Musical Touken Ranbu: Gou on Stage ~ Satomi Hakkenden; New Edition english sub

At long long last I am able to present you the subtitles for the senshuuraku of Goumyu! After a very turbulent year, I'm glad to be lowkey picking up subtitling again. For this performance, though, I won't be able to do a tl notes file. If I were fair to myself, I'd allow myself to write my grievances with what Goumyu's plot does to what had been established for Kogitsunemaru and Mikazuki when those are relevant, but if I were fair to you all, I wouldn't give you a file that's 90% complaining and 10% actual notes or background.

Don't let my grievances distract from the performance though, it's still genuinely fantastic even if the theming choices may be painful to me. Especially Oodenta is fantastic. Goodness gracious.

Keep in mind that this is only the subtitle file, timed and tled to the DMM senshuuraku. The archive version will have a talk at the start, so the starting times of the subs will have to be delayed accordingly.

Thinking about how Marisa was the most eligible to be a Dancer in HSiFS. Thinking about how Okina took interest in Sumireko, considering her as a viable Dancer, in GoU. Thinking about Marisa Teireida (since one of Marisa's goals is eternal life, the power over vitality fits her) and Sumireko Nishida (since Sumireko is psychic, the power over mental energy fits her). What happens to Satono and Mai once they're let go, it seems like Okina thinks doing so would be best for them at this point, but do they have anywhere to stay? Does Sumireko finally get to stay in Gensokyo (perhaps brought in properly through Gensokyo's Back Door?) What of the Kirisame Magic Shop and the Hakurei Shrine's most consistent visitor? Marisa probably keeps resolving incidents as always, she just has a new reason/employer.

so there's technically a couple different points here, which i'll cover in sequence:

obviously, marisa would have to be in a really specific scenario to accept okina's offer, but let's take that for granted.

sumireko... there are technically two different sumirekos would could take this offer - pseudo-youkai/doppelganger sumireko (the one who appears in gensokyo), and outside world sumireko. of the two, i feel like okina would be more interested in the doppelganger (she was, after all, feeding power to the dream self just to see what would happen)

following on from there, what happens to satono and mai? there's a good chance that they'd simply die. there's an equally good chance that they'd survive, and then have to reintegrate into gensokyo as regular humans, which would probably be a nightmarish experience for the both of them. i can't see them lasting long under any circumstances, really. they're too far gone

i'd also be careful of what okina thinks is best. okina's whims are those of a god, and she does not think about human wellbeing in the slightest. she delights in mischief and pursues madness wherever it leads. when she says it's time to replace satono and mai, that's more her simply getting bored of them as anything else.

anyway. final question. would marisa be able to maintain her old life? probably not. she might try, for a while, but she's essentially become a type of shikigami, and okina's the type to play around with her new toys a lot once she has them. even with her tenacity, i imagine it wouldn't take long until she's all worn out, and her madness is more in line with what okina wants it to be. and she definitely wouldn't solve incidents - okina's happy to let those play out, because her gensokyo will endure either way. that's the main reason marisa didn't accept okina's offer, after all - because she was astute enough, after meeting the dancers, to recognise that okina treats humans as puppets and gensokyo as a stage for them to perform on. that's not the sort of being you should sell your soul to.

okina could still probably convince doppel sumi to do it though.

Octokuber, day 3 - Secondary Rider

Out of all the secondaries I could've picked, I ended up going with Gou because honestly? You don't just walk back an introductory episode like that. Oh, you're just gonna do back flips all over the main character, overshadow him in his own damn show, set up an entire stage with pyrotechnics for your first transformation, and you're just NOT gonna be my favorite character? I don't care how many stupid stunts he pulled in the later episodes, he had me at "Let's~ Henshin!"
