Not only was Miami Gil de Ferran’s home town, Bruce McLaren’s first F1 win came in Florida.

McLaren wanted this particular win badly!

maybe i'm too indycar-pilled but jeez it's still bugging me that the sky comms during testing were trying to wax eloquent in paying tribute to gil de ferran and were able to recall his british f3 title and just said 'he had lots of success in america'...cmon. why did nobody do some basic research. his success in america included:

rookie of the year

back to back championships

the indy 500

and i don't expect them all to be able to rattle off all of these but recalling his junior career and hand-waving the rest of it is...somewhat less than respectful, maybe?

i love his fluro and black helmet but icl that tribute helmet looks sick the way it matches the suit and livery

it's yet another piece of attention to detail from the boy because he's matched to the livery the way Gil did too

mostly white helmet, black stripe with orange (and ofc Gil de Ferran on the side)

but this was Gil - man also matched with the livery of his car

landonorris We lost someone really special to us at the end of last year, he was a dear friend of mine and he'd been with me pretty much since I came into Formula 1. Someone who I not only had many laughs and great times with, but someone who helped me out on and off the track whenever I needed it.

This is the design he won the Indy 500 with, and I'll be wearing it today as my little way to say thank you for everything and to let him know we're thinking of him and he's still very much part of McLaren. I hope you like it. This one is for you Gil ❤️
