Did you say all? O hell-kite!
No, not all--of the four shows I had booked last week, I did get one, the non-slight return on Saturday night. And what a show it was. For the first time in a while, I pretty much did three straight loops, no wandering. I have nothing but good things to say about the performances, whatever bad things I might have to say about only getting one show of the four I had expected. Oh, here's a bad thing: the elevator was broken. After valiantly ringing the bell three times (just like in a fairy tale), Vivian let us in by the stairs. I still got to the ballrom before the witches had entered.
Regular readers will not be shocked to learn that yr humble servant will follow anyone they've never seen before as Bald Witch. I had never seen Taylor Massa's Bald Witch. I followed. It was good. Really, really good. In addition to being as feral as the role requires, there were nice flourishes and touches like an insidiously half-romantic wake-up kiss for Banquo, detail work that's much appreciated.
Jess Smith's Danvers. This time in the traditional housekeeper's dress--sure seems like I saw her in last year in the new Communist Worker's Party version of the Danvers costume. AT ANY RATE, I am a fan of this performer's work and nothing happened in this loop to change that. The work on the couches in the Macduff suite was smooth as glass, and I'm pretty sure there was literally levitation at one point. Never a moment of downtime; it was gripping just to hang out in the dining room while "Is That All There Is?" played in the next room over. "Let's break out the booze" punctuated by a slug from the water bottle, always dreaming of a better life.
Georgia Usborne's Lady Macduff. This was a really interesting interpretation--something about the way the drugged milk hit this Lady Macduff was different. I was lucky to have the hand offered and the main thing I felt in that room was a sense of CARE, at least until the turn in that particular 1:1, a feeling of protection and concern but all of it graceful and fluid. Also, I had an incredibly runny nose (let's call it exertion-induced rhinitis) the instant my mask came off--authentically child-like and incredibly embarrassing!
What else is there to say about this one? Oh, something I hadn't noticed in a while if ever: the first Witches 2, there were not many folks in the Rep Bar and everyone was standing well back, and the witches and especially McNally's Macbeth took full advantage of this, using all the space, flailing and flinging choco-blood as the strobes hit.
As it turns out, I don't have much to publicly say about the shows that got cancelled, other than to note that the Guest Relations staff are consummate pros and swell folks.
PS: I went to Conwell Coffee Hall. It was quite the space, very quiet mid-afternoon. Who knows what might happen there when more folks show up? Not me.

I skipped writing one of these for the visit before last. Nothing of note happened except my realizing I've been missing out on root beer barrels. This one is horribly late, too, but after my birthday visit I was toppled by a cold and then had to come home to Connecticut and do real life stuff.
Lord, I've turned thirty, but judging by my reaction to seeing McNally as Speakeasy, in my head I'm still nineteen. I won the "find the candy" game and saved the strawberry wrapper the same way I did when I got his porter ring in 2012.
I never noticed before that when Boy Witch gets crammed into the box in the speakeasy he's essentially getting kicked out of a bar. We've all been there, pal, and some of us have been there in Key West in 2016 but it doesn't really matter cause our friends forgave us and we're never gonna see those people again anyway.
My first time getting the nurse's 1:1 since reopening, thanks to dearly beloved and soon to be dearly missed Robi. I never noticed before that there's a male statue without a head in that room, which is a clever foreshadowing of what happens to Macbeth.
I'm pretty sure this was the first time I've seen Jenna's Lady Macbeth since the reopening, and she's gotten a lot more tormented and tortured than I remembered. Instead of sitting at the top of the bed for her nosebleed scene she curled up in a ball at the foot of the bed and pulled the blanket over herself. Incidentally that was how I spent most of 2020.
I don't know if the person made out of fabric and standing in the middle of the tailor shop is new but it scared the shit out of me, so well done all.
Nobody's ever gonna find Grace if they don't stop changing her picture.
Since my birthday is also my SNM-versary, I always get a little bit emotional when it comes to birthday visits. Eleven years, good lord. When people ask me why I've stuck around I usually say it's because in all those years I haven't found anything better to do, but of course that isn't true. It means so much to me to have a place where everything remains so blessedly unchanged, and where I can go and remember and see where my own life has overlapped. So many times I'll be passing through and find myself thinking, "There's where I sliced my arm open in the rep bar hallway. There's where I found out I got into my MFA. There's where I lost my green square earring." Anyway, it means something to me.
I probably won't be back until March, and hence this was my last show before whatever mass exodus is coming comes. I've long stopped getting upset when people leave because more often than not leaving means "leaving," but still. Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye.

Apple has been sued by two women who allege their previous romantic partners used the company’s AirTag devices to track their whereabouts, potentially putting their safety at risk.
The proposed class action lawsuit was filed in federal court in San Francisco on Monday on behalf of one woman from Texas and another in New York. They are seeking unspecified monetary damages.
One of the women said her ex-boyfriend allegedly placed an AirTag – a small tracking device, slightly larger than a quarter and intended to help locate lost items – into the wheel well of a tire on her car. The device was allegedly colored with a sharpie marker and tied up in a plastic baggie to disguise it.

Malcolm, 36, and his wife, Simone, 35, are "pronatalists," part of a quiet but growing movement taking hold in wealthy tech and venture-capitalist circles. People like the Collinses fear that falling birth rates in certain developed countries like the United States and most of Europe will lead to the extinction of cultures, the breakdown of economies, and, ultimately, the collapse of civilization. It's a theory that Elon Musk has championed on his Twitter feed, that Ross Douthat has defended in The New York Times' opinion pages, and that Joe Rogan and the billionaire venture capitalist Marc Andreessen bantered about on "The Joe Rogan Experience." It's also, alarmingly, been used by some to justify white supremacy around the world, from the tiki-torch-carrying marchers in Charlottesville, Virginia, chanting "You will not replace us" to the mosque shooter in Christchurch, New Zealand, who opened his 2019 manifesto: "It's the birthrates. It's the birthrates. It's the birthrates." (...)
Genomic Prediction is one of the first companies to offer PGT-P, a controversial new type of genetic testing that allows parents who are undergoing in vitro fertilization to select the "best" available embryos based on a variety of polygenic risk factors.
The Collinses became the public face of the technology after being featured in a May Bloomberg article, "The Pandora's Box of Embryo Testing Is Officially Open." After the piece went live, Malcolm said, they began hearing from wealthy pronatalists around the country.
"We are the Underground Railroad of 'Gattaca' babies and people who want to do genetic stuff with their kids," Malcolm told me.

The Guardian's This Week in Patriarchy
Courtesy of Arwa Mahdawi
James Corden: the 2022 Ellen
It’s not been a terribly good week to be British, has it? It’s been pandemonium in the country itself and one of Britain’s more famous exports has been making a disgrace of himself. I speak of James Corden, of course. The comedian, an English immigrant in LA, has been making headlines for some egg-ceptionally mean-spirited behaviour. He turned up to eat at Balthazar, a fancy New York restaurant, and was nasty to the waitstaff, according to Balthazar’s owner, Keith McNally. In one incident he was extremely mean after he found a hair in his meal. In another he became apocalyptic because the staff got his wife’s order of an egg yolk omelet wrong. There was a little bit of egg white in it apparently and we can’t be having that can we?
McNally, who perhaps sensed a good opportunity for some free PR, did not hold back his thoughts on Corden. In an Instagram post he banned the comedian from his restaurant and called him “a tiny Cretin of a man” and “the most abusive customer to my Balthazar servers since the restaurant opened 25 years ago”. Still, that abuse was quickly forgiven after Corden apparently called up McNally to apologize. “Anyone magnanimous enough to apologize to a deadbeat layabout like me (and my staff) doesn’t deserve to be banned from anywhere,” McNally later wrote. Dude, apologizing isn’t magnanimous; it’s the absolute least someone can do!
The story should really have ended there but Corden decided to keep it going by telling the New York Times he hadn’t “done anything wrong, on any level”. Corden said: “I feel so zen about the whole thing. Because I think it’s so silly. I just think it’s beneath all of us.”
It’s not beneath me, mate. I understand that this is just some silly celebrity gossip and there are more important things to be worried about in the world but that’s precisely why I am so deeply invested in the Corden drama. When the world is falling apart, celebrity gossip provides welcome relief. And there’s a lot of Corden gossip out there. As soon as McNally unleashed on Corden the floodgates opened and lots of stories about Corden being “a tiny Cretin of a man” emerged. Becky Habersberger, who is married to a member of the Try Guys, shared a TikTok video about how she witnessed Corden yell at a busboy in Los Feliz. People started sharing a Popbitch story about how Corden had once ignored his crying baby for the entirety of a flight and left his wife to deal with the kid (grounds for murder). Everyone remembered that time he was seen cozying up to Sean Spicer at an Emmys party. And the time he was rude to Sir Patrick Stewart.
The parallels between Ellen DeGeneres, who fell from grace in 2020 after everyone decided she was a horrible person and her on-screen bubbly persona was a scam, are not hard to see. Indeed there are plenty of people who are already calling Corden the “Male Ellen”. Corden may be the male Ellen but, unlike Ellen, I’m not sure that the allegations he is a nasty piece of work are going to put a massive dent in his career. Women, after all, are consistently held to higher ethical standards than men and more harshly punished for the same transgressions. Studies have found that people react better to anger from a man than they do from a woman. A 2008 study, for example, called “Can an Angry Woman Get Ahead?” found that “male and female evaluators conferred lower status on angry female professionals than on angry male professional.” The study found that “whereas women’s emotional reactions were attributed to internal characteristics (eg, ‘she is an angry person,’ ‘she is out of control’), men’s emotional reactions were attributed to external circumstances.”
Anyway, I don’t know where Corden’s career will go next but I do hope that he is on his best behaviour from now on. The English don’t need any more embarrassment.
Russian feminists help men avoid draft
The day after Russia invaded Ukraine, 57 feminist groups in Russia banded together to form a group called the “Feminist Anti-war Resistance” or FAS. The movement is active in 100 cities in Russia and abroad and has been helping men avoid conscription. Like Black Lives Matter, FAS is decentralized. “This makes the FAS more adaptable and allows for new tactics and strategies,” a political scientist explained to DW. “The Hydra has several heads, and if you cut one off, 10 new ones grow back.”
What a pregnancy actually looks like before 10 weeks
This eye-opening piece from the Guardian has been going deservedly viral.
The woman hunting down revenge porn
Mia Landsem spends hours a day (unpaid) helping victims of revenge porn track down and remove their images from the internet. I would say she’s doing God’s work but she’s actually doing the work that highly-paid tech executives and politicians should be doing.
Female leaders are leaving companies at the highest rate ever
About 10.5% of female leaders (defined as those in senior management and above) left their company in 2021 compared with 9% of male leaders: the highest rate of voluntary departures since McKinsey started collecting data in 2017. Burnout and the pandemic are largely to blame.
America has a Black sperm donor shortage
Black men account for less than 2% of sperm donors at cryobanks, the Washington Post reports. “The severe shortage is forcing Black women who need donor sperm into a painful choice: Choose a donor of another race and raise a biracial child or try to buy sperm from unregulated apps and online groups.
How a $1,900 stroller became a metaphor for motherhood
“The baby stroller is only the most visible symbol of the ethos of consumer capitalism that saturates American pregnancy and parenthood,” writes Amanda Parrish Morgan in this fascinating piece.
Why Bolivia’s lawmakers are 50% women
Quotas requiring half of all party nominees are female were introduced in 1997 when just 9% of the country’s national parliament were women. Now that requirement is part of the constitution.
The week in pawtriarchy
One upside to the brouhaha in Britain is that Larry the Cat, who serves as Chief Mouser of No. 10 Downing Street, has been getting the attention and adoration he deserves. The 15-year-old tabby has now outlasted four prime ministers. “The King has asked me to become Prime Minister because this nonsense has gone on long enough,” Larry the Cat wrote in a viral tweet hours before Truss announced her resignation. Britain has officially gone to the dogs: time to bring in a cat.

Module 5 Assignment: Architectural Interiors
Audrey McNally
Professor Alfarone
Module 5 Assignment: Architectural Interiors
Home truly is where the heart is. In my home we have a loft area divided by the main living area. Which is shared between my mom, cousins, and myself. While finding a home to live in my mom and I realized the importance of lighting/windows and the overall feeling of the house. It was as though the second we walked in we would feel if it felt like the right option. The minute my mom and I walked in our place, we felt as though it was home.
To begin, the space that I would like to speak about is the layout of my dining room into my kitchen. Personally I found the way my dining room space to be set is simply welcoming. My mom is by far the most creative and talented person that I know. She completely designed the decor which created a happy atmosphere out of her love of oranges. Our dining room area is set off right from our front door. As well as giving access into viewing the kitchen, which along with our table includes bar seating. The overall layout of the kitchen has graced us with the ability to always be with one another. Some of the most beautiful conversations that I've had have been through this incredible access. My absolute favorite part of our dining room is the window right to the side of the table. With this window we are able to see stunning sunsets, watch what the neighborhood birds are up to, as well as have the most incredible lighting. The lighting gives us the feeling of openness in our smaller house. To me our dining room feels unique. It presents us with the ability to have a view of everything in our place except from the loft area. These three walls are a glue for my family.
If I were to pick one area of my house that I admire deeply, I would have to pick the area right of our porch. This area is laid out as a wall no greater than 3 feet with a sliding door right next to it to access our porch. My family and I call this area the green couch. It acts as an access point to see each and every part of the house. From this point we can see both bedrooms, dining room, kitchen, and living room. At this spot we are able to converse with each other no matter where one is in our place. This space's function is for conversations, putting one's shoes on, or simply taking a break from reality. It is not just my space, but everyone's space. It may just be one wall, but to us it is the middle point for our household. The difference between my dining room(domestic interior) is the fact that we can communicate with everyone in this area. In this space there is a green couch that can at most fit two people, yet always attracts others to it. It is by far the brightest part of our house both literally and figuratively. The green couch area also has an extremely tall ceiling due to the fact that the loft is right above it. Which conveys an even heavier feeling of openness.
In conclusion these spaces are what makes home a safe space. These spaces are welcoming and bright, which in the end radiates positivity.

Chioke Dmachi, the pop sensation with a knack for taking his audience on thrilling musical adventures,
Tumblr media
Behind the scenes, Chioke's rise to fame wasn't all glitz and glamour. While he's had his fair share of commercials, TV shows, and films, the real turning point came when the phone suddenly stopped ringing. Auditions dried up, and his agent even dropped him. It was a moment of reckoning, where Chioke had to confront the hard truth: something wasn't working anymore.
But instead of wallowing in self-pity, Chioke took a bold step. He embarked on a journey of self-discovery, asking himself the tough questions: Who am I? What do I want? And why? It was a transformative period where he shed the image of the actor waiting to be cast and decided to define himself. And boy, did it pay off!
With a newfound sense of purpose, Chioke delved into his passion for music. He began crafting electrifying pop tracks that defy expectations. Just listen to "Rain," and you'll be taken on a sonic rollercoaster that leaves you craving more.
Tumblr media
But Chioke's talent extends beyond the studio. He's a force to be reckoned with on the stage as well. From starring in the Terrence McNally play "Corpus Christi" to captivating audiences in the MTV show "Duets," Chioke's magnetic presence leaves a lasting impression.
And let's not forget his foray into the world of fashion. Chioke has graced the runways as a sought-after model, representing renowned brands like Target, Unionbay, and many others. With his striking looks and undeniable charm, he effortlessly struts his way into the hearts of both fashion enthusiasts and music lovers.
Tumblr media
But Chioke's journey isn't just about fame and success. It's also about embracing personal truths and spreading love. Through his honest and raw work, like his short film "BY the Way," he breaks barriers and sends a powerful message: love is love, no matter who you are or whom you choose to love.
When it comes to his musical influences, Chioke draws inspiration from the icons of pop. He looks up to the daring spirits of Prince, Michael Jackson, Janet, Bowie, Beyoncé, and Missy Elliott, who have paved the way for him to create his own unique style and sound. Their audacity encourages Chioke to obliterate the rules and make music that resonates with his individuality.
As he envisions his future, Chioke sees himself conquering the music industry with a sold-out world tour that takes him to breathtaking stages around the globe. He dreams of holding prestigious awards like Grammys in his hands, proof of his undeniable talent and dedication.
With his infectious energy and undeniable talent, Chioke is set to make waves in the music world. So keep an eye out for this rising star as he continues to dazzle us with his music, captivate us with his performances, and inspire us with his fearless authenticity. Chioke Dmachi is a force to be reckoned with, and his journey is just getting started.

Action By: Marie McNally
Grace: What do you mean you can’t go? Baby, this has been our dream for years—something just for you and me. I know if I can do this without you.
James: Cut!
Grace: The felt good, no? Oh. More subtle? Sound more innocent? OK. Almost unintelligent?
James: Hey, someone fix her shirt! We need more cleavage! Give the people what they want, am I right? God, at least I want it. This place is hell.
*~ * ~ * ~ * ~ *
Grace: The moment I realized I wanted to be an actress, my whole life changed. Granted, I was 12, so my life was really just listening to boy bands while I sat upside down hanging from my bed. My dreams chased me all the way to college where I studied acting. Me? Literally studying something that was always an outlet for my joy? Madness. However, the more steps I took toward becoming a professional, working actor, the more I question if I was living my dreams or a new nightmare. Nightmare may be too harsh. Perhaps a new shift in what was my reality. The things I have done to make it honestly make me sick. Some of them are nearly unspeakable. In my mind, I was the next Meryl Streep—a true film actress, not just some hot girl on the screen. So, ignore my commercial of giving a hot dog a car wash. I keep telling myself that small actors are sometimes are thriving, they are surviving. Small parts, right?? My next role? A sexual object for a man’s viewing pleasure.
