#DisabilitySummit | As my hero Cindy Gallop best said: “Shared Values + Shared Action = Shared Profit.” • • • • • • Day 2 of 2 of #Disability #Innovation #Summit at HERE EAST yesterday was amazing! Here’s club from their website about the event: “Technology is shifting the disability landscape. Advancements in prosthetics, wheelchairs, wearable tech and bionics are changing the lives of disabled people, but we’re just at the beginning of the story. We know there is a huge potential for science, engineering, computing, robotics, sport and art to come together, to share knowledge and push the boundaries of design. The GDI Hubs first Summit is being held in London during the IPC's 2017 Para Athletics Championships. Join us and help shape the future. The Summit will cover the following areas: The latest technologies and research, Disability dance, fashion and art, Global projects and innovations, Assistive technology, Built environment and inclusive design, Sport and community, and Workplace and corporates. You'll hear from leading innovators, academics and athletes as we bring together disabled and non-disabled experts to shape the future through collaboration and co-design.” • • • • • • It was an insightful, educational and entertaining day! Personally, my speaker and workshop/discussion highlights of day 2 were: *the Personalisation of assistive technology workshop with Dr Dafne Zuleima Morgado Ramirez (Research associate, UCLIC, University College London), Graham Race (Meru at Queen Elizabeth's Foundation for Disabled People), Roxana Ramirez (UCLIC, University College London) + Nelson Noll (RSA #HackOnWheels award winner, Central Saint Martins) AND *the Future of technology for disability discussion with Dr Dafne Zuleima Morgado Ramirez (Research associate, UCLIC, University College London), Dr Tim Adlem (Senior Research Engineer and Head of Mechanical Engineering, Designability), Siobhan Strike (Roehampton University, Deputy Head of Department of Life Sciences); as well as the following speakers: Sarah Lewis (Royal Town Planning Institute), Jennifer Poage (London college of fashion), Fredrick Ouko (Entrepreneur) and Samantha Tadlow (Think Big, Social Enterprise). I also loved the following speakers: David Constantine (Motivation), Mohan Sundaram (Artilab), Ariam Mogos (UNICEF), Michael Vermeersch (Digital Inclusion Lead, Microsoft), and Irving Caplan (ASPIRE CREATe, Hon Senior Research Associate). My mind = 🎉! • • • • • • A big thanks to my incredible, very good friend Rosemary (GDI Hub and Campaigns Manager, Global Disability Innovation Hub) for the invite too. Another awesome day with awesome people sharing awesome ideas. I am very much looking forward to working with the Global Disability Innovation Hub and all the wonderful attendees from across the world to make a positive difference to the lives of people who happen to be disabled through co-design, collaboration and innovation too.
