@hakutines Sorry my theme couldn’t fit on a post card format.  This Hakutine is dedicated to my OC, Night, who’s a westerner scholar and artist. Adapting to Edo Japan customs isn’t easy on a carefree and independent women. Her travels lead her to cross paths with an Oni she couldn’t shake off her heart. This captured a moment of her life in Japan, writing a note in a language alien to its inhabitants.  “These eyes I can’t stare into as it is considered defiance. His full name I can’t pronounce as it is not allowed.  Those endearment words I can not use as it is not custom here.  I will not let both our culture become a wall between us.  Oh, AmagiriSama, let’s open a path between each other’s heart.”

Ochi-chan,

The brilliance of your red hue is not lost on me, for it is the sole color that fuels my everyday. Long have I toiled for your favor and since earning it, I have worked tirelessly in search of your fondness to grace my lips once more. Though it is your love that has made a monster of me, I have always considered myself to be something less than a man to begin with.

For it is us both who plays the villain in this production, while we are two victims of a cruel fate, allowed to exist only under the others of another.

I value you. For you have given me a purpose in life. And it is the understanding that perfection is still yet attainable that drives us both to wits end. In search of you- true beauty in a bottle- I strive. You have healed not only my arm, but my crippled pride as well.

And for this, I owe you my love, my pride, and my life.

Happy Valentine's Day! I know Matsumoto-sensei said you have to eat healthy, but I think you should have a little konpeito on this special day. Please, enjoy it. I also wanted to say, your strength amazes me. Every day, I hope for your laughter and pray for your smile. I am glad you have allowed me to remain by your side. I care for you so much. Please, don't consider yourself a burden to me. I want to ease your struggles in any way I can. I like you, a great deal, Okita-san. Your hugs reassure me. I feel so at ease with you now. I don't know where I'd be without you. You've become so important to me. Please, stay with me longer. Don't rush off to another battle just yet. Please allow me to rest by your side and nurse you to health. I want to see you strong again.

Here’s my contribution to Hakutine’s Day. @hakutines

I’m not skilled enough to be able to do any drawing so instead I wrote a letter for Sannan. I still wanted it to look pretty like a valentine though, so this what I ended up with. Just in case it’s hard to read in the picture, I’m including the full text of the letter below.

Dear Sannan-san,

As you read this letter, I hope that you are having a good day, though perhaps wishing for you to have a good evening may be more appropriate given the schedule you are likely to keep.

I realize that on Valentine’s Day it is customary for women to give chocolate to men that they have feelings for, but I didn’t know what sort of chocolates (if any) you would enjoy. Instead I hope that this letter will be a suitable substitute for them.  

Above all the other Shinsengumi you are the person who has most intensely caught my interest and attention. Since the beginning I have found the strength of your devotion to the Shinsengumi admirable, and I particularly respect your efforts at caring for the Rasetsu under your command, as I’m sure it’s not an easy task. I have heard that there are some people who perceive you as being intimidating or scary but I think you seem to be a very kind and gentle person, whose concern for others extends to all who are around you. You are also very intelligent, which is probably your most attractive quality, though you are also quite handsome as well.

If I have managed to gain your favor and affection in return I would appreciate getting to know you better and learning more about you. Perhaps you could begin by letting me know what sort of chocolate or other treat you enjoy so that I could have it for you when we meet? If you wanted it even blood would be all right, …I think.

♡ Hakutines 2019! ♡

Valentine’s day is coming up, and you all know what that means! It’s time to spread the love!

February 14th, 2019 is just over the horizon and we’ve planned a one-day event for you all in the Hakuouki community in which you (the participant), your OC, or your favorite character can send a letter or a postcard to a Hakuouki character of your choice!

To those who enjoy writing:

No minimum limit, but please keep it under 2.5k words

You are free to write poems, letters, whatever your heart desires!  

To those who love creating art:

Please use canvases with a 5:3 ratio so as to stick to postcard proportions for the theme! For example, 500px by 300px or even 1250px by 750px!

And to those who’d like to do them both:

Please feel free to upload a postcard to your favorite character complete with a love letter, as long as it follows the guidelines above!

Just send us an ask or a message for clarification and we’ll get right to answering you! Please don’t be shy- we don’t bite! 

Pick up those pens and pencils all you lovestruck lovelies and pour your hearts on your paper! February 14th is coming quick!

I wasn't planning on doing this, but Happy Valentine's Day. You can be so much to handle, always running about helping others and inserting yourself into situations way out of your depth. Still, just on this little card, I admire you for it. I feel calmer with you beside me. Your positivity is annoyingly infectious. I strive to be as strong as you. Don't leave my side. You've taken good care of me after I got sick. I want to take care of you, too. Let's protect each other more in the future. I... I care about you. But, if you tell anyone this, I might have to kill you. Stay cute and keep blushing for me.

Miss Yukimura,

I am aware that it is highly uncouth of my to express my feelings through nothing but ink and parchment, but I hope you will understand them all the same.

There are times in which I have been trampled over and wounded by the injustices of wanting peace in a cruel world, but with your care and kind guidance, I am glad to have chosen this path for myself. I have resolved myself to my fate and have decided to join forces with the Shinsengumi in the coming Spring, for peace cannot be brokered with promises of peace and instead must be fought for and won. Mere words could not communicate the depth of an action, also the source of my regrets in sending you a letter rather than admitting something of this nature to your face.

Miss Yukimura. I cannot hope to capture the beauty of you in a sentence. The bouquet I offered to you all those months ago was a token of my affections, though each flower- I painfully admit- were indeed chosen as a result of their medicinal purposes. I had hoped you would be able to make use of them in your duties, and though my underlying sentiments had gone unacknowledged, I was glad to have helped you in some way or another.

I hope to see you safe when you and the rest of the Shinsengumi return.

I hope that you succeed in your quest to find your father.

And although it may seem rather selfish, it is my hope that I will be able to see the passion and determination that burns in your eyes once again, for it is you who gives me strength.

Takeda-kun,

While I thank the gods for your rational head, I curse them for granting you something as foul as your personality in the same breath. I do not entirely mean to demean you, good sir, but rather provide a basis for you to improve yourself upon. Should you not take to kindly to these words that are from a humble stranger, then I advise you to simply hear the words of others around you.

You indeed are of a handsome breed, with hair fuller and thicker than the flavors of European wine. This I do not deny, but instead, would rather openly admit. I find you wholly attractive in all parts, minus that of, once again, that rotten personality.

Takeda-kun, you are a figure worth admiring, for certain. Your perseverance in climbing the ranks and building an honorable name for the Takeda is a feat and challenge alike, and I do love you for your tenacity as well.

Though it is my full faith and hope that you learn to see beyond the scope of your own ego, I must admit that I do harbor feelings for you before all else. I pray that this letter be delivered safely to you and that you take the well meaning intentions of this letter to heart. I would like to see you change and bloom into someone beautiful, both outside and within.

Dearest Ri-kun,

Your campaign surely is dragging on- even though there’s only been two sunsets since you’ve left. I miss you so much already!

How is Souma fairing in your care? Please don’t rough up my only brother too badly, even though I know he’ll be safe in your care. He’s been dreaming for the opportunity to prove himself even before I met you, my love. Speaking of having met you, can you believe that it’s only been six months since the day we met? I was so alight with embarrassment at having been mistaken for my brother, but your face was easily a harsher red than my own.

You were so cute that I (and even grandfather too) couldn’t help but laugh, even after you’d passed out from the shock of finding out I was a lady! I tease of course, but my lovey-dovey sentiment (as Yuzu calls it, looking over my shoulder with nothing but distaste for what she calls “sappiness to rival my sweets”) remains all the same. Mornings in the shop seem so dull and lonely without my sun there to brighten the day. Bird songs, too, are hollow without the chirping of your sweet and sunny voice. Two sunrises and sunsets without you by me is enough to make me feel like there is only gray in the world, and I dearly miss the color that you bring into my waking life. These past two nights, I’ve looked to the long horizon, dreaming of your swift return.

I want to make many more memories by your side, Ri-kun, so you’d better come back safe!

Or at the very least, I just wish I could have come with the rest of you.
