January 8 It looks like Nvidia GeForce RTX 40 Super video cards will be presented in early 2024 at CES 2024. At least Nvidia has already announced a special event. [caption id="attachment_80889" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Nvidia's[/caption] It will take place on January 8th. Nvidia, of course, does not say anything directly about the new video cards, but the event is called GeForce Special Address, which indicates specifically 3D gaming cards. Nvidia's "super graphics cards" appear to be announced in January. In addition, you can remember that last year at CES the company announced the mobile RTX 40 Laptop and the desktop RTX 4070 Ti. As numerous leaks indicate , at least three models await us: RTX 4070 Super, RTX 4070 Ti Super and RTX 4080 Super. Whether there will be an RTX 4060 Super and RTX 4090 Super (or Ti) later is still unknown.

The cooling system is similar to that of the GeForce Founders Edition Galax company presented the same video card with a hole that it showed yesterday. This is indeed an RTX 4090, and the hole is indeed for cooling. [caption id="attachment_68019" align="aligncenter" width="780"] Galax RTX 4090[/caption] The card is called the RTX 4090 20th Anniversary Edition and was released in honor of the 20th anniversary of Galax itself. True, the company was founded in 1994, that is, it will turn 20 years old only next year. [caption id="attachment_68020" align="aligncenter" width="606"] Galax RTX 4090[/caption] The card is called the RTX 4090 20th Anniversary Edition and was released in honor of the 20th anniversary of Galax itself. True, the company was founded in 1994, that is, it will turn 20 years old only next year. Galax RTX 4090 20th Anniversary Edition Unveiled [caption id="attachment_68022" align="alignnone" width="594"] Galax RTX 4090[/caption] The adapter looks quite unusual due to the two fans shifting to the right. This same hole allows air to pass through the radiator of the cooling system, and on the reverse side, there is another fan. As a result, the CO configuration is similar to what Nvidia uses in its GeForce Founders Edition models. [caption id="attachment_68024" align="aligncenter" width="594"] Galax RTX 4090[/caption] Another feature of the card is a hidden power connector. It can also be noted that the adapter is quite large: 344 mm in length and 60 mm in thickness. However, the GPU frequency is not a record and is 2595 MHz. The new product will go on sale on November 11. This will probably be a limited edition. [caption id="attachment_68025" align="aligncenter" width="715"] Galax RTX 4090[/caption]

But in several games the drawdown is noticeable The GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB video card is the most powerful among current generation adapters with eight PCIe 4.0 interface lines. The authors of Hardware Unboxed decided to check whether this limitation affects performance if the card is installed in a motherboard with a PCIe 3.0 slot. In this case, the throughput will be identical to that of PCIe 4.0 x4. [caption id="attachment_64699" align="aligncenter" width="780"] GeForce RTX 4060 Ti[/caption] As you can see, even at the level of performance that the RTX 4060 Ti provides, the bandwidth limitation affects performance. In general, not much, but in some games it is quite noticeable. What happens if you install a GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB video card in an old PC with PCIe 3.0? On average, the difference between PCIe 3.0 and PCIe 4.0 in Full HD is 4%, in 1440p it is only 2%, and in 4K it is only 1%. But in individual games, everything is very different. Even in 4K in Far Cry 6 the difference can reach 12%, and in Full HD in CS: GO it leaves an impressive 28%. https://youtu.be/XfkJVio8gXo Thus, it turns out that owners of older platforms with PCIe 3.0 in general may not worry about a drop in performance when buying an RTX 4060 Ti, but still, technically there is a drop at this level.

But we don't know the performance level yet While Intel is preparing to launch sales of the Arc A580 video card, which was introduced last summer, in Japan some retailers began sales ahead of schedule. More precisely, allegedly ASRock, as one of the manufacturers, forgot to notify sellers about the start date of sales. As a result, in Japan, you can already buy the card. [caption id="attachment_64139" align="aligncenter" width="780"] Intel Arc A580[/caption] Intel Arc A580 went on sale earlier than the official date, and the card is cheaper than its competitor For example, in the Biccamera store, they charge about $260 for an adapter. This may seem like a steep price since the Arc A750 is asking that much in Europe, but electronics prices tend to be higher in Japan. To better understand the positioning of the new product, it is worth knowing that in the same store, the Arc A750 costs about $370. Thus, the Arc A580 is 30% cheaper than the Arc A750. If the situation is approximately the same in Europe, then they will ask about 180–190 dollars for a new product. [caption id="attachment_64140" align="aligncenter" width="780"] Intel Arc A580[/caption] However, you can look at the US and Canadian markets, where the new product has already appeared on some sellers for $210. We don’t yet know what performance the Arc A580 has, but we know that Intel itself is positioning it against the Radeon RX 6600 and RTX 3050. The first in Europe starts at about 200 euros, and the second can be bought for 220 euros. That is, the Arc A580 may be cheaper than both of them.

The demand for accelerators will only grow When Nvidia said it sold $10.3 billion of data center equipment in the second quarter of fiscal 2024. Research firm Omdia claims the company has sold 900 tons of H100 high-performance computing GPUs. Omdia estimates that the average weight of a single Nvidia H100 compute GPU with a heatsink is more than 3 kg, so Nvidia shipped more than 300,000 H100 accelerators in the second quarter. [caption id="attachment_56506" align="aligncenter" width="780"] Nvidia[/caption] Nvidia shipped 900 tons of H100 accelerators last quarter India expects Nvidia to sell about the same number of GPUs in the coming quarters, so the company plans to sell about 3,600 tons, or 7.2 million pounds, of H100 GPUs this year. This would amount to approximately 1.2 million H100 GPUs per year if the pace remains unchanged. However, this is insufficient to satisfy the insatiable global demand for Nvidia GPUs based on artificial intelligence technologies. Deliveries are expected to continue to grow. Tom's Hardware lists what else weighs 900 tons: 4.5 Boeing 747 aircraft; 11 Space Shuttles; 299 Ford F150 Lightning; 181,818 PlayStation 5; 32,727 golden retrievers.

Although technically everything should be fine Intel continues to improve its software for Arc video cards after the release of the Starfield game, which initially did not work at all on these same video cards. The first driver was released the other day, and now the company has released the second, but this is not yet a full-fledged version of Game On. [caption id="attachment_53740" align="aligncenter" width="780"] Intel graphics card[/caption] That is, there may still be (and often are) problems with the Starfield game on Arc video cards. At the same time, curiously, after gamers contacted Bethesda, which released the game, the company reported that even Intel’s flagship Arc A770 model does not meet the minimum system requirements of the project. Even the most powerful Intel graphics card does not meet Starfield's minimum requirements. [caption id="attachment_53741" align="aligncenter" width="369"] Intel graphics card[/caption] The developers reminded us that the minimum adapters include Radeon RX 5700 or GeForce GTX 1070 Ti. True, the point is that on average the Arc A770 is slightly faster than the first and certainly significantly outperforms the second. And here either Bethesda is simply not aware of the state of affairs on the video card market, or the company considers Intel adapters to be worse than they are on average, specifically for Starfield.
