OKAY I’M GONNA NEED TO TALK ABOUT THIS VIDEO

I’m...so warmed by this? I am a worrywart beyond repair, so of course my concern has always been for the health and wellbeing of our two favorite boys, and I honestly think this new schedule is great. Not only does it highlight two fanmade things that have always been a staple in this fandom (GG animated and compilations), it allows the Grumps to work on other projects without being burned out by a recording schedule. (So, in other words, I’m expecting less sleep deprivation/jet lag Grumps episodes, which will be super helpful to Dan, who is traveling to Hawaii and Australia for tours.)

The way it was framed (a warm spotlight on Dan and Arin, the calm aura both were exuding) called to mind, for me, most Youtube apology/”real talk” videos that I’ve seen come from other gaming channels, like Markiplier and Jacksepticeye. However, I think this is the first video that I’ve seen come from any channel that so warmly addresses the “crew,” the employees, and acknowledge the “channel” as a “company.”

I’ve never felt more warmth and affection from the talk of YouTube algorithms. I’ve seen a lot of rage and complaints (which are warranted), but never an explanation as to why it really matters, and Dan did that so well. “We don’t want to fire our friends” [sic] is the reason to support Grumps at this point. It’s not some sort of vague talk about one person losing views (and therefore, money), it’s about the bigger picture, and it shows a lot of foresight, and honestly? I wouldn’t have expected anything less! And while the words did come from Dan (I’ve noticed that he’s very intellectual; very fitting of his House, Ravenclaw!), I’ve no doubt Arin would say something similar, and I’ve no doubt he thinks similarly. What I’ve always thought was cool about Dan and Arin is that I’ve never seen two people (not involved romantically) who are more like one person, completely united. It’s something that’s so interesting about their dynamic, and one of the many reasons they’re so entertaining to watch.

Now, this video is meant to tug on heartstrings, and is very much humble. Yes, the two heads of Grumps are doing just fine financially. And that’s something we should note about most YouTubers, who own big houses, expensive cars, designer clothing, etc. But again, I just find it so interesting and so refreshing that, in the selfless fashion so typical of them both, they are primarily concerned with the others, who depend on them for employment.

If this isn’t reason enough to support Grumps, I don’t know what is. All I can say is, please subscribe. I’ve never met two people, I’ve never seen a company more worth your time and the click of the subscribe button.

Nominees announced for the 2018 Doug Wright Awards

Nominees for the 14th annual Doug Wright Awards have been announced by the nominating committee. The Doug Wright Awards honor “the best work and most promising talent in Canadian comics.”

Duncan Macpherson, editorial cartoonist at the Montreal Standard, Toronto Star and Maclean’s magazine over the course of five decades, is this year’s inductee to the Giants of the North, the Doug Wright Awards’ hall of fame. Macpherson passed away in 1993. You can read more about him on the Doug Wright website.

worrywart (he/him) is a red doll who represents worry, concern, vulnerability, and sensitivity. he's a nervous sort who can't help but care about himself, others, and the world around him!

sunshine lollipop (she/her) is an orange alien who represents luck, happiness, friendliness, and positivity. she's a ball of energy and joy, seeing the best in everything and everyone!

mr. nice guy (he/him) is a yellow puppet who represents kindness, politeness, helpfulness, and goodness. he loves making the world a better place and putting a smile on people's face!

magic (he/him) is a green dragon who represents creativity, imagination, beauty, and thoughtfulness. he is rarely bored, as he always has an art project to create or an idea to explore!

four-eyes (they/them) is a blue robot who represents knowledge, logic, memory, and organization. they're an encyclopedic source of anything anyone needs to know - and they know it!

mr. nobody (he/him) is an indigo ghost who represents fatigue, melancholy, introversion, and quiet. he's a subdued fellow who says little, but thinks a whole lot!

daisy bell (she/her) is a purple fairy who represents nature, curiosity, understanding, and grace. she can talk to animals and enjoys learning new things about everyone!

ne'er-do-well (she/her) is a black devil who represents intrusive thoughts, selfishness, anger, and impulse. she was banished from the town by the mayor, and is trying to get back in...!

goody two-shoes (she/her) is a white angel who represents perfection, love, beauty, and safety. she's the mayor of goody gardens, who's always making the neighborhood perfect for all!
