ok so!! i honestly think that eilia at first thought that it was just really weird that roderick had all these wives and she was like WHY WOULD THEY PUT UP W THAT but uhhhh recently she's been like 'oh. ig maybe they didn't get much of a choice' bc that's certainly been ~her experience re: dating roderick hahaha and eilia def has more agency than they did, being -- though deposed -- a queen so now honestly i think she just feels sooooo horrible for them and is lowkey looking at them -- these two V DIFFERENT yet both v clearly unhappy women -- like 'there but by the grace of the guardians go i' basically laskdjfkdlsf and honestly i think atp she's really come around in the way she looks at them both!! esp marian (bc i def think amira gives off resting bitch face but as a full blown personality disorder even if ur tryna approach her whole deal optimistically alskdjflksjdfajdf)!!!!!

i ~do think if she knows that a lot of the varmont kids have a good relationship w the malconaires that would def be a boost in their favor bc eilia trusts them etc but i ~do think eilia is still feeling far from trusting of the varmonts, themselves, even if she does know that!! just...'at least they're not as horrible as i thought' rather than 'they're good ppl after all' basically hahaha and i do think that, given that its looking more or more like she might be wife #4, eilia has been thinking abt what roderick might look like as a dad since she's now afraid he might be the father of ~her children, and she's like YIKES

so, all in all, she's feeling much more sympathetic towards both marian and her family (minus roderick, STILL decidedly NOT a fan of his)!! and esp w marian on the cusp of this w her sister, i can see where they could maybe start having more ~honest conversations, perhaps? bc i do feel that eilia has played this entire thing by being observant and polite -- stalwart where she needs (ie when it comes to her country and astairans and keeping them safe etc) to be but other than that mostly closed off emotionally and courteous, but basically just tryna give them NOTHING bc she figures they'll use anything at all against her they can

but yeah its been a looooong journey getting there i feel hahahaha and even now she'd def be tentative and clam up at the slightest sign of trouble ngl

giadesstrin Not her two first thoughts being if Eilia and arthur 😩😩😩 @forgottenarias forgottenarias @giadesstrin she's REAL MAD at herself that she even DEIGNED to think of arthur in that moment. how DARE her brain! giadesstrin @forgottenarias how dare her brain 😩😩😩 arthur meanwhile def assumes no onE would think of him first — roderick thinks of roderick, Marian thinks of cassandra (as she should!) as does probably the entire rest of the family, and Arthur’s got this but yeah — he tells himself this is a good thing bc ppl know he can take care of himself but it secretly makes him feel v lonely and it certainly wouldn’t occur to him that he might increasingly be one of the first ppl aria thinks of adfhhdsd

phabblebabbles @giadesstrin i'm realizing more and more that Aria is internally WAY more dependant on other people that i kind of thought? and she def tries to hide it but i think she actually doesn't have as strong of an opinion of herself/abilities as I initially thought so she gets this strength from people around her (like how she tends to base her actions on Eilia's actions bc thats her big sister! the queen!) and she felt she needed to be that for Siobhan and whether or not tbc Siobhan actually NEEDED that in her life, aria didn't feel like she was ever that for her (which ALSO goes back to aria's many reluctance to leave w/ siobhan) aria's actually more internally scared than i thought initially, too, but she can't! burden! eilia! so she doesn't talk about it. potentially in the future in the ULTIMATE betrayal (i think half in her mind but also kinda real?) is that eilia = safety but ALSO arthur = safety (in maybe a different way?) which tbc which aria is going to do mental gymnastics about for days i swear a therapist could be making BANK in this castle XD @giadesstrin aslkdhlsf so many message but idk why i'd just had this idea aria & arthur ended up in some epic fight after the ice ball (maybe we discussed it and i forgot? -facepalm-) but i DO remember the idea that she finally hears some sort of half version of what happened @ Kil-Kennar that night so honestly i could def she her throwing out some barb abt it in reference to the riots when she's trying to pretend she's not relieved he's safe (emotions! BOO!) tbc and unintentionally hitting that nerve as well as just being kinda rude which ultimately gets them BOTH their current favorite form of communication: fighting abt things ;) side note i DO still think if/when they actually talk abt kil kennar and she understands what he did and why he did it she's going to change her tune a bit... even if he still thinks it was the wrong choice

Eilia does def feel v TBC Inadequate but she tries to crush that under her heel bc she’s simply what they’ve got so she just has to move forward is her whole thing yknow? So she can’t stop to help aria work through that bc she’s pushing past it herself. And ironically that’s the v safety she offers. Arthur tho? He’s searching w every breath he takes and l, unlike Eilia, he’s lacking any real guidelines beyond whatever Roderick’s latest mood happens to be so he also places his faith in ppl. He’d do anything for someoneTBC he cares abt and a big example of this? Kil-Kennar and I honestly love therefore the idea that that’s the thing that holds the biggest power to drive a wedge between them is also symbolically the v same struggle they’re ~both enduring: putting their strength and confidence and loyalty into others bc they don’t feel they can do that for themselves like…adgjjgfgjjh the SUBTEXT we could imbue there!!! It’s the thing that knits them together, that makes them each a mirror to the other!!! And TBC It’s also the unforgivable sin that comes between them, layered even MORE bc she is a witch too like!!!! phabblebabbles @giadesstrin i def agree that's there a different sort of safety between eilia & arthur for her!! i think for so long its always been eilia in that role (which is like... mental/emotion and not necessarily physical safety bc obv there were guards,etc that represented that!) and in their current situation eilia IS that one thing that connects her to ~before and is this sort of moral guide to what she should do! but w/ arthur i think the more they talk the more she tbc identifies w/ him bc YES they are similar!! they're both in radically different ways living extremely uncertain lives rn-- him w/ the uncertainty of being his fathers heir or not (also if he ends up dead thanks to amira or not!) and she literally has NO idea what the future holds for her-- if Eilia marries Roderick, what happens to her? Is her entire life just being a prisoner in this castle? Does she serve a purpose is Roderick marries her sister or does he just get TBC rid of her? (we of course know roderick has his own ideas but i doubt he's said down to lay out a 5 year plan for her ;) plus he HAS sort of been her ally in those small ways like the whole orphanage business and convincing roderick to let the staffords out of the castle post riot! like if the threat is roderick in some hypothetical situation, is it arthur she goes to instead of eilia? idek but maybe?! @giadesstrin nd just as much as HE wants to be that for someone/her, i think she will ultimately realize she wants to be that for him, too? that he needs it just as much as she does?! esp after he spills his guts abt things in the orangery & she learns abt the realities of Kil-Kennar added to this annoying feeling that maybe he can be good and different i think she's had since they spent time at the orphanage together. like if these two ever got the act together and actually talked about anything of substance i feel like there's going go be this bond or connection or devotion or w/e w/ these two bc they are SO similar in these abstract ways but also different enough that it can sort of push each other to be better in sm way... the idea that they need to draw their strength from/put their faith in others and could BE that for each other!! but honestly the angst of them being disasters a at talking is TOO GOOD! and YES. even if they managed to begin to understand e/o a little bit better there's the mic drop coming asp of him finding out she's a WITCH and that fundamental shift it will make for EVERYTHING & obv his reaction will have a profound effect on her (literally could be life or death lol) but even if it isn't him telling roderick she's a witch still just like how he views her now v before will just be interesting to see but now tbc i'm getting ahead of myself aoishodghsod

As the smoke swirls and the embers fly and rise unto those high-storied accomodations, mingling with the mist off the Thames, she can never reach through the surreal gauze of both to break their fortressed windows.

WORLDBUILDING: THE DISEASE

Here’s some facts just for clarity and organization’s sake. Tbc.

We’re drawing inspiration from the Black Plague, Kuru’s, and Alzheimer’s. The disease affects people’s minds, so the longer they’ve been sick, the more outlandish they become. I’m thinking memory loss, paranoia, perhaps hearing voices; the repercussion of this could then be that they become violent. I’m super interested in mental health, so maybe we could also play around with some Schizophrenic symptoms? Lemme know. 

It’s spreads the same way a common cold would a la basic germ theory. Thus, people who’re closer to the infects (like Col’s aunt) would be more likely to contract the disease. The same goes for children, the elderly, and sickly. Because this is pseudo-historical, however, people obviously wouldn’t understand that. 

Brain blast! What if this is a few years after/in the same decade as the plague, so lore has spread to our fictional country about the way Europeans dealt with the disease. ...tbh I just want a “bring out your dead!” moment.

Also some brainstorming...

How long ago did the disease spread?

We should come up with a sciencey name for ourselves... but also a societally prescribed name a la “The Black Plague”. I’m all about giving things dramatic names (i.e. Prudence’s fancy historical title being The Great Rebuilder.)

I think rug #1 will provide the greatest contrast (in the best possible way!) and personality to your apt, since I think it will allow for the most ~conversation between the pieces. Ofc they are both stunning! Rug #2 is a little more neutral which is usually how I, personally, tend to go w rugs, generally. It is my work-in-progress centering around Isabel Neville, Duchess of Clarence. However, it is told through multiple POVs, which are all 3rd person limited. As such, it is as much a story about the people around her: Warwick, George, Anne Beauchamp, Anne Neville, as about her. It mainly covers the years 1469-1476, but from a different vantage point than the one we usually get.

I would be extremely delighted and grateful for anyone’s opinions or criticisms :).

As for its categories:

A) A Fluffy One

No fluff so far, however, the next chapter which I have already started writing is 70% fluff haha.

George/Isabel, Richard III/Anne Neville and Warwick/his wife Anne Beauchamp

B) An Angsty One

This is pretty much a tale of angst haha.

C) A Multi-Chaptered One

6 Chapters so far, and if all goes to plan 25 total!

D) One AU

This is strictly canon compliant. However, who knows? Maybe I’ll write a spin-off one day. Also, thinking about writing a bunch of one-shots centering around AU crackships such as: Margaret Beaufort/Edward IV, Elizabeth Woodville/Richard III and Margaret of Anjou/Warwick.

2: What scene did you first put down?

It was actually the rose garden scene of the first chapter! The whole fic was supposed to be just that scene (hsdsh), as I had published it as a one-shot here on tumblr. But then that AU really grew on me (and look where I am now, almost 100k words in when counting the sequel) and I just… had to write more. It was really therapeutic to me at the time and helped me coping with some issues I was going through. But yeah! The whole AU premise revolves around that garden scene (thus A Song of Roses), around the idea of Henry and Lizzie realising they were not so different after all and that they could actually have a good time together - if only they would allow themselves to it!It’s always a DELIGHT to talk to you! Honestly, I always get in a state close to fangirling! ✨✨ Thank you so much for sending this ask xx
