Gideon Nisi Schlemiel, or the "Anti-Mordecai". (All art by @thisisanerror )

A bookish and reserved man, Gideon doesn't dislike talking to people, but he certainly struggles with it. He's anxious, easily flustered and prone to nervous sweats. But he's a very kind man with an affinity for math and botanicals.

Gideon has a few... Struggles in everyday life, ones his mother tries to assist with, but generally pushes too hard on. He has a high reliance on routine and order. He suffers from texture and taste sensitivities (he hates crunchy things, sour things and spicy things) and prefers baggy clothes due to intense tactile sensitivities, also avoiding uncomfortably tight or clingy fabrics altogether.

Despite Gideon's difficulties, he has a strong advocate in his sister, Esther. A no-nonsense and feisty personality, Esther will mercilessly tease her brother - it is her right, as his little sister, she says - but should anyone else mess with Gideon, heads will roll in short order. Even mother is not safe from her wrath when it comes to protecting Gideon's gentle nature.

With Gideon's differences compared to his canon counterpart, his family life is also quite different. His mother finds Gideon to be too soft; she and Isaac often argue regarding nature versus nurture in regard to his eccentricities, as well as Esther's near indomitable spirit. These arguments never resolve and soon after Mordecai turns eleven, they part ways, with Esther and Gideon ending up with their father in St Louis.

Isaac ends up as bookkeeper for the Little Daisy, getting his children jobs in the cafe when they're old enough. Once the Lackadaisy Speakeasy opens however, Esther is soon drawn into the underground world of bootlegging, torture, murder and everything in between. (Mostly torture - she had a lot of repressed anger about the divorce.)

Gideon is far more content to continue working the books or the cafe with his father until Isaac's health declines too far and he is forced to retire. It's then Gideon learns the true nature of the Little Daisy Cafe - as well as the existence of Lackadaisy in the caves below - and he...

Well, he freaks out a little.

Good thing Esther is there to slap some sense into him.

how do you use references when you draw fanart or figure out how to draw irl characters?? it's just that i've been looking through your art and i feel like you ability to capture a character's idk essence, in vibes + appearence, are just unmatched! they're all so dynamic and like them i just <33

aaa thanks so much!! im glad to hear that since i honestly dont watch a ton of live action? i generally have done a lot more fanart for animated things so thats nice to hear haha anyways though!! i have far too many words that may or may not make sense to say so i'll put how i use references and figure out live action characters below

the main rule i like to keep in my head is that i am drawing the character, not the actor, if that makes sense?

this is all taking arthur as an example, to show what kinds of things i look for!! if i were talking about merlin any other live action character like. bobby briggs or something all the details would be super different haha a way i like to familiarize myself with a live action character at first is tracing which i must preface by saying TRACING ISNT BAD!! its a tool and it just needs to be used correctly. tracing is a great way to figure out a method to drawing things, so its really valuable in studying. im not gonna address using tracing in finished artwork rn bc thats where it gets a little dicey and i would talk about it too much.

i dont really need to do this for arthur anymore but it was a fun exercise lmao

sorry the images are so crunchy i always forget i work on small canvases, anyways in capturing a likeness i like to emphasize and exaggerate a little which features make the character most recognizable to me.

he's got a sharp nose which is bumped at the bridge and a little bit upturned at the bottom. when he's smiling his eyes crinkle a lot and his cheek muscle becomes more pronounced and connects into the corner of his mouth

very square jaw. his brows are thicker near the center and don't have much of an arch. his cheeks are hollowed with neutral expression and the muscles on the sides of his mouth (depressor anguli oris, if i remember correctly lol) are obvious when the corners of his mouth are downturned

the corners of his mouth fold in a lot when he bares his teeth if hes angry or agitated, its a different type of fold when hes relaxed or smiling

his masseter is rather pronounced when he's talking or agitated, and i usually connect the line of it to the line that goes down from the inner corner of his eye. i forget what the word for it is rn but its different from eyebags (though i do like to draw eyebags)

but none of these details work if whatever hes doing in the drawing isnt in character, yknow? like he could look like arthur but he wouldnt really feel like arthur if hes not acting like arthur. idk it s hard for me to put to words im sure u get what i mean enough

body shape and language are also super important to think about, these are some things i keep in mind with arthur - hes shredded but not like marvel movie dehydrated shredded (good for him) - hes very broad and his shoulders slope down because of his trapezius muscles - he takes up a lot of space! he hardly ever curls up or sits with his feet up in his chair. even when hes sleeping hes pretty sprawled out - his "closed off" body language is crossing his arms or raising his left hand to twist his index finger ring with his thumb (worried/thinking gesture) - he moves with a lot of purpose usually and isnt often clumsy (unlike merlin lmao) - he moves his shoulders a lot when he walks (see top left image)

honestly think body language is just as important as facial features if not more, for the purpose of creating personality and character

i probably sound like i think way too much about this stuff which i. i kind of do but not in so many words i dont need this many words when its all in my brain. but yeah thats how i figure out how to draw a live action character i guess? anyways this was kind of a mess haha

Aah holy cow, this is one of the nicest asks I've ever gotten, thank you very much! I've been feeling lately like I still have a long way to go before my art will be at the level I want for it, so hearing this is really humbling and encouraging-- and I'll give you the same advice I've been trying to follow myself, which is that if you keep practicing and studying art that looks the way you want your art to look, you'll improve bit by bit and get there eventually.

As for brushes and programs-- I still primarily use photoshop (+ Wacom Intuos Pro tablet) for digital art, but that's just because I've used it for a very long time-- I'm aware of many other, just-as-good-if-not-better, most importantly free-er alternatives to Adobe products, and it might be only only a matter of time before I switch from photoshop to one of them.

As for brushes, I really love Kyle Webster's brush packs (now available for free download on the Adobe Cloud, since he works for them)-- his natural media brushes have awesome textures to them. I also like Shiyoon Kim's inking brushes-- they're super crunchy. But I also use just the default PS hard-edged round brush with variable opacity a lot.

I need yi sang to get more moments playing chess with sinclair and don I want him to get more moments goofing around with gregor and heathcliff He's gotta spend more time with ryoshu talking about poetry and art He is at his worst right now holding onto this belief that nothing matters and everything is worthless when some bad events happen in the future. It seems like he has been for so long (since Gubo or that other person had him around? the 'i'll look so you don't have to + just be quiet' bits?) but he also clearly still has moments of life he loves.

It sucks seeing his friends talk around him so much. I think its very intentional that yi sang doesn't seem to have a lot of dialogue in his focus story. He's been basically trained himself to repress everything and is probably very used to those friends talking over him and assuming his intentions as fuel for their arguments. This is not to say they aren't all friends and don't love each other but clearly the corps and stress of their separation has warped all of them.

The bit where dongbaek is explaining she was trying to kill him because it was what he wants and gregor stands up for him trying to argue you can't make that choice for someone else? That feels very indicative of what situation he's been repressing himself under for so long.

Hating life because he can only see it as fleeting moments of worthless effort before it's ruined by forces outside his control. Then whenever he could express himself he has others speak in his stead assuming things, correctly or incorrectly, and cutting him out of any personal connection to the situation.

It's awful feeling so disconnected from everything! Compounding that with the people trying to recruit him who seem to only want him for something he's created. That separation of the people he trusted and them possibly shifting to repress him in this way - even with good intentions - is so so crunchy.

I mainly assume he has stopped talking or doing as much because he doesn't believe its worth it? That living life is worthless because basically existing as a function to make the mirror and nothing else he does matters? because even his few friends are broken by the events of them splitting and assume things and control him instead of talking to him like a person?

I even feel bad trying to analyze him a bit cause ultimately I'm doing the same as others in the situation. Watching his actions and assuming what he's thinking without his input.

I would not be surprised if his sin ends up being shutting down back then and letting others control him. He has opportunities but by now he won't take them - either because it was useless before or he was too scared or depressed to.

It makes sense to me he is at his most talkative in ch1 sort of fresh after they were all bribed to join Limbus Company with granting their greatest wishes. Despite hating life he probably still wants something better and is actively trying to reach it.

He is still trying! He's somehow preserved through this state and is still living hoping for something to change! I think he still deep down does want to live!

I think yi sang is a very quiet but strong character and if the dungeon is good it's going to ruin me!!

I want to see him grow more comfortable with others and take opportunities like the others give him to learn to express himself again. Regrow his sense of self and get to a place where he enjoys life more and less moments are written off as worthless!

Absolutely amazing linework and generally incredible vibes. They are drawing a webcomic called CHOKEPOINT i have been meaning to check out but I adore their art just in general. I've been using a lot of their art as inspo lately and can't get enough of their cyberpunk designs, horror vibes, and use of pops of colour to emphasise and showcase their incredibly in depth line work and details!

I continue to come back to their art and they are also a huge inspo for me. I'm generally trying to find a way to adapt their colouring into my own style because it's absolutely gorgeous! Do you like Mecha? Do you like guns? Do you like cute girls and/or boys!? Well, hot shit, me too!!! You NEED to check out Tyto_Alba! Straight up, another one of my top 3. He has legitimately changed the way I do my lineart, the way i draw soft shapes (like butts and stuff :3c) and my god the mechs as well! I legitimately had a hard time finding a good singular piece of their art to use here cos they are so fantastic at both sexy art AND mechs that i really had to find something that showed off a little of both! Something that I personally have noticed with their art as well is just how fuckin incredible they are at drawing HANDS! I am obssessed with their skill with hands and I hope to match up to them some day in that regard! I feel like I'm getting there but I LOVE the way theyre always so Shaped and well posed. As well as how detailed they manage to be without being too attention grabbing unless intentionally in the focus! What's more, they use simple colours so effectively! Much to be loved here! And of course, their NSFW content is top tier! Really excellent soft shapes and squish and really fantastic context and intensity!

RizDraws (NSFW)

Listen... LISTEN OKAY!!! We're hitting the NSFW exclusive part of the list and you have to understand that NSFW artists are just as incredibly skilled as any other artist and that porn is FINE AND NORMAL! Having sexual interest is not unusual. Having a desire to draw these things is a human and regular thing. I could talk for paragraphs about how puritanism is harmful and ultimately denying something natural and inherently human and anyone telling you otherwise has ulterior motives. But that's not what this post is about. I say this because an artist showcase tends beat around the bush with this stuff but I am unwilling to be vague about this. NSFW art is valid and, what's more, Important! That being said, Riz is incredible! The squish! The faces! The fluids! The Dicks! All so good! They somehow straddle the line between pinups and porn in such a brilliant way that I would be happy to have their art on my wall and I'm not kidding haha! The particular way they colour with the chalky texture is often sought after and I see why! Personally I don't look to emulate it myself but I most certainly enjoy looking at it! The way Riz uses their lines and their particular style of chalky colour to make the squish of clothes against flesh really look real! It's somethin else!

Andava (NSFW)

Now where Riz does the mid point between pinups and porn, Andava is definitively porn haha! xD That being said. Hot damn dude! In particular the way they do bodies and have a variety in body types, shapes of boobs and faces. Especially faces. Their characters are really good too and it's very easy to develop a favourite (for me it's Erika and Alexis) There's a reason people have cosplayed their characters and it shows! Absolutely love the variety, the situations/positions they draw! Theyre incredible as making stuff feel messy as well! Highly recommend browsing through their stuff and finding a favourite OC of theirs haha! I was lucky enough to get a commission off them years ago when they were still fairly small in terms of following. So long ago that Tumblr still allowed porn at the time haha! I dont think Discord even existed yet! Still wanna grab a commission off Andava of the same character one day! ALRIGHT I think I will leave it there for now! I could absolutely go longer and talk about even more of my fave artists and why I like them, and how they've inspired me but I get the feeling I should hold off haha (unless of course people would like to see more) I hope this has thoroughly answered your question. While I work on some art for Flawed. Here are his older designs and original story ideas.

Here was the very first design of Flawed Cookie.

I designed him after Fake Peppino, if you can't tell from the traits alone, while designing a way to make a horror cookie run character I thought of mimicry, mimicking one of the most adventurous and brave cookie out there. Of course I'm talking about GinderBrave what else I be talking about?

The Original idea for his story was that he was created by none other than the Witch herself as a way to track down and eat these cookies, Flawed started off as a gooey jelly substance with two eyeballs. However the (blobby state) Flawed Cookie attacked the Witch leading to her death by suffocation.

After digesting her entire body, the Flawed grew bigger and started wreaking havoc on Earth bread before being stuck down by Dark Cacao Cookie

After being defeated by the King, Flawed fled from the scene. And he was never seen again until many moons pass, regained a distinct cookie form by just eating other cookies.. Mimics GinderBrave as a way to try to replace him.

While his burning hreated for Dark Cacao Cookie was still held on in his current design now, I feel like the story was cliche and overwhelmingly bad. And Flawed Cookies first design wasent all that creepy enough so I took brainstorming again and redo his design all over to make him more like..

With the design fully redone, this was Flawed Cookies most distinct design yet, you can even see resemblance passed onto his current design.

I went for the more analog horror vibe for Flawed, make him more menacing and dreadful.. And also I made two of his art, being a reference from Mandela Catalogue.

Everything.. Was a delicious course to him, nothing else. Even not hesitate to convince his fellow watchers to be just like Him... Most follow.. But others had other opinions.

When the King talked him down about his so call.. Obsession, it was enough for him to rebel against the Cacao Kingdom.

When the King and Him faced, it was a fearce battle, but He couldn't stand a chance against the King.. No.. And before that after the dust had settled..

Glory be to the masterful genetics that sculpted such a work of art right out of Armitage’s dreams. 

The man was gorgeous. His strength was obvious from the definition of his arms and the sturdy shape of his chest. Armitage couldn’t see his legs under the many layers of his Renaissance Faire costume, but he would bet those thighs were huge. 

He was perfect. Armitage wanted to tangle his fingers in that loose, long hair and bury his face in that wide, firm chest and grip his knees around those thick hips and—

Armitage didn't notice he'd been drifting closer until the man locked eyes with him. Deep, glittery, dark eyes.

"Would you like to try my nuts?” 

Armitage answered before he thought through what an odd question that was. His voice was even a little dreamy and soft. “Absolutely.” 

The man's smile lit up bright enough to drown out the glaring sun. He only looked away from Armitage for a bare second before he handed him… 

A sample size cup of roasted nuts. Almonds, to be exact.

"Oh."

The man's tone was painfully amused when he ventured, "Were you expecting something else?"

Stars in Heaven, he was. Snapped back to reality by the literal nuts in his hand, Armitage reconsidered every life choice that brought him here. This was the Ren Faire. He was standing in front of a nut booth. He was an idiot. 

Armitage stared down at the little cup of nuts and replied, "In hindsight, no."

The man chuckled, and it was a pleasant enough sound that Armitage found he didn't mind being laughed at too much. He gestured encouragingly at the nuts and said, "Go on. Try them."

Well. Despite wishing for the universe to grant him an undo button, Armitage was still there. So he might as well taste the man's nuts. 

Armitage tipped back his head and poured the nuts into his mouth like a shot. They were perfectly salted and crave-ably sweet, with a wonderful crunchy texture, warm on his tongue. With his mouth still full, Armitage admitted, "Wow. These are actually delicious."

The man grinned and waggled his eyebrows suggestively. With practiced ease and, incredibly, without laughing, he said, "For five dollars, you can put as much in your mouth as you want."

Armitage hesitated for a moment, feeling his face warm as he wondered. Did he really want that many nuts?... Did he even like nuts that much? 

But then he went for his wallet. "Only because you said it like that."

The nut man laughed in delight and set aside his tray of samples to prepare a proper serving for Armitage. "It’s a good line, right?"

"I'm not sure I would go that far," Armitage said, watching the man's muscular arms move through the process of preparing a waxed paper cone and pouring warm, freshly roasted nuts into it until it was nearly overflowing. This man could do nothing but flip switches all day and Armitage would love to watch.

The man eyed Armitage as he held the cone of nuts out for him to take. "Tough crowd."

Armitage raised his chin defiantly. "High standards."

"High maintenance, too, I bet," the man challenged. 

Armitage hummed noncommittally and teased, careful to keep all hope out of his voice, "Maybe you'll find out."

Interest took over the man’s expression, which made the utterly random question he asked all the more jarring for Armitage. "Do you have a ye olde mechanical carrier pigeon?"

Armitage stared at him, wondering what inside joke he must be missing, when he suddenly realized, "A mobile. You mean a mobile."

"Yeah," he said, as if he hadn’t just dropped a riddle in Armitage’s lap. "I'll give you my number. I'd ask for yours but I am contractually forbidden from taking out my ye olde mechanical carrier pigeon and I don't think you want it written on my arm for any passers by to see."

"That would be correct,” Armitage confirmed. He was still feeling foolish for how long it had taken him to decode the indirect term, but tried to play it like he was just unimpressed. He hoped it was working. “Besides, you might sweat it off. Roasting nuts is hot business, isn't it?"

The man grinned as if Armitage wasn’t talking about the heat coming from the roasting pan in the booth. "You bet. Ready?"

Armitage looked down at the number pad on his phone. "I'll need your name, of course."

“Kylo,” he offered freely, then tilted his head forward in interest. “And yours?”

Armitage raised a brow at him. Give up his position of power so soon? Hardly. “The number?”

Kylo huffed a bit of a laugh, but obediently gave Armitage his information. Good boy. If he kept that up, Armitage might give him a treat. Armitage would love to give him a treat. 

A chime sounded from somewhere deep in the confines of Kylo’s costume. Armitage smiled as the realization dawned over Kylo’s face that Armitage had sent a text… and Kylo wouldn’t be able to read it for hours.

Kylo’s face definitely read more amused than tortured, but it was certainly a mix of both. “That’s rough.”

Armitage shrugged one shoulder, then spotted Phasma waving to him from several booths over. Time to go, then. Armitage was going to miss him, but it would be a cold day in hell before Armitage let Kylo know that. “You’ll live,” he said simply, turning away and popping one little almond between his lips as he did.

“Are you sticking around ‘till the end of the day?” Kylo called after him. The eagerness of his tone set Armitage’s insides alight. 

“I might,” Armitage said over his shoulder. “You know, if there’s anything interesting still around.”

Kylo, hilariously, held up his wares in invitation. “There’ll always be nuts!”

“And we both know I find those very interesting,” Armitage played along. He waved as he finally left earshot. “See you around!”

Kylo shouted something back, but it was lost amidst the ambient noise of the fair. It didn’t look like a goodbye, though.

Kylo’s feet were sore as hell and one of the straps on his pants was chafing like a motherfucker. He could have sat for his break at the back of the nut booth and actually taken a rest.

But then he wouldn’t be able to check his phone. 

Kylo wove through the crowd to the back of a long bank of food stalls, then ducked through the split in a wall of hanging canvas to reach a staging area thoroughly hidden from view. It was the nearest place where staff were allowed to freely scroll through their phones.

Only one message was waiting for him, but it was totally worth blowing his break on this.

Honestly since I've answered the brush question before, I'm going to link you to my previous answer which goes more in depth, but in short its simply a noise textured airbush which I use in most of my art! However I did do something a little differently this time, which was actually that I started in monochrome and used a gradient map to add color to the image. Otherwise tho I didn't really do anything special like extra effects or anything, it was a pretty direct painting process.

what they smell like: probably a lot and not very good because pre-modern people didn't obsess about removing body odor and also really liked incense/perfume/etc, and also he's a dude and dude-smell is not good (to me. because i am a lesbian. if that's your thing, fine, but i am not a fan). less a lot than most because i feel like Lans probably wash better and more often but still.

an otp: Jin Guangyao!

a notp: I'm not like... against other ships here, even if I don't enjoy them... I think Jiang Cheng, because it clogs tags, I don't get it, and its execution is always very unpleasant for me. But more than that anything that pairs Lan Xichen with a woman because imo he is like. Gay gay. Like. Knows that people are straight but like... can't really understand that they... enjoy that? They're probably straight because they want kids so they do what must be done, right? Yeah.

favorite platonic/familial relationships: I love him and Wangji's relationship, especially exploring how it devolves post-canon, but I also really really like the dynamic between him and Lan Qiren in cql. Very crunchy. Like. Lan Qiren clearly cares deeply about him but mostly expresses that by holding him to high standards and shaping him for his role. And he shows his affection for Lan Qiren by striving to live up to his expectations, but also runs interference for his brother. And then like. When Lan Qiren sends him away because he is the one who is too important, and it's the most crushing thing his uncle could have done, and the way that sets up this pattern of him being the one everyone decides must survive, whether he wants to or not. Yeah. Good stuff.

a headcanon that is popular in the fandom but that i disagree with: Centrist himbo Lan Xichen my beloathed. Also the like "too nice, too trusting, weak and effeminate" (mis)characterization.

the position they sleep in: flat on his back like a good Lan but. Also. He has secretly and sneakily mastered the art of sleeping while sitting so it looks like he's meditating. (I hc that the Lan sleep schedule doesn't really match his body's natural rhythm so he's often a little tired so. Stealth-nap).

4 was going to have a much villain arc vibe in the beginning, but I decide it to change because it didn't seem right, even tho I enjoy making those kinds of expressions (My friend added that they looked like a gremlin xD). I divided to go with a more neutral look because they don't really know what their going into, it's like, running with your eyes close with the hopes that someone will catch you

I've been wondering, what's your favorite Sol? In all the Guilty Gear art, I mean. Or even just in general? Gorilla vs Gibbon, so to speak. I really like the picture of Frederick, Aria, and Asuka hanging out, although it always really reminded me of the artist of Bleach's (Tite Kubo) art style.

I really, really, like this Sol that Hiroaki did. It's not on the wiki gallery, but IIRC it was some kind of promotional/countdown illustration for XX? I like it because he's still super jacked but his overall proportions and general anatomy are surprisingly realistically rendered. Hiroaki didn't shrinkwrap his muscles so they were super crazy defined like how artists generally depict Sol. There are real life body builders with proportions more inhuman than how Sol looks here haha (also the lighting and mood in this illustration are super cool. it's like he's standing in the middle of an inferno or something)

It's hard to see without zooming way in on it, but his expression in that illustration is interesting too. He looks pissed but instead of it being his usual "about to go apeshit" pissed, it's more like a "oh, now you've done it" slow, simmering, pissed. Which you don't see in official art of Sol very often. (sorry this is crunchy, the only file online of this is really small)
