The Nine of Antennae card stands as a testament to resilience and the unwavering spirit in the face of adversity. It portrays a figure who, despite being wearied by life's trials, clings to their defenses, a sentinel guarding their realm. This card embodies themes of endurance, perseverance, and the courage to face challenges head-on. In this light, the Giant Mesquite Bug provides an insightful parallel. These distinctive insects inhabit the arid landscapes of the American Southwest, navigating a harsh environment where sustenance is scarce. Despite their challenges, they embody tenacity, serving as a testament to adaptation. Challenges are an integral part of life. Our resilience can be our greatest asset. The Nine of Antennae encourages us to draw strength from our experiences, to bear our scars with pride, and to stand tall when the odds appear insurmountable. Even in the most challenging landscapes of life, our tenacity and determination can guide us through to brighter horizons.
The Giant Mesquite Bug embodies the wisdom of using nature's offerings to survive and thrive. When threatened, the nymphs unleash noxious chemicals acquired from plants in their surroundings. Their ability to produce these compounds stems from a symbiotic partnership with a species of gut bacteria, underscoring the power of collaboration and mutual support. Additionally, these chemicals also serve as a means of communication. They function as pheromones, guiding these insects to form gatherings or disperse, a reminder that unity is essential for both survival and growth. Just as the Nine of Antennae underscores the idea of seeking help when needed, the bug's reliance on symbiosis teaches us the strength found in alliances and mutual assistance.
Ultimately, this duo teaches us to fortify our defenses in the face of adversity, draw strength from our inner resources, and embrace the power of collaboration. By applying these lessons, we too can weather life's challenges with resilience and emerge stronger, just as this remarkable insect thrives in the harshest of environments through adaptation, resourcefulness, and unity.

I live in the southwest desert. I have had a few people joke about calling me when there's weird bugs/etc. at their home to deal with them, and DID become the go to in the hospital for collecting "weird spiders/bugs" and releasing them outside.
Impromptu teaching lectures while say, free-handling a wasp or carrying a three inch solpugid in a beaker never get old, tbh, or even just talking up how much so many maligned creatures AREN'T monsters.
...and sometimes tired ".........................the only way this could hurt me is if I tried to eat it" while 'rescuing' a bunch of nurses from a giant mesquite bug by calmly putting my hand in front of it for it to climb on to relocate it from their picnic table to one of the local mesquite trees.
IT IS WORTH IT! IT IS WONDERFUL to see people at *least* start grasping that even if they're scared shitless of it, it's not a threat to them and does a lot of good!
The more I research about conservation, the more I cannot STAND climate doomerism.
"Ough oof we're all gonna die, everything is going extinct, blaaaahhh"
Meanwhile there are so many efforts and projects that are like "Blease...volunteers...interested homeowners.......random individuals who care.....pleas..........literally begging........."

Giant Mesquite Bug (Thasus neocalifornicus)
The giant mesquite bug inhabits the Sonoran desert from southwestern Arizona to northern Mexico, also found in New Mexico and Texas. It is a leaf-footed bug of the true bug order. As their name suggests, these insects live and feed primarily on mesquite trees, on which they remain throughout their life cycle. Large clusters of these bugs feed on the soft tissues of the tree, such as new leaves, seed pods and young stems. Nymphs are brightly-coloured in red, white and black, while the adults' palette is more subdued.
The giant mesquite's first line of defense is the employment of noxious chemicals, especially among nymphs, which deter potential predators from eating them. The chemical's composition changes as the insect ages; nymphs produce various hexenals, while adults produce hexanal, hexanol and hexyl acetate. 4-oxo-(E)-2-hexenal, produced by immature giant mesquite bugs, is a cytotoxin and mutagen which works primarily as an insecticide. It can kill insects much bigger than the juvenile, such as mantises and tarantulas! It is suggested that the symbiotic bacteria Wolbachia are necessary to the production of this cytotoxin, but the exact mechanism is still unknown.
On the topic of helpful bacteria, the symbiotic bacterium Burkholderia is of large importance to the digestive health of the giant mesquite bug, contributing to nymphs' survival. This bacteria is absent in the eggs and some young nymphs, suggesting that it is acquired sometime after hatching!

Huge huge huge parties have developed giant areas the flooding it with best of times whiskey and drinking it like its water and people have fruit drinks and other things he makes most of the drinking a straight there very hammered there's tons of debauchery it's very evil what's going on there and we're containing them it says we will say is are you going to just exterminators and they say we're going to go after you and they try and go after us and they die but really most of them try and go to the holes and they drive off and they're in big rigs and they take all the trucks and stuff and tanks and go right up to it and gets sucked in and doing it way up North his son is very appreciative and is wondering if he came up with the idea. It says no it was your idea looks like a dummy came up with it I was thinking at first that's all these idiots running out there I said you know what I'm thinking because I'm a dummy I think you might want to put you in charge. Darth Maul Darth Talon, I'm handling the big humongous barbecue which we're going to now add to the whiskey party and we're going to put whiskey dressing of the meats it's been done and we'll have mesquite just by the huge buttload gigantic gigantic gigantic once and huge bonfires cooking meats. I agree it's a good idea he says thank you for the assignment this is ridiculous I'm going to do it.
