Band of Brothers Ages: IRL vs. Actors
Did you know that according to a 1947 study, almost half the men who served in WWII were still under age 26 by the end of the war?
What this is : A (very long) post comparing the ages of the actors in Band of Brothers vs. the IRL figures they are portraying.
Background: Did I need to do this? No. Did anyone ask for this? Also no. Did I do it anyway? Yes.
Disclaimers: This is SUPER approximate for the most part. I based IRL ages off of D-Day unless otherwise noted, and actor ages off of January 1, 2000, the year filming took place (the latter is where the most variation will be because I didn't try to figure out what month filming started). I also didn't fact-check birthdays beyond googling. Most are sourced from the Band of Brothers and Military Wikis on fandom.com, Wikipedia, and IMDb.
I broke them up into rough categories, which are, again, approximate. I know I often forget how young the real life people were here, and this was a good reminder of that. I also found it interesting to see which actors were actually younger than their roles!

*I'm aware Jonny stated Daisira is not meant as canon, I'm reaching a bit to include them on a technicality since they can very easily be read as such
**I also know Oliver's ex being named Graham is originally a coincidence, but i believe Jonny's words when asked about it being Folger was something like "sure, why not" so im also including them <3

Regarding the fourth point, in contrast to Western society and its various forms of pacifism, the peacefulness of the movement in Algeria does not preclude self-defense or even armed uprising, as evidenced by the preceding point regarding the martyrs. 80 years ago - 30th-31st March 1944. On a clear, moonlit night, over 700 aircraft of Bomber Command took off to attack Nuremberg. 95 would be shot down, while more crashed on returning to base; over 500 aircrew were killed. The city itself was covered with cloud and suffered only minor damage.

random question but do u have any book recommendations? ur whole vibe is something im looking for but in book format :0
ooooh thank you for asking! i love any oppurtunity to push my agenda onto others
my main book rec (and cw for like. horror and gore and cannibalism and gross sex) is always exquisite corpse. it's my favourite book everrr and like explains my whole vibe, horror goths galore, nasty gay sex, everything you need! poppy z brite's other books (lost souls, drawing blood, his short stories) also have a very similar vibe, very dark and gothic and beautiful boys in destructive homo love, it's perfect <3
in terms of other book recs, if you're looking for something more classical, i'll always recommend wuthering heights, rebecca, frankenstein (you can skip dracula)
if you want some broader horror and don't mind something icky, i loved the troop (craig davidson), audition (ryu murakami), tender is the flesh (augustina bazterrica) and the indian lake trilogy (stephen graham jones) (cw for racism)
BUT if you're seeking more nasty gay sex and queer horror, i recommend yes daddy (jonathan parks-ramage) (cw for abuse, rape, etc), manhunt (gretchen felker-martin) (cw for transmisogyny, rape) and tell me i'm worthless (cw for transmisogyny, racism, rape). i've also heard good things about the latter authors' new books, cuckoo and brainwyrms, but i haven't had the chance to read them yet :P

for the fanfic ask game: c, f, and p! :3
C: What character do you identify with most?
- *sigh* will graham (derogatory)
F: Share a snippet from one of your favourite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.
- oh this is hard but:
“I want you to eat me, Hannibal. In fact, I’d prefer it.” He paused, toying with Hannibal’s full attention. Hannibal kept his face blank, his eyes focused, but Will knew his mind was racing. “Start with my heart. Put it in this meal you made today. The same wine, too. I want it all to be the same, just with me on your plate instead of across the table.”
Hannibal could feel his own heart batter itself against his ribs. He took in a deep breath and spoke calmly. “Just your heart?”
Will scoffed. “No. I don’t want a part of me left to rot. I want you to taste me with every meal until there is nothing left. Savor me. Forget what anything else tastes like but me. As long as all my flesh is devoured, all the marrow scooped from the hollow of my bones. Then you can decide what to do with the rest.” Will took another bite of food, unblinking.
from The Pulse that Sustains You
or maybe:
Will shrugged, closing the box of cigarettes. Their use had run dry. “My nightmares are often portrayals of fear. Things out of my control. The nagging you can never run away from, sewn and healed to your core. A scar.”
Hannibal solemnly nodded, vague words penetrating deeper than he imagined. “I see why you scream.”
Will squeezed Hannibal’s hand, and Hannibal turned his palm upward, letting their fingers interlace. “Sometimes a scream is what you need to get you out. An instinct as old as the voice itself.”
from What the Wind Carries
Dialogue is not my strongest skill so it is hard for me to have distinct favorites.
P: Are you what George R. R. Martin would call an “architect” or a “gardener”? (How much do you plan in advance, versus letting the story unfold as you go?)
- If the story has plot, I plan a lot. I didn't for my first fic and wrote as I posted and will never do that again because it was stressful. Now, I sketch out the plot like "this the this then that" and line by line write it out with detail and dialogue. It helps me have a complete story and not end up with "okay but how do i end this" and never finishing it.
send me fic asks <3

do you have any novellas you'd recommend? I've been in an awful reading slump
I must confess, I don't read many novellas, but! My dad does, and he frequently recommends them to me (we have fairly similar taste), so I can pad the list with some of those.
The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists by Gideon Defoe; there's multiple, and they're these ridiculous short tales of these ridiculous pirates doing. ridiculous things. They made a movie out of the first one. the pirate captain worries he's not entertaining his crew, and on a heist they encounter Charles Darwin, who is training a monkey to be a man and he promises to help him show off this magnificent feat to his snobby superiors and help his rescue his brother from Oxford. Suffice to say things go funky. this is a story that embraces its ridiculousness beautifully
Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto; a bittersweet exploration of grief and healing. there's no huge drama, just a girl healing from the loss of her grandmother who finds someone who knew her late grandmother, and finds healing in time and new connections. and in sharing grief with new family. there's also a short story within banana at the end called Moonlight, which also discusses grief. one of my favorites :)
This is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone; you've likely heard of this one before. an epistolary novel of letters between two enemy soldiers in an infinite war across space and time. one fights for a machine-based side, the other for a garden/nature-based. they travel up and down time, ensuring pieces of the future are correctly in place for themselves and sabotaging each other. but more and more...they find themselves valuing these at-first taunting letters. and there are consequences to that
The Ice Dragon by George RR Martin; this one's meant for a younger audience, but I'm quite fond of it. a little girl was born with the cold inside her, and when the ice dragon visits during winter, she can safely touch it and all the other cold creatures without melting them like other kids. but war is coming, and she has to grow. and as much as she loves this dragon as cold as her, survival means sacrifices.
Mapping the Interior by Stephen Graham Jones; an. intriguing story about a kid living on the reservation who sees his dead dad's presence come back to visit--but there's something...off happening. and his little brother's seizure and condition are getting worse, and it turns out there's no escaping the past. this one leaves a bit of unsettling contemplation in my experience--and this author has also written a bunch of other things if it turns out to be to your liking
The Haunting of Tram Car 015 by P. Djèlí Clark; this is one I haven't read myself, but it's apparently an alternate history in Egypt of detectives trying to solve why this tram car is haunted--and trying to fix it. i intend to read it one day, just haven't yet
Fireheart Tiger by Aliette de Bodard; another one I haven't read about a princess sent away as a hostage when she was younger, but who has now returned and now faces an old love (I think? it's a little fuzzy. i believe it's also queer, but I wouldn't want to advertise it on that alone).
American Hippo by Sarah Gailey; recommended by my partner, is comprised of 2 novellas. I don't know much except that it's an alternate world where America did, indeed, bring hippos over to serve as a main meat source. however they are very viscous, and that causes problems, which I believe the main characters are trying to help solve...? they're spoken very fondly about it with me :)
I could likely come up with more if needed, but these are a solid few to get you going--if you want to read any of them. There is, of course, no pressure if none of these work for you! I think, personally, the first two are my top picks from this list; I've used them to get out of slumps myself. I wish you luck!!

HOUSEBOYS.
an independent, multi-muse blog. penned by cj.
RULES.
OOC
i love chatting ooc. i love plotting and headcanoning our ships/muses, so you can always feel free to come to me ooc. my rules sound kind of rude, but i promise i'm really friendly and a ray of sunshine. my messages are always open for anyone who's interested in possibly plotting/writing/chatting! this is and will forever be a work in progress.
my discord is available upon request to mutuals. i also write on discord. my name is cj. i’m twenty-five years old. i’m a black, gay man. don’t be racist or homophobic or transphobic or a piece of shit.
no ooc drama. i simply won’t tolerate it. i prefer my drama in the threads. thanks.
selective. i do work full-time and it does consume a lot of my time, so i will be selective with following and who i interact with. my activity on the dash will be spotty as well. please don’t rush me for replies. please cut your posts, and i prefer using gifs/icons.
SHIPPING / MUSES
none of my muses are straight, just making that known – however none of them are strictly gay either. i love writing m/m ships and i love writing m/f and m/nb ships as well. give me all of those things. this is a multi-ship blog.
all of my muses are men of color. do not fetishize them.
IN CHARACTER
this blog will contain NSFW material. i will try my best to tag everything, but i can’t promise that i will be able to.
if there are any triggers that you have, just let me know and i will create a tag to tag posts that contain that content.
with that being said, i won’t follow or write with anyone under the age of eighteen. if i can’t find your age on your blog, chances are i won’t follow back or reply.
i am fine with writing smut. i love writing smut in fact. but i don’t want my plots to be just smut. let the smut be a part of the story.
i will not write: stepcest/incest, noncon/dubcon, watersports, dd/lb/lg, pet play, scat, raceplay.
banned faces: deceased fcs, anyone who has requested to not be roleplayed.

TOMSLAND'S FC MASTERLIST
Aloha! He decidido hacer este FC Masterlist en lugar de una muse page porque durante 10 años de rol tuve más niños que una guardería. A continuación encontrarán faceclaims que he roleado/roleo/me gustaría rolear. Los escritos en negrita son personajes ya creados y el icono de estrella señala a mis musas principales, pero siéntanse libre de pedirme a quién sea que tengan como wanted opposite porque me abundan las ganas de rolearlos a todos.

Roy Owen Haynes (born March 13, 1925) is a jazz drummer. He is among the most recorded drummers in jazz. In a career lasting over 80 years, he has played swing, bebop, jazz fusion, and avant-garde jazz and is considered a pioneer of jazz drumming. "Snap Crackle" was a nickname given to him in the 1950s. He has led bands such as the Hip Ensemble. His albums Fountain of Youth and Whereas were nominated for a Grammy Award. He was inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame. His son Graham Haynes is a cornetist; another son Craig Holiday Haynes and grandson Marcus Gilmore are both drummers. He was born in Boston to Gustavas and Edna Haynes, immigrants from Barbados. His brother, Michael E. Haynes, became an important leader in the community of Massachusetts, working with Martin Luther King Jr. during the civil rights movement and for forty years serving as pastor of the Twelfth Baptist Church. He made his professional debut in 1942 and 1945 began his full-time professional career. He worked with saxophonist Lester Young and was a member of saxophonist Charlie Parker's quintet. He recorded at the time with pianist Bud Powell and saxophonists Wardell Gray and Stan Getz. He toured and recorded with singer Sarah Vaughan. He lent his voice to the open-world video game Grand Theft Auto IV. He was awarded the Danish Jazzpar prize, and the French government knighted him with the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. He received honorary doctorates from the Berklee College of Music, the New England Conservatory, as well as a Peabody Medal. He was inducted into the DownBeat magazine Hall of Fame. He was awarded the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation's BNY Mellon Jazz Living Legacy Award. His album Birds of a Feather: A Tribute to Charlie Parker was nominated for the 44th Annual Grammy Awards as Best Jazz Instrumental Album. He was named a recipient of a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and he received the award at the Special Merit Awards Ceremony & Nominees Reception of the 54th Annual Grammy Awards. He was given the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Jazz Foundation of America. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence https://www.instagram.com/p/Cpuo_c-uV4r/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

A wannabe rock star who fronts a Pennsylvania-based tribute band is devastated when his kick him out of the group he founded. Things begin to look up for Izzy when he is asked to join Steel Dragon, the heavy metal rockers he had been imitating for so long. This film is loosely based on the true story of the band Judas Priest.
