Otherworldly Constellations

So a little bit ago, I added to Capricornica’s lore with a fictional constellation due to the fact that from Alpha Centauri, the star that Capricornica (the planet) orbits, the sun - our sun - can be seen as part of the Cassiopeia constellation, and I wondered how the Pantherines would incorporate our home star into a constellation of their own making.

Since then I took a few other rough estimates of how the sun would appear in the skies of planets orbiting other nearby stars (from this article) and came up with more fictional constellations for other planets in the Capricornica universe (which includes STAR and The Greater Universe as well). The sun, which is seen in all of these constellations, is represented either by a light yellow circle (like this 🟡) or an empty circle (like this o).

The first constellation, which I already rambled about in this post, is the Star Biu

On Capricornica, Biu are a collection of several different species of flying animal, similar to birds on Earth. The Star Biu is a unique species of this animal, one of the few examples of a nocturnal Biu that hunts primarily at night, and possesses a bioluminescent patch of skin on the end of its long beak that is theorized to either aid in the animal’s sight in the darkness or as a way to lure in the small insect-like creatures it feeds on.

Next is The Great Devourer, from the planet Apépé

The Great Devourer (or Gosgos, as it’s known in the language of the Lietea species) is a massive underwater predator similar to Earth’s baleen whales. It has a large head and mouth, and a long serpentine body. It is mainly a filter feeder, but some of its prey can be as large as a basket ball. Generally, it won’t eat anything larger than that, but its size and strength pose a bit of a threat to underwater Lietea cities, as one sweep of its tail could take out entire buildings.

Next up, Iktoparas and The Guardian

Like humans on Earth, the Anu of Iktoparas draw images of themselves among the stars as well as familiar animals. The Guardian is an example of this, representing a fierce Anu warrior watching over her people from the night sky while they sleep. In some interpretations, this constellation also has her wings spread, but is most often depicted as above with her wings folded and therefore not visible as part of the constellation.

Then there’s the Little Flier from Nauticalia

The Little Flier is an animal called the Kokus in the language of the Qik species, and is a semi-aquatic flying creature that hunts above the ocean waves, but has to return underwater to breathe. There are many species of Kokus, but the one depicted in the Little Flier constellation is one that is commonly kept as a pet by Qik.

Next is Felgion, and the Lurefish constellation

A lurefish, also known as Kagiifar in the Zomai species’ language, is a large aquatic animal comparable in size to an Earth saltwater crocodile. It hunts in the deepest, darkest parts of Felgion’s swamps and mangroves, using a bioluminescent lure (similar to that of Earth’s anglerfish) attached to its lower jaw to attract smaller animals. The Zomai, having evolved from an ancient prey ancestor, regard the Kagiifar with wonder and fear.

And last but not least, the farthest of all planets I’ve covered so far, we have The Great Sun Dragon from Melusia

Melusia has many constellations of dragons, but the Great Sun Dragon is the largest and possibly most beloved by the Kal species. The Sun Dragon is the largest species of Melusian dragon, and was once hunted to near extinction by the Kal for its beautiful golden scales, but after the push for conservation laws to be put in place, the species’ population has been quickly growing back to what it once was. It’s not uncommon for Kal environmental activists to get tattoos of the Great Sun Dragon constellation to show their commitment to protecting this magnificent animal.

The siren stared at the ask for a moment, his freckled face turning a bright pink, as he awkwardly fiddled with a stray lock of hair between his clawed fingers.

“Uh— I, wellllll,” Ceb stuttered over his words at first, which only made him go redder and redder the more he fumbled. Eventually, although by that point he was rather aggravated with himself, the fluffy haired brunette answered.

“I’d marry Alistair. He’s my mate, anyway, so by human terms we technically already are.” Ceb stated that fact proudly before becoming rather sheepish.

“An-And, I, um, I can Appreciate that Felonious is rather impressive in terms of, y’know, attractiveness, and-uh, p-prowess— Soooo… If I Have to pick, to do that, not that I WOULD, it would be Felly.” As soon he finished speaking, Ceb lost all his previous nervousness to snarl at the ask, his ocean eyes narrowed, becoming angry slitted pins, as he spat out his last answer in disgust.

“And as for That— That Thing, if I EVER see that pathetic little parasite ANYWHERE N E A R MY MATE AGAIN, I’LL USE HIS BONES AS GIFTS FOR ALISTAIR TO ADOURN HIMSELF WITH.” It was clear the merman was not yet over what happened during Alistair’s kidnapping.

Okay I know you said OT3, however, this option was funnier and I figured you wouldn’t complain. If anyone reading this is not aware of hell doc (which is a crossover shitpost that spiraled wildly out of control) I’m not sure if this is the best or worst way to find out about hell doc. Also I have absolutely no idea what point in the timeline this takes place in other than it’s between the last two chunks. Which I guess makes it like a one month ish span now that I think about it.

“I’m off on Wednesday,” Goswin notes, watching Tsuzuru jot it down on his neatly-structured schedule page. Honestly, he thinks the fact that they need a schedule is more than a bit silly, but they’re overworked college students (well, aside from Misumi) and desperately need a collective date night.

How the fuck have Sakuya and company done this for so long?

“Oof, no can do, Gosgos,” Kazu chimes in. “Got a huge art project that night. Group stuff. Can’t skip.”

“Thursday?” El asks.

“Fuckin’ English paper’s due.” Erik frowns. “That’s gonna keep me up all night.” He shoots a glare in Tsuzuru’s direction, as if he can feel the impending lecture about the unhealthiness of all-nighters. (Please take your own advice, Tsuzuru.)

“Maybe Friday?” Sumi looks upset; Goswin wonders if he’s coming to the same conclusion he came to about seven minutes ago.

Tsuzuru sighs. “I picked up a shift to cover a friend, so that’s not an option. Maybe we should just do individual dates for now and try again after the semester’s over?”

A chorus of “no”s (and one hand-slammed-against-table from Eleven) echoes around the room.

“I, personally, am not waiting two months to spend time with all of you at once.” Goswin snatches the schedule from Tsuzuru’s hands. “Next week we’ll just have to plan better. No all-nighters, for classes or scripts.”

Tsuzuru looks physically pained by this concept.

“We could always play it by ear,” Erik supplies. “Like last time.”

“Last time wasn’t exactly by choice,” Tsuzuru mumbles.

“Is that a complaint?”

Tsuzuru elects not to answer. Smart choice. A shame that the blush creeping on his face answers for him.

Goswin sighs. “If we do that, then we’re never going to make it work. Best we can do is coordinate our schedules going forward.”

The group agrees, Misumi suddenly notices a never-before-seen triangle on the practice room wall, and the impromptu polycule meeting is adjourned.

Gosalyn always worried about Quackerjack’s bill, even if the scars are more of less healed she always sees them and thinks they need to be taken care of. Especially when he’s fighting crime with the rest of the friendly four. 

She always takes him from the others to bandage his beak once everyone is settled down. He never fights her, he’ll just sit and let her stick as many bandaids or patches on him knowing it makes her happy to know he’s safe. “Thank you, GosGos! My bill is all better. You’re such a good little nurse.”
