going to a comedy open mic tomorrow mostly to watch my friends (it's at a cool venue that my improv troupe performs at once a month and a few improv troupe friends are doing standup there) but when these friends were asking if i'd be interested in coming they were like "btw there's usually a ton of open spots on show days if YOU want to do something... and they're not strict about it only being standup either, people have done character pieces and sketches etc like they embrace the weirdness... and they're not strict about time limits you could probably do anything between three and eight minutes... sometimes if there's not enough people signed up they'll even let you go twice..." and i'm like god damn it i thought i was gonna take a break from aubrey but this setup is like tailor made for an aubrey appearance lmao

Age Gap: 9/10

The more differences that add to an unequal power dynamic, the better lol. But i've never specifically looked for fics with an age gap, they just tend to come with the kind of fic where the unequal distribution of power within the ship is the point... I wouldn't click on a fic bc of the age gap tag if that wasn't the point, though.

Codependency: 7/10

I love it when characters are fucked up lol. But i wouldn't want this in a fic that's not about that kind of fucked-upness and toxicity, you know? It’s not cute and I wouldn't want it in e.g. a romantic Barris fic. But it can be excellent in fic about toxic relationships.

I like one-party dependency better than codependency.

Enemies to lovers: 10/10

I started as a Drarry shipper so this is much of what I read for the first couple of years of my fandom life lol. It’s exceedingly delicious to me, so many confliction emotions and characters being in pain from both going back and forth about what they are to each other lol.

Enemies With Benefits: 8/10

I remember having read hate sex fic only once tbh by an incredible writer, so maybe that's also why it was so good, but I wanted so much more of it.

Fake Dating/Relationship: 10/10

This is the good shit! The more pining the better. This is one of my most read tropes.

Found Family: -10/10

I could be into it if they were toxic and/or dysfunctional, but fandom always makes sure to write it in the most off-putting way achievable, where everyone is super sweet and super good at communication and extremely open emotionally and they all cuddle together and have movie nights and shit, and everyone is always completely ooc and a weird stepford wife cardboard cut-out, and it all makes me viscerally uncomfortable. So no I will not be clicking on a fic with this tag. The only exception is Barris fic from people whose writing skills and understanding of the characters I trust/agree with enough that I believe they've not made it disgusting like fandom typically does.

Friends To Lovers: 0/10

Idk, I feel like this is something i don’t notice, because it’s just... a lot of fic, isn't it? I don't think most people even tag it? It doesn't seem particularly interesting nor in any way off putting.

Friends With Benefits: 8/10

Ah yes, the accidental catching of feelings. I do love pining. But I've never seeked out this tag. May i also present fwb where one party actually doesn't have feelings for the other but knows about their feelings, thus essentially using them for sex? There’s a sterek fic where stiles magically exchanges away his feelings for Derek bcz he thinks Derek's never gonna love him, and after they keep having sex with stiles no longer caring about hurting derek and it’s SO GOOD. There’s also one (one of my all time fave fics ever) where stiles is dying or thought to be dying, and he just doesn't want to die a virgin, which derek knows but is ofc in love with stiles and hopes it meant something more, but it didn't, and it's so fucking good.

Love Triangle: nope/10

I'm sick of this in shows, I don't want it in fic too. And I'm a monoshipper to the core, I doubt I'd get any enjoyment out of this.

I'm a helpless sucker for this lol. I'll take both mild possessiveness that can still be considered sweet (and yes I know it’s fucked up irl but you know, fiction) and the very toxic kind, but obviously which one works for me depends on the ship.

Opposites (like grumpy×sunshine, etc): -10/10

I hate the grumpy x sunshine trope with a passion. It's sure to flatten any character into a 2D cardboard cut-out. No one is either/or, where's the fucking nuance. I do like it though when they seem dissimilar on the surface but actually have a lot in common. But I don't think I've seen this as an ao3 tag, anyway?

Poly: -10/10

I'm a monoshipper. I tried to read a sterek poly ship once and actually felt like i was cheating on sterek lol. Yes it’s ridiculous, but i couldn't do it lol. The funny thing is i was in a poly ship for 5 years irl, so you'd think this would be jam!

I can, however, read smut fics where the third party is there for the shag.

Pregnancy: ?/10

Regular preg? Fuck no. Angsty mpreg where the pregnancy makes things a lot harder? Yes. Omegaverse mpreg where omegas have limited or no human rights? Fuck yes x 100 000 000

Second Chance: ?/10

I guess? Depends on the context. Thomas and Richard missing their first chance when they met during a London season when they were both footmen, and meeting again in -27? Would read.

Is this fwb without the friends aspect? Just benefits? Lol. But it sounds good, I'm a sucker for pining.

Slowburn: 10/10

Fuck yes, but only if it's REAL slowburn, as in like a 100k, none of that 4k "slowburn", thanks. I'm a huge sucker for pining, and all the little moments - held breaths, heart jumping bcz of accidental hand touching, and FINALLY The Long Anticipated Kiss tens of thousands of words in? Fuck yes. On the condition, ofc, that it makes sense, but I will take both thinking "he won’t ever love me" as the reason lol.

Soulmates: ?/10

The traditional kind is too fluffy and too centered on just finding "the one" as if that solved all your problems, or as if that was your only problem or indeed mission in life, and I think the concept itself is ridiculous. If things were like that, just about no-one would meet their soulmate bcz there’re billions of people... i've read some out of curiosity, though, and i liked the one where the stiles' soulmark is around his butthole and derek's is at the base of his dick, and to join together as soulmates or something they have to join these marks together lol.

I do, however, like what I call biologically determined soulmates, as in like in omegaverse or werewolf AUs when their pheromones make them extremely attractive to one another (to the exclusion of others, and them just knowing this is it). The woo woo kind of soulmates is too fluffy and too woo woo, but "the most biologically compatible breeding partners" soulmates works for me for some reason, even if they can't have kids bc there’s no mpreg - that doesn’t stop same-sex attraction irl, so why would it in a world where one's partner is largely chosen by pheromones lol. So it depends on the kind we're talking about!

Everything (except the nopes and usually the minuses, too) ofc depends on the ship and all the other tags and the summary and the author, so in the end nearly everything is conditional lol.

Sarah meets Tom in January, outside a very discreet queer pub in New York during Christmas' holidays and they decide to get married in February. Only Slider and a friend of Sarah, Olly? Molly?, are present and when the judge say you can kiss your bride Tom kisses her cheek and thanks her. A week later Sarah is back to school, studying to become a lawyer and taking a minor in art, and Tom is back to his post. They don't wear a ring but they share a black bracelet they chose after they signed all the right documents.

Tom calls her from deployment around the world when he can, Sarah studies and gets her degree and then she passes her bar exam and Tom flies commercial to be there, Slider with him and Olly, Molly?, more happy then ever to see them both. People call her Mrs. Kazansky and Tom has to take her hand in his before she punches someone and their parents too. Everytime Tom hears someone saying Mrs. Kazansky he can't help but straight out his uniform because where his mom is the General follows. But, for once, they aren't talking about his family.

Between a deployment and another they buy a house, big enough to have two bedroom, a study and an art room they make in a garage that's almost always empty, a garden where to host barbecues during the fourth of July and a livingroom with a couch big enough to serve as another bed in case Slider or one of their friends wants to stay for the night. Sarah's room is on the left side of the second floor and Tom's on the right. They're both almost thirty five and their life is better than they would have thought. Sarah works all the cases she wants because she is a very good lawyer that learned a thing or two about stern looks from Tommy and Iceman starts getting promoted so fast they stop throwing a party everytime or they'll spend all the time celebrating. They still have to go around Sarah's house and plays the happy couple, answering questions about babies (that Sarah doesn't want and that Iceman doesn't care abour, at all), about their anniversary (they spend the last one going out to dinner and then to dance because they are allowed to have fun, okay? Two before the last Tom tried to take Sarah up in the sky but she almost fainted after seeing the plane so they end up going out for a hiking and eating icecream for dinner), the sex (that makes Tom red in the face and Sarah giggling because if they only knew) and why don't they kiss in front of other people (Tom is shy).

Once Ron tried to make one of them explain what type of marriage they were in, loveless and sexless?, and Sarah has looked right in his eyes for so long the pasta in his dish has gone cold. This one, she finally says pointing her fork directly at Ice's face, is still in love with Mave-rick drawing rainbows and writing Mr. and Mr. Kazansky-Mitchell on every piece of paper he can find but doesn't talk about it with him because everytime Pete is around he gets stupider than usual and for me? I got to finish my studies, married someone my dad likes, who cares about me and remembers my favourite ice cream without having to remember him every two minutes. 'S strange but good strange.

The food is pretty good too Slider added because Ice's face was red as the tomato sauce, Sarah was laughing and he wouldn't want the night to be ruined by awkward conversation.

Hi yes sometimes (often) I do the thing where you go 'oh!! what if! My universe! Met THIS UNIVERSE!! Gestures at a beloved fic written by someone else' but today/yesterday it was just... crack. Bc I read a lot of serious, very good, nicely thought out fics ripe with character development and strained interpersonal relations but all I write is just... ah yes. They love each other. It's not romantic, go celebrate that elsewhere. They just. Love. The explosion. Love go brr suckers.

Anyway highlights without stealing from others' fics include:

Potter twin idiots one and two apparently don't pack their own meds, but they have e/os bc obviously they'll manage to take their own meds on time but their bro is an idiot who'll forget his.

"Your meatsuit is revolting against your bones."

H "I am many things and against murder is not one of those." C "No one in this family is against murder." H "Kenny's against murder." C "Kenny has a body count?" H "Those were an accident and we don't talk about them."

Harry opens his mouth. "Harry, I don't know what you're thinking but it's obviously cursed so please don't." Harry closes his mouth.

Connor says something obviously Galaxy brain. "Oh wow, we've been here longer than twelve hours, my meds are wearing off."

Look, Theo and Ron could be enemies. They could be rivals. They could compete. But they're both smart enough to realize that they each have one (1) idiot Potter on their hands so they teamed up instead.

Iris, the Harry from another au, (Cobra Lily) plops down beside Hades (NOPC) and Hawthorne (Hyacinth). "Well, obviously foster kids are the best kids."

Hades is a master of smiling brightly and 'oversharing' so the others keep writing him off as an idiot, meanwhile he's using his blood to burn through the floor and see if he can get them through this bs obstacle course.

For the record, Hawthorne is having the time of his life, and Iris is very excited to talk to another human horcrux. They're very rare, you know.

(Sorrel and Charlie, the respective twins, are chilling. Sorrel is still pretending he's not related to Hawthorne. Charlie is supporting his sister's dreams of becoming a dark lady.)

I'd like to again bring up that these idiots don't pack their own meds. "Mm let's see," Connor bends his knee up and starts pulling things out of his boot. "Basilisk venom, atomoxetine, a knife, a hair tie, where the heck is my adderall?" Meanwhile, Hades pulls out a bottle of adderall, snacks, a human femur, nail polish, a vial of blood, three knives, a flashlight, more snacks, etc.

Yes. Infinitely yes. Every unfinished fic I have. Every idea. I wish someone else would just pluck the ideas from my head and write them for me.

O: How do you begin a story–with the plot, or the characters?

I think more often than not, my stories start with dialogue that launches right into the plot- if there is a plot.

I'm guessing a gardener bc I do not plan my fics at all beyond the initial idea(s) that inspired them

Yes! I answered this for a guilty pleasure trope question above pretty much. Major character death makes for interesting fic for me and there was a time early in the Miraculous fandom where I read every single listed MCD fic on AO3. Characters whose deaths I can't tolerate....... probably Alya. Reading fics where she dies were always the most difficult for me.

i have been on an ml fic binge the past several weeks bc i finally caught up with season 4 of miraculous so they're all ml (adrienette) fics ajdsdjsdks:

5. What are your fanfic pet peeves? Do they have a huge effect on whether or not you decide to read something?

if a fic has no paragraph breaks, i cannot read it. and hey, i was guilty of it too when i was in middle school, but it's a dealbreaker for me 😂 also commas. if a fic has too many OR not enough commas, i probably won't be able to read it. and i can be a bit picky with characterization? but that depends on the fandom, the story's context, what character we're even talking about, etc. etc.

6. How do you find new fic to read? Where do you primarily read fanfiction?

i get recs from friends, i read my friends' works, i literally just go to ao3 and read from the most recently posted fic, and occasionally i sort by kudos. i primarily read fanfic on ao3!

11. How do you come up with your fic titles?

song lyrics, a significant motif/line/etc. in the fic, occasionally im inspired by quotes i hear or read, and sometimes im just like "this sounds cool, that'll do" 😂

14. Do you have a personal word minimum that you hold yourself too? Why or why not?

i used to not like having fics shorter than 1k, but i have since matured and realized that a fic is only as long as it needs to be. sometimes that means im encapsulating a small moment in only a few hundred words, and that's a-okay! 😌

23. What’s your absolute favorite trope to write?

ooh, good question 🤔 honestly i just love emotional hurt/comfort, which isn't really a trope, per se, but it's the closest to one i can provide for this question 😂 a lot of my fics involve some aspect of a character study, so i think my enjoyment of emotional hurt/comfort makes sense adkjsdsks

“You can meet my husband, actually,” Allison corrected herself with a wide grin, turning around to extend introductions. “Sharona, Mr. Monk, this is my husband, Joe. Joe, this is Adrian Monk and Sharona Fleming.”

“I have heard great things about the both of you from Allison,” Joe said, shaking Sharona’s hand and then Monk’s. “She says that without you two on the case…” He trailed off, brow furrowing as Monk snapped for a wipe.

“Don’t worry, he has a thing about germs,” Sharona reassured Joe as she handed Monk a towelette from a fresh pack in her purse. “He’s like this with everyone.”

“It’s true, I am,” Monk said, wiping his hands. Sharona dropped the wipe back into her purse when he was done.

There was a momentary pause, but Joe shook off his confusion and picked up where he left off. “Allison tells me your help has been instrumental with the current case.”

“Well, I wouldn’t say we—” Monk was interrupted by a snicker from Sharona, who waved her hand apologetically when he frowned at her.

“Sorry, sorry. I just”—she snickered again—“instrumental. Y’know, they’re all musicians?”

C - A ship you've never liked and probably never will: there are many. Many. But I'm gonna go with Kleist/A.Humboldt because you wanted salt and I have a lot of it. No shade to the people who do ship them, but their storyline in EKM was so poorly set up and so awfully executed, I couldn't even enjoy the 'canon' gays (canon in quotation marks bc EKM is technically a fan work and history our canon). They're all over the schoethe fandom and I just don't vibe with them.

D - A pairing you wish you liked but just can't: See C above. Also like 80% of F/F ships in general. I really wish I was properly into something that doesn't involve just a bunch of cis guys but I just can't seem to get invested enough to write about women. There's a bigger rant here but that'd explode the post. I like a bunch of f/f ships but I don't get absorbed properly and I wish that was different.

H - Has tumblr made me stop liking any fandoms? If so, which and why? No, not really. I've had to block some tags for fandoms I'm not interested in but I've never stopped liking something because of tumblr.

I like art!! Quite a bit!! Less of a realistic artist and more of a cartoonist!! Idk there's just something fun abt drawing cartoons, hehe. I also like self ships - I have quite a bit of them, actually ! Idk its comforting drawings your fictional crushes loving you idkidk. I like writing too! Both original stories, and one-shots or personal fics that are associated with already created media!! Writing character backstories and personalities and stuff is also fun too! I've even made my own fictional world with a full fledged backstory n everything! It's very fun to think about. I'm a day dreamer!!! Yea remember when I said I write stories? I day dream abt potential stories even more. Mmm daydream world so nice so warm so fun I read aswell!! Mostly fantasy books, or stories where animals are the protagonists. Think Warrior Cats. But my favorite book series has got to be Guardians of Ga'Hoole. Fantasy owl books, anyway! X Readers are also things I enjoy reading :) Again, s I m p Also gaming!!! Is something fun I do sometimes!!! Although it's usually Genshin Impact, or Wii Sports/Resort w// my little sister. Oh, also pokemon! I rlly like Primarina, Vaporeon, Sylveon and Vulpix/Ninetails! I absolutely adore sweet foods, and baking is smthn I'm def interested in! Don't like foods w// weird textures though, like beans or mashed potatoes. Also I. Love spice so much. Mmm love it when my mouth burns so bad. Don't have a favorite animal but I've had three cats in my lifetime (btw not important but my current cat is named Sylvester and. He's my baby boy) so I am. A very big cat fan. Probably not needed but I really like sword and claymore characters. Literally all of the characters I main are either sword or claymore users. Ooh… ooooooooh this one is hard (do I remember everything I’ve ever written? absolutely not, I write it so I don’t have to remember it anymore lol….)

I’m really absurdly proud of the imaginary pirates kidfic I wrote and my favourite part of that was right at the end.

A hand leapt from the ocean and grabbed at Alan’s leg,dragging him down into the deep.

“Sea monster,” he wailed and Gordon leapt into action.

But the sea monster had many limbs and could reach aroundthe other side of the ship, and Gordon felt himself grabbed from behind andswung into the air. He shrieked and fell into Scott’s arms, laughing andgiggling and squirming away from his brother who was hitting every ticklish spoton Gordon’s body.

I just think it was cute :D And I liked making the comparison between a sea monster and a tickle monster xD

24. Favourite genre to write and read

For fiction, adventure stories are my favourite to read - often with a smidge of scifi and fantasy, but not always! I grew up on Enid Blyton and very little else so the Famous Five style of adventures are definite favourites! A little harder to find in adult fiction in my experience - 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is a BIG fave of mine. Speculative fiction is another fave (which I’m pretty sure is just a subset of scifi lol) But honestly I read more non fiction books than anything else, a lot of popsci and reference books - I was that child reading the encyclopedia at morning tea xD

In terms of fanfiction I’m really just here for the family feels and wacky shenanigans :D Romance reading is like the ultimate in escapism and I love that too when done well! I like a some whump for the hurt/comfort aspect but I scare easy at gore even when it’s not explicit due to general squeamishness and bad life experiences. I get stressed reading about volcanoes and earthquakes bc well where I live, they’re very real threats even if they’re not urgent, so I’ll tread carefully when I know that’s involved. Anyway I’m living for the soft, comforting tenderness that fanfic tends to excel at :D

Writing - I write what I want to read. Minor whump, hurt/comfort (prefer writing emotional h/c for the reasons above), family relationships and dipping my toes into some romance :D I also love finding ways to incorporate some science into my fics, just bc I’m science obsessed and I like it when my two fave things can mesh together!!

30. Favourite idea you haven’t started on OKAY!!

I don’t tend to sit on my ideas for long but have one I came up with the other day when chatting about recorder stuff with Nutty - a Pied Piper AU.

Hear me out, The Pied Piper (aka The Hood) does the Tracy family a favour and through some mechanism, he doesn’t think they meet their end of the bargain (this wouldn’t be as straightfoward as they just didn’t pay… there would be nefarious goings on), and so anyhow he hypnotises/charms Gordon and Alan and spirits them away, and he tries to spirit away John, but it doesn’t work for some reason, I need to figure out the mechanism of charming, I’m kinda toying with the idea that John’s deaf in this AU so he can’t hear the Hood’s call (like that child with the crippled legs who couldn’t follow the Piper in the original tale?), and anyway then Scott, Virgil and John go off to save the boys.

I’ve been having fun turning that one about in my mind, but I’m not sure if it’s something I’ll ever do more than play with - we shall see!

C:  How did you come up with the title to [insert fic]?

Since the fic wasn't specified, I'll answer for Hold the Line bc i feel like it doesn't get a lot of attention. I'm 99% sure this is because of the Toto song, Hold the Line. I think the line "hold the line, love isn't always on time" is what caught my attention. I think it fit for this semi-reconciliation between Crosshair and the bad batch.

H: How would you describe your writing style?

Succint is my first word I'd use. Like, definitely not always, but I feel like I don't take the scenic route a lot. Emotion-centric, for sure. More character, less plot-- usually, though I can actually do plot when I spend more than one sit-down on a fic.

K:  Do you have a guilty pleasures in fic (reading or writing)?

Guilty? No. I indulge in fluff and silly fics as I please. At least for reading. For writing, my modern AUs are def my guilty pleasure bc that way I can forget some of the lore that goes into writing an in-universe fic lolll. I didn't think many people would like them, and even though they actually get quite a bit of attention, I still go through A Moment (or two) where I feel bad for not having a lore filled fic.

But i enjoy them so i'm not gonna stop

I want to be connected to people so badly right now but I know I am an absolute fucking mess and one minute I'm zoning out slack jawed like a dope and the next I'm screaming about something that's triggered me and the next I'm crying, like I'm super not fun to be around but wow ~mental health awareness~ am I right? This is when we need support the most. Just at our own pace I guess.

I went grocery shopping with headphones in for the first time ever and it helped a lot. I was legit scared I was going to snap and fight someone or have a panic attack so the music was a good distraction. I'm usually not okay with having my hearing blocked out bc of hypervigilance, but I had to. I slept with ear plugs in the other night too.

I'm gonna put a call in to my med doc and ask if we can up something or add something for now bc I am in desperate need of help re regulating and my environment and the world is T o o M u c h to do it without a boost. I'm fuxking pissed and very wary, but I cant be like this, I just cant. I'm a train screaming off the tracks and its terrifying to see where I'm heading.

I thought about something on the way home but I'll have to flesh it out more later. Something about running the gauntlet. About being stuck in groundhog day. Hopefully I'll see this again tomorrow and remember.
