GenZen Week Oneshot!

Day 6 -Protection/Kisses

Saying that Zenitsu was a bit of a scaredy-cat was like saying that sometimes trees had leaves or the sky was blue. Anyone who’d met the blonde quickly became aware of both how easily spooked he was and how loud he got when he was. And any that wound up paired with him on a mission soon realized that they’d be pulling double duty on both slaying the oni and protecting the frightened thunder breath user.

This was a job that Genya Shinazugawa both easily adapted to and readily agreed to once he and the blonde became close; first as friends and later as lovers. The raven enjoyed fighting and killing oni, testing his skills as a marksman and to a lesser extent a swordsman. And as a bonus he got to keep an eye on and take care of his friend-turned-boyfriend instead of worrying how he’s doing alone or paired with some other slayer.

But just like during the winter some trees became bare and during the brief windows of dawn and dusk the sky was painted in reds and golds there were a few times where Zenitsu wasn’t the one being protected in a battle. Under a few very specific circumstances the blonde could be bold and protective, vicious even.

The first was when he fell unconscious. If the thunder breath user was asleep or knocked out and came under threat of danger (or was in it before passing out) then he would react to the cause of said danger instinctively and efficiently. This was the most common way one saw the blonde’s ability as a slayer.

The second and most vicious response was when those he held most dear were threatened. Like right now for instance, when an oni had tried its very best to rip Genya to pieces and more or less succeeded. The only reason the raven was still alive was his habit of eating the flesh of oni in battle to gain their abilities.

While Genya focused on using the oni regeneration he had in his current form to heal as quickly as possible and avoid dying from his current state Zenitsu’s attitude had taken a complete 180 from the rest of their battle thus far, charging the oni with the speed and force of a bolt of lightning. If he weren’t in agony from his wounds and focused on healing them, which was also painful (lucky him), then the raven haired teen would be thoroughly enjoying the show his boyfriend is making of the oni that nearly killed him’s demise.

By the time Genya had fully healed, ravenous and sore, Zenitsu had beheaded the oni - who scattered to dust - and ran to his side. “Are you ok?”

“Eh… I’ll live.” the marksman growled out, oni-like state making him grouchier than usual as it always did “I’m starving right now though.”

The shorter slayer snorted before pulling his newly healed boyfriend into a kiss, chaste and little more than a peck on the lips. “Let’s get going then, get you something to eat besides bits of oni.”

“Nice as that kiss was could I get another better one?” Genya asked as he stretched and fell into step with the blonde, who turned to look up at him flatly. “You want me to stick my tongue in your mouth right now, when not even ten minutes ago you swallowed a chunk of bleeding oni flesh? Without even eating something or rinsing out you mouth first? Really?”

The taller slayer flushed “Later then?”

“Later.” Zenitsu agreed.

BELATED GENZEN WEEK DAY 2

Big oopsie on my end.

Day 2: Height Differences | Insecurities | swap

Genya had gained a reputation. The bad kind.

 How did he figure this out you ask? Simple, his scaredy cat (don't call him that, he'll cry) Senpai just happened to blurt it out right as he enters the school gate.

 "H-Hey delinquent!" He hears him shout shakily. Genya first assumed he wasn't the target of such a name, so he continues to look forward. He made his way through the arch of the gate, when he feels fingers tug on his loose school sweater, a hand me down from his older brother.

 "Me?" He asked, with his normal voice. Though by the look and sudden retreat of his hand, Zenitsu didn't think his tone was normal. Genya fully faced him, both hands in the pockets of his school pants.

 Well, this was new. The pale blonde usually never gave him any complaints, not that Genya ever made himself stand out, so he thinks. He tries to keep low profile, Sanemi's and his younger sibling's suggestion, maybe that was why?

 "Y-Yes you! Don't think you can get away w-with that!" The shorter teen gestured at him with both hands, his right holding a pen and the other holding a board with the paper flipping wildly. Genya gave him a confused look, furrowing his brows and pouting. An expression his mother would often tease him for, "Cute!" she described, pinching his cheeks.

 Zenitsu only curled on himself again, his shoulders hunching as his arms hugged the clip-board tightly. He shakes his head and points at his hair.

 "T-That hairdo won't do at all! Do you know how many times that guy reprimanded me for it!?" He screams, the other students pay no mind. The taller boy shifts from leg to leg, wondering what options he had.

 He always knew he looked scary, it did run in the family, but he never had to confront a situation like this! His face soured, unable to form a stable reply.

 "S-Stop being scary! Can't y-you see I'm trying my best here!?" Genya's face suddenly shifted into worry, his whole body stiffened.

 "Sorry, uh," He tries to recall who the blonde was for a second "Agatsuma-san?" He shook his head.

"It's not like I'm trying to be scary though..." He ended, rather awkwardly. The other opens his mouth only to shut it, sighing. He gestured to his hair again, shaking his head.

 "T-That still won't do though." He finalized, his face maintaining a anxious look. Genya just nodded, touching his mullet as if it would fix anything.

 "Ugh, damnit. So many goody two-shoes' in this goddamn school. I can't even be mad at them." Zenitsu grumbled, eyeing other students. He turned to face Genya, looking like he had a solution.

 "J-Just go, and try not to be seen." Genya moved to turn around, only to stop to think. He should say thanks right? Would that be enough though? Should...he try to smile? It would probably be creepy with his weird canines that happen to show at the furthest sides of his mouth but, eh fuck it.

 He smiled with all teeth, grunting a thank you.

 He quickly made his way to the academy, his long legs taking him there fast.

 Zenitsu turned back when he made sure Genya was off the hook. After a while he brought the clip-board near his face, covering it as he screamed as quiet as he could (like a girl, he would like to add.).
