The fact this is a W.I.T.C.H account makes me so happy this is a show and book series I love as a kid a still love. I watched it so many times even found the entire show on YouTube. The guardians, the heart of candracar, ahhh now I have to Binge watch. Love the avatar sprinkles in there too. 💖👏🏾🥺

W.I.Z.A.R.D.

Fifteen years ago, the White King, Shikaratobu, and his Knights of Mt. Thanos, plunged the universe into war. However, the loving sacrifice of Wilma and Matt Olsen to protect their son Will ended their conquest.

Now, the remnants of the Knights of Mt. Thanos have recruited even more unfortunate bystanders to their cause, and are threatening the universe once again. And the Council of Candracar recruits five new teenagers to become the new Guardians of Infinite Dimensions.

They are William Olsen, the aformentioned orphaned boy (Quintessence/Orange), Isabella Tubbs, a somewhat loveable school delinquent (Water/Blue), Zachary Ashcroft, a not so social straight-a student (Fire/Red), Angelica Green, a popular girl with a heart of gold (Earth/Yellow), and Rin-Don Lyndon (Air/Green), an aspiring artist with a love of the supernatural. Together they form W.I.Z.A.R.D., using their five elemental powers to fight against the evil Knights of Mt. Thanos.

Sam is the amalgamation of Will Vandom and Cassidy, not just in appearance but in personality too. She is a capable leader, although she often second guesses herself due to a fear of letting others down. She is highly compassionate and often the first to react in defending others. She has a great love of swimming, feeling at home in the water. She often finds swimming at the pool or the local Shell Beach to be relaxing. Sam's power combines the ability of water and quintessence, creating the element of Shadow. Sam can hide within the shadows, control another's shadow, or manipulate her own shadow separate of herself. It isn't a power she likes to flaunt, seeing as how often times shadows represent evil. However, if an evil tyrant like Phobos can wield light, so due can a hero wield the darkness.

Extroverted Thinking (Te): Phobos is nothing if not imposing. His word (and reign) are absolute and holds no quarter for those who won’t submit to his will. Phobos’ ruthless nature is quite apparent when he doesn’t have to pretend to be nice, with his remorseless and vicious actions. When forced to team up with the guardians against Nerissa, he tries to assert his will over them, to no avail.

Introverted Intuition (Ni): Phobos has a definite goal in mind: break through the veil and conquer all other worlds. To do this, he needs Elyon’s power. He adopts the facade of an aloof but caring big brother to gain her trust. Phobos is easily able to tell people’s strengths and weaknesses, which then allows him to exploit those traits. This is demonstrated in his first encounter with Will, which left her with a deep fear of him.

Extroverted Sensing (Se): Phobos is very intelligent but, also very impulsive and quick to anger. An example would be when he crosses to Candracar to conquer it, forgetting that he swore on the Heart of Candracar not to and almost lost his powers. It’s these moments of impulse and arrogance that lead to his downfall. Phobos also has a taste for decadence, shown when he redecorates Kandracar in gold and red.

Introverted Feeling (Fi): Phobos keeps his emotions to himself, unless he’s angered. In which case, he’ll explode with a violent fury. Ultimately, he’s selfish and cares nothing for those he hurts or destroys.

My penpal friend asked me that if I would be the guardian, what kind of costume I would have and what would be my element. I think my element would be water and in the picture you can see my costume. Yan Lin: Ah! Lord Cedric.

Irma: Lord? They’ve got pretty low standards for knighthood over there.

Yan Lin: Cedric is not always in this form.

Irma: Well, that’s good news for his wife.

W.I.T.C.H was to me what Sailor Moon was to a lot of other girls my age. Back in the good old days when they used to hand out the Scholastic Book catalogs out in my classroom every month, it was common practice for me to not pay any attention in class for the rest of the day while I perused the pages instead. I would circle what I wanted based on what covers looked cool and then go home and give my parents this whole speech about why I needed them and list all the reasons they should write me a check and let me order everything I had circled. Based on my experiences getting them to agree with me, I almost feel like I should have chosen a career path that involved me being a lead negotiator. Granted, I may never know if they agreed because I was convincing or because the idea of me staying home and reading all the time was more attractive than going out and defacing or stealing stuff from our neighbors like the rest of the kids in my neighborhood. I’m not even being dramatic. There weren’t many kids on my street when I was growing up and there was legitimately a period of time where every morning something else in the neighborhood was scrawled on with permanent marker or just outright destroyed.

Anyway.

It was one of these massive orders of books from the catalog that shipped me the very first W.I.T.C.H graphic novel.

It wasn’t very long and I was honestly initially disappointed with how thin it was until I gave it a chance. Bright colors and pretty animation aside, the story was actually really compelling and as soon as I finished it, I started combing book stores to see if the series continued. This was before we had the Internet in my house so this was not as easy then as it would be now. I combed every bookstore my parents grudgingly let me drag them into until I finally found out that more books DID exist. Rather than full graphic novels, the series I managed to find were a mix of graphic novel and regular novel. The books would begin with about five pages of glossy comic panel pages, the meat of the story would be straight up text and then the book would end with more pages of comic panels. I was OBSESSED. I wanted so much to transform into a gorgeous winged warrior, decked from head to toe in purple and turquoise with the ability to control one of the four elements; to protect Meridian and its inhabitants… all while also having to worry about finding a prom dress and not be late for homeroom!

Of the five Guardians of the Veil, I didn’t really relate to one in particular since they all had qualities I could easily relate to. For this week, it’s more about paying homage to the group as a whole rather than trying to recreate the look of one particular Guardian.

Since wearing teal and purple striped tights tiptoes more into the actual ‘cosplay’ category rather than a subtle, casual look, I kept the homage away from my legs and started with a pair of basic boot cut jeans, but did slip on a pair of comfortable purple flats since those can go with almost anything

The teal and purple that make up the entirety of the girls’ transformation outfits made its appearance in a teal blue tee shirt and incredibly comfortable purple cardigan

It should come as no surprise at this point that this is my favorite part.

In order to get the look of the Heart of Candracar (The amulet that releases the girls’ magical alter-egos) I actually already had something that kind of vaguely resembled it and I got really excited when I saw the similarity

Since the neckline of the shirt doesn’t look quite right without a shorter necklace to compliment it, I also added this simple, goldish pendant that reminded me of the symbols that represent the powers of the girls

The final CHYKN headcanon doodles, finishing up with the Big Bad Mistress, Nerissa! Her full name is Nerissa Basile. Nerissa's home life was far from ideal, thanks to her alcoholic father. If his words didn't hurt, his actions would. Despite being a man of great wealth, he often used that money to hold Nerissa and her mother hostage, all the while wasting his precious funds on gambling and scams. Mr. Basile's sister, Aunt Camilla, was just as bad, often flaunting her wealth for favors or bribery. Mrs. Basile was the exact opposite of her husband and sister-in-law. She was meek, but a gentle person. She did what she could to protect her young daughter from the abusive behavior of her husband, but it seems like the years of abuse are finally taking a tool on her mental health. The only other sane member of Nerissa's family was her uncle Gary, who is Mrs. Basile's younger brother. He's a car mechanic and a goofball, but he always has Nerissa's and her mother's backs whenever he can. And even he doesn't have much money, he always finds a way to spoil Nerissa. As a Guardian, Nerissa was quick to adapt, seeing as how she could now serve justice against the wicked. She already had a reputation at school for being a "bull dog," a person no bully really wanted to mess with. Only now instead of using her fists, she had the Heart of Candracar to deal justice.
