actually though a spin-off about a sixties talk-show host and his powerful wife who is obviously a member of some super old money WASP clan and also secretly a lesbian would be great television.

Hello, Sunshine, 1990
“My next guest is a terribly funny lady, and a loyal friend. Please welcome back to the Gordon Ford Show, making her triumphant return, Midge Maisel!”
The roar of the audience is almost deafening as Midge steps out, beaming as Gordon gets up, meeting her halfway for a big, tight hug.
When they pull apart, they smile at each other.
“You look good, Gordon,” she tells him.
He grins and tugs on her hair playfully. “So do you, rocking the gray.”
“Lenny likes it,” she says as they step up, both heading for his desk.
“Excuse you,” Gordon laughs.
“Yes?” Midge smirks.
“This is my desk!”
“Not tonight, it’s not,” Midge tells him, getting a good laugh.
There’s a ridiculous struggle for the chair which has Midge throwing a shoe at her former boss, and Gordon ducking for cover under the desk, the audience laughing hard through all of.
Eventually, they do wind up with Midge on the couch, slipping her high heel back on while Gordon hops out from under the desk and into his chair.
“Ten years away and nothing’s changed,” Gordon shakes his head, chuckling.
“Please, this is why we got paid the big bucks,” Midge waves a dismissive hand.
Gordon chuckles. “How are you, Midge?”
“I’m great!” she chirps. “Since I was last here, I now have five grandchildren, and I wrote a book, and I did a little stint in Vegas, and I stopped dying my hair.”
“You look wonderful,” Gordon tells her. “And the book is wonderful.”
“You just like it because I didn’t talk trash about you in it,” Midge teases.
“It was a bonus,” Gordon admits. “How’s Lenny?”
“Lenny is good! Lenny is taking some vacation time right now to relax and spend some time with our grandchildren,” Midge explains. “He did a really long two month tour at the beginning of the year and he came home ready to be a grandpa.”
Gordon. “I saw one of those engagements, he’s still sharp as ever. For a man who’s been doing stand-up as long as he has, it’s incredible how fresh he still is.”
Midge shrugs, smiling proudly. “He’s the best.”
“That he is,” Gordon agrees. “But you’re on the show tonight for a different reason.”
“I am!” Midge nods. “I’m here because I’m auctioning off ninety percent of my old wardrobe.”
Gordon gives a low whistle as the audience murmurs in surprise. “And how big is your wardrobe, Midge?”
She gives him a sheepish grin. “Iiiiiiit’s taking up an entire warehouse in New Jersey.”
The audience laughs in shock.
“That is so many dresses,” Gordon shakes his head. “What’s the auction for?”
Midge takes a breath. “it’s to benefit two causes: First, the Gaslight Cafe where I got my start, and so many other people did, too, is crumbling and needs major, major repairs, So part of the proceeds will go to fix it up back into it’s former glory as a hellhole that isn’t crumbling to the ground.”
The audience laughs.
“And secondly: one of my girls runs a nonprofit that helps people with addiction problems find the resources they need to receive treatment and support their families. She does really, really important work, and we could not be prouder.”
“That’s amazing stuff,” Gordon agrees, before turning to the audience. “Earlier this week, Midge took me on a tour of all those amazing dresses. Let’s take a look.”
Pre-taped segment:
Gordon follows Midge through the warehouse, shaking his head. “How the hell did you wind up with so much clothing?”
“I’m a woman.”
“You have a problem,” Gordon teases.
“Fine! So I might have a tiny issue,” Midge laughs as they walks through the racks of dresses. She pulls one out and swings it around to show him. “Remember this?”
Gordon laughs and looks at the powder blue number. “Your first night on the show.”
“Yup! It served me well that night.”
“You killed that night.”
Midge nods. “Damn right, I did.”
Gordon rummages through the racks and pulls out a light blue nightgown and a dusty pink coat. “Now, Midge...”
She laughs. “That’s what I was wearing the first time I set foot on the stage at the Gaslight! My first husband had left, and I was drunk out of my mind.”
“So it’s gonna fetch a pretty penny,” Gordon says, waving it for the camera. “You heard it here, folks. A piece of lacy comedy history.”
Midge chuckles and pulls another dress out; a pink number. “My first gig at the Apollo, opening for Shy Baldwin.” She puts it back and tugs another one out; a white dress with feathers at the bottom. “My very first Copa gig...”
Gordon pulls another dress out and inspects it. “Was this the Muppet show leisureliness?”
“Yep,” Midge beams. “That was such a blast. I got to hug Fozzie Bear!”
“I remember!”
Midge pulls another dress out and shows Gordon. “This was my first wedding dress. Technically one of my first stand-up acts, giving a speech at my own wedding for a captive audience. 1954 and in pristine condition.”
“Beautiful,” Gordon says, before turning around and placing a particularly ugly green hat on his head.
She laughs. “Fabulous, darling, just fabulous.”
“Why thank you,” Gordon grins. “You’ve lived quite the life so far, Midge. It’s unique that you can tell your life story in clothes.”
“I’m just glad I can donate them to a couple of good causes,” Midge shrugs with a grin. “You know? The Gaslight really feels like home in a lot of ways, and the non-profit my daughter Kitty runs does such important, compassionate work. If those resources had been around way back in the day, it could have changed a lot of lives, but I’m so relieved that they’re available now to help people.”
Gordon nods solemnly, still wearing that hat. “So am I.”
Midge cracks up laughing, and the studio audience joins her as the segment ends, and Gordon sits back at his desk in the studio, wearing that same hat.
“The auction takes place next month at Sotheby’s, we’ll be right back with the Marvelous, most wonderful Midge Maisel!”

TMMM 5x04 thoughts
SPOILERS UNDER HERE
I hated Gordon Ford before and I hate him even more now. He’s so slimy and is there honestly anyone rooting for him and Midge in a relationship? (Yes, if we’re to believe this writer.)
Zelda and her boyfriend are a cute little b-storyline, and the parts with the Abe and Rose and the play were so well done, especially that entirely silent bedroom/breakdown scene.
While I appreciate the technicality of them, I don’t like musicals, so the extended musical sequences were 🥴 for me; although I did think Rachel did a fantastic job with her “bad” acting because it must be so hard if you’re actually, you know, a really great actor. I hate Joel, you eww at him turning up and helping Midge, even if the bit with the kids was kinda cute.
I love that we’re getting a bit of Susie’s backstory with her previous relationship with Gordon’s wife, although I hate that they did that with her, which is just legitimising the idea of Gordon and Midge, which is 🤢. Alex gave such a great, subtitle performance though, so I can’t help but hope to see more of it despite the Gordon factor.

On second watch of Mrs. Maisel and Gordon Ford is such a tool! I can’t believe I didn’t see it fully the first time around. It’s like, he’s charming and handsome and can get away with being a POS, and it’s so obvious now. It’s such a huge reason why I like season 5 so much. Gordon is so real and like so many guys I’ve known in my life where you don’t realize just how awful they are until much later.

Okay, so I finally watched the latest episode of Mrs Maisel, and I have a quick question:
Who all here sees a similarity between Logan Huntzberger and Gordon Ford?
The fact that Gordon doesn't care that he's married (saying that it's an open marriage) and Logan being engaged but having an affair with Rory.
It just makes me wonder whether Gordon is one of Midge's failed marriages. That kind of comforts me that Logan too isn't Rory's endgame.

ASP definitely hired Reid Scott because she watched him throw fussy bitch fits as Dan Egan on Veep and thought to herself "i would like this man to throw fussy bitch fits in the fifties."
(I laughed out loud at RS's disbelieving delivery of "i'm sorry, the boat thing still happened?!")

A followup
Six months later, Gordon notices that Midge has changed out the rings she normally wears on stage. The old ones were nice; gold and unassuming.
The new ones are platinum, and the engagement ring has a tasteful but noticeable diamond.
“That’s an upgrade,” he comments. “Bored of the old ones?”
Midge just smiles as she heads into her office. “Something like that.”
*****
He’s mostly forgotten about Midge’s mystery boyfriend eight months later.
Sometimes he sees those same flowers. Sometimes she doesn’t get any. Midge is still Midge, thought sometimes she’s frustrated with jokes getting cut or the producers dragging them all in to chew them out for a particularly racy bit.
The nights when Midge has a set on the show sparkle. She charms guests and makes sure to highlight them in her bits and the audience eats her up.
Tonight’s guest is Lenny Bruce, and Midge works extra hard on her set, and the bits for this particular show, and Gordon gets it. The guy is bad boy comedy royalty, and a friend. She wants him to look good. To have a good show, and the guy could use it with the recent rounds of arrests.
It doesn’t hit Gordon until Lenny shows up at the studio to get ready.
Carrying flowers.
Pink.
Green.
Perfect.
The two men stare at each other for a long, long moment, and Lenny nods to him politely before heading towards Midge’s dressing room.
Gordon stands stock still for another long, long moment before scrambling to run in the other direction to try and get to Midge first, nearly mowing down Mike.
“Jesus, what is wrong with you this time?” Mike asks, bewildered.
“I KNOW WHO L IS!”
“Entertainers are so fucking strange.”
When Gordon gets to Midge’s door, it’s already closed, and he can hear laughter from inside. Hers, and a man’s.
He bangs on the door quickly. “I KNOW WHO L IS!”
He can hear Midge laughing harder from behind the door and Lenny Bruce’s muffled voice.
“Has your boss had a stroke?” Lenny asks.
“Considering what’s happening, he might have,” Midge responds before opening the door, grinning at him. “Hi, Gordon.”
“L,” Gordon says, before pointing at Lenny and repeating. “L.”
She nods in confirmation. “Yes. He is L.”
“Two of the best in the business,” Gordon tells her, completely bewildered. “Why the secrecy?”
“I already told you,” She reminds him.
“Special, yours, fine,” Gordon waves a hand, noticing that while he’s being dismissive, those words have clearly affected Lenny. The man’s expression softens as he looks at his shoes. “But you’d be a powerhouse as an entertainment couple!”
Midge shrugs, grinning at him. “Maybe. But for now: Special. Mine. So if you tell anyone, you will lose an eye to my stiletto.”
Gordon recoils a little. “Graphic.”
“Special. Mine,” she repeats.
“You keep saying that,” Gordon points out.
“I’m hoping it will sink in.”
Lenny chuckles softly, a hand to his mouth. “You know, as entertaining as all of this is, you have a show to prep for, and we were in the middle of a conversation.”
“Was it about having sex in this dressing room?” Gordon asks.
“Strangely no,” Midge laughs. “I’ll shoo Lenny out to hair and makeup shortly. I promise.”
“Okay, but what if-” Gordon starts, holding up a hand. “What if we announced you guys were a couple on the show tonight?”
“Bye, Gordon!” she cries, pushing him out and shutting the door.
Gordon huffs out a breath, shoulders slumped, and walks off.
*****
She closes the door and turns back to Lenny, shaking her head ruefully.
Lenny grins and wanders up to stand in front of her, settling his hands on her hips gently. “You know…maybe old Gordy’s got a point.”
Midge lifts a skeptical eyebrow. “Lenny…”
He shrugs, pulling her close, letting his nose brush against hers gently. “This is special. And I am yours, so says the very nice rings we’ve both been sporting and the state of New York. But…”
She grimaces. “But being publicly attached to someone with a steady gig on a successful show makes you look good in the face of all of the arrests?”
“I’m not proud of that line of thinking,” he admits quietly. ‘Using this…us…for that kind of gain.”
“But it would help.” Midge nods, determined. “And it’s clear Gordon isn’t upset that we’re together, and Mike has always said he doesn’t care who anybody fucks as long as we keep showing up to work every day sober enough to churn out jokes.”
“Charmer, that Mike.”
“Just a big teddy bear,” Midge confirms. She takes a breath and strokes his hair. “Besides. Gordon thinks we’re just dating. He hasn’t caught onto the fact that we got married two months ago.”
Lenny smirks, leaning in to kiss her tenderly. “You wanna torture your boss in front of the whole country?”
Midge smirks. “Desperately.”

Thoughts on Mrs. Maisel 5x04
- no flash forward at the beginning
- I just can’t stand gordon
- tess! thought we would see her there
- that whole sequence about trash was so boring. what even was the point?
- abe’s suit 🔥
- really don’t get why gordon doesn’t let midge perform. that’s dumb.
- sophie!! never thought I would be this happy to see her on screen.
- i’m living for the mike and susie scenes. these are so much fun to watch.
and for that episode I got up at 2am? what even was the point? this one felt like a complete waste of time. it didn’t add anything to the story. it was just plain boring. even worse than episode three.
don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean to sound ungrateful, but the last two episodes were so bad. at least we had kelly bishop in the last one. but this one… what even was that? I personally was really annoyed coming online and reading all the negativity towards season 5 in general, and I still don’t think it’s justified because we don’t know the whole season yet. but if the remaining episodes are like episode three and four, it’s gonna be torture to watch.
what did you all think of this episode?

My Regrets
She could feel his hand on her damn knee still.
How bad do you wanna keep this job.
She started feeling like she couldn’t breathe
This bad
Creeping up, and up
How bout this bad.
God she has to get out of here.
This bad, he whispered as he leaned towards her.
What a despicable man George Toledo was. What a despicable despicable human.
As she slapped him and ran off she didn’t know where she was running.
Still didn’t know.
Laura Percy-Bruce prided herself on being a strong, independent, capable women, very few things scared her. Everything went as planned in her live.
And then Lenny ran off to LA, and everything was falling apart and god maybe she needed to find her Aunt Shirley but Shirley couldn’t fix this could she?
Right now tho she was shaking.
The door. The Door. She had to get out of thirty rock and she was never coming back.
She loved this job but she was scared, she couldn’t come back here.
She made it successfully to the elevator when she heard someone yell out.
“Laura?Laura!”
Damnit doors,close. Close. Close.
“ LAURA.”
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
when the elevator doors open she thinks shes escaped Gordon when
“ Laura!”
Shit. Shit.
“ Laura stop, where are you going? Laura? Laura there’s a show in less than thirty minutes” Gordon’s talking fast trying to charm his way out of this just like everything.
“Gordon I can’t do this, I don’t belong here this isn’t what I’m good at” Avoid it, avoid it.
“ Bullshit, you’re too good at this.” He paused realization dawning on his face ” Laura, Laura did, George… did he say something? Do something?”
“ No Gordon No I just” she can’t breathe” God Gordon fine yes, George kissed me, I hit him, I can’t I can’t come back”
“ Laura you mean more to this show, more to me, than George does. Than George ever will. “ She hates to see him pleading, but she can’t give in.
“ Gordon there will be a hundred more George Toledos, I will never escape them. At least if I leave this job” she really considered it” I hold more power over them in the clubs.”
“ Laura, I will fight every single one of those men if you let me, Hedy and I are getting a divorce just stay and we’ll work it all out”
The pause went on just long enough she started to get uncomfortable.
“ you know I can’t, I’m not strong enough I- I have to go back to him.”
His face contorts into a very unreadable expression.
“ Laura you know you can’t, you told me yourself what he’s gotten into, you told me “
“ I told you a lot of things Gordon. I’m sorry. I can’t stay here I don’t belong”
“ Mr. Ford consider this my formal resignation, my regrets. “
And she turned to leave, pushing past him without a care in the world.
Out in the cold nigh she began to cry
The heart break she felt was deeper than in years.
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
Lenny was back in New York and he was killing.
Standing aside the stage watching him from afar Laura felt happy, or maybe not happy but content.
Suddenly she heard a commotion by the door.
“ no no sir you don’t understand I’m Hedy Ford, my husband is on the Number one TV show in the country and I need to speak to Mrs Percy….. please you just understand we don’t have cash to pay the cover because we just wanna see Laura and leave. “
She could see Hedy know, but suddenly someone behind her pushed through.
“ to hell with this I can literally see her. LAURA. LAURA. “
“ Carr??” Laura shouted back with a start, with a look to her left she noticed lenny staring awkwardly at her, she nodded on to him and made her way to the door.
“ Lonnie it’s cool I know them” she noded to the bouncer
“Hedy. Mike. To what do I owe the pleasure”
Hedy glared at Mike in a way that told her they had decided ahead of time that she was doing the talking.
“ Laura the show wants you back.”
She want in the Defense.
“ Hedy I’m sorry I can’t.”
“ because of Toledo right? Screw that honey. You can not let a man of that low of human compassion and capability ruin you like this. That’s not the women you are. and the truth is by running away you are letting him win. I’m sorry to have to say that but. Laura they show was better with you working on it, it needs you. “
“ Hedy that’s sweet but I can’t be within 30 feet of him without being terrified I just can’t I-“
“ Laura.” Mike cut in” Gordon found out George was holding up his contract, that on top of what happened with you, he’s not gonna have a job tommorow.”
She sighed “ Mike that’s great for progress but I can’t, I just can’t do this”
He got this earnest look in his eyes, “Laura, in twenty four hours it is very likely I will be producing the Gordon ford show and I can’t do that shit alone, there is no one I would rather have in my talent manager chair, with my talent board, then you. If you won’t fo it for the show, or for Gordon, do it for me, your friend and professional partner to coke back”
“ Mike there is no for Gordon I” I glance worriedly at Hedy this got awkward fast.
“ Laura I do not care what you and Gordon are getting up to. We’re getting a divorce. The deal always was we’d get married to make our parents happy but if he found someone he wanted to publicly be with that we’d get divorced, and that happened. “
She stopped and thought for a second, her breathing overly defined. She looked over and Lenny was walking toward the group
And it was odd to her to discover she didn’t feel how she did when Gordon walked toward her. she wasn’t thrilled to see him, there was no light.
“ hey Doll, what’s going on” Lenny smirked.
“ Lenny I-“ was she really doing this” I’m sorry I can’t do this any longer. I’m not happy with any of this. Professionally or Personally, this isn’t going to work out and I can’t keep forcing it”
She can see Carr smirk out of this corner of my eye.
“ Laura baby what are you taking about, you know I can’t do this alone honey” Lenny’s eyes are so wide.
Silence stretches on as she looks at the man who saved her.
“ I’m sorry Lenny, it’s all over”
She’s saving herself this time,
She nods at Mike and follows him and Hedy out of the bar.
MNMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
When she arrived to 30 Rock she relived that they said George was getting canned tommorow, he’s still here.
As if sensing her sudden anxiety Hedy put her hand on my arm.
“ you aren’t alone Laura.”
When we made it to the set she makes it a point to stand between Hedy and Mike and when she catches Toledos eye, her gaze holds firm.
Eventually we go to commercial break and Gordon sees me. He gets out of his chair and crosses the room and simply hugs me, and she holds him back just as tight.
“ Laura I’m sorry. I’m so sorry I should’ve done something more but I”
“ Gordon.”She cuts him off “ it’s okay. I’m okay.” Even more now, she chooses not to add.
He pulls away and holds her by the shoulders, “ I I have to go back on air but, don’t run away? I still owe you a drink” he smirks
“ you might owe me a lot more than that Gordy”
He smiles and as he walks back to his seat
“ George. You’re fired. “
Fin
( hello everyone! This is my first time writing and I know it’s an OC no one has any idea who is but I promise with time more will make sense lol. This is the first time I’ve published anything I’ve written so be kind!! I couldn’t decide which point of view to use so I stuck with third person but let me know if that’s weird?? I hope you enjoy! I’d like to reiterate this is how I see the charecters in my mind and I once again don’t know how drug addiction is so I can’t accurately portray that through Lenny. Also I believe in Girl boss Hedy Ford, and she will continue to be a solid part of Gordon’s life and the show, just in this framework the divorce was easier :) I think Mike is a little OOC but I think in more of my stuff he’s better)
