Actually this came from torithedormouse on instagram, prompting me to sketch Dalinar stuck in chairs too small for his big frame, after a bit in chapter 44 of Oathbringer, which describes him sitting on a small stool and looking entirely too big for it.

Him: *walks over to me while I'm changing a kid's diaper* Me: "Hey, can you take a step back and give him some privacy?" Syl, plaintively: "I wanna see the tushie!"

Elhokar:

Her: *sees one of the other kids crying, starts crying in a very obviously fake way* Me: "Aww, are you sad because no one's paying attention to you?" Her: *sniffles* "Yeah."

Lift: took a running jump onto the table, slid across on her stomach, and started hoovering up another kid's Cheerios with her mouth

The Mink: the new playground fence was specifically built to be her-proof; she escaped four times before it had been up for two days

Gavilar: Asked another kid "[name], can I hit you please?" in the sweetest most polite voice and then hit them before they could answer

Renarin: *extremely matter of fact and adult voice* "I'm going to bring my blankie to shul so I don't get scared by the loud noises."

Wyndle: Pointed at a wooden rocking chair, gasped, and said "whoa, that chair is beautiful!"

Gavinor: His mom came in to pick him up and he ran away, climbed on the table, and yelled "NO MOMMY! GRANDMA GRANDPA UP!"

Cryptics: Dragged some chairs over to the rug, sat down, and went "MMMMMMMM" for several minutes for no discernible reason

I'm serious when I say this fic is like napping in a sunbeam. Elhokar slowly finding his place in the world is so healing.

The divorce had been finalized and she'd gotten half his assets. But Elhokar had been very well off so he'd been able to buy a cute little three bedroom house in a suburb that didn't have perfectly manicured lawns. He'd traded in his sports car for a fuel efficient Honda civic. His mother had made him excel spreadsheets to budget both his living expenses and his business. That didn't mean he wasn't struggling. He just wasn't struggling financially. Elhokar had never done chores and now he was responsible for everything. As soon as Elhokar got home he rinsed and dried off Mr. Dux before putting the toy in Gavinor’s little overnight bag first. He'd forgotten that once. It hadn't gone well for anyone involved. Then he proceeded to pack his son's things for a weekend with his mother. He packed clothes, toiletries, a few books and toys, and a little thing of Gav’s art supplies. He immediately set the bag next to the door. He knew he'd forget otherwise. Then he got to work.

I just think it’d be really funny if Moash gets that redemption arc, but just as he reaches a pivotal moment, he gets stabbed to death by a now-teenage Gavinor.

Adolin is the sole Kholin who does not know how to read or has a Nahel bond.

Kaladin is not only the Most Character Ever, but also, in-universe, the one with most ties with House Kholin. He's Dalinar's third son, Navani's poor little meow meow, Adolin & Shallan's boyfriend, Renarin's boss, Elhokar's personal guard, Aesudan & Gavinor's distant relative and Jasnah's #1 hater. Oh, and he's on a field trip with Gavilar's killer.

It's probably a good idea I can't attend dragonsteel because if I ever got to ask live questions I would bore the investiture physistists to death with stuff like:

How old was Gavilar at the point of his death?

Does kaladin have a rural sadeas accent? and did gavilar and dalinar have train away an accent from whatever rural kholin city they came from?

Assuming nobody dies in kowt, would navani and dalinar let gavinor learn how to read or draw?

What’s the actual difference between the suffixes in and lin?

Following that, does lin davars name just mean born unto?

So I just finished the Stormlight Archive, and I love it! It’s awesome, great world building, interesting magic system, lovable interesting character. However, something I’ve noticed sometimes, emotional beats are skipped over and only mentioned to have been dealt with retroactively. Some examples:

Spoilers through Rhythm of War

In RoW:

We don’t see Shallan’s reunion with Testament. We only see after.

In the same chapter we find out that at some point Adolin and Shallan find out that Uratheru was invaded, occupied, and then freed.

At the trial we find out that Adolin knew about Kaladin’s near betrayal. I assume that means all the Kholin’s know, but when and how? Did Elhokar know that there was a time his hero really believed the world would be better off without him?

This one I get bc of the time jump btw Oathbringer and Rhythm of War, but Adolin and Renarin finding out that Dalinor killed their mother Evi.

Maybe it’s just me but I think Kal deserved some more awe and excitement from his friends at achieving the fourth ideal?

Again this happened in the time jump but a more full reunion btw Kaladin and his family. Bc we get one in Oathbringer, but like that’s kinda a “hi, Im alive, I’m a radiant, there’s a new desolation, gotta go”, verses where they are at the beginning of RoW. There’s definitely be a good bit of contact since then.

In Oathbringer:

Had Gavinor returned in time for the wedding, why do we only see Kal’s relief that he’s alive? I would have liked to see the Kholin’s’.

Speaking of Kholin reunion’s we only hear about. Jasna and Navani!!!

We completely skip over Kal being locked up again first with friends and then on his own, away from Syl who’s also locked up.

Oh, and I feel like we deserve a conversation between Shallan and Kaladin about Helarand.

This is not a full missing beat, but it would have been nice to see Adolin and Shallan’s wedding. We see the abbreviated heretical ceremony for Dalinor and Navani l, and I think it would have been an interesting contrast to see the tradition ceremony Adolin and Shallan probably had. (On a side note I love that Kal gave Shallan boots, that’s hilarious, but now I do want to know what he gave Adolin)

In Words of Radiance

I feel like it would have been good to see Elhokar mourn his sister.

Adolin’s POV after Shallan and Kal fall into the chasm.

Kal getting through his first proximity to Amoram unless he just avoided him…but I don’t know! We don’t see it, we aren’t even told what he did when he saw Dalinar talking to Amoram. We only know that Amoram doesn’t recognize Kal until after the duel.

Anyway I can’t remember any specific ones in TWoK, but im sure there are some.

Kaladin maybe becoming Dalinar’s heir, seeing Oroden and Gavinor, the mention of Shallan being part of the Kholin family and thus in line for succession, the shower sex that might lead to a baby…

We might be setting up the royal family players for the second half of the series.
