okay! I finished the base chain part of the corset! I might add more going in different directions, hanging, etc. when I add gears (the plan is to do that tomorrow), but the base is done!
#project update#poll dress#steampunk orange#lmao I put on the corset (for progress photos) and instantly was like#woah. I have boobs.#so that'll be something to be aware of when I do the photoshoot lmao#My brand of gender involves fluctuating levels of dysphoria#not a bad thing per se#just something to keep in mind!#I might try on the corset with a binder at some point just to see how it looks#good things for problem solving!

it's cool if I ramble about yes man unprompted right. ofc it is. i wanna talk about his capacity for violence bc I think it's one of the most interesting parts of his character
yes man is nice. obviously he's nice. but yes man is not a kind character. he helps you, sure, but that's mostly just because he likes you specifically (and even that's debatable depending on how you play). i feel like this is exemplified w his pre-combat lines– "a pulled trigger's a happy trigger!" and "woo! bang bang!" like, he's clearly having fun! he takes glee in killing people, but not because he's sadistic, but because he just doesn't realize the weight of taking a life- or if he does, it just doesn't matter to him.
he was programmed without a sense of morality or an understanding of mortality. to him, violence is second nature. to him, violence is no different from play. he's like a guard dog– he doesn't care who he's shooting or why, he's just excited to do the thing he's good at.
and on one hand, he is a fantastic guard dog. but on the other hand, six must watch how... efficiently he kills, and wonder if they'll ever wind up on the receiving end of it. he wouldn't do it as long as he likes six, of course, but... if yes man was given good enough reason to believe six deserved to die, would he even hesitate? would their history and relationship mean anything to him? or would six just be another target, forgotten about as quickly as a radroach you stepped on?
six can only hope they never need to find out.
#juno.txt#fnv#fallout#fallout new vegas#yes man#ym#courier six#six#also on a more selfship level. part of what yes man likes about six is their ability to be violent despite being so small and fragile#i think on some level his eagerness to kill in their name is him trying to impress them#but ofc when courier 'no problem that can't be solved with words' six finds out abt that they dont take it well#this is all during the game's events ofc. by the end of the game ym comes to understand six's ideology better#and despite being a literal murder machine begins to believe maybe he has it in him to be gentle too#plus the assertiveness upgrade kinda prevents the whole 'what if someone comvinces him to kill me' thing#but like. post game ym can be whatever you want him to be i like analyzing the flawed mid game one#no moral backbone means you can't exactly call ym a bad person but you certainly cant call him a good person#six spends a lot of their early relationship a little scared of and a lot distrustful of yes man bc they genuinely cant tell-#what's going on in his head or if anything he says is the truth#anyway not to ramble even more in the tags lol

I simply think this fandom doesn't give Wei Wuxian enough credit for the various ways in which he saved Lan Wangji
#mdzs#mo dao zu shi#wangxian#idk man- i just see a lot of “Lan Wangji has always been protecting Wei Wuxian” posts and its like...#I mean... Lan Wangji has always certainly been trying to protect Wei Wuxian#it took him a long time to figure how to successfully do that though#rereading the books rn and noticing theres a lot of instances that could be read as lwj being frustrated over his inability to protect wwx#like he seemed ready to cry when wwx went missing for a while and then came back with the cursed leg#lwj has always been great at protecting wwx from physical threats (ex: waterborn abyss) but had no idea how to protect him from himself#meanwhile wwx has always been instictually good at saving lwj from both#like I'm 100% lwj would've become like Jiang Cheng if wwx hadn't snapped him out of the blindly following authority thing#and also like... 15 y/o lwj wasnt happy with his life. he was lonely and stressed and literally signing up to be flogged whenever he goofed#wwx is who allowed lwj to grow up by showing him what it was like to actually be a kid (shown in story whenever lwj gets drunk)#he led lwj to having a more flexible mindset. and it both let lwj relax and set lwj up to be a better parent#looking into lwj's dynamic with the juniors- he lets them break a fuck ton of the petty rules and encourages them to question authority#he also teaches them to not be married to any one meathod of problem solving#wwx is also able to save lwj from his own stubbornness#ex: carrying lwj when he broke his leg. getting lwj to cough up bad blood. getting lwj to keep the rabbits#wwx also tends to give lwj the words he has trouble saying himself. helps him communicate#wwx also protects lwj in fights a lot but thats narratively less important#except the various times wwx puts himself in danger to help lwj. those times are what made it so lwj could never move on from wwx#like with the cave incident#or when wwx helped surpress the arm instead of using the chaos to escape cloud recesses#tldr i guess: i think this fandom tends to treat lwj being the best like its natural to him when really wwx accidentaly rewired his brain#I'm looking directly at fanfic writers who act like the Lans would've treated wwx better than the Jiangs#lwj had to do so much work and self reflection post meeting wwx to be the way he is. he is not the sole product of the Lan teachings

What does the yotici life cycle look like now?
Fairly similar, here's a generalized idea
I Did kind of drop the sessile+asexual polyp mobile+sexual fish alternating generations because it doesn't Really change anything besides sounding vaguely interesting. Fish reproduction is wild enough as-is.
Their eggs are laid in a stringy mass that requires a root to the sea floor (coral, tough kelps, rocks, sticks, etc) and light currents to keep them oxygenated. These egg masses are strong and can bend and sway fairly significantly without coming apart, but will be broken by strong currents and require a sheltered environment to survive. This is the basis of a Garden, an engineered ecosystem designed to protect the eggs, provide substantial and consistent nourishment for the young and resting places and shelter for adults, and additionally function as cultural and social centers.
Larvae are tiny and born with a yolk sac attached to sustain them. They metamorphose into a 'predatory' phase in which they feed on zooplankton and organic debris. These phases are tiny and poor swimmers, wholly reliant on the sheltered environment of the garden for safety and consistent food sources. Those swept out have very little chance of longterm survival. The VAST majority of yotici that hatch at all die in their larval stages.
Most of their anatomy is fully developed as a 'yotling', in which they are much stronger swimmers, school together, and are primarily predatory. Yotlings feed on plankton and other small animals, but their most important food source is their own species' eggs. This is a natural behavior for yotici, and much of the function of the garden is to provide this dependable, clustered food source for their young. The survival benefits of most of their reproductive output being sacrificed to these viable young with a fairly strong chance of survival vastly outweigh the loss, given the vast majority of yotici larvae who hatch to begin with die without ever reaching this phase. Yotlings have much lower mortality rates than the larvae, but a majority will die to predation. They're also frequent bycatch in fisheries and are widely eaten by landdwelling peoples. During the yotling phase, they're about 4-8 inches long.
Their beak starts to develop in the juvenile stage, during which they are 'weaned' out of predatory behavior and start consuming algae and marine plants. They instinctively school around adult yotici and follow them to food sources, usually eating algae that grows around the tougher foods the adults can handle. This tends to be the point in which active parental protection begins, but few yotici cultures conceptualize these juveniles as full people or develop personalized bonds with them, as their mortality rate is still fairly high. During the juvenile phase, they're about 8-14 inches long.
A yotici 'child' has all its base adult anatomy developed, including its tentacles, and looks like a miniature adult. They can eat tougher foods and join the adults in consuming seagrass. This is the point in which they are semi-equivalent to a human infant, rapidly learning and picking up on language and beginning to communicate. Fully active parental care and bonding will occur during this period (the Exact cultural marker of when this starts can vary) and they are conceptualized as people. Diminishingly few yotici actually survive to this phase, but those who do have a very good chance of lasting to adulthood. The child phase starts at about 1-2 ft in length.
At this point they grow steadily until sexual maturity, and will continue to grow (much, much more slowly) throughout the rest of their lives. Sexual maturity takes a VERY long time, usually about 20 years from hatching. An adult yotici generally ranges in size from 12-18 ft, with outstanding or very long lived individuals passing 25 (the World Record would be in the mid 30 ft range). A yotici who survives to reproductive adulthood has excellent chances at a long life, and yotici are by far the longest living sophonts. A lucky individual can crest 200 years.
#Should note that when I make changes for realism it's not because I think worldbuilding should be hyper realistic to be good but because#like. It's fun for me. I like having to think about these things and having to learn and problem solve to conform to Mostly hard#realism. I only drop things when they're not fun for me and/or I like another option better.#And I let a lot of other things be fully unrealistic with like. A little grounding when adjusting for realism would Not be fun for me#Like the three moons is not even slightly realistic (in that it has like no effects whatsoever on this world which is 99.999% earthlike)#but I like it and think it's fun to have the wrinkle of Three Moons and think about how that could affect cultural interpretations of the#moon so I keep it#etc#yotici

it's like, i really do enjoy most of the bats as characters and i really do like a lot of their comics. but also i am sooooo tired of them being hailed as better than literally everyone else. both in fanon but also in comics (modern ones are esp egregious imo, like WHAT was that shit about batman and the joker being the most dangerous men on the planet. hi. have you heard of lanterns? speedsters? supers? actually if i keep listing groups who could kick batman's ass we'd be here all day). they're like kudzu. that shit needs to stay in its native environment (funky little neo-noir detective stories) and stop being an invasive species (putting down everyone else to make them seem cooler). put bruce wayne back into a murder mystery setting that isn't about saving the world but is about saving one person or one family that no one else would've saved right now or so help me god. the whole invasive species cross contamination thing is unhealthy for both him And the other ecosystems he keeps getting transplanted into. please. it's so dark in here
#rimi talks#imo it's also like a massive escalation problem like Everything has to be huge immense world ending bullshit plots#rather than ''i am going to solve a local mystery to help local people'' things. which are important also#um. points at action comics 792. you see like superman does here? caring about one person who someone thought wouldn't matter to anyone?#sorry im just going to go on a superman tangent but ac791 and 792 both absolutely gutted me and everyone should read them#both are pretty standalone and both ruined me#one is about something tragic that happened when clark was in high school#and just wanted to try and help a girl everyone was bullying for being fat. and they became friends and had a good time at a dance together#and then the second one is about him noticing the chatty guy who runs the newspaper stand where he stops sometimes is missing#and then just stopping at nothing to try and find him. even though he's someone he barely knew outside of being a regular at his stand#and it just really got me. my god. more of that pleaseeeeeee 😭😭😭😭💕💕💕💕

adsfkj i have dusted off the cql folder on my computer for the first time since 2021 and i just found a bunch of fic snippets so short i can't even tell what they were supposed to be about. except this one in which i apparently had the lan sect invent hash functions, all so that there could be a dramatic reveal that jiang cheng had never removed wei wuxian from the yunmeng jiang sect records??
Wei Wuxian sighed and slumped back on his heels. It wasn't that he was incapable of being patient, he just didn't want to. Here was an array that could tell a sect if a prospective initiate was currently on another sect's rolls, without actually giving any sect access to the records of another sect. How was it doing that? The applications for this technology were potentially enormous. Wei Wuxian couldn't wait to get his grubby little hands all over the design.
there's also a more extended passage from a different "wei wuxian finds out he's still a member of ymj" concept (feat. jin ling!) which includes the paragraph
"He can't join the Lan sect!" Jin Ling was exclaiming. "He's already in a sect, technically, and you can only be on the official roster for one sect at a time. I should know, my elders have only been hounding me about it since before I could even say the words 'conflict of interest.'"
but the rest of them are just single sentence one-offs like
'Hey‚' Wei Wuxian protests weakly. 'It’s not my fault. I’ve been dead for quite some time.'
and
After customer service‚ there isn’t much an unearthly shriek can do to phase a person.
and then there's this sentence fragment:
The leader of the Jiang Sect‚ who looks like a Sect Leader‚ is dressed like a Sect Leader‚ and‚ most importantly‚ is not stuck in a hole like an idiot‚ therefore behaving with the dignity of a Sect Leader‚
dying to know where i was going with this. and who was the narrator? whoever it is, they are definitely comparing someone unfavorably to jiang cheng. some idiot has fallen in a hole and jiang cheng comes along and the narrator is like now that's what i'm talking about. maybe the narrator is the idiot in question? maybe wei wuxian is the idiot. but then i don't know why i would have been leaning on the sect leader thing since wei wuxian is not a sect leader. 2021 was a long time ago apparently because i have no memory of this.
#i have finally gotten back to the cql rewatch i abandoned in ... [small voice] 2020#i had gotten up to episode 27. first i had to reread my notes on the first 27 episodes which took 2.5 hours#but now i've moved on to actually watching episodes! very exciting time for me#it's fine. let him sit <-lwj line in ep 29 that still makes me crazayyyyyy#wen qing giving back the fucking comb and then both of them having insomnia about it#jc's dramatic cape toss after the fake duel#good good good times#who wants to rewatch cql with meeeeee. starting with episode 30 of 50#you don't need to rewatch 1-29 first. if you have 2.5 hours i'll send you my notes. problem solved!#the untamed#my posts#the reason my rewatch stalled was because it takes twice the length of the episode's runtime to watch the episode#when you're pausing every few seconds to write things down and look things up#which is what i am doing#however 27 is more than halfway through so hopefully i will be able to keep up the momentum long enough to finish the last 23#and then the world is my oyster#i will probably rewatch the earlier episodes but in a normaler way because the notes are already done#this is the theory anyway.

If yu ziyuan had been a character in a different story set when she was younger I'd be on here making posts about her like "she would NOT fucking have kids" because genuinely the worst thing you could do to that woman was make her a mother. Except in the story she's in she is a mother. And that's what's wrong with her.
#mdzs#yu ziyuan#deeply cruel. never seen a woman who should NOT have had kids this badly.#like the jiang parents marriage specifically has a lot of problems and divorce being a good option in universe would have solved many thing#but yzy should not have had kids with ANYONE.#very thankful for the existence of the jiang siblings but unfortunately in a better world they would not have been born#sorry kiddos unfortunately you're stuck in a thought experiment about the non-identity problem

Every now and then I just have to have a little breakdown about that Living Force novel making Sifo-Dyas a Seeker. Not just "aww the guy routinely devastated by visions of the apocalypse also takes care of little baby Force users in his other time, that's so nice for him on a wet cat level" but the way it's such an interesting example of him using his powers practically.
Of course he's a Seeker. He can see kids' futures, and intervene in a very simple, early way. It must be so psychologically satisfying for this person who spends his whole life trying to come up with these massive scale cosmic fix-its.
#yeah I'm thinking about this cause of the horrible thing I'm writing#it's also interesting to me that Sifo-Dyas seems to have been such a genuine believer in the good of the Jedi Order#while being a pretty antiestablishment Jedi who was willing to go against the Council as hard as he did#he and Dooku both looking to essentially solve the same problem#he made a shield and Dooku picked sword#sifo dyas

“The man is a public danger. There are lonely houses scattered over the moor, and he is a fellow who would stick at nothing.”
[…]
“I assure you, Sir Henry, that in a very few days the necessary arrangements will have been made and he will be on his way to South America.”
Reading it as a kid, I don’t think I gave it a second thought, but, uh… this seems kind of rough on South America.
#letters from watson#i guess i really was young when i read these the first time#i keep running across things which at the time i accepted as just. i dunno. the mysterious ways of the world#and now for example i get to the end of A Case Of Identity and go “…hold on. i’m not convinced that’s a good idea actually.”#or “wait a minute i don’t think shipping the spree killer to another continent will completely solve the problem”

I can't get over Janja viewing himself as this charming ballroom dancer when he's courting his prey... that's so funny?? why does he think like that.
Kion: The circle of life is about respecting other cultures and the lives we take when we play our role. Janja: Respect beautiful zebras?? I have no further questions.
He sees Cheezi and Chungu like this too. Yeah, they're his idiots, but he sees them as sweet and charming too.
I love when the hyenas go hunting and they are BFFs:
He luff zebra... Put zebra in hyena mouth for safety.
"Those stripes get me going~ <3" Okay buddy, rein it in...
#All I have come to realize about myself lately is that Janja and Bdubs are the same person (to me). I need them to eat things...#I can't believe this kids' show had like 7 onscreen deaths...#1 old age + 1 accident + 5 straight-up murders & multiple references to the main good guy cast eating prey. I'm into it#Bunga attempting to solve a problem by eating the person they came to save is my everything. what was that sir??#The Lion Guard#screenshots#Don't take this post seriously I know it's just a silly song and he's a villain. but also. why is he like that#I've been bingeing Lion Guard songs and this scene has been stuck in my head like a week. so now you get to share it with me

One group of One Piece OCs I haven't sold anyone on yet but am convinced is a good idea is this group of idiotic thug siblings who act as punch-clock mini-bosses for a very not actually developed villain. One's a disco-themed swordsman. The sister of the group can't handle compliments. I'm actively plotting how to make each of the little fights against the Straw Hats as Dumb as Possible.
#they all know their siblings are idiots but are convinced they're the smart one#they're all wrong they're stupid#I have this scene where the brothers are asked where their very aggressive brawl happy sister is#They glance around - at least one of them looks up#they love each other like crazy though - get very upset when their boss turns out to be the murder underlings type#pay's not THAT good#one piece#oc talk#the problem is I'm listening to Lucky Ducks from the Bob's Burger Movie while thinking about them#as you do#and here's the thing - they shouldn't get a little mini-story in which they try and solve a murder#that's not something that should happen#it's not even FUNNY yet- why am I laughing?

Moodboard for my fic ideas #1
Reader and Minho are both exchange students who struggle to fit in. Minho has a hard time with English, and reader is an introvert. They build a friendship and help each other out. Despite Minho’s parents wish to study abroad improving his English in hopes of getting into a top university one day, he secretly keeps practicing his one true passion - dancing. His biggest supporter? Reader.
"Do you ever dream of becoming like them?" I ask Minho, whose face was illuminated by the purple light of the BTS poster announcing their upcoming concert. He didn't even have to respond, i could see it in his eyes. This was his dream.
#stray kids#skz#lee know#he's super sweet and shy in this fic#but secretly he's super talented at dancing and reader doesn't even know how good he is until she runs into him at the dance studio#oh and reader takes him out to a korean restaurant when he says he misses korean food#basically she fell first but he fell harder type of thing#problem? i suck at writing i've been writing for years but do i improve? nah 0 faith in myself#it's not that he can't speak english it's more he lacks confidence and people tend to avoid him :( and same with reader so they bond cause#she wanna help out idk where reader is from if she's from the country he's exchanging in and what even is that country? obv it's not#realistic time wise with him being a trainee and bts and all that it's a fic okay#obv it could be reader x lee know if it's just a one shot or what it's called but for fic i would need to make an oc#no but seriously in the past i've written self indulgent stuff and original stuff and although i've improved on dialogue my thing is world#building and such#idk how to have character development or how to solve plot holes or make a plot even and solve issues#i'm very good at formulating what i wanna say in terms of talking about my struggles but fictional is surprisingly harder#fic ideas#my edit
