Blackpool Boneyard Weekender Festival, July 2024

In 2023, former member of Alien Sex Fiend, Andrew ‘Ratty’ Wilson came up with the genius idea of arranging a music festival. Not just any music festival, this was Blackpool Boneyard Weekender, a freakshow of all the undesirables, other festivals would turn their noses up at. Songs Of-Preys were fortunate enough to be part of that festival and here we are in 2024 with a bigger, faster and stronger festival.

Twins Gut Out Crazy Win In Chicago!

Twins 7 White Sox 3 W-Pagan (1-0) L-Colome (0-1) 

The Chicago White Sox have caught fire with three straight wins after a horrible start. The Sox looked for the sweep on a beautiful day in Chicago today. The Sox bats got to work in the third as Seby Zavala drew a lead-off walk. With two outs, Eloy Jimenez smoked a Pablo Lopez sweeper out to left-center for a two-run homer. This put the Sox up by a pair of runs after three innings of play. Pablo Lopez and Lucas Giolito were dueling it out until the Twins struck in the sixth. Carlos Correa lined a Lucas Giolito slider out to left for a solo homer. Minnesota pulled within a run after six frames. Both starters got through seven soild innings and it was up to the bullpens today. The Twins rallied again in the eighth as Byron Buxton smashed a Reynaldo Lopez slider out to left for a game-tying solo homer. Jhoan Duran got in and out of trouble in the eighth as we headed into the final inning. Kendall Gravemen and Jorge Lopez put up zeroes in the ninth and extra innings were needed. Jimmy Lambert got out of a jam in the tenth and the Twins were held scoreless with the ghost runner. Billy Hamilton was the ghost runner in the tenth and Eloy Jimenez was intentionally walked. Ryan Jeffers could not handle a Brock Stewart slider for a passed ball, which moved up both runners. Oddly enough, Tim Anderson struck out and Luis Robert was walked to load up the bases. Brock Stewart struck out the side and an eleventh inning was needed. Aaron Bummer struck out the side in the eleventh and Emilio Pagan put up a zero to extend the game. The Twins finally broke through in the twelfth as Jose Miranda hit a chopper to short that Tim Anderson couldn’t handle. Trevor Larnach scored on the play to put the Twins up by a run. Joey Gallo drew a walk and Ryan Jeffers couldn’t move up the runners with a bunt. Nick Gordon followed with a run-scoring double to center and the Twins had a 4-2 lead. Max Kepler drew a walk to load up the bases and Carlos Correa knocked in a run with a walk. With two outs, Jorge Polanco drove in a pair with a single to center and the Twins lead grew to five. Jovani Moran came on and Eloy Jimenez hit a run-scoring single to right to inch Chicago within four. Tim Anderson hit into a double play and Luis Robert struck out swinging to end the game. The Twins somehow gutted out a crazy win in Chicago today. 

-Final Thoughts- Pablo Lopez rebounded after two bad starts in cold weather. He threw seven solid innings and allowed two runs on six hits with a walk and eight strikeouts. Jhoan Duran walked two and got out of it in the eighth and Jorge Lopez did the same in the ninth. Brock Stewart loaded the bases then struck out the side in the tenth and Emilio Pagan had a clean eleventh. Jovani Moran gave up a run with the ghost runner, but closed the door in the twelfth. The Twins scattered five hits on the day and the offense needs to wake up. They hit 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. The Twins will now head to Cleveland to play the scuffling Indians. Bailey Ober will face Peyton Battenfield in the series opener tomorrow night.

IGP Asks Court To Dismiss Dethrone Sanusi’s Suit

The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss a suit filed by the deposed Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi, challenging his banishment

The Kano State Government had on March 9, 2020, deposed Sanusi after which security agents moved him to Abuja and was later banished to Awe, Nasarawa State, where he was detained in a private home until March 13 when he obtained an interim order of the court for his release from house arrest. In his preliminary objection, the IGP argued that the court lack jurisdiction to hear the suit.

The IGP, however, contended that the rights violation complained of by Sanusi followed his dethronement which took place in Kano, which he argued ought to be the appropriate venue to file the suit and not Abuja.

“The alleged infringement of the fundamental right of the applicant in this suit(Sanusi) is only ancillary to the dethronement of the applicant as the Emir of Kano, which is a matter within the jurisdiction of the High Court of a state.

“It is crystal clear from all the processes filed by the applicants that the facts gave rise to this case arose from Kano State, where the applicant was dethroned as Emir and flown to Abuja enroute Nasarawa State. “It’s our submission that coming into Abuja was only as a mere passage to their actual destination, which is Nasarawa State, and as such, Abuja cannot, by any stretch of reasoning, be said to be the place where the infringement occurred,” he said.

The IGP added that the dethronement which led to his banishment was a chieftaincy matter that only State high court and not Federal High Court had jurisdiction to hear.

But Sanusi, through his lead counsel, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), in a counter-affidvat, faulted the IGP’s contention insisting that his suit was not about his dethronement but his family’s forceful ejection from the palace and their banishment from Kano and subsequent confinement.

He argued that his infringement of his fundamental rights was not limited to Kano but was a continuous process that spanned three territories -Kano, Abuja and Nasarawa. “The nucleus or gravemen of the applicant’s complaints is centrally on the violation of the applicant’s fundamental rights and there’s no or any other complaints thereein.

“The claim of the applicant, as presently constituted, does not have any colouration of chieftaincy matter as alleged by the first respondent. The applicant is not challenging his deposition in this case,” Fagbemi argued. Justice Chikere has fixed October 20 for hearing
