Texas Republicans say they are legislating election integrity, but their intent is clearly voter suppression. The GOP’s need to resort to such tactics is a sign of its total corruption, intellectual bankruptcy, and emotional desperation. In short, it’s dying. Let’s give it the coup de grace!

Biden’s press conference came as Senate Democrats were heading toward a failed vote on reviving the talking filibuster as a pathway to pass voting and elections legislation. Despite the clear blockades put up by two senators in his party to two major agenda items, Biden refrained from directly attacking those in his party. But he made no apologies for his forcefulness across two speeches this month when asking lawmakers what legacy they wanted to leave behind — one like Martin Luther King Jr. and the late congressman John Lewis (D-Ga.) or segregationists Bull Connor and George Wallace. Both speeches drew Republican condemnations despite near unanimous GOP opposition to voting rights legislation being considered in Congress and many Republicans’ perpetuating Trump’s lies about election fraud.

Koch and Walton have been buying up state governments for decades. This is why we are seeing a tidal wave of voter suppression laws, anti-abortion bills, and anti-LGBT hate legislation. We’ve watched it happen and have done nothing. The GQP is backed by billionaires and their multinational corporations. The dark money spent by the right simply can not be matched by the Dems. We need party level leadership to organize against this in every state. Republikkkan gerrymandering and election law changes will give state Red State Republikkkans the right to virtually choose whichever candidate they want in state and federal elections. Even if Dems win the vote they will simply appoint electors to do as they please.

Last week, Gov. Greg Abbott (R) announced a second special session for the Texas State Legislature. Texas Democrats have been in Washington, D.C. for the past month in order to deny Republicans of the quorum they need to pass a new voter suppression omnibus bill. The bill they were considering expired when the session ended, but Abbott called another one — and he can continue to call as many special sessions as he wants, according to Texas law.

Once again, voter suppression is on the agenda, and the Texas Supreme Court ruled on Tuesday that Democrats who broke quorum could be arrested if they return to the state. Indeed, soon after on Tuesday night, Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan (R) signed civil arrest warrants for 52 of his Democratic colleagues. The warrants permit law enforcement to arrest Democrats who are in the state and bring them back to the House chamber, although they will not be charged with a crime or fined.

On Thursday, state district judges signed orders blocking the arrests of 40 of the Democratic members. Democrats have questioned whether Rep. Phelan has the authority to sign such warrants, and half of them remain in Washington. “We’re united in staying away from the House as long as possible,” said Rep. Eddie Rodriguez (D).

All but one Republican House member voted for the issuing of warrants to arrest their colleagues. Rep. Lyle Larson (R), who did not vote for the measure, tweeted on Tuesday, “Have we got to the point where we believe our own bull shizz so much that we arrest our own colleagues. Civil discourse took a nasty turn today.”

Note: Larson better stay on my good side because my baby brother lives in his district and I'd cut a bitch for him. If you live in District 122 in San Antonio, give Lyle a jingle and tell him good job and to stick his boot up the asses of his GQP colleagues.

GQP WILL PROBABLY STEAL THE 2024 ELECTION

BIDEN'S PRESIDENCY MAY JUST BE AN INTERLUDE...

A lot of folks are happy - myself included - that they don't have to listen to the loathsome toadman or read his tweets anymore.

Biden won the election convincingly despite the pandemic and the various GQP efforts to suppress the vote including interfering with the USPS. The popular vote margin was almost 8 million but the electoral college vote could have gone the other way if a mere 22,500 voters had changed their vote from Biden to Trump.

Biden has taken control of the pandemic, passed his recovery plan, reversed a slew of harmful and unethical executive orders and will likely get a decent infrastructure bill passed and hopefully more besides. But none of that will matter to the Trump cult.

Immediately after the insurrection, McConnel, McCarthy and Graham condemned it but within a week or two, they'd walked it all back and were firmly back behind Trump. And now the party is almost completely coalesced behind Trump.

Shortly thereafter there was a boatload of legislation flowing through Republican State Senates designed to suppress the vote for poor and minority voters - 361 pieces of legislation in 47 states. If all these bills are successful, they could well be enough to tilt the election on their own. 

But everything that we have seen concerning the GQP relentless questioning the results of the 2020 election and all the recounts etc are prelude and proof of concept for what will happen next time round. Not only have the seeds of doubt on election integrity been carefully sown since 2016 but precedent has been established for doing what they will do in earnest in 2024. 

There will be no Raffenspergers or Sterlings next time. Yes, they stood their ground this time because...well, they didn't want to break the damn law! But having had the experience of being chastised by virtually the entire party, they won't be inclined to do it again. And if you want evidence of that, they have both supported the new voter suppression bills. 

But, speculation aside, if the electoral boards don't pass the GQP purity test, they will be removed and Georgia already has passed legislation to allow the Secretary of State to be overruled in electoral matters.

The GQP has already sent up trial ballons about submitting competing slates of electors. It was shot down by Constitutional scholars who thought it was laughable and declared that it was impossible. But, in 2024, if the GQP need to do it, they will do it and who stop it? Constutionality be damned! They can run it through SCOTUS if they want and SCOTUS will rubber-stamp it.

Gerrymandering, voter suppression and mid-term blues may well have Dems lose the House in 2022, which will hamstring the Dems and pave the way for more extreme measures in 2024.

I think that without HR1, now S1, things look very grim for Dems after 2022. In my opinion, the ONLY chance we have, is to remove the fillibuster and get S1 through the Senate.... and even then, I don't think that we have a sure thing. Who knows how well the States will play with the For the People Act in any case?
