I have worked in fashion financing for over five years now, and I have been a nineties music fan for 30, but it just occurred to me that the Canadian retail chain Gravitypope is 1000% a reference to Canadian alternative rock band The Age of Electric.

My daily knickers
Tumblr media
2024 Update: While Everlane’s Supima cotton felt great at first, the fabric itself was quite thin. There’s definitely visible wear to these bottoms now, the kind where you can see little elastic fibres. I’m not pleased and am glad I didn’t fully stock up with these. And so the search continues... For now, my post on Baserange.
As much as I love my fancy silk knickers, it’s always good to stock up on some basics. I used to get in on those Victoria’s Secret and Aerie bulk deals but for awhile I’ve been looking for better alternatives. Right now, I’ve been into the Bikini (left) and Hipster (right) by Everlane.
Made with supima cotton, these basic knickers are definitely worth their price. You cannot tell from the online photographs but while the material is light, it also feels more durable than the cotton used by Victoria's Secret and Aerie. The fibres are more densely woven and overall, it feels softer and they haven’t bagged out over the months. There are also no tags to remove. I took both pieces in M and both fit perfectly, never riding up. You can buy 3 bottoms for a discounted price of US$27 or one bottom for US$12. Everlane’s lingerie is made in Sri Lanka and you can visit their website to learn more about ethical production in this factory. I am definitely going to try out Everlane's bras next.
Other daily basics I’m interested in trying are
Tumblr media
Bottoms by Organic Basics, made with organic cotton in Turkey. Hipster two-packs are available through Azura Bay for CA$59.
Tumblr media
Bottoms by Baserange, many pieces made from an organic cotton-elastane blend in Portugal. Select pieces available through gravitypope for $35-$60.
Tumblr media
Bottoms by Origami Customs, featuring deadstock, recycled polyester and bamboo pieces made in Tiohtiá:ke/Montreal for CA$27-$45.

44 Small Businesses to Support Across Canada Right Now

This weekend marks the start of the Canada United initiative, a local movement designed to “show local businesses some love.” Below, we’re sharing a list of 44 small businesses that you can support this weekend – and beyond.
