There are three categories of people in any action: the person doing the action, the person that the action is done to, and the person witnessing the action. We don’t often think of the witness, the watcher, as a participant in an action, but they are, just as much as the other two categories of people. The witness is just as emotionally affected. When global tragedy occurs, the witnesses are just as emotionally affected as the “victims” of that tragedy when they are honest with themselves.

On a spiritual level, the thing to remember is that each person’s higher self made a decision to take that role in an event. Some chose to do a thing. Some chose to have a thing done to them. And some chose to be witnesses. Each being has an opportunity for growth in that moment. There is a gift in each position, and each of us will have the opportunity to take each position in that triad at some point. Each position is a blessed one. Each has the same opportunity for growth.

Pay attention today to which of these positions you take throughout the day. When do you act upon someone else, and what do you have the opportunity to learn in that moment? When are you acted upon, and what do you have the opportunity to learn in that moment? When are you a witness to events, and what do you have the opportunity to learn from those events?

When your day is finished, before bed, you might want to take a moment to record your observations and see if any additional insight develops from the journaling.
