It’s been 2 years since both Master Childe and Mr. Zhongli have been dancing around each other. 2 YEARS!!!!

And just now… You literally won’t believe the level of PDA I had to witness. Mr. Zhongli lent his coat to Master Childe  because his official uniform is too “risque” and “insufficient” for Liyue’s winter.

It’s not even 9 am yet… I need coffee for this shit.

Ekaterina stares at her phone in horror as the notifications from her socials go blasting off every- freaking- second. Not to mention, the weird, suspicious and vague “mission” about digging more information on her boss and his “friend” 

Ugh. Why is she the one who has to suffer?

chapter 2

First thing Ekaterina does is to mute her socials. The constant pinging of the notifications started to annoy her and it might overheat her phone too. 

“-terina” 

She shouldn’t have posted about her boss. Worst decision she ever made in her entire life- well… not exactly the worst but definitely ranks up high somewhere in the regrets list. 

“Ekaterina?”

But to be fair, it was getting on her nerves recently, since Mr. Zhongli got very bold with his affection towards Master Childe recently, and well… her boss being the oblivious and dense person he is, hasn’t even noticed the advances, and instead he just shoots his “friend” an extremely blushy smil-

Woah —

Something- no - a pair of hands grab Ekaterina’s shoulders and shake the living soul out of her body. “Oww.”

“Katya! Come on! I’ve been calling your name so many times now. Where is your mind at?” Nadia, one of her colleagues and friend, stares at her with concern.

“Sorry,” Ekaterina replies, pushing her hair back. “Was thinking…”

“Is it the new mission?”

“Yeah.” 

She shoots Ekaterina a pitiful look before handing her a cup of coffee. “Better start the hustle then. Call me or the others if you need help. And boy, we have a lot of work cut out for us.” Nadia ushers her away to her office, “Go, go, time is mora. Don’t waste it.”

With that, the door to her office closes. Ekaterina places her coffee on the table and pulls out her chair, before remembering to check her phone.

Back to regretting my life choices, I guess. 

It took about a week to stalk gather intel on Master Childe and Mr. Zhongli’s time together. Stacks of brown envelopes and manila folders, labelled as “CONFIDENTIAL : FATUI ONLY” covered the entire top of Ekaterina’s dining table (scouring over reports about a harbinger’s rendezvous with a funeral consultant during working hours would have been too much on the nose)

The mission became a joint effort between her and other agents working at the Northland Bank. It was found out on their first day, that it wasn’t an easy task observing their extremely lovey dovey targets… The PDA displayed by them was too much (it was lethal to the agents’ health to watch them longer than an hour).

As the mission is classified to be confidential, and specially ordered by her majesty, Ekaterina and the agents couldn’t take any risks to get information leaked about whatever the heck they were doing. So, everyone opted for hard copy reports which could be destroyed once it fulfilled its use.

But no one expected it to be a massive headache as Ekaterina and her colleagues went through each one of them.

“When will this end?! There’s too many,” Felix breaks the silence with a groan, then slams his head down on the table.

“I feel like I’ve already read the same report a million times now, just worded differently.” Vlad rubs his eyes with a heavy sigh. “Every single day, they eat lunch together at Chef Mao’s, go to Yun Jin’s plays, or sometimes to Third-Round Knockout and finally crash at either one’s home for dinner, did I get that right?”

“You’re correct, except for one thing. Everything and everything is paid by Lord Tartaglia,” Felix responded, seemingly recovered from his exhaustion. 

Everyone hums in union. 

To be fair though, the mora used by Master Childe on his outings weren’t really his, but Lord Pantalone’s. Hell, even Ekaterina would exploit 9th Harbringer’s mora (if she had a higher standing in the fatui, of course)

“Lets not forget these.” With the most deadpan expression, Vlad tosses pictures of the “dates” their boss and his “friend” had, but many many cropped pictures of Master Childe’s chest framed perfectly by his leather harness, stood out from the stack.

“Who took these?” and “Why?” was left unsaid amongst them all. 

Nadia choked suspiciously on air just then. Nervously shifting her eyes around. 

Thinking to save her friend from embarrassment, Ekaterina tries to change the subject. “Ahem, anyway, since all the reports are basically the same, let’s just summarise it.” 

“Umm something along the lines of … Master Childe is a sugar daddy for Mr. Zhongli and they act like a married couple?” Felix says while rubbing his chin in deep thought. 

“Let's… At least try to rephrase our wording, not so straightforward.” Vlad smiles, or at least tries to.

Meanwhile, in the privacy of Zhongli’s home, an elegantly written note addressed not to Zhongli, but Morax, materialises right in front of him.

 “You shameless old dragon, get your broke ass to Snezhnaya now! We need to talk” 

Never in his life did Childe feel as nervous and scared until today. He was shaking in his boots as he looked back and forth between her majesty and Mr. Zhongli (alternatively Rex Lapis, as he just found out… but that can be discussed later). He didn’t think that he’d get summoned by The Tsaritsa nor did he expect Mr. Zhongli, who was supposed to be in Liyue doing his job, to be invited to her majesty’s garden for tea.

Tea? Nope this isn’t tea, this is basically an interrogation session! 

“Now, let me get this straight. You gave the boy a pair of marriage chopsticks and he accepted it?” Tsaritsa raised her teacup to her scowling lips slowly.

Hold on, wait a minute… Marriage chopsticks? 

“That is correct–”

“And you thought that my youngest, born and raised in Snezhnaya would understand the meaning behind this act? You didn’t think this through did you, Morax? How embarrassing, I suppose Barbatos is still right, you ARE a stone blockhead.”

Mr. Zhongli coughed discreetly to disguise his embarrassment, before taking a sip from his cup, “Now please, Tsaritsa, there’s no need to chastise me for it.” 

“I must, with how you shamelessly court my youngest Harbinger without my knowledge.” Tsaritsa’s eyes narrow down at Zhongli, like a mother ready to scold.

Childe watches the entire exchange in shock– courting ? Mr. Zhongli and courting ? Just what in Celestia is happening ? He must have looked like a dumbfounded monkey, staring at them, until her majesty’s words interrupt his inner turmoil.

“Well,” she says curtly “Has the wedding date been set? If not, I shall take care of it.”

Sputtering and hacking on his tea, Childe replied, “W-What!??”

Vlad and Nadia are so cute during the lantern rite, have some angst :)

Vlad and Nadia had both gotten time off at the same time and, by communicating through their letter’s, set up a time and place for their first official date. Vald was leaning against the railing, looking up at the few lanterns already floating into the sky when Nadia ran up, smiling beneath her mask. 

“Vlad! Vlad! Look! I got you something!” She said as he perked up, catching her as she jumped into his arms. He looked at her peculiarly, the young woman grinning and leaning up to place a gentle kiss to his lips. “There it is~ Do you like your gift?” She asked, Vlad’s face going red as he starts to fumble over his words. 

Before he could get anything out, the heart the whistle of the first fireworks shooting up into the air. Nadia grabbed his hand, pointing up at the sky and jumping up and down excitedly... But he could only look at her. 

“Look Look! Vlad.. Aren’t they beautiful!” Nadia said, leaning against the railing slightly. 

He smiled softly, and nodded his head before he felt a familiar pain in his body.. He clenched his jaw lightly and did his best to suck it up... But his delusion was beginning to take its toll...

"Vlad! Noddy!" you call, spotting your partners watching the bay. You haven't seen them in what seems like an age. Business as a traveling merchant means plenty of voyages that take you away from them for long periods of time. Of course, you wrote letters, and received them in return. But it's not the same.

Nadia turns first, her ash-grey hair gleaming in the light of the lanterns. She's wearing her mask, as is protocol, you realize in disappointment. She has the loveliest blue eyes you've ever seen. She's wearing a brooch you brought back on your last voyage to Fontaine.

Vlad turns second--always a bit slower on the draw, you note, in both matters of romance and combat--and grins at you. "Y/n!" he calls back. He waves at you.

You wave back and hurry over. "Welcome back, y/n," murmurs Nadia, moving forward to embrace you. Her arms encircle your shoulders with surety, and the scent of silk of flowers washes over you. It's a sweeter scent than anything at sea or in any of the foreign ports you visited. Her presence is calming, like a cool drink on a hot day.

"Oi, I saw them first!" Vlad squawks, trying to tug you away like a child.

"You did not," Nadia says peacefully, and resists his attempts with a serene smile. She rests her chin on the top of your head and drops a light kiss on your hair. "You smell like the sea, dear."

You wince. "Ship docked a few hours ago," you admit. "I wanted to see you both before I went and looked for proper lodging."

"I certainly don't mind," says Vlad with a hmph. You can see him grinning at you over Nadia's shoulder, bright and cheerful in the warm light of the lanterns. You've missed his smile. The days at sea were long and dark without him.

Nadia eventually lets you go so that Vlad can nudge in between you both and wrap you into his arms. He's much taller than Nadia and smells faintly like cedar wood. He's probably been messing around with his woodcarving hobby again. The thought makes you feel fond.

He grabs your shoulders to get a better look at you. "How've you been, sweet flower?" he asks.

"Better," you say wryly. "The Sumerian Economic Guild drives a hard bargain, and its tariffs keep threatening to put me out of business."

"This is why you should stay put and trade here in Liyue," says Vlad. It's a well-worn argument, the sort that doesn't make your hackles rise in indignation anymore. It's just exasperating, in a warm sort of way.

"Their import taxes are lower," murmurs Nadia, because even though she is lovely and sensible, you get the impression that she misses you as much as Vlad does when you're away on voyages. She was the one who came closest to convincing you to stay after the last voyage.

"But then I won't be able to bring you Sumerian date candy," you point out, and pull out a bag from your pocket. Vlad scowls at you, mock-annoyed. "Now that's just playing dirty."

"Is it?" you tease, booping his nose with the top of his finger. It's a bit difficult to do with his mask in the way, but you manage.

"Perhaps," says Nadia, and you realize the bag in your hand is now grasped between her delicate fingers.

"Thief," you gasp.

"I work at a Fatui bank," she deadpans, and the joke shocks a laugh out of you. "Fair," you say.

"Noddy, save some for me," says Vlad, pleading, and Nadia tosses him a smirk. "Perhaps," she singsongs again.

And you're laughing, because Vlad is trying to snatch the bag away from Nadia and Nadia is dodging with all the fluid grace of a woman who's put you on your ass more times than you can count, and because you're home, finally, and docked in safe harbor.

Nadia tapped her finger against her thigh, both lost in thought and alert. The moon glinted on the horizon, slowly sinking down. The last glow of night fading as the light of the sun rose from the opposite horizon. Her shift would be ending soon and Vlad would take over. She sighed. She only really ever got to see Vlad when they switched places. Maybe she could ask her boss if she and Vlad could get some time off, she wanted to spend time with him. The thud of footsteps alerted her to the fact someone was climbing the stairs. She glanced over as Vlad made his way into view. Nadia smiled at him before it fell when she noticed he was limping.

"Vlad, are you alright?" she asked

"Just fine," he said, "Just a sprain,"

"Are you sure?" she asked as Vlad took her spot in front of the bank

"Yep," said Vlad, "Not like I'm moving around much. I'll be fine,"

Nadia gazed at the bruises on Vlad's cheek and the hint of a black eye from under his mask before she sighed, kissed him gently on the cheek before saying

"Try not to overdo it,"

Before she walked off, glancing back for a second to check on him before making her way back to her apartment.

Childe was shaking, but Zhongli couldn't figure out why. The younger man whimpered suddenly in his sleep, curling in on himself before, with a cry, awoke. He sat up fats, gasping for air. It took a minute for his breathing to even out as Zhongli rose up.

"Ajax, are you well?" he asked, head cocked as he study his lover with concern

"Fine Xiansheng," said Childe softly

Zhongli gazed at Childe for a moment, studying his face. Tears stained his face and his eyes were red and puffy. Zhongli rose his hand to wipe the tears and Childe leaned into his hand, eyes fluttering shut. Zhongli smiled a sad smile, at this before pulling Childe into his arms. Childe sat ridged for a moment and Zhongli worried he had acted too quickly before Childe sunk into his arms and buried his face into Zhongli's neck. Zhongli lay back down on the bed, arms encircling his lover's body, holding him close.

✧ as you can probably guess from how this started, i’m not too big on genshin ships; i don’t mind them most of the time (except when it’s something inappropriate) but i don’t engage much with them either; nadia and vlad from northland bank are low-key the otp here >///<

i do like the bennefischl ship name though, nice play on words (*￣▽￣)b

i’d love to see certain characters interact with each other in platonic ways though, like the potential for chaos, if childe and kaeya met for example, would be high (just both of them being fake-polite with veiled insults and threats during a business meeting or during battle would be entertaining enough)

14. favourite memories of genshin?

✧ my favourite memories, this is a hard one… probably whenever i achieve something like finally levelling xiao to 90 or maxing out the serenitea pot; also, discovering cool places around the map, like that really high platform in jueyun kast or solving a puzzle/ mystery that i couldn’t before; obviously also playing the story and getting the characters i wished for (not a lot of that happening lately ㅠㅠ)

maybe finally understanding the game and therefore progressing a lot faster than before, like once i finally did some pulls and got some new characters and built them, that’s when the game started becoming really fun, does that count?

i don’t have any specific memories that come to mind though and i can’t say anything about playing with others because i mostly play alone ଘ(*. .)

i guess watching my friend play genshin for the first time and obliterating every enemy in his world was really funny but i’m on weird terms with him right now which taints this memory a bit

17. your current party composition?

✧ i’m really exposing my weird play style today, huh? when i’m doing stuff like dailies, i just throw together whatever characters i feel like using, which is mostly xiao, childe, raiden+ random character (used to be xiangling, bennett or sayu but for quests i can get away with using whoever really; i’ve been using mona, ningguang and beidou more recently)

i do like having childe and xiangling on the same team though because they synergise well and i’m interested in trying childe, kazuha, bennett, xiangling when i finally have kazuha ଘ(੭˃ᴗ˂)੭

xiao and raiden just do crazy damage regardless, so i never really built a team especially for them which shows with raiden because i could really use an electro battery to get her burst faster and reinvest some of her energy recharge into a different stat (i’ll have to look into some team comps that feel right for me again, i have some ideas already but I’ll have to test how good they work for me and my play style)
