i joke a lot about being the reason for the fast car renaissance, but this is actually so beautiful and i’m glad tracy chapman got to have this moment tonight 🥹
Tracy Chapman on the Grammy’s performing Fast Car is so iconic I don’t think people understand. This is black history. This is queer history. This is women’s history.
While I’m complaining I’ll say the hate on Luke Combs for the success of his Fast Car cover has always been aggressively annoying, given Tracey Chapman has openly stated she likes the cover and loves the paychecks it brings in AND she made an extremely rare appearance at the Grammys to perform it with him, so there are clearly no hard feelings there whatsoever. And yet people continue to speak over her and make a problem where there isn’t one.
there is something so incredibly vile about the fact that lady gagas doing paparazzi at the 2009 VMAs didn't win the award for 'most iconic performance'. like what. you're telling me roar won over one of the most influential live performances in pop music history. this is ridiculous and that's coming from someone who loves both artists.
