The way sprite and I’s tastes in games clash is so funny

Im like ‘this is an experimental puzzle game made in 2002 where you play as an ai exploring their own trauma in a esoteric dream state using hijacked cameras and line of sight based puzzles and a time dialation mechanic. and you have to navigate the game through code readouts but its very good’

And sprite is like ‘this is infinite superdeath gungame where you can kill things forwver :)’

About Valve

They are a corporation, with all it's problems and some boons. However, I find this very funny when you imagine them as a guy who goes into a workshop for a year or two and then emerge putting an item on the table, smiling, and going back into the workshop.

A dozen corporations each put out their FPS games, meant to be the new king of the genre.

Valve, emerging, nomming an apple: "Hey guys, we finally finished Half Life 2. Hope it was worth the wait. Also... Here's Team Fortress 2 and a niche puzzler called Portal. Have fun.", then leave.

Everyone gets the Orange Box and after playing with HL2 and TF2, they just fall in love with Portal. So much so that everyone tries to copy Portal's tone. Everyone makes their hero shooter games more like TF2 with design. Everyone wants to reach the level of AI HL2 had, and then it turns out that HL2's AI is stronger than believed, the level design holds them back.

And then Valve is left in the dust by other aspects, AI, and so on.

Then Valve returns, saying they got "an episode for HL2, new format, have fun". Everyone made episodic formats but THIS sold the deal, being just there, easy to access on Steam! Everyone wants their own Steam and their own episodic game.

Then Valve runs into it's archnemesis-duo: time and the number 3. So they disappear for a while. Everyone forgets about Half Life 3 (I kid: people wait it like a Messiah)... then Valve emerges to the FPS scene.

"Hey guys, here is Portal 2. Now with coop. See you later.", then disappearing again. Portal 2 has only one reference to the old memes, brings new ones, and a surprise show of Nolan North, who is in everything. People want to ask Valve but they are gone again.

Then VR games break out. Everyone makes VR games. Everyone is happy with them, training, trying roller coasters and FPS games and so.

Then Valve slips by, drops The Lab VR, and disappears. Not a single word. The game suddenly enshrines how to control two hands at the same time... And VR leaves Valve in the dust again. Everyone has their gungames and so... And then, suddenly:

"Hey, this is cute. Anyone, everyone, here is Half Life Alyx." They put it on the table, smile, and the moment someone asks "is this HL3?", Valve just disappears behind a passing bus again.

And Alyx is suddenly blowing up because it is like Half Life 2.5+pi.

And people still play Team Fortress 2, Half Life 2 and Portal. Their design still hold up, even if the graphics are dated.

This Valve guy knows something.

First of all, Quinlan the beloved 🙏🏼 I hope it’s ok if I ask some of the oc questions cuz I’d love to get to know him more!

Basics 2 and 3, Personality 8 and 11, Background 1, Relationships 4 and Fun facts 8? Don’t feel like you have to answer them all if it’s too much I just think he’s really cool (*´꒳`*)

-What does their name mean? Why were they named that?

Quinlan means “shapely, fit, strong” Not too meaningful but his Ma thought it would suit him as he grew older, and it does!

-How old are they? When’s their birthday?

He’s 26 when he arrives in Sandrock. His birthday is 10th of Summer!

-What are their manners like? Any habits?

He’s adapted many mannerisms while traveling around but since he stayed at Atara and Vega5 the longest, he is generally polite, friendly and professional. At the same time though, while dealing with certain individuals at those cities he’s also learned to act accordingly when needed, such as being sarcastic, gentle, aggressive, cunning etc. He’ll switch it up when need be.

He has few little habits but his main one would be..singing. You may see him around with headphones popped in, hearing him sing or hum various tunes from the old world. It keeps his mind busy, keeps him distracted from…other things

-What are some items they always carry and why? Do they collect anything?

(This is an old drawing but-) He always keeps some kind of music player (+backups in case batteries run out) and headphones. A Gungam themed duffel bag; he always used traveling bc he traveled light, this bag was enough. In Sandrock he uses it to carry materials and commission items if he needed to. Mask + goggles of course for Sandstorms (and maybe for a disguise?) Also his red gem earring is a treasured item, it’s part of a pair and his dear friend has the other half.

He has a collection of various books, relics and tech that he keeps in a classified hideout location. Any duplicate items he’ll donate anonymously to the nearest museum/research center the item was found.

-Where were they born? What was their childhood like?

-Who do they look up to? Who do they trust?

In general, he looks up to his older sister Mali,in Sandrock; Justice, Mort and Zeke.

He trusts: Mali, Mint, Claire (Portia oc), his Ma. It’s still up in the air for anyone in Sandrock though, the current situation is big sus. He leaning toward trusting a bit in Justice, Heidi and his outcast crew (Qi, Unsuur, Fang, + sometimes Zeke) He’s ok with trusting X, Jasmine and Pebbles though 👍🏼

-If you had to choose one tarot card to represent them, which would it be?

Hmmm I’m not at all familiar with tarot cards or things like that so I’m gonna skip ^^;
