Nonetheless I spent many years learning how to draw and paint traditionally, in classic art schools for kids. I also had a year where i stopped and specifically learned how to draw people and stylize them, and fought off fear of drawing people/faces at all. What I have is the result of basically, lerning to sketch, years of drawing life art - objects, scenery of city and forest, plants, going to the zoo and sketching the animals there.

I learned learning to draw humans is fully on you, so theres that. Look up tutorials, stare at how anathomy works and link back to your body to understand better, sketch from life and photos to get the hang of not only how humans look but also how to put down something comprehensible fast.

Watching nature livestreams can also help you get that live footage of creatures for practice

What art school did is it made me learn all of that stuff necessary for background art, perspective and lighting, and sketching, and then taught me composition (something i don't use too often but can and SHOULD) and how to use a bunch of mediums, and how to sketch someone in a way that's readable. How to draw textures with pencil and brush.

And by myself i learned how to make someone look pretty or ugly or silly, or old, and how to make them express themselves. How to line also. You know, key things for character art. And both things kind of completed each other. My character art is what i built from ground myself bc i wanted to. And everything else was given to me at school.

Anyway yeah. My art is a product of wanting to make character art for many many years and learning to do so by myself while learning how to draw elsewhere ahshsh

Oh wait! Forgot to thank @/georgetheblob for inspiring me to try a ballpoint pen for sketching, best decision of my life.

Impeccable contrast in art, doesn't smudge like pencil and lives longer! Also makes you work with mistakes and speeds you up bc you don't get stuck in a fix-it feedback loop. Paper won't let you do it too much anyway with a pencil even (it gets frayed and weak)

WIP Romance Week #1

Time for a prompt fill for @writeblrfantasy's WIP Romance Week!

Day One: Tell us about your pairing!

If I had realized I would be participating sooner I would have had a poll to decide which pairing to focus on ^^;; but oh well! Let's focus on the one that's been giving me the most Feelings lately, Nicolas and Ann!

To start with, they were not supposed to be romantic. I actually wrote their relationship in response to my frustration with the forced romances between male and female leads (particularly in Oz the Great and Powerful, between Oz and Glinda). But then they ended up having so much chemistry and were so cute together that they ended up being a major ship for me anyway. However as of Like Falling Stars's ending they are still platonic; they will start realizing their feelings in the sequel, New Constellations, though they won't be officially together yet in that book either.

Ann and Nicolas are the ultimate ADHD x Autism pairing among my characters, and together the form a fully functioning, emotionally stable adult! Ann handles more of the social aspects while Nicolas is highly organized. Together they are unstoppable.

For real though, they're very cute. Nicolas suffers from social anxiety that is connected to his inability to read social cues and high pressure to appear "perfect" to the public as a powerful faerie Prince, while Ann is much more charismatic and easily able to make friends, but worries about messing up the manners and finer details of high society. They confide their worries and doubts to each other and lift each other up, each able to see the good things about the other that they can't see in themselves.

What achievement are you most proud of?

hnnnggh oh god uh... i actually did complete a full length comic collection in high school that took a LOT of work, but for reasons of it being old art, involving characters that i don’t think tumblr would appreciate, and being extremely nsfw, i doubt i’ll ever be posting it

but it really put me out of my comfort zone in the way that i don’t draw that kinda stuff much and that i was able to compile enough together to make what would be a decent-lengthed comic? pretty fuckin cool and a reminder that i can rock when i put my mind to it

I've never drawn the ghost cousins but I thought I could give it a try ! I also like the concept of your AU @animutale, so maybe one day ?

It's also my first time using watercolor and I have no idea how to use it so I watched many watercolor tutorials, so hopefully the pic doesn't hurt anyone's eyes T-T.
