Getting the kids ready for school is never easy. So I try to do a lot of prep work during the weekend. One way is pre-selecting the kids clothes. Including sweatshirt, t shirt, socks, and pants. I used 99 cent store shoe boxes and label them with the days of the week. That way, every morning is much quicker. What social media doesn't show you... I have a real passion to show the world what social media doesn't want us to see! This is me on the left.... after the hustle and bustle of getting the kids ready for school. The panic of losing Corey's school shoes, the where's your school tie, and making sure all kid's had actually out their lunches in their bags!!! We don't all wake up looking fabulous! We all have bad hair! We all don't wake up with a full face! We are all in PJ'S rushing around manically! So about 10.30 I went live in my beauty group on Facebook, showing my quick makeup routine and how i do my flick trick with my eyeliner! My anxiety is undercontrol today, slight wobble last night, but it was because I was tired. So I meditated and journalled, re-wrote my jobs list and managed to fall asleep by 8 45! Score !!! One of my favorites moments is when she’s putting on her dress! First off I’m so glad I’m a lady so that the ladies can trust me to be in the room with them, but secondly don’t mind me if I’m tearing up in the corner somewhere because I just need a second to recompose myself after I see the sisterly love expressed! I have four sisters and we’re all different in so many ways but also very much the same and brought up on the same values. As the weather gets colder, I’m find myself sending out lots of thoughts and prayers to my sisters and all the sisters out there! Eight Ways to Get Your Little One School Ready

Written for and published in the latest issue of Little Treasures Magazine!

1.   Let your toddler pack their own bag.  Hand over the responsibility of back packing for swimming lessons, play dates, preschool or a night at nana’s- your toddler will relish in the responsibility.  You will probably need to do a bit of post packing supervision, or even pack a separate bag if needed.

2.   Establish a good ‘getting out the door’ routine with your toddlers.  Making your home ‘toddler friendly’ in that they can access what they need makes getting out the door more of a team effort.  Have a step next to the basin so she can brush her own teeth and hair and set up a basked for shoes and hats and low hooks for jackets by the door.

3.   Build up periods of concentration in your toddler.  Concentration is an essential skill and all to often we casually interrupt our children when they are absorbed in a task.  Next time you go to call your child just check they are not about to put the final block on their tower or essential wing on their Lego jet fighter.

4.   Teach your child to wait their turn before speaking.  Make eye contact, remind them to wait their turn and rest a hand on their shoulder so they know you haven’t forgotten they are there and have something important to say.  As soon as there is a break in your conversation, let them speak.

5.  Establish some good knowledge around math and language to give your child the best start at school.  Knobbed animal puzzles are great for learning pencil grip and naming animal parts.  Number puzzles are a fantastic way for your child to start connecting numbers to quantities.

6.  Show your child how to be organised.  Get them into the habit of knowing where and how to put their things away (coats, shoes, lunchbox) and they’ll become confident at knowing how to get what they need when they need it in the classroom.

7.  Teach the art of completing a task from start to finish.  Involve your toddler in every day chores such as packing their lunch box in the morning, then emptying it, cleaning it and putting it away at the end of the day to help them learn routine.

8.  Help them develop their communication skills.  Encourage your toddler to talk by taking the time to sit and listen to them, as well as encouraging them to talk calmly and face-to-face when any conflicts arise.
