God I am OBSESSED with this panel. The sheer amount of yearning in Jason's eyes, looking almost shy. Sneakily stealing a glance at Dick. Dick smiling a little, staring up at the ceiling, completely unaware of Jason's stare.
This feels, like, CLASSICALLY gay. This feels like a scene you'd see in a movie or show where two characters are clearly pining for each other but haven't yet confessed (but it's clearly heading that way).
Like, there is ZERO way to interpret this as platonic or as "just hero worship". Especially in the context of the entire annual. It feels like a 150k slowburn fanfic the way this annual is written. This entire thing threw me off so badly when I just joined the fandom bc this doesn't at all feel platonic.
I could talk about this annual for HOURS man

okay okay what's your least favourite 'classic' novel you ever read. i'm curious xx
#rabbit run; i am in your walls#altho tbf that's more of a 'modern classic'#i have literally never hated a fictional characters as much as i hated rabbit angstrom#also hated ethan frome#tho not sure i'd call that a classic esp compared to edith wharton's other works;#think we just read it b/c it was shorter than age of innocence#was not wild about wuthering heights either#english major first world problems#literature#my hot take is that the scarlet letter is good actually#hawthorne's other work is better (and usually shorter) but i do feel tsl gets a bad rap#i had to read it twice in college and once in hs and i didn't mind either time#i think a lot of people's issues w/ it is due to a post-hemingway shift to 'minimalist writing style' in modern fiction#as opposed to the style of the past (esp 19th century) which was characterized by much more flowery long and descriptive sentences#which is also why dickens is also esp hard for those new to that style

i feel like an often overlooked downside to 10-episode seasons and the death of the "monster of the week" format is that we get way less whump variety nowadays. used to be that there'd be dozens of opportunities for your fave to get punched or kidnapped or hypnotized or what have you. these days if it doesn't fit into the main plot, it just doesn't happen. this is a tragedy. we should be protesting.
#they just don't whump blorbos or put them in silly little shenanigans like they used to#actual vampires are canon to diagnosis murder b/c a single episode had one as the killer#and they never mentioned it again#which retroactively also made vampires canon to matlock and mission impossible as well#since there were crossover eps w/ Diagnosis Murder#like they just did things like that in the good old days#imo there needs to be a baseball (or other team sport) and community theater and beach episode in every show#even if seems contrary to the tone and makes almost no sense in context#especially then#father brown still loves me tho#even w/ its 10-15 episode seasons#(tho tbf that's a lot for a british show)#and gives me fun little cases of the week#like susie joins a cult and that one episode w/ a gang of vigilante clowns

ngl, I'm not sure whether it's Jason or Dick in the panel or where it's from, but it looked fun to redraw.
Edit: The panel is from Batman Vol. 1 #13 (1942). (Thanks, anon! and everyone in the comments:)
And I got some asks about this; sorry for offending anyone. I really meant no harm. I didn't consider the context. I'll try to do more research next time, and to clear some other things up, it's Dick in the original panel, and it's supposed to be Dick in the redraw too
