  Ill suited humor and a tone and milieu that resembles the Doom Patrol are the biggest culprits.  Coupled with the fact that the story barely moves forward, the issue is relies on the out of place elements to carry it.  There's little substance to what transpires and it seems to set up a meandering arc that will end in a "surprise."  There are some elements that have potential, but not in within the pages of Birds of Prey.
