Weekend in Chicago
Day 0
Unusually, I didn't feel particularly anxious about this trip, though I still slept badly the night before departure. Although I left slightly ahead of schedule, I had a long wait for BART and then a long wait for the little mini-train to my terminal at the airport, and then the line for security was longer than I expected, so I only just had time to buy food for the flight. When I arrived at my gate, my group was already boarding. Since I’m usually at the airport 2 hours before departure, this came as a bit of a shock! But once I was on the plane, it all went smoothly. Nobody was in the middle seat next to me (I had a window), and I spent the flight reading a novel. I finished it just after we landed! [separate post coming about the book]
I landed at Chicago O’Hare around 8pm. Because it was such a short trip, I hadn’t checked a bag, which is practically unheard-of for me; I was proud of packing so light! Although it’s obvious, I still felt surprised at how quickly I could leave the airport since I didn’t have to wait for checked luggage! Because it was dark (and raining a little), I took a cab to my hotel, where Best Friend had already arrived. We went up to the room to drop off my stuff, then went out for dinner. This was a hip hotel in a hip neighborhood called River North, and we were decidedly not cool enough to stay there! However, we were also old enough not to give a shit!
By then it was 9pm (7pm for my body clock though), and we were very hungry. We had thought we would just go to a little ramen shop nearby, as surely at this hour restaurants would be emptying out, but it turned out to be packed. It was Saturday night, and I guess people in Chicago are back to going out at night. We struggled to find a restaurant that could seat us, but we eventually got a table at Hub 51. Chicago is a foodie town, and we enjoyed our meal, though the portion sizes were enormous.
After that, we returned to our hotel and went to bed soon afterwards.
Day 1
We had a leisurely start before heading out to grab breakfast en route to the Art Institute of Chicago, which was the main purpose of this weekend getaway. They had an exhibition of Remedios Varo, my favorite artist, called Science Fictions. It was fabulous. If you are in or near Chicago, I think you still have a week or two to catch this before it closes! I will be posting photos. I had only seen a few of the paintings in person before, and there were more paintings than I expected, along with a bunch of sketches. As always, seeing the paintings in person brought out details I hadn’t noticed when looking at reproductions of them, and in fact, I think there were some paintings I wasn’t familiar with at all. We spent quite a while in that exhibition before moving on to look at other works in the museum, including some great Georgia O’Keeffe paintings (I loved the landscapes) and quite a few Sargents (many from early in his career), the Chagall window, the Tiffany window, some Frank Lloyd Wright-designed things, and some furniture (some of which was great and some of which was hilariously hideous). We ate a late lunch in a sheltered courtyard café in the museum and then resumed looking at art.
After the museum, we wandered through Maggie Daley Park. It was late afternoon, and I did some birdwatching while Best Friend made a couple of phone calls. I saw a palm warbler! That was a new bird for me, and I also got a good look at a fairly distinctive bird but still couldn’t identify it. I took photos, and was later able to determine that it was an ovenbird, which is also a new one for me! There were lots of white-throated sparrows (uncommon where I live) and yellow-rumped warblers, as well as some northern cardinals (which don’t exist where I live).
We ate dinner at a deep-dish pizza place, which seemed mandatory while in Chicago. It was delicious! This restaurant makes single-person pizzas, which are cute (the fork and pen below are normal-sized and included for scale). I still couldn’t finish mine, so I brought ¼ of it back to the hotel (in a cute box!) to eat for breakfast.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We then returned to the hotel to pack and wind down.
Day 2
I had set my alarm for the ungodly hour of 6:45am, not because either of us had an early flight (we didn’t), but because we wanted to do something fun before heading to the airport. So we checked out of our hotel at 8:30, left our luggage, and took the metro (well, the el) to the 606, a repurposed elevated rail line that is now a sort of park/trail for bikes and pedestrians. Best Friend admired the architecture of the neighborhoods we were walking through, while I did some birdwatching. We then walked through Humboldt Park (more birdwatching, the highlights of which were a golden-crowned kinglet, wood ducks, lots of white-throated sparrows, and more northern cardinals, though there were also about 60 Canada geese, which was slightly terrifying!).
On our way back to the el, we stopped at Typica Café, which turned out to be Venezuelan. Best Friend had to attend a Zoom meeting for a half hour. I ate a delicious guava-cheese puff pastry, which is apparently a Venezuelan thing and which I highly recommend if you get the opportunity to have one! The hot chocolate was also exceptionally good; it was made using Venezuelan cocoa and, I think, a tiny bit of caramel syrup. It was excellent; not too sweet.
We then walked to the el and rode back to our hotel, picked up our luggage, walked to the pizza place so Best Friend could bring two frozen pizzas back for her husband and son, and then rode the el to the airport. We had gotten day passes for the Chicago el, which were a steal at $5.
At the airport we hugged goodbye as we were on different airlines. Going through security was fine, and I got to walk through the colored light underpass that is the only good thing at O'Hare. I bought snacks to eat on the plane. Boarding was a bit of a fiasco (they started boarding group 3 before group 2 for some reason) and very inefficient, but as we all reminded each other and ourselves, the only thing that really mattered was getting to our destination safely and approximately on time.
The flight itself was full and slightly delayed but fairly uneventful, and I got home via BART within 1.5 hours of landing. Yay! Although it was frankly bananas to fly halfway across the country for a 2-night stay, I feel very refreshed and energized by it and am glad I went, and particularly glad that Best Friend joined me. She's a great travel companion (despite her snoring), and I think it's the first trip we've taken together since she had her son nearly 13 (Edit: 14!) years ago.
I plan to post some photos from the trip. (I realise I didn't manage to do that after the Europe trip this summer, but this was only 2 days so it should be more manageable!)

if you’re hearing CAN YOU FEEL MY HEART? by BRING ME THE HORIZON playing, you have to know LANDON DUNN (HE/HIM; MALE) is near by! the 33 year old MECHANIC has been in denver for, like, TWO MONTHS. they’re known to be quite REACTIVE, but being ADAPTABLE seems to balance that out. or maybe it’s the fact that they resemble LOGAN LERMAN. personally, i’d love to know more about them seeing as how they’ve got those UNSAID APOLOGIES SCRIBBLED ON NAPKINS, ALWAYS FEELING OUT OF PLACE, CLENCHED FISTS AND MUGSHOTS, DRIVING FAST TOWARDS A DEAD-END vibes. and maybe i’ll get my chance if i hang out around the MONTBELLO DISTRICT long enough!
NAME: landon dunn
AGE: thirty-three
HOMETOWN: southside chicago
BIRTHDAY: november 15th
ZODIAC: scorpio
GENDER: male he/him
SEXUALITY: bisexual
RELATIONSHIP STATUS: single
OCCUPATION: mechanic
[ tw: assault, drugs, criminal activity, prison time, suicide.]
• Landon grew up in a rundown neighbourhood in southside Chicago. His parents were never married and had split before he was of an age he could even remember. He has one sister, three years his younger. Landon remained living with his mother until he was fifteen and she got a new boyfriend who Landon couldn’t stand.
• Up until this point he had been a pretty good kid, with good grades and a promising future. But when he moved in with his dad, things changed. His father was a well-known big-time drug dealer, and it wasn’t long before Landon started working for him. It started off simple, being a driver when his dad went to collect unpaid debts. But soon he started selling for him too— mostly just weed and cocaine, but occasionally something stronger. Quickly, life began to get a little more chaotic. And his grades began to slip.
• Freshly eighteen and weeks away from graduating (barley), Landon discovered bruises on his younger sister, and soon discovered that his step-dad was the culprit. Filled with rage, Landon confronted the other and the night ended with Landon being hauled into the back of a police car. The severity of his actions resulted in him being incarcerated for a 56 month period for aggravated battery. Sadly, this wouldn’t be the last time.
• With no formal high school education, he saw no other option than to continue working for his father. This continued up until the age of 25, when he was again arrested, this time for class A d**g possession ( he was holding it for his father. ). During his stint in prison he did all that he could to build on his skill, and upon leaving he found work as a mechanic though on the side took on some jobs as a getaway driver to earn as much money as he could to start over. This however only lasted a few months, before he decided he wanted away from crime altogether. It had never been his intended path in the first place.
• At the age of 32, he’d be arrested one final time, due to a bar fight that he unexpectedly got caught up in and blamed for due to his previous record. He only got released two months ago and is determined to keep himself away from trouble, but when it runs in your blood it’s not always easy. He’s moved to Denver to live with his cousin in hopes of finally having that fesh start. He can only hope it will go the way he’s planned.
HEADCANNONS
• Landon’s first sentence was 54 months, his second was 4 years of which he only ended up serving 3 for good behaviour. His third was only 6 months. Landon by no means had it easy in prison, but he also had a certain level of protection due to his father being known (though for the most part he kept to himself.) Nothing too bad happened to him, a few fights here and there the first time around but that was the extent of it. However one thing that has always stuck with him from his second stint was coming back to his cell to find that his cell-mate had managed to unalive himself. This still haunts him.
• drinks and smokes but despite previously selling them, he’s never touched a drug a day in his life. he’s never really had any desire to. he definitely has a lot of regret about selling, but will just insist it was their choice to take it.
• he also doesn’t enjoy fighting. he doesn’t actively seek it out, he’s just easily triggered by assholes. and he does get a thrill out of giving someone a taste of their own medicine.
• discovered a love for reading during his stints in prison.
• sadly he doesn’t speak to his mother anymore. he would like to, but she chose to stand by her husband. his sister seems to be doing well for herself and they’re in constant contact. he’s still as protective over her as he ever was, and despite the way his life turned out he would do the same thing if he had the opportunity to go back.
• is still close with his father, though feels it’s best to keep his distance as he is still heavily linked to the criminal world and landon is aware that it’s not good for him to be in the same proximity.
• landon is a very skilled driver. it’s a natural skill for him, always has been. he can very easily get out of sticky situations if driving is involved.
• it takes a lot for him to be loyal to someone, but once he is he is loyal to a fault. once he decides to have your back, he’s got it forever (even if he insists he doesn’t.)
• more tba.
WANTED CONNECTIONS
His sister — I’ll eventually get around to putting this as a wc on the main. But this is by far the most important relationship in his life, and her thriving makes it all worth it to him.
His cousin — Also his roommate. The person hoping to help keep him on the straight and narrow. Also maybe his best friend even though he will not admit that.
Reoccurring fling — Self explanatory and a lot we could do with it.
anything tbh!!

𝐃𝐀𝐘 𝟏: 𝐆𝐎𝐃 𝐈𝐒 𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐓
Despite the many trials we face, we can trust that the light of God’s comfort will shine through.
𝐃𝐀𝐘 𝟏: 𝐆𝐎𝐃 𝐈𝐒 𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐓
𝙍𝙀𝘼𝘿
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too.
2 Corinthians 1:3–5
Additional Reading: Psalm 46; Psalm 119:50, 76; John 14:16–17; Hebrews 4:14–16; Revelation 21:3–4
In November 1873, a man named Horatio Spafford planned a much-needed trip to Europe with his family. The past two years had been calamitous for them. Because of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, their finances had taken a steep downturn and most of their property and investments had burned to the ground.
At the last minute, Spafford was forced to stay behind because of sudden business demands, and his family went ahead on the steamship. But what was meant to be a family getaway turned into a horrific tragedy. As the ship was crossing the Atlantic, it collided with another vessel. All four of Spafford’s daughters perished; only his wife survived. Spafford found out about his daughters’ demise in a telegram, and immediately sailed to England to meet his grieving wife.
Truth be told, tragedies like this are no longer alien to many of us. The coronavirus pandemic has endangered everyone and put to death millions around the world. The trials we’ve faced have wounded our souls.
Through gaping cracks, however, the light of God’s comfort shines through. This was Paul’s message in 2 Corinthians: God is our comfort. Paul didn’t just write this; having faced trials of many kinds throughout his life and ministry, he had experienced God’s comfort firsthand.
The transcendent God who governs all things from His heavenly throne is also an immanent God who is close to the brokenhearted:
• Our heavenly Father is the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction.
• Jesus is our great High Priest, and is able to empathize with us and invite us to approach Him with confidence, so that we can receive mercy and grace in our time of need. Because of His sacrifice on the cross, we are comforted by the truth that we are accepted in the throne room of heaven.
• The Holy Spirit is our comforter and counselor who empowers us and intercedes for us when no words can express our grief. A “comforter” (in Greek, 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘬𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘰𝘴) literally means one who is called near for help by comforting, encouraging, or mediating on behalf of someone else.
In the face of grief, the entire Godhead—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—is by our side when we call to Him for help. This is our comfort and confidence. Trials and suffering allow us to experience God’s comfort in tangible ways, in the same way that the darkest of nights allows us to behold the beauty of the stars.
As Horatio Spafford traveled to meet his wife and his ship passed over the place where his daughters had died, he soothed his broken spirit by writing a timeless hymn that continues to soothe believers today:
𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘢 𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘵𝘩 𝘮𝘺 𝘸𝘢𝘺
𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘴𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘴 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘴𝘦𝘢 𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘴 𝘳𝘰𝘭𝘭
𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘮𝘺 𝘭𝘰𝘵, 𝘛𝘩𝘰𝘶 𝘩𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘢𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘢𝘺
𝘐𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭, 𝘪𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘮𝘺 𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘭
In this world broken by sin, pain and death are inevitable. But God has promised to redeem and restore all things. Someday, He will wipe away every tear, death and sorrow will be no more, and we will experience permanent joy in the presence of the God of all comfort forever (Revelation 21:3–4). Our comfort and hope are deeply anchored on the certainty of His promise.
Like Spafford, as unthinkable as it may sound, may we respond to life’s tragedy, grief, and pain with trust in our God who comforts us. May God’s presence also cause us to say, “It is well with my soul,” and may we comfort others with the comfort we have received from Him.
The entire Godhead is by our side when we call to Him for help.
𝙍𝙀𝙁𝙇𝙀𝘾𝙏
In the past six months, what has caused the most grief or hardship in your life? How has God been a very present help to you in trouble (Psalm 46:1)? What are you learning about Him through these challenges?
God’s comfort is not just for our benefit. It is also for others who are suffering. Who can you comfort with the comfort you have received from God? What are you willing to do so they can know God as their comforter?
𝙍𝙀𝙎𝙋𝙊𝙉𝘿
Dear God, I cast all my cares upon You, for You are the God of all comfort. Thank You for being my only source of true comfort, my refuge, and my strength. By Your mighty word, You calm the storms that rage in my heart. Jesus, thank You for dying on the cross for me. Through You, I can come boldly before the throne of grace and find mercy and grace in my time of need. Thank You, Holy Spirit, for You are my helper, counselor, and comforter. Use me as Your vessel to comfort those in need with the same comfort that I have received. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Kayak Camping Spots
Tumblr media
Choosing the right destination can help ensure your first overnight trip is a fun and relaxing journey where you become one with the waterways and not your personal re-enactment of Adrift. What makes a destination a good choice for your first overnight kayak trip isn’t just the scenic locations. It’s really more about choosing a place that lets you ease into overnight kayaking and the specific challenges it presents. If you’re a beginner kayaker on your first overnight kayaking trip, it’s best to stay relatively close to home and not venture too far out into the wilderness - kayaking chicago.
It would be perfect for those with children and if you are used to renting your water crafts, after less than one season of use, an inflatable will normally have paid for itself. Having done a fair amount of kayaking in the past but always with a hard-shell kayak, I became instantly thrilled with the very little amount of work involved with an inflatable model. This lake is doubtless one of the prettiest to discover with its many islands to kayak round, and it gets increasingly atmospheric the additional you journey down it.
Kayaking to a place like this is a nice way to work out the kinks with your kayaking gear without being too far out in the middle of nowhere. Morris's location this place is peaceful and a perfect getaway for the day trip. Seeking the place as the most wanted tourist destination, the place is a great destination for bird watching, kayaking and camping of course! One can hire bots and rear to the extremes of the vast lake till you find yourself tranquilizing in the arms of nature - kayak rental near me.

First Date
Fandom: Chicago PD
Series: One Shot
Pairing/s: Jay Halstead x Reader
Warning/s: none
Word Count: 1,627
Summary: After being friends with Jay for some time, he finally asks you out on a date, but it doesn't exactly go according to plan...
Masterlist
Tumblr media
You were putting the finishing touches on your outfit when your doorbell rang, nervous butterflies building in your stomach as you froze, ring midway down your middle finger.
You'd liked Jay for a while, but you'd always just assumed he didn't feel the same way you did. So when he'd asked you out, you'd of course said yes, but your anxiety about the evening had only grown with each passing moment. What if he didn't have a good time? What if you said something wrong? What if it was a disaster?
Doorbell, you reminded yourself, right.
Giving yourself one last quick glance in the mirror, smoothing down a loose strand of hair and running your hand over your burgundy dress to get rid of any creases, you went to the door and opened it.
"Hey," you smiled at Jay, taking in his smart shirt and trousers, sleeves rolled up to his elbows. Needless the say, he looked good.
"Wow, Y/N, you look amazing," he said, not so subtly looking you up and down. Stella had convinced you to wear the dress, though you'd had reservations that it might be a bit too much for a dinner date, but Jay certainly didn't seem to mind.
"Thanks," you could feel your cheeks going red under his gaze.
"You ready to go?" He asked, and you nodded, looking left and right before seeing your bag hung up where you left it next to the door.
"Ready," you told him, grabbing the black suede jacket underneath it and heading out into the hall.
"Our reservation awaits," Jay offered you his arm in an exaggerated manner and you took it, looping your arm through his as you laughed.
"Well, then I guess we should get going then," you hadn't stopped smiling as you headed down the elevator and out into the street, your arm still in Jay's. It felt nice, comfortable, right.
You'd decided to walk to the restaurant, it was too far away and it gave you a chance to chat on the way. You asked about Jay's day at work, the case they'd closed and Jay's near miss with a getaway car, and he asked you about your day at work, your mind-numbingly boring rounds, and your not quite as boring patient who'd pulled a gun on Maggie in the ED.
Before you knew it, you'd reached the restaurant. Or, at least, Jay told you it was the restaurant.
All the lights were off, the doors were closed, and the chairs were visibly up on the table.
"You sure this is the right place?" You asked him, covering your eyes with one hand as you peered into the darkness, not a soul in sight.
"Positive," Jay told you, pulling out his phone, a confused look on his face, "sorry about this."
You took a look at the main entrance, spotting a sign on the window. "Jay," you got his attention, pointing at the freshly taped sheet of paper.
"Ah crap," Jay swore, reading the sign. Close due to failed health inspection. Of course it was.
"Well, that's a bust, sorry about that," Jay told you, laughing a little awkwardly and looking a bit embarrassed. This was a nice restaurant. Well, it was supposed to be anyway, and you could tell he'd put thought into it.
"It's not your fault, we can try somewhere else," you offered, noticing he still looked disappointed you added, "besides, if it failed its health inspection, I'm really quite glad we didn't end up eating here."
Jay laughed, tension easing a little. "Up for a walk around?"
Now it was your turn to offer your arm to him, "lead the way Halstead."
He took it with a smile, more relaxed, and you headed off around the corner, hoping you rumbling stomach wasn't loud enough for Jay to hear.
After three separate restaurants told you they were fully booked, Jay looked like he was beginning to lose hope.
"Y/N, I am so sorry, I had this whole evening planned, and now we can't even get any food," Jay apologised, shaking his head.
"What about there?" You suggested, pointing to a Greek food truck down the road.
"Street food?" He laughed, his own stomach audibly rumbling now, "well, I guess we'll be the best dressed customers they have tonight."
You smiled and made your way, ordering two gyros before finding an unoccupied bench nearby.
"Well, it isn't the meal I had planned, but-" Jay took a bite and sighed, "-it is good though."
You laughed through your own mouthful of food, savouring the taste. It wasn't the easiest food to eat without bits falling everywhere, but you did the best you could, suddenly self-conscious in front of Jay.
Jay looked back up at you from his food and grinned. "What? Do I have something on my face?" You asked, wiping the sides of your mouth as his shoulders moved up and down in a silent chuckle.
"No- here," he grabbed his napkin and wiped the end of your nose, your faces close together.
"Thanks," you said quietly, not knowing where your voice had gone as you found yourself looking in Jay's eyes.
His eyes flicked down to your lips then back up. He looked like he was about to say something when you felt a few drops of water hit your face, both looking up to see rain start pouring on you.
"Oh you have got to be kidding me," you complained, shaking your head at the sheer bad luck of the evening, your moment with Jay broken by the rain.
You both stood, realising neither of you had actual coats or umbrellas, the remains of your food quickly getting soaked.
"My apartment is the closest," you told him, feeling your hair start flattening to your face as water dripped down your neck and under your dress.
Jay agreed, taking your soggy gyros from your hand and disposing of the leftovers of both, uneatable now.
"Let's go," he took your arm again as the rain picked up, walking quickly to the side of the road to see if you could catch a cab.
You, and everyone else who had been out.
After about 10 minutes of feeling the rain soak into your shoes and your dress become a second skin, you put your arm on Jay's back to get his attention.
"We need to get walking," you said as the rain turned to hail, causing you to add, "now."
He did not need to be told twice, both of you picking up the pace as you made your way back to your apartment, trying not to slip as you went.
You fumbled for your keys as you arrived, feeling the hail pick up almost painfully as you both entered the building, grateful for the sudden warmth.
Both soaked you took a second to catch your breath and collect your thoughts. Jay stood next to you, looking at the puddle of water that was dripping around him onto the floor.
"This doesn't look like it's going to stop soon," you said, "do you want to come up and towel off, call a taxi or wait until it passes?"
Jay smiled at the offer, looking relieved although he said, "I don't want to put you out."
You could tell he wanted to come up, shivering in his wet clothes, but still trying to be polite. "Jay, it's fine, really, you look like a wet dog."
He laughed as you both began to walk to the lift. "If I wasn't such a gentleman, I'd make a comment about looking at your own hair before saying that to me."
You gasped and looked at your hair in the mirrors on both sides of the lift, now a disastrous messy beehive on your head. You could feel yourself going red, make up lines on your face where it had started to come off in the rain too.
"Oh my god I'm a mess," you commented, looking at your soggy dress as the lift dinged, your feet squelching as you walked to your door.
The way Jay was looking at you, he clearly didn't seem to mind, stepping into your apartment after you.
He stayed standing in the doorway as you grabbed towels, not wanting to get more water on the floor if he could help it.
"Here," he passed it to him.
"Thanks," he wiped his face and his hair thoroughly, patting his neck dry as he noticed you watching him.
You looked away quickly, focusing on drying yourself of. You'd ditched your jacket, which had provided no protection from the elements, and you were very away of just how soaked through your dress had become.
Now it was Jay's turn to watch you.
"This isn't nearly what I had planned," he told you apologetically.
"I don't mind, I had a good time," you told him honestly, looking back up at him and smiling.
"Really?"
"Really?" You confirmed.
"Because I had this whole idea, romantic dinner, candles, I'd charm you with great conversation, we'd have a sunset walk, and then... well it would have been the works," he explained.
"Oh yeah?" You bit your lip as he took a step closer, "and how was that 'then...' going to end?"
"Well, that would have depended on whether the evening went well," he told you, taking another step closer.
"Which it did," you reminded him, "so what was the plan?"
"Something, a bit like this," he muttered, closing the gap and kissing you. His hands were like ice against your skin as he dropped the towel and cupped your face, moving to your waist as yours went around his neck.
The date might not have gone exactly according to plan, but you had no complaints.

Note
Since so many people have asked for it already, is there any way you can post the Sam girlfriends timeline on your blog? Or would that bring trouble from ES lurking here? Thanks.
Hi Anon, I have gotten a bunch of requests for this in Asks, Comments, and DM's, I'm too tired to do a full retrospective with exact dates, picture and video proof, etc (it's all out there), BUT I will do a sort of summarized general timeline. As for trouble from ES lurking...that's never stopped me. Hahahaha.
Amy Shiels: Sam and Amy starred in the movie "Young Alexander" in 2003. The movie didn't get released for like 10 years. They seem to have been FWB (Friends With Benefits) on and off 2003 until 2014. For more info, search hashtag #AmyShiels and #TheBarbieWars #BarbieWars #Samy. Confirmed dated, but most likely FWB. More on Amy down below.
Abbie Salt: First met around 2011, when Sam filmed "A Princess for Christmas" with Abbie's sister, actress, Charlotte Salt. They dated briefly then.  For more info, search hashtag #AbbieSalt #Sabbie. Confirmed dated. More on Abbie down below.
Katie Rebekah Osborne: Dated before 2012, broke up when Sam left London to tour with Batman Live and Katie moved from London to Australia. For more info, search hashtag #KatieRebekah #KatieR. Confirmed Dated.
Amy Shiels: After being on and off for years, Amy went with Sam to the premiere of Outlander in New York in July 2014. Then when Sam went to L.A. where Amy lives in Sept. 2014, after Outlander Season 1 filming ended. Amy and Sam were photographed out on dates... until Sam met another petite blonde, Cody Kennedy in Oct. 2014. For more info, search hashtag #AmyShiels and #TheBarbieWars #BarbieWars #Samy. Confirmed Dated.
Cody Kennedy: October 2014 to sometime in January 2015. For more info, search hashtag #CodyKennedy #TheBarbieWars #BarbieWars #Sody. Confirmed dated.
Abbie Salt: When Sam went back to the UK for the holidays Dec. 2014,Jan. 2015, he met up with Abbie again and they rekindled their romance. Cody went bye-bye and Abbie and Sam dated from around February 2015 to November 2015. For more info, search hashtag #AbbieSalt #Sabbie. Confirmed dated.
Mackenzie Mauzy: Sam's longest committed relationship was with actress/singer, Mackenzie Mauzy. They dated from around March 2016 (first seen together by my eyewitness source holding hands at the Guns N Roses concert in L.A. April 1, 2016) to some time in 2018. For more info, search hashtag #MackenzieMauzy #Samzie. Confirmed dated.
After Mackenzie, Sam seems to have dated a variety of different women and does not seem to have been involved in another exclusive relationship.
So for 2018 to the present, 2021, here are the women Sam has been seen with (not in chronological order, since I can't remember exact dates and I'm not going to go searching). I'll post the women's name and the hashtag to search under for more info:
Pretty Blonde with Sam at Nobu London opening #NobuMysteryBlonde #NobuMysteryWoman Unconfirmed whether that was his plus one date for the event or a PR person. Has never been identified by name as far as I know. Fandom CSI fail. Unconfirmed dated.
Hayley Helene #tunagate girl #HayleyHelene. Not confirmed they dated, but she was on the boat with him during #tunagate so people assumed. Unconfirmed dated.
Danielle Kling #DanielleKling, woman he met in Hawaii. Also most likely the woman with the braids spotted with Sam in Scotland later on. Fan posted a pic. Confirmed dated.
Christina Ochoa: #ChristinaOchoa #Samtina, picture of them holding hands...at an airport, I think. Confirmed dated.
Georgia Ellenwood: #GeorgiaEllenwood #Samgia Spent time together in Chicago, he also went to one of her meets in NY, she posted IG story with Sam. Pretty much confirmed dated.
Hannah James: #HannahJames #Samnah #Jamieva #PlotTwist.  Recently received source confirmation that Sam and Hannah did indeed date, I think sometime 2018 or 2019.  MORE on Hannah down below.
Gia Marie: #GiaMarie #MissGia #G #Gia #MissGiaMarie #GiaSam #Hawaiigate Pic of them with their arms around each other walking on Malibu Pier, both posted from weekend getaway to Del Mar or Big Sur, can’t remember which one it was, I think it was Del Mar. Anyhoo, they went away together for a weekend getaway at a beach town in CA before they spent weeks in Hawaii together. Both posted from quarantine in Hawaii. Confirmed dated.
Anna Longford: #AnnaLongford #A #AH Mutually followed on Instagram. She lives near London, but posted from Scotland a lot, when Sam was there. He also was in London when she was there. Speculation simply because same place, same time, they mutually follow, and she’s the type he usually goes for--pretty, sporty, blonde. Complete speculation and unconfirmed dated.
Hannah James: #HannahJames #Samnah #Jamieva #PlotTwist. Both Sam and Hannah have been in Los Angeles, specifically Malibu recently. I have source confirmation that Sam was in L.A. still as of Friday. Not sure if he’s still here or not. But as of Friday, Sept. 3, 2021, he was. Received 100% CONFIRMATION from a trusted person that Sam and Hannah did indeed date sometime starting in 2018-2019. We had all suspected but it had never been confirmed, now it is. Seems like they may still see each other when they can. That part is unconfirmed. But they for sure dated in the past. Pic of them looking cozy together. Comments from mutual friends that would not know Hannah if not for Sam. The only connection is Sam. Confirmed dated.
So, that’s all folks...unless I forgot someone. Sam has had some exclusive, committed relationships and has also dated casually...sounds like a NORMAL MAN to me.
PS. Anyone come at me with any negative comments about Sam and I will blast you. Sam is 41, gorgeous, rich, famous, and a nice guy, given all that, he could have dated 100 times the amount of women by now. By Hollywood standards, he’s, dare I say it? A monk, hahahaha. Like I’ve said before, he should date more, expand his horizons...try a cougar perhaps. Ahem. ;-)

Febuwhump Day 1
Title: things gone unsaid
Fandom/Pairing: Chicago PD/Burzek
Prompt: head wound
Warnings/triggers: gun violence
Kim saw Adam drop to the ground out of the corner of her eye and felt her stomach drop right along with him.
They’d been tracking a trio of drug dealers, who couldn’t care less about how many bodies they left in their wake, for weeks when they’d finally cornered them in the abandoned warehouse.  And it hadn’t taken more than five minutes for the encounter to turn deadly as first the dealers had pulled out their weapons and then the members of intelligence returned fire.  And now Adam was on the ground and that was blood splattered all over his face.
“Adam,” she yelled, eyes darting back and forth from his prone body and the dealers, two of whom were still on their feet and fighting hard.  Her stomach twisted when Adam didn’t so much as stir before glancing sidelong at Jay on her other side.  “Cover me,” she barked.
Jay didn’t argue, just nodded sharply and obediently squeezed off a half dozen rounds, forcing the dealers to duck for cover and giving Kim enough time to run across the exposed area separating her from Adam.  She was terrified of what she might find when she did but she didn’t hesitate, quickly reaching his side and dropping to her knees.
Relief, more intense than Kim thought she’d ever experienced before, swept through her as she saw the shallow rise and fall of his chest, and she felt near tears as she quickly searched for injury.
“Sorry, sorry,” she said, choking on something between a laugh and a sob.  She’d found the wound on his scalp and her probing had caused him to open his eyes and hiss something uncomplimentary at her.
A bullet had clipped him, and by Kim’s estimate had been less than an inch away from doing fatal damage, but other than that he seemed okay.  She didn’t let herself think about that and busied herself by yanking off her jacket, wadding it up, and pressing it to the wound with one hand while she tried to clean as much blood off his face as she could with the other.
“Kim?”  Adam frowned and peered up at her when her ministrations didn’t ease.  “What happened?  Are we clear?”
Kim was more concerned about the slight slurring to his words, and truthfully wouldn’t have cared if the drug dealers right at that moment were driving away in a getaway car.  But he was struggling to push himself up to see for himself, so Kim risked a quick look around; the gunfire had ended and Hailey and Kev were cuffing a dealer each while Voight stood next to the third who was on the ground and unmoving.  Jay however, was standing apart from the others, speaking with his phone held up to his ear, as he looked at Kim and Adam.
“We’re okay, we’re okay, an ambulance is coming, you’re going to be okay.”
Kim knew she was babbling but didn’t know how to stop.  Adam was the unshakable one between them, the grounded one, always on his feet, always ready to take on whatever came next.  She wasn’t sure she knew how to be that for him.
Adam reached up and found the hand that was still pressing the wadded up cloth to his head, fingers fitting around her wrist easily as his thumb slid back and forth over her thundering pulse.
“I know, I know I’m going to be okay.”  His gaze wasn’t quite focused on her, his words still slurring a little, but he sounded sure of himself.
So sure, that Kim found herself asking, “How do you know that?”
“Because you’re with me.”
This time it was her heart that swooped, but before Kim could figure out what to say in response, the sound of approaching sirens reached her ears, and within seconds, Sylvie and Violet were bursting into the warehouse, a gurney rolling between them.
Sylvie and Violet were calm as they tended to Adam, a calmness that Kim latched onto even as her stomach still twisted painfully at the sight of him in the back of the ambulance.  Adam, who claimed to be feeling better with every passing minute, wanted to skip the hospital altogether once his head had been bandaged but it was a non-negotiable for the two paramedics.
So as they were preparing to depart, Kim found herself stepping up onto the back of the ambulance, pausing only long enough to toss a “I’m riding along” over her shoulder to the others.  No one objected, possibly because they’d already decided that it made the most sense for her to go along, or even more likely because they knew arguing would be futile.
Kim felt like she didn’t know where to look or what to do with her hands as she sat beside Sylvie in the ambulance.  She caught Adam’s gaze once long enough for something deep and intense to flash between them but then she looked away, the ambulance feeling much too small and much too public all at the same time to say all the things she wanted to.
Sylvie, oblivious to everything that was hanging unsaid between them, said comfortingly, “They probably won’t even keep you overnight, you’ll be able to sleep in your own bed.”
His own bed, in the apartment they shared together, with Makayla, who felt like she was both of theirs.  Kim shuddered as she couldn't help but imagine what it would have been like to go home without him and have to explain to Makayla where he was.  The thought had her leaning forward once Sylvie turned away to fiddle with something and ease her hand into Adam’s, lifting it so she could brush a kiss to the back of his palm.  She allowed herself to rest her forehead against his hand for a fraction of a second as she savoured it’s warmth, the reminder that he was still here, that he was still alive.
They didn’t rush exactly when they got to the hospital, but moved just fast enough that Kim was worried about being left behind, not quite ready to have Adam out of her sight just yet.  But she was stopped at the entrance to his room by an unfamiliar doctor in a white coat.
“Family?” he inquired, not noticing or perhaps graciously pretending not to notice as Kim stood on tiptoe to keep Adam in her sight over his shoulder.
The question drew Kim up short.  Was she family?  No, not really.  But she didn’t not feel like family either.  How could she possibly explain their tangled history to this stranger?  Did being engaged once make them family?  Did them almost having one child together and ending up with another make them family?  But Adam was more than just Makayla’s father to her.  He was her rock.  Her safe place.
“He’s my partner,” Kim said, the word feeling wholly inadequate for everything Adam was to her.
Whether the doctor took ‘partner’ to mean in the romantic sense, or if he just noticed her badge, he stepped aside and allowed her to finally enter either way.  Kim wasted no time in crossing the room to slip into the chair at Adam’s bedside.
“This really isn’t necessary,” he was arguing with a nurse who was checking under his bandage.
“Let’s let the doctor decide that,” she said briskly in response.
Kim could tell Adam wasn’t exactly happy with that, but maybe he could tell that between Kim and the medical staff he wasn’t getting out without a thorough look over, because he sunk back against the pillows without further complaint.  So, for hours the doctors and nurses had him turn this way, and look at this light, lie still for this scan and so on.
Kim wasn’t sure exactly when it had happened, but between one test and the next she found her hand had closed around Adam’s once again, thumb automatically rubbing soothing circles into the back of his palm as she saw him get more and more frustrated with how long everything was taking.  It proved helpful when the doctor mused that a CT scan might not go astray either and Kim could sense Adam gearing up to protest.  He paused however when she squeezed his hand comfortingly, glanced at her, and then acquiesced with a sigh and slight nod.
Throughout it all there was a constant hustle and bustle in the treatment room as the doctor appeared and disappeared, nurses came in and out, along with x-ray technicians, and all manner of other medical staff.  So Adam and Kim didn’t get a chance to be alone with each other until he’d returned from his scan and they were impatiently awaiting the results.
“Sorry if I freaked you out back at the warehouse with what I said,” Adam said suddenly, interrupting the silence of the room.  They’d both been staring at the little tv in the top corner of the room, pretending to watch the muted cooking show that was playing on the screen.
“You didn’t freak me out,” Kim said automatically, not even pretending to play dumb.
Adam scoffed, a more cynical sound that he would usually direct at her.  “I saw your face.”
Her mother had always told Kim that she wore her heart on her sleeve, and while she’d mostly trained herself out of that trait working in intelligence, it seemed that Adam Ruzek would always be able to read her.
“I wasn’t freaked out,” Kim corrected softly, but didn’t elaborate further.
“Kim…” Adam prompted.
She sighed but stood from her chair and perched on the edge of his bed instead so she could say this to him face-to-face.
“I wasn’t freaked out,” she insisted.  “But I was surprised.”  The question was written all over his face so she continued.  “I don’t think I’ve ever realised that I could be such a comfort to you.  It always feels like you’re there to pick me up when I fall, to hold me when I’m breaking apart, and it scared me for a long time thinking that you might be able to handle walking away from me but I would never survive losing you.”
She doesn’t say it out loud, but she knows they’re both thinking of their broken engagement, of the thought that he might someday grow bored of her and walk away just like had with all his other engagements, of the way she had made the decision to walk away first and the way she’s kept him at arm's length ever since.  It had taken them both a long time to recognise it for the act of self preservation that it was.
“I guess part of me still thought that you didn’t need me as much as I need you.  Until you said that, that you would be alright as long as I was with you, because…” Kim trailed off and took a deep breath, wondering if she was really going to admit what had been growing clearer to her for months now.  “Because that’s how I feel about you, Adam.  All I need to be alright is you.”
She didn’t even realise a tear had slipped down her cheek until he reached out and brushed it away with the pad of his thumb.  He didn’t pull his hand away immediately afterwards though, cupping her cheek with it as he looked earnestly into her eyes.
“Darlin’,” he said, his voice the most serious she’d ever heard.  “I have always needed you and I will always need you.”
Kim hiccupped against the rising threat of more tears, but allowed Adam to pull her closer so they could finally lean forward for a kiss that felt like it had been years in the making.
“We’re all in on this, right?” Adam asked when they’d drawn back far enough to rest their foreheads together.  “No more messing around, no more running, we’re all in, the proposal, and the bad banquet hall, and the babies.”
“Yes,” she sighed, her breath warm against his face.  “Yes to all of it.  I love you.”
“I love you too.  Now can we please find that damn doctor so he’ll let me out of here and we can go home?”
Kim chuckled, and leaned forward to sneak another quick kiss.  Then she leaned back, eyes sparkling, and said, “You got it.”
