The Irish Princess and her dynastic marriage to a Norman that helped shape Europe. Aoife, Princess of Leinster -> Catherine, The Princess of Wales. The Princess of Wales is Aoife, Princess of Leinster and Richard de Clare, Earl of Pembroke 26th Great-Granddaughter  via her paternal grandfather’s line.
** Aoife or Eva, Princess of Leinster, played a pivotal role in the history of Ireland and the Norman expansion. She was the daughter of Diarmaid MacMurrough, King of Leinster, who sought the help of the Normans to secure his throne and defeat his enemies. As part of this alliance, Aoife married the Norman leader Richard de Clare, known as ‘Strongbow,’ on 25 August 1170. This marriage marked the arrival of the Normans in Ireland, just 104 years after their conquest of England by William the Conqueror.
Through their daughter, Isabelle de Clare, The 4th Countess of Pembroke, the union of Aoife and Strongbow forged a lineage that would shape the future of European nobility. Isabelle became an ancestor of nearly every reigning monarch across Europe. Within a few generations, her descendants included much of the European aristocracy, including all the Kings of Scotland since Robert the Bruce (1274–1329) and every monarch of England, Great Britain, and the United Kingdom since Henry IV (1367–1413).

#1102: in Halesworth, Suffolk, there's a level crossing over the railway that's also a platform! half of each platform is on rollers, and splits in two and rotates inwards (over the track) to form a gap either side of the rail line, opening the road. each of the four 70-tonne moving sections of platform had to be moved manually, on simple but efficient rollers, which took a while. when trains came by too close together to have time to fully open the platforms, smaller sections of platform could be more quickly opened for pedestrians. there's an electronic model of the mechanism in the station.
as the railways in britain grew rapidly, the station in Halesworth, a small town in Suffolk, became insufficient for the increasingly longer trains. unlike most other places where this was the case, they didn't have the space either side of the platform to expand the platform, because of a road one way and warehouses belonging to the railway the other way. the platform is now grade II listed because of its uniqueness.
it stopped operating in the 50s when an increase in cars warranted a larger road and a bridge shortly up the line. you can see where a road goes up to the line and peters out [highlighted], and the platform and mechanism still remain today.

NEWSLETTER FEBRUARY 2024
Hello all,
Hope all is well with everyone, despite all the nasty illnesses going round, that I had a piece of too. It's been a little while since the last newsletter, here in brief is the latest news and details of some forthcoming shows.
AWARD NOMINATION
For the fourth year running, I've been nominated in the UK Blues Awards, this time in the new category of Traditional Blues Artist of the Year. It would be great if you could spare the time to vote for me, it doesn't take long. For your vote to count, you have to vote in at least 5 categories. I'm aware that many people who like and follow what I do may not be hugely knowledgeable of the UK Blues world, so by way of help with that I can point out festivals I've played (Swanage and Upton), venues I've done gigs at (100 Club Tuesday Blues, Tuesday Night Music Club, Temperance), shows I've been on (Cerys Matthews, Gary Grainger, Richard Dunning, Paul Long), and artists I know personally (Acoustic, Trevor Steger). It would be great to get enough votes so please do also share this link for voting with anyone you know who might also vote (voting closes on Sunday 25th February):

NEW ALBUM
Called Fools & Clowns, this will be out pretty soon, the last of the behind the scenes preparation is currently going on. It'll be available for pre-order before long, and at gigs too.
We're really pleased with it, and it's a bit of a departure from what we've done before, building on our style to produce a slightly different set of sounds. The songs are all newly written originals, with a range of subject matter that you don't normally come across in songs (as usual). It's unmistakeably us, and hopefully it'll have you smiling, thinking and dancing! More information soon, including ordering link.

DATES
Lots of shows in great venues coming up. We're out there doing something new and original, with recognisable elements of the classic music of the past. If you loved the great artists of the golden period decades ago, you'll like what we do too and recognise it as something that may well have fitted in well back then. And it really is new, with songs about life as people live it today, and stories you won't have heard before, all delivered with totally individual musicianship. Do come to shows and do spread the word to anyone you feel will like what we do.
Details are also here:

15-7 Haskerton
Mijn voorgevoel gisteren was juist.
Daar hangt weer een briefje op de achterdeur: ring the bell, use the knocker, open the door and shout!
Nou zeg ik, eerst even douchen.

Ready to Comply: Pt2 of Reapers Fall Simon Riley x Fem!Reader
Flashes of moments. Flashes of moments you couldn’t recognize or understand. Something loud going off, things falling. The feeling of heat, and then nothing. Waking up to a blinding light, blurry faces standing over you, a cold sensation spreading through you. Then it was burning, like your body was on fire. You couldn’t move as you screamed your voice hoarse. In and out of consciousness, all you felt was pain and confusion.
Starless Lovers Drabble Sato kom Trikru x Fem!Reader, Bellamy Blake xFem! Reader
"Sato." You looked up, glancing over at where Bellamy stood, seeing him already looking down at you, his jaw clenched. "Who- who was he to you?" You sighed, smiling softly as you turned, laying your head on top of your arms that were wrapped around your legs. "Sato was- he was a flame. Burning and deadly. He was my protector, and he was my- he was mine. Maybe in another world, another life, we were meant for a happy ending. But not here, not this time."
The Wolfs Revenge pt2 Uhtred x Fem!Reader
“She wears her lover’s mask, concealing her identity. Those who have seen her face, have not lived to see another day.” One of the men scoffed, shaking his head. “She’s on a quest for revenge, something she’s already done. She brings shame to her lover’s name. She is not this great warrior you proclaim her to be.” The man turned, glaring as he shook his head, scoffing. “She’s a greater warrior than you will ever be Halesworth.”
Untitled Bingo Series Steve Rogers x Fem!Reader
“What?” “You got caught by Tony. Didn’t you call him a big brained idiot?” “Yes.” “And he’s the one who managed to capture you.” “Well, you certainly weren’t going to be the one to bring me in.” She grinned, tilting her head to the side. “You’ve been trying for how long now?”

Collection of wild bird eggs seized by Halesworth police#Collection #wild #bird #eggs #seized #Halesworth #police
A large egg collection containing rare bird of prey species such as hen harrier and osprey has been seized by police. Suffolk Police said the haul was found in the Halesworth area on Friday. It said it was an “eggcellent result” from its rural, wildlife and heritage policing team “albeit a shame to see such a large collection”. All wild birds, their eggs, nests and chicks, are protected under the…
