NAACP Membership renewed after decades.
Street Money Donations Massachusetts General Hospital Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Boston Public Library NAACP
Had a fantastic time at Boston's Veg Food Fest. I sampled Jack Fruit and Kombucha for the first time. I saw the Reggie Lewis Indoor Track. Go Vegetarian or Vegan.
I purchased so far two 2024 Paris Olympics Athletics Event tickets to watch my race 200m and other sprint events. I made 1 out of 3 hotel reservations for Paris, France. I am awaiting the results from my volunteer application. I also sent my resume for employment, but got rejected probably because I do not have a legal right to work there.
I received my Federal Government tax refund and bought my Comfort+ AirFrance plane ticket from Boston, Massachusetts to Paris, France. I researched registration with the United States Embassy in France.
I had my reservations booked well in advance for South Carolina State University homecoming in Orangeburg, South Carolina with lodging at Fairfield Inn and Suites in Santee, South Carolina, and car with Enterprise. I also was able to reserve a spot with Bulldogs on the Run.
Had an unexpected good time running into the 15th Anniversary of Boston Book Fair. I did not purchase any books, but it felt good being amongst all types of writers and readers.
I got PUBLISHED in my first peer-reviewed academic journal. Journal of Business, Economics, and Technology, Spring 2023, Volume 26, Number 1.
I got my certification in AFAA Kickboxing.
Applause To McDonald's McRewards on National Cheeseburger Day. I have not had a double cheeseburger in decades. It was for $0.50. I had to cheat. Congratulations to McDonald's for the store traffic today – everyone in the house, kids, teens, young adults, adults, seniors – whew.
My Old Self - Office Work or White Collar positions still alive and well. Just have to pay upfront to return to the past and we interdependently agree on our terms. Welcome to the headquarters of Collins Incorporated.
Fall, Winter, Spring Season sessions are in. I told you Life's A Party. Here is one beginning. For in-person class, be in my geographical area. For virtual class, just have Zoom, FaceBook, or YouTube. I had my first Zumba class in September 2023 and had my second Zumba class in October.
I renewed my NASM AFAA certification for another two years so the expiration is 12/16/2025.
I signed up for subscriptions or accounts and email newsletters of Life Fitness, Rogue Fitness, Spinning, Think With Google, Microsoft Advertising, and Google Ads, etc.
I realize Apple drops the backups of iPhone and iPod Touch after a certain period of time.
United States Department of Navy and United States Department of Justice got my tort claim forms and responded. However, due to the span of time, they told me to file in federal court to sue. I already did that long time ago. I sent them the copy of one case for review. However, just like before no accountability about the harm done to me.
I left Beacon Hill Athletic Clubs and joined GymIt. GymIt is a healthworks brand of gym. I only have one location and reduced workout to 90 minutes with the annual membership; however, I still have Planet Fitness 2,000+ locations. I rented to storage lockers at GymIt, which are half the size and space of Beacon Hill Athletic Clubs.
I am filling out plenty of surveys with Google Rewards, Massachusetts General Hospital, AllofUs Research, Boston Medical Center, McDonald's, CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, TruHearing, BlueCross BlueShield, etc.
I have a job offer, but do not have job offer with New York Sports Club. We are onboarding, but with plenty of hiccups.
I lost USB number two so I purchased two as a replacement along with the use of Google Drive.
I researched for the Massachusetts License to Carry a gun application and the requirements.
I did my first letters of presentment to the City of Boston and Commonwealth of Massachusetts regarding SplitSpot and Pine Street Inn.
Urbanity Dance and I were arguing it out regarding rental room reservations, but life for some odd reason did not want me to make it for my appointment. Boston Dance Studio accommodated my Zumba classes and they are uploaded on zumba. com.
I did my first letter of demand to Progressive in regards to me being hit by an SUV.
Some of the apartment complexes I applied to and on the waiting list requested updates.
I submitted my returns of service and service of process on four (4) out of five (5) cases before my personal vacation to South Carolina.
I am frustrated that the BlueCross BlueShield Medicare Advantage HMO plan is not a dental plan nor have dental benefits.
I received my Social Law Library membership invoice for the next year. I need the membership, but it is not in my budget currently.
I subscribed to Apple Storage Plan, Google One Storage Plan, YouTube Music, Google Nest Home plan, AT&T ActiveArmor
CVS Pharmacy knows how to move products with 15%, 20%, 25%, 30%, and 40% off products. They had me in the store for every coupon.
I tried traditional marketing of my Zumba classes in a variety of places.
I retrieved Washington, DC Chamber of Commerce and Boston Chamber of Commerce applications for possible future use of networking.
Extra Space Storage took over Life Storage so I had a higher bill and loss of amenities, such as the restroom and business conference room. I have to punch in everytime to enter the building. The registration with the app was painless. The customer service was good to honor previous monthly payment before rent increase.
I got an unexpected message from Massachusetts General Brigham Biobank after two years from the blood donation for research.
I attended some French Library events, such as the online conversation club.
I kept applying for new jobs with Massachusetts Careers when they roll out new opportunities. At least the notifications are relevant, such as Chief, Director, and leadership positions.
My 9A Packet with the Collins vs Federal Express was denied. Thus, the reason for the Rule 9A teaching moment from the Massachusetts attorneys.
I ordered a new Nike pair of shoes around my budget of $50. Yes, the Revolution 6 is very comfortable and squeaks every time I make a step.
Federal Express Print and Go function works really well, but I had to go to Office Depot for my production and large print jobs. It came out well from Office Depot. I had 110 pages of Collins vs Pine Street Inn case times 10 copies.
I launched my small business, Collins Incorporated and Manley Collins Health and Fitness Club, websites and new way of doing business. My target audience is the shop and go without a membership subscription, but still adhere to membership policies for repeat customers and visitors.
I attended Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission OFCCP Job Fair. MRC provided transportation and food to and from the event for disabled persons.
Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance ended my SNAP after full synchronization of my income behind the scenes. However, after a month, I applied for an appeal. I went to my first DTA hearing. It was my first time attending an in-person visit to a physical DTA office in Nubian Square. I went early to ensure I meet the hearing officer on time.
Eric Jerome Dickey's Waking with Enemies was filling the gaps of other books. The end of this book was the most captivating because when death comes in either shape or form, and depending on the person it is done too. It changes the perspective and life of the person who did it. This is definitely a climatic and funny scenario of tough guy talk, and not backing it up, and not checking to see the targets are dead, and death comes biting the tough guy in the butt. I am that leave-no-trace-of-evidence guy - clean up is slow or fast and at my pace. Gideon, the main character, you better work and train the next generation. My current example: SplitSpot - 228 Washington St, Brighton, MA - clean the entire house out - it took me a week, but it was cleant - we are still fighting over a foreclosed house not mine and my small room eviction, and probably disrupting the company's headquarters and foreign investor money laundering systems. Wrong type of company (SplitSpot, Bungalow, or June Homes) capitalizing on other people misfortunes of homeownership.
I am going to take a break from the alternative knowledge of books to focus on my group fitness classes.
Eric Jerome Dickey's Before We Were Wicked was really good reflection on positive versus negative in relationships. Every woman and all Africans, the Islands, and Asian Indian need to read or listen to this book. If you are the color of me lighter or darker, then think people of opposite color going to treat any different than those of the same DNA gene, skin tone, pool in the United States of America. Reality check is coming if you have not experienced it like me. Ken Swift is my dawg, my N-word, and favorite character. Women in any culture that are a Jimi Lee-type stay away from me because it reminds me so much of my ex-girlfriend. Jimi Lee-type women do not figure the consequences of death in trying to negotiate an assassin's or shark's business. Let Africans, the Islands, and Asian Indians run around thinking they are white in the USA, when groups like the KKK and white supremacy run around, and I want to physically see the consequence of the African, the Islands, or Asian Indian. Colorism is real in the United States of America, which is you black, brown, or white. Another note, families think they are better families than other families because of a child. Glad I woke up and understood the war. Let any of my exes or even his/her exes bring that war to my door.
Eric Jerome Dickey's Decadence provided me knowledge about Atlanta, Georgia that I did not realize I missed. Who has been to Trapeze Atlanta, Decadence, Rooftop 866? Wow, my opportunities were missed, and I would love to meet freaky women that can come close to the characters in this book and book 'Pleasure'. Is that too much wishful thinking? The brutal truth in honesty when asking about people's relationship history.
It is hilarious on the decision on whether or what choices to change the FaceBook status for relationships. I am wondering if my last ex-girlfriend took a course in oral sex to give me the best blowjob before leaving the relationship. Getting the explanation of sexual science is so helpful for things I did not notice about the other partner or myself. This book of eroticism is ablaze and millions of fire or fireworks emojis. I wonder who I will run into in such places.
Women do have a time period to make babies. Men can make babies all the way in the age of 80s and 90s. This is a good book on how exes from teenagers or college when someone does wrong and expects to be justified for being wrong, and things get uglier on reunions or reuniting because of the wrong choice. "Fornication Under Consent of the King." "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge." I am loving these history terms of where words came from. I knew all the sexual options between female and male ("heterosexuals") were not totally crazy, but it is the spouse or partner's level of acceptance.
Wow…unbelievable for hopeless romantics holding out for that one to change their lives. Marriage is a serious business built on many wanted and unwanted factors. If you want to see my skeletons and bodies, then I want to see your skeletons and bodies. At this stage of life, no such thing as a Virgin Mary or Virgin Joseph. If you are claiming to be a virgin, let's go to a gynecologist, proctologist, and/or urologist. I was not wrong in thinking of prenuptial and postnuptial agreement even when neither party is wealthy. Men do not realize women have been empowered to want equal access to everything, become independent and forward thinkers, and believe they can do life without us. The backhanded trash comes out so later in life for everything that was not mentioned during high school and college. Nia Simone Beju is one good character. The truth spared no feelings. End of the day or the moment of opportunity comes reconciliation and closure…and physical separation forever (connected only by text, email or social media for some, and no communication for others) at least for my end. Hate is what people have when it is something or someone (like me) they cannot control. Glad I got to know all my living siblings from all my daddies, mother, and fathers.
Race (2016) film about Jesse Owens was good and touched all the areas of life surrounding his life, family, and handling situations. It shows the realization when to capitalize on opportunities benefitting not only you, but the organizations as a whole because sports never sees color while people or humans make it an issue. I still love my sport, track and field. Eric Jerome Dickey's Pleasure made me reflect back on my sexual situations using sex as a way to resolve conflict. This was one heck of a story with twins, a wife, and the side chicks. Sometimes I do not realize the pains from other people when they come to me to find resolve when nothing about resolution comes to my mind. At this point in my life, sex is a task, responsibility, pleasure, healthy, a release of all emotions, and a job.
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Why We Can’t Wait was a transition in writing and was very different. I am glad to hear from him how he developed his platform for the non-violence movement toward civil rights. In previous posts, I did indicate some harsh comments for continuing to treat me like him. Similar logic and same purpose, but different platforms. Unfortunately, I can understand his choices as being the leading voice for his movement, the United States slow progress for change, harsh compromises for changes, but I am grateful for his writings in letting us (African-Americans/Black/Colored) people know what truly transpired in Birmingham, Alabama, the Deep South, and he made mention of all the events that literally saw through monuments and tours of Birmingham, Alabama with my fraternity brothers, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Best Quotes:
1. “You have to be prepared to Die in order to start Living.”
2. “Freedom is the reward from the Oppressor. The Oppressed has to demand and fight for Freedom.” (I may have added some words, but it works.)
Thanks to all the African-Americans/Black/Colored, young and old, who truly sacrificed in the attempts to become equal and be free totally, and paved the way for me, my generation, and future generations. Just thirteen (13) years before my birth….wow! Thanks my dear fraternity brother, Dr. King, and his family for preserving his legacy.
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Where Do We Go From Here was a very intellectual work and more descriptive of the same black history that successfully passed on to at least my generation. This work gave a more definitive definition of racism as a disease. I do agree it is a disease. Some parts were sampled from his previous works and more explanations in depth. I was surprised he mentioned or met President Barack Obama before he became President, and he made plenty of United States Presidential comparisons. A lot of the people from plenty of restaurants and churches that I visited that had pictures of him, Smithsonian museum photos, and very popular people marching with him were mentioned. This is a real story and not made up. I comprehend his logic on whites trying to support the civil rights and equality causes, but whites truly could not relate what their race and ethnicity does to the minorities. It was plenty of groups mentioned with variety of perspectives including the militant perspectives. I guess it was an indirect mention of Malcolm X and Black Panthers. The price was high for the high profile assassinations going on from all the groups. Again, I am grateful for the survivors and my condolences for the families in their losses to provide for my generation, or at least for me to do what I do in the United States of America that can be transferred anywhere.
July 2023 This weekend Boston, Massachusetts welcomed more African-Americans and its supporters. I am glad to be an African-American/Black/Colored person. We went through alot as a people and still being done wrong. I attended my first NAACP National Convention ever. I had fun getting to know and seeing my people like me. I even ate collard greens, macaroni and cheese, and turkey at the black people price of $16 plus $4 dollar drink. It was cool. BLACK POWER
Well, the United States Track and Field Association Masters Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina is over. It was a very nice weekend to reacquaint with folks I have not seen in decades or a few years. I made some new acquaintances and surround myself with champions for fun, times, advice, and records. Thanks for the moments, USATF, Delta Airlines, Marriott Hotels, City of Greensboro, North Carolina A&T State University, and Potomac Valley Track Club. I love track and field. I did the 100m dash, 4x800m relay, Long Jump, 200m dash, 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay.

When I told them about SplitSpot beating them to the shared housing punch and their own 365 suspension of services, they finally got the message and cancelled everything from the Housing Tour and Metro Housing Leasing Public Housing Voucher that assign the voucher only to the specific room at 51 Beals St, Brookline, Massachusetts.

I did not win the $1+ billion dollar lottery. My mind is still playing tricks on me.
I met with my Studio Optics ophthalmologist after a year away. We have a hold order for another pair of glasses. We discussed contacts and he saw that I could read the charts well. He mentioned the contacts would blind me and I would not be able to read.

32 Real Black Horror Stories That Will Spook You Out
It's not ghost stories that can give you a fright during Spooky Season. Check out these real life horrors.
By
Kalyn Womack
Updated12 hours ago
Alright y’all... Spooky Season is upon us which means every channel on television is going to provide their own curated lists of Halloween-themed movies and scary stories. Many of them are the classic, fictional tales of the haunted woods, demonically possessed children or serial killers who ruin a friend group’s getaway.
However, you’d be surprised how many films reflect true crimes that occurred in real life.
Don’t be fooled by the overwhelmingly white faces of serial killers and mystery murder victims. The Black community has its own Jeffrey Dahmer’sand seen its own share of horrors beyond the 400 years of slavery. Seriously! There are still cold cases, unsolved crimes and cold-hearted killersthat haunt families as well as the crime junkies who did a nosedive into each eerie case.
Ghost stories and horror films can be spooky but are they a match for these real life horror stories? Decide for yourself.

Delphine LaLaurie’s Attic
ADVERTISEMENT
Native of Spanish-colonial Louisiana, LaLaurie may have been New Orleans’ first serial killer. On the street, she was seen to be rather kind to Black people. Until one morning in 1834, a fire broke out in her home revealing several starved, tortured and mutilated enslaved people. One elderly woman was found chained to the kitchen stove. More were found suspended by the neck, limbs torn and stretched abnormally or shackled by spiked iron collars.
Neighbors had known already that the upper portion of her mansion was used into a makeshift prison where she killed a total of 12 enslaved people including her cook and the woman’s children. The only one she didn’t kill may have been the 8-year-old girl who fell to her death from the roof of the mansion running from LaLaurie’s whip. An angry mob stormed the home after discovering her heinous crimes leading LaLaurie to flee overseas.

Murder of Harry T and Harriette Moore
ADVERTISEMENT
The Civil Rights power couple founded a chapter of the NAACP in Brevard County, Fla. The two were teachers but worked to help Black people vote, investigated hate crimes and overall fought for racial equality. They both fought in the Groveland case where four Black men were wrongfully convicted of raping a woman. However Christmas night, a handmade explosive of dynamite detonated under the couple’s bed.
Harry died on his way to the hospital and Harriette died nine days later. It was found 50 years later that four KKK members were behind the killing and no one was arrested.

Disputed Death of Tamla Horsford
Three years ago, Tamla Horsford was found dead in a friend’s backyard. She had been invited to a slumber party where she’d been drinking, according to 11Alive News. Witnesses claimed Horsford went out on the balcony for a cigarette. She allegedly fell over the balcony to her death. However, the position of her body at the crime scene and an independent autopsy found inconsistencies in what led to her death.
Investigators suspected Horsford sustained injuries before she fell. It’s even uncertain whether she’d fallen at all, due to the absence of skull fractures and broken bones. After the story of her death went viral, many in the cyber world suspected it was a murder, given that Horsford was the only Black woman at the party, but that’s never been confirmed.

Death of Kenneka Jenkins
ADVERTISEMENT
Jenkins, 19, was found dead inside a freezer at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Rosemont, Illinois in 2017, per ABC 7 Chicago. Jenkins was attending a hotel party with friends when surveillance video picked up footage of her walking in the hallway by herself. That’s it. Somehow, she ended up in the hotel’s kitchen freezer, where she was locked inside.
Social media videos of the party flooded the internet as spectators tried to piece together the moments leading up to her death. Officials ruled her death an accident due to hypothermia. Despite the online conspiracies, officials did not find evidence of foul play in Jenkins’ death.

Harrison Graham
ADVERTISEMENT
In 1987, Harrison “Marty” Graham was ordered to vacate his home due to a foul odor reeking from his unit. The smell came from the bodies of seven women who were found among trash and mattresses in Graham’s apartment, per the Philly Voice. More skeletal remains were found in his closet as well as in a green duffel bag full of bones on his roof.
Reports say Graham strangled the women he met in the Temple University area to death after luring them back to his home—which was the origin of his nickname: “House of Death” killer. He was convicted on both manslaughter and abuse of corpse charges, and fully admitted his guilt.
He escaped death row due to mental disability. He’s currently serving life in prison.

The Hanging of Ben Keita
The 18-year-old was found hanging from a tree 2.5 feet off the ground in a woodsy area in Seattle three months after he disappeared in 2017. An autopsy found his body was partially frozen but there were no signs of any trauma. At first, this led the medical examiner to rule his death a homicide but because the tree branch his body dangled from was 30 feet in the air, the manner of death was “undetermined.”
Sadly, his family said he plans to go to medical school and become a medical examiner himself. They still don’t know what led to his disappearance and death. The FBI is reviewed the case with the local police but it’s unclear what the findings were.

Mysterious Death of Ryan Singleton
The Georgia model flew to Los Angeles in 2013 for a short vacation but never returned home. Authorities say his car broke down on his way back and hitched a ride with California Highway Patrol to the gas station. However, when a friend came to pick him up, he disappeared.
Over 70 days later Singleton’s body was found two miles away from where he was last seen but his organs were missing. Due to “advanced decomposition,” the autopsy listed his cause of death as undetermined. No suspect were charged and there’s no clear answer as to how he wound up dead.

Opelika Jane Doe
The body of an unidentified little girl was foundbehind a trailer park in Opelika, Ala. in 2012. Near her body was a long-sleeved pink shirt with heart buttons. Authorities described her to be between the ages 4 and 7 and concluded the girl was physically abused by her killer.
The cops said she had scarring in her left eye, blinding her but the decomposition of her body left her unrecognizable. The police used digital claymation to reconstruct what her face would have looked like. In 2016, the police got a hold of photographs of a disfigured girl at Opelika’s Greater Peace Baptist Church Vacation Bible School. She was identified as Amore Joveah Wiggins in January 2023. Her father was charged with felony murder and he and his wife were charged with failure to report a missing child.

OJ Simpson Murder Trial
ADVERTISEMENT
Former NFL star and actor Orenthal James (O.J.) Simpson was accused of murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. Reports say the two were found dead outside Nicole’s condo.
Simpson’s trial happened around the same time as the Black LA community was rioting against police brutality and racism following the brutal beating of Rodney King. With racial tensions high, many Black people believed O.J. was being set up by the system. Public pressure led the jury to acquit Simpson of his charges.
The world watched the drama unfold on mostly live television.Everything was called into question, from DNA samples—which included blood, hair follicles and materials from Simpson’s vehicle—to the intentions of the LA police. The infamous glove found on Simpson’s property that matched his DNA as well as that of the two victims was also entered into evidence. Simpson’s attorneys, however, showed the world it didn’t fit and asked the jurors to acquit, which they did.

Alonzo Brooks
The body of 23-year-old Alonzo Brooks was found in a Kansas creek back in 2004. It wasn’t until 2021 that his mysterious death was ruled a homicide after his remains were exhumed. The police say he was last seen at a party where he was only one of three Black men in attendance. He was left without a ride home and didn’t come home the next day, details leading investigators to suspect his killing was racially motivated.

His family and friends launched their own search, coming across his body on top of a pile of branches in the creek. The FBI is still investigating the case.

Death of Christian Obumseli
OnlyFans model Courtney Clenney is facing murder charges in the fatal stabbing of boyfriend Christian Obumseli. Reports say documents brought forth in court suggest the two were in a toxic relationship and both victims of domestic violence. Videos of them fighting, audio recordingsof them screaming at each other and more have been submitted as evidence.

No one knows what happened moments before the stabbing, but Clenney’s attorneys argue she acted in self-defense. Following his death social media erupted in response to the news, skeptical of what really happened. We’ll have to wait until trial to see what the truth is.

Freeway Phantom
Between April 1971 and September 1972, six Black girls were kidnapped from their neighborhoods in Washington, DC and killed. According to the Metropolitan Police website, their bodies were found across DC and Prince George’s County.
The suspect was nicknamed the Freeway Phantom after a signed letter was discovered in one of the victim’s pockets.
“This is tantamount to my insensitivity to people, especially women. I will admit the others when you catch me, if you can!” it read.
Authorities assume the suspect lived in the same neighborhoods as the girls, however, the case has been cold now for decades. No one has attempted to uncover the mystery murderer other than author Victoria Hester and her father Blaine Pardoe, who have been looking into the case since 2019, per WUSA 9.

Samuel Little
Between 1970 and 2005, Samuel Little admitted to murdering 93 women.
He confessed to the killings in an exclusive interview with a Texas ranger in 2018, per the Texas Department of Public Safety. Little allegedly had a photographic memory, recalling every victim, where they met and where he left their bodies.
DPS Director Steven McCraw was eager to use the information supplied by Little’s confession to bring closure to more than a dozen unsolved murders. His statements matched up with at least 60 victims through DNA evidence. The FBI labeled him the most prolific serial killer in US history.
Before his death, he was serving a life sentence at a state prison in Los Angeles County. He died there of natural causes at 80 years old in 2020, per The New York Times.

Mississippi Burning Killings
On June 21, 1964, James Chaney, Michael Schwerner and Andrew Goodman were in Neshoba County to look into the burning of the CORE Freedom School site, reports say.
The three were volunteering to help people register to vote as a part of the Mississippi Summer Project, per PBS. However, they weren’t aware that the burned down site they went to visit was a product of the KKK, who didn’t plan on stopping their trail of arsons.
On the drive back, the three were stopped by a sheriff and arrested. Then they disappeared. After an investigation into their vanishing was opened, their remains were found in the swamps of the Mississippi. They’d been tortured and killed by seven members of the KKK—all of whom were found guilty of the killings.

Controversial Death of Sam Cooke
Soul, gospel and rock legend Sam Cooke was only 33 when he was shot and killed. According to PEOPLE, he spent his last night at a chic restaurant in LA. with Elisa Boyer, then headed to his hotel. Boyer said once the two got to the room, she feared Cooke was going rape her. When he went into the bathroom she fled and called the police.
Cooke allegedly assaulted the motel manager, Bertha Franklin, demanding to know where Boyer had gone. Franklin said she grabbed her pistol and shot him three times. Some believe there’s more to the story.
One theory suggests Boyer and Franklin conspired to lure Cooke to the hotel and rob him of his money. Another detail revealed that the bullet that killed Cooke didn’t match Franklin’s firearm. Others believe Cooke’s turn from love-song singer to civil rights activist had made him another target for the Feds.

Assassination of Malcolm X
On Feb. 21, 1965, civil rights activist Malcolm X was about to give a speech at the Audubon Ballroom in Manhattan. When he stepped to the podium, someone threw a makeshift bomb into the audience, causing the two security guards in front of the stage to leave their posts, per WashPo. As Malcolm tried to calm the crowd, a man charged toward him and shot him in the chest with a shotgun. Two other men shot him in the ankle and legs from the side of the stage.
One gunman, Talmadge Hayer, confessed to the shooting and was convicted. Two other members of the National of Islam were convicted as well, but were recently exonerated. The public speculated about what really happened and who plotted against the civil rights leader.
Certainly, many pointed to the NYPD and FBI as having a hand in it. However, documentaries about Malcolm X suggest he knew the government was after him because of his “radical” views about what achieving freedom would entail.

Alleged Murder of Shanquella Robinson
Reports say Shanquella Robinson went to a resort in Cabo San Lucas with six friends. Less than 24 hours later, she was found dead.
Robinson’s friends allege she died of alcohol poisoning. However, an autopsy found she suffered a broken neck and spine fractures, per NBC News. Additionally, when her friends called for help, they refused to let her be taken to the hospital. The doctor who arrived spent three hours trying to revive Robinson.
What seemed like a freak accidental death was soon seen as a murder cover up by social media users. Videos of Shanquella being beaten and dragged circulated on Twitter and her father identified two of her attackers as the “friends” she went on the trip with. Others claim the group stole her money in order to flee and leave her behind in Mexico.
The noise around the case caused the FBI and Mexican authorities to open a homicide investigation. Local reporters have tried to contact the witnesses, with no luck.

Mysterious Death of Kendrick Johnson
This story may go down in modern-day history as one of America’s eeriest crimes. In 2013, 17-year-old Kendrick Johnson was found dead rolled up inside of a wrestling mat in the Lowndes High School gymnasium in Valdosta, Georgia. Officials ruled his death a freak accident, suggesting he suffered “positional asphyxia” by getting himself stuck in the mat, reports say. However, his family insisted foul play was involved.
A documentary on his death revealed some stunning details that led to a second investigationof his case. First, his autopsy revealed he suffered blunt force trauma to the neck and his death was consequently ruled a homicide. Secondly, a few of his internal organs were missing. Lastly, two of Johnson’s peers, who were brothers, were named persons of interest in the case but were never charged.
Lowndes County Sheriff Ashley Paulk offered $1 million of his own money for tips about the case after closing the second investigation, per NBC News.

Lynching of Emmett Till
A true American horror story, Emmett Louis Till was only 15 when he was kidnapped and brutally murdered. Till, who was from Chicago, had gone to Mississippi to visit family in August 1955. A young city boy, he had no idea how dangerous the Delta could be. Eventually, he was accused of whistling at a white woman in a store. That woman, Carolyn Bryant Donham, told her husband and his brother that Till had assaulted her.
The two men tracked down Till, snatched him from his bed, tortured and mutilated him and left his body in the river. When his body was recovered, he was barely recognizable. His mother, Mamie Till-Mobley, held an open casket funeral which sparked a new wave of civil rights protests against the senseless violence racism had brewed.

Alleged Lynching of Quawan Charles
Quawan “Bobby” Charles was also 15 when he died. He was reported missing in October 2020 to the Baldwin Police Department in Louisiana, per ABC News. However, they failed to release an Amber Alert or report his disappearance to the media. Instead, he was classified as a runaway.

The last place Charles was seen was getting into a car with a woman named Janet Irvin. She admitted to picking up Charles to take him back to her home without permission. She also claimed he ran away from her home.
Charles’ body was found just a mile from her house in a sugar cane field. His cause of death was ruled a drowning, although the ditch only held two feet of water. The mutilated images of his body that circulated on social media told a different story. Irvin was arrested more than 100 days after Charles was found.

Disappearance and Death of Jelani Day
Illinois State graduate student Jelani Day was found dead in the Illinois River, according to NBC News. Day was only 25 when he went missing on August 24, 2022 and was last seen at a dispensary. His car was later found a mile away from his body. Inside the car? The clothes he was last seen wearing.

The county coroner ruled Day’s death a drowning. Day’s family insists, however, that he was an avid swimmer and did he show any suicidal symptoms that would lead him to drown himself. It’s unknown how he ended up in the river.
His family demanded a federal investigation into his death and believe foul play was involved. The FBI offered a $10,000 reward for tips.

Disappearance of the Millbrook Twins
Dannette and Jeanette Millbrook, 15, have been missing since March 18, 1990. According to WJBF, their case was opened back up in 2013 when it went viral after a documentary on their disappearance aired. The police initially wrote off the mystery as a case of runaways. The last time they were seen was at a Pump-N-Shop store, per the family. Their younger sister recalled walking with her mother to find them the night they vanished.

True crime spectators wonder if they’d been abducted by serial killer Joseph Patrick Washington, who lived in their neighborhood. Their father was also reported to be sexually abusive and some question if he may have abducted them himself. The most frustrating part of the case is that there was no investigation to begin with. So, where does one start?
The family put up two billboards, asking the public to help them find any information about their loved ones; a $50,000 reward has been offered for any information.

Addie Mae (14), Denise McNair (14), Carole Robertson (14) and 11-year-old Cynthia Wesley were killed. Addie’s sister Sarah survived, but lost her right eye due to her injuries.
The public outrage after the incident caused the FBI to launch an investigation. After finding a few suspects, no one was indicted due to lack of evidence, per the National Park Service. However, Alabama Attorney General Bill Baxley reopened the case and investigators eventually discovered that the FBI had hidden critical evidence. Robert Chambliss, Thomas Blanton and Bobby Frank Cherry were eventually convicted of murder in the case.

Murder of Erica ‘Precious Doe’ Green
Green was only three years old when she was brutally murdered, per CBS News. Her stepfather, Harrell Johnson, was reported to have beaten her for crying, peeing on herself and refusing to eat. Johnson’s cousin, Lawanda Driskell said she heard him tell Green’s mother, Michelle, to get a hold of her daughter before he “does something bad.”

A week later, Harrell gave a fatal blow to Erica’s head by kicking her. The door was kept closed and the couple alleged the toddler was just sick. Erica wasn’t moved from the room for two days. However, police later found her decapitated body at an intersection in Kansas City. Even more days later, they found her head, which authorities said was cut off with a pair of hedge clippers. Before identifying the body as Green’s, they named her “Precious Doe.”
Michelle and Harrell Johnson, who both had outstanding warrants, were convicted of second-degree felony murder and endangering the welfare of a child.

Murder of Jeffrey Dahmer
After a slew of merciless killings, Jeffrey Dahmermet his own fate at the hands of a fellow inmate. Dahmer had been sentenced to fifteen life sentences, serving time beside Christopher Scarverin 1992.

Scarver told the New York Post this year that Dahmer would play with his food and cut it up into so-called “body parts,” then smear ketchup across them to make them look bloodied.
Critics suspect Scarver was aided in Dahmer’s attack because the cannibal was left isolated without his special guards. Scarver said the guards helped him but did not elaborate any further.

The DC Snipers
John Allen Muhammad (41) and Lee Boyd Malvo (17) went on a killing spree around the DMV in 2002, per CNN. Most of their shootings targeted civilians in public places like shopping center parking lots, gas stations or school zones. Then, one day they left a clue at the scene of one of their crimes: a “Death” tarot card reading “Call me God.”

Their motives were never clear. Some suspected Muhammad wanted revenge after his ex-wife and children left him. Others believed they were involved with Al Qaeda, given the fresh wound of the 9/11 attacks.
The killings began earlier that year, then became more frequent during the month of October. A total of 17 people died and another ten who were shot survived their gunshot wounds. Eventually, the two were arrested. Muhammad was sentenced to death and executed in 2009. Malvo remains in prison on a life sentence, though he’s been ordered for a resentencing now that he is an adult, per WUSA9 News.

Murder of Tupac Shakur
Who’s responsible for the murder of Tupac Shakur is one of the most heated debates next to the conspiracy theories questioning whether he’s alive and hiding in Cuba or not. Reports say that in September of 1996, Shakur was in Las Vegas walking through a hotel when he ran into a mutual enemy, Orlando Anderson. After the two squabbled in the lobby, Anderson was left beaten on the floor.
The last we ever saw of the rapper was on the hotel’s security camera footage, furiously walking through the lobby, per Las Vegas Review Journal. Two hours later, Shakur was sitting at a red light on Flamingo Road and Koval Lane, with his Death Row posse and Suge Knight beside him when a car pulled up to his BMW and rained fire. He suffered two bullets to the chest, one to the thigh and one to the arm. His succumbed to his injuries six days later.
Because his shooter was never captured, many began to speculate about who really was involved. Given Death Row’s coast-to-coast rap beef with Bad Boy Records, many music fans and living room sleuths theorized Sean ‘Diddy Combs may have put a hit out on Pac. Others believed Suge Knight was to blame. LA residents settled on plain ol’ gang violence between the Bloods and the Crips. None of these theories have been proven to be true.

Murder of The Notorious B.I.G.
Christopher Wallace aka Biggie Smalls aka The Notorious B.I.G. died in an eerily similar way to his Hip-Hop competitor, Tupac Shakur. According to Fox 5 New York, Wallace was leaving a party in Los Angeles when he was fatally shot during a drive-by in March of 1997. Given that Shakur had died just the year before, the public believed the tensions between Death Row and Bad Boy Records had finally boiled over.
For years, authorities couldn’t pinpoint who was Wallace’s killer, making this yet just another cold case. However, the conspiracy that Suge Knight was the evil mastermind behind it all became more convincing after sealed federal records were revealed. An FBI agent told The New York Postthat the shooter was Amir Muhammad, a member of the Nation of Islam, who was hired by Knight as a hitman. Despite the agent’s claim, none of this has been officially confirmed and the case is still an open mystery.

Central Park Jogger Case
Though the group of teens did not commit the crime they were convicted of, this story goes down in history as a horrid example of racial bias in the criminal justice system.
In 1989, Korey Wise, Kevin Richardson, Raymond Santana, Antron McCray and Yusef Salaam were just teens when they were arrested in connection to the rape and assault of a white woman jogger in Central Park. After being intimidated and manipulated by several crooked NY police officers, the teens falsely confessed to the crime, which landed them between six and 13 years in prison, per the New York Times. The woman, who survived the attack, was unable to provide helpful details in identifying who her attacker was.
The media scandalized their names and made them out to be animals, gang members and monstrous criminals. While serving time in an adult facility, Wise encountered the real culprit, Matias Reyes, who later confessed to the crime in 2002. Reyes was already a convicted murderer and serial rapist at the time.
The five were recently exonerated and awarded a $41 million settlement; although the NYPD still deny their role in the wrongful conviction.

Death of Kalief Browder
In 2010, Browder was accused of minor theft and, at the tender age of 16, sent to Rikers Island for three years. He maintained his innocence and eventually his case was dropped and he was released. However, his experiences while at the jail drove him into a dark mental state, per The New Yorker.
Two of his years at Rikers were spent in solitary confinement. He recalled being targeted and abused by officers. Surveillance footage of him in jail also showed him being randomly bum rushed by guards and other inmates. Browder made multiple suicide attempts while at Rikers, and also after his release three months later. He was sent to a psychiatric hospital where he was reported to have experienced paranoia. As the horrors of the jail system were being exposed to the public, Browder was deteriorating mentally. In 2015, he died by suicide. New York City paid his estate $3.3 million in a lawsuit settlement.

The Chicago Strangler
Over a span of 27 years, Black women in Chicagohave been found beaten or strangled to death and their killers have never been found. According to Fox 32 Chicago, their bodies were often discarded in buildings or dumpsters and some were even dismembered.
Between 1999 and 2018, 75 women were found strangled to death, reports say. Police have only solved 24 of the cases, one fairly recently. A woman was discovered inside an abandoned building, chained up by a man she said sexually assaulted her. A passerby heard her cries for help and was able to get the police to rescue her. Although Joel Cammon was arrested and charged, it’s unclear if he’s connected to any of the other strangulation murders.
The Murder Accountability Project began tracking these cases alongside activists who called out the Chicago Police Department for its inability to catch what they assume is a serial killer. The families of the missing and murdered women have held multiple rallies calling for greater action to be taken to bring their loved ones home.

One of Many Reasons Why
Tumblr media
Mark Lee x Reader
Genre: Fluff
Word Count: 2.7K Warnings: cursing, minor religion mentioned
Summary: There were many reasons to love Mark Lee…
Notes: Happiest of birthdays to our baby lion, Mark Lee. I had a totally different piece written for his birthday but I completely scrapped it and wrote this instead. And I like it so much better. -  K 🌱
1. Circle Frames
Mark usually wore contacts most of the time, which was disappointing since he looked so stinking cute in those precious circle frames of his. But whenever he got too lazy or forgot to buy more contacts, he would end up wearing his glasses instead. And those were moments that you lived for. You couldn’t help but coo at how cute he looked each time that he wore them, taking a billion pictures of him as you did so. Mark would simply push away your phone, becoming incredibly flustered, telling you, “Ugh, babe stop….”
2. Messy Love Notes
Mark had a habit of writing you little love notes every chance he got. Most of the time, his love notes were never written on a clean sheet of paper. They were usually short blurbs scribbled messily on whatever he could get his hands on; a Starbucks napkin, on the back of his music theory quiz, a crumpled up post-it note. But that didn’t matter, you loved it regardless.
Unfolding the folded love note Mark had slipped to you in passing earlier, you couldn’t help but smile as you read the messily written note on the corner of a flashcard. ‘I love you to the moon and back.’
3. Secret Handshakes
For someone who was extremely clumsy and sometimes a little uncoordinated, Mark loved making secret handshakes for all of his friends. And you weren’t an exception. Since the day that you’ve met each other, way before the two of you became a couple, you and Mark have been adding a new move to your guys’ handshake. Each time that you two saw each other, it still amazes you how either one of you were able to memorize all the moves at this point.
4. Baby Giggles
No matter how much, Mark loves to deny it. Mark Lee was nothing but a big baby. He is the epitome of a baby. Especially when he giggles and laughs at things that he finds amusing. Even though he’s older, whenever that cute giggle of his slips passed his lips, you can’t help but feel a sense of overprotectiveness overcome you. Mark Lee was to be protective at all cost because he’s simply precious like that.
5. Goofball
Sometimes it was so hard to take Mark seriously because at the end of the day, he was nothing but a goofball. He would laugh at the simplest things, the lamest jokes, and the cheesiest puns. The best part was that even when it wasn’t funny, he would still laugh. And he just had the most contagious laugh in the whole world. So you couldn’t help but laugh along with him until your stomach hurt.
6. Warm Cuddles
Maybe you were biased but Mark gave the best hugs and was the best cuddle buddy in the world. No one could compare. The best kind are the ones that he gave on those calm, Sunday mornings. Eyes barely open and mind barely awake, Mark would pull you closer, sharing his warmth with you. Then with a lazy hand, he would thread his fingers through your hair. Mumbling softly into your hair, he would say, “Let’s just stay in bed all day babe…”
7. Burnt Eggs
It was a universally acknowledged fact that Mark Lee was a terrible cook. He wasn’t even able to boil water without it evaporating completely. He was honestly that bad of a cook. So the one morning that he decided that it would be a brilliant idea to wake up early and make you an omelette for breakfast, he almost burned down half the building. From then on, Mark was completely banned from the kitchen stove. These days, he still wakes up early and prepares breakfast for you though. Except he just orders it from your favorite bakery down the street, which was a much better option for everyone.
8. Watermelon Boy
There were two things in the world that Mark Lee loved with his entire heart. Of course, one of those things was you. But the love he had for watermelon was equally as strong. Honestly speaking, had he not met you in this lifetime, you were sure that he would have ended up marrying a watermelon.
He was all yours for three seasons out of four. When summer hit though, that was a completely different story because with summer comes the watermelons. Surprisingly with how much he buys and brings home everyday, you weren’t sick of eating all that watermelon. It might have been the cute, happy smile that he has on his face each time he ate them that made it worth it.
9. What the Flute?
Mark Lee was talented at a lot of things; rapping, composing, singing, dancing, and the list simply goes on and on. But the one thing that he wasn’t good at playing the flute. The day that you had found the instrument case of his flute back from primary school was the day that you realized that there were some things that Mark couldn’t do. You had teased him, calling him a cute band geek as you pulled the case out from the back of his closet. Flipping through the old music scores, you asked him if he could still play it.
Shrugging his shoulders, he said, “Maybe? I’m not sure. It’s been a while.”
And it has been a while because the moment that he held the flute up to his lips and tried to play it, nothing but squeaks came out. This left you rolling on the floor laughing as you clutched your stomach in pain. The laughing didn’t stop as Mark continued to give his best effort in playing the flute.
Let’s just say that his primary school days of playing in a marching band were long over.
10. Team Android
No matter how many times you had urged him to upgrade his phone to an iPhone, Mark continued to stay loyal to that android of his. You didn’t have a problem with him having an android. No, not at all. You just wanted to be able to use all the cute talking emojis on iMessage.
11. Fully Capable
It was pretty rare for Mark to ever feel nervous about his performances and presentations. Mark was one of the top students in their music department. He was the department’s golden child. He could literally do anything that he would set his mind to. You had just wished that he knew that he was good enough and he didn’t have anything to fear.
One night, during finals, Mark was on the verge of a mental breakdown as he tried to finish the composition for his music theory class. As he angrily tossed aside his notebook and guitar, you came up to him and immediately pulled him into your arms. With a soothing hand running through his hair, you said, “Hey, it’s okay babe.”
Mumbling incoherently into the nape of your neck, “No, it’s not… I can’t even rearrange this stupid simple song. How am I supposed to do anything in life?”
“You’re just thinking too hard about it. Relax, babe.”
“How the hell am I supposed to relax when I have nothing finished and this is due in like five hours?” He cried out, clearly frustrated.
Pulling away from the embrace, you cupped his face in between the palm of your hands, forcing him to look at you directly in the eye. “Hey. Seriously. Quit being so negative right now. This isn’t like you. Because the Mark Lee I know is a music genius and he’s absolutely fully capable of anything and everything.”
12. Butterfly Kisses
Kisses from Mark were also the best and you might be a little biased again, but it’s the truth. Sometimes Mark gets a little too shy to kiss you outright on the lips, so he showers you with butterfly kisses instead. First, he’ll bring your hand to his lips and kiss the back of it. Then he’ll pull you in close and place a fleeting kiss on your temple. Then your cheeks, then your nose, and lastly your lips.
13. Multilingual King
Even after knowing Mark for so many years, it still amazes you how many languages the boy knows and can pick up on so quick. He was like your own personal translator when you guys when on trips to foreign countries. But it was also funny how he would stumble over his words sometimes when he’s trying to switch between languages. When that happens, he just puts his hands out in a pausing motion, shouting, “Okay. Wait, wait. I need to switch my brain over.”
14. Corny Jokes
The jokes that he tells you and the ones that he finds funny are ones that are rivaling of your dad’s. His sense of humor was really one of a father in their mid-thirties.
As the two of you sit there side by side, enjoying a bowl of cold watermelon, he begins to laugh obnoxiously before he can even say the joke. Already prepared for the worst joke in the world, you sit there, staring straight back at him with an unamused look.
After he’s finished with his laughing fit, he smiles and feeds you a piece of watermelon, saying, “Babe, you’re one in a melon.”
15. Spiderman Mark Lee
For Halloween, Mark’s friends decided to throw a Marvel themed party and it was the best idea that they could ever come up with. Why? Because Mark Lee decided to go to the party as Spiderman. And you may or may not have a crush on Peter Parker but Mark didn’t need to know that.
But when he got tired of all the drinking games that his friends were playing, he scouted you out amongst the crowd. And when he saw that you were sitting on the swing set that Jaemin’s family had in the backyard, he came up with the most brilliant plan.
Sneaking up behind you as quiet as he could, Mark climbed on top of the jungle gym above the swings. Then nearly scaring the living daylights out of you, he swung downwards, straight in front of your face, whispering, “Hey.”
“Oh my gosh! Mark Lee!” You screamed. Hand clutching your racing heart, you breathed out heavily through your nose. “You can’t go around and do things like this and not expect me to die from a premature heart attack!”
“Sorry,” he laughed. Then pulling the ends of his mask up, he whispered softly, “Here, take a kiss as my apology.”
And you might have just died when he said that because that was such a classic Spiderman move.
16. Billionaire
The day the ‘Billionaire’ by Bruno Mars had came on the radio as the two of you were studying, it instantly became your guys’ song. It was on repeat for the longest of time, to the point to where you both knew the rap and vocal parts equally by heart. Each time that it came on, you didn’t have to think for a second before you’re belting out the chorus together, whether it was out in public or in the comfort of your own apartment. You didn’t care because it was your song.
17. Driver’s License
For someone his age, you would think that he would have a driver’s license by now. But nope, that wouldn’t be Mark Lee would it?
One day as you’re picking him up from his shift at the music store down the street from his apartment complex you couldn’t help but ask, “Don’t you think you should get your driver’s license? I mean you’re almost twenty one...”
Nodding, Mark said in reply, “Yeah, I probably should…”
And that he did.
Because the next day, before the sun was even up, he came knocking on your apartment’s door. Barely awake, you had answered the door with annoyance, yanking it open, “Babe. It’s not even eight. What do you want?”
“Well, good morning to you too, princess.” Mark chuckled.
After closing the door, he follows you back to your bedroom, where you flopped rather ungracefully back onto your bed. Crawling into the empty space beside you, he tucked a strand behind your ear, smiling as he stares back at you intently. “Guess what I did this morning?”
Leaning into his touch, you close your eyes, relishing in the warmth that he was giving off. With a soft hum, you asked half-asleep, “What did you do?”
“I got my driver’s license.”
Eyes shooting wide open and mouth completely agape, you exclaimed, “You what?!”
Scrambling to sit up, you slapped him on the shoulder, making him laugh even harder. “Wait, hold up.” You said as you held your hands up, trying to wrap your mind around what Mark has just told you. Sputtering, “You… actually went and got a driver’s license? You know I was just joking right?”
“Yeah, but I figured that it was time to get one anyways.” He smiled. “Plus it was a piece of cake.”
“Only you, Mark Lee. Only you.”
“Yes, that would be me. I am Mark Lee.”
“Oh shush,” you couldn’t help but laugh. Then extending your hand out to him, you gave him a sweet smile. “Alright, the moment of truth. Let me see that driver’s license photo.”
The smile on his lips widen even more as he reached into his back pocket and retrieved his wallet. Then placing his freshly new driver’s license into the palm of your awaiting hand, he leaned back satisfied.
And course he would be satisfied. Mark looked devilishly handsome on his license. But you couldn’t help but tease him about it as you pinched his cheeks, saying, “Aww look at our Markie Poo being all cool and handsome.”
Pushing your hands away from his face, Mark snatched his license back and tucked it away into his wallet. Then opening his arms, he asked, “Alright, are we going to cuddle or are you going to continue making fun of me?”
“Who says that I can’t do both?” You told him teasingly as you tucked yourself into his waiting arms, snuggling up against his warm body.
18. Baby Lion
“Baby Lion”, that was one of the many nicknames that you had for Mark. You weren’t quite sure where the nickname had come from. But the day that you saw Mark wake up from his nap, stretching and yawning like a cute baby cub with his hair a complete disarray, it clicked.
19. Religious Boy
Mark Lee was a wholesome, kind-hearted, and precious boy. He would never fail to remind you how he is ever so thankful that God had allowed someone like you to enter into his life; to have someone to love and support through thick and thin. He told you once that he prays for your health and happiness every night before he sleeps and you couldn’t help but feel that there really wasn’t another Mark Lee in this world.
20. Black Haired Mark
You honestly didn’t think that Mark could get any handsomer than he already was until the day he came back from the barber shop and had his hair dyed black. Without warning, he had sneaked up behind and wrapped his arms around you as the two of you stood in the kitchen. You were too busy reviewing your study notes and drinking your morning coffee to notice his new hair. But when you did, you were nothing but a sputtering mess and spilling coffee all over the counter.
Mouth agape, you exclaimed, “Oh. My. Gosh. Your hair…”
Nodding his head, he ruffled his hair shyly. “Yeah. I figured it was time for a change. Spice it up a little bit from the classic brown.”
The words had left your mouth before you could stop it, “Yeah, spice it up alright, because you look hot.”
21. Best Friend
Before the two of you even became a couple, you were each other’s best friend. Mark was the best friend that you could only dream of having. He laughed with you at the stupid things you did and tries to make you feel better about yourself. Even when you don’t want to hear it, Mark gives you the most honest advice and makes sure to keep you in check. He’s always there for you, even when he’s thousands of miles away for vacations with his family or concerts for the music department. He makes sure that he is the first to say ‘good morning’ and ‘goodnight’ to you. And last but not least, Mark loves you at your best and he still loves you even at your worst.

halloweenanigans
Pairing(s)/Characters: SasoObi, ShiItaIzu, implied future SasuSaku, Ino, Kiba, and Naruto Rating: T Disclaimer Day’s Notes: written for the fabulous, oh-so-amazing, and extremely wonderful @thatshipcat to celebrate their birthday-week! This fic is set in the same modern au setting as Konoha TV Cryptid and can be seen as a sort of prequel. Here is a Halloween fic that I hope you all find funny and sweet.
AO3
Halloweenanigans
Sighing to himself, Sasori wiped off the makeup that had taken him a great deal of effort to apply. The painstakingly applied makeup had given him the appearance of one of the glassy eyed ventriloquist dummies from an old horror movie.
When he had first decided on his costume for Halloween he had expected to be dragged to parties by his boyfriend━parties he knew he would get bored of, but he could easily persuade Obito to duck out early.
What he hadn’t expected was to be stuck on babysitting duty.
Sasori was aware that his makeup was unnerving and would freak children out. If he had known that he would be around children at any point on Halloween he would have reconsidered his costume for the night.
If he had known.
Opening the door to the apartment, Sasori had expected to see his boyfriend not a gaggle of children. What soon followed was a high pitched shriek and then a swift kick to the shin from a blonde eight year old that came to the defense of her friend with peculiar hair coloring.
The same eight year old was sitting on one of his bar stools and swinging her little legs as she waited patiently for him and his supplies.
“So you just want whiskers?” Sasori asked her, setting up his multi-tiered makeup box.
“Please,” she pleaded bashfully, averting her gaze. She had apologized earlier for the attack and wouldn’t look him in the eye out of shame.
“Are you sure, Ino? He can make you a real snout.” Obito was currently reattaching one of the multiple tails to another blond brat’s costume. “He’s really good at it.”
“How did you get stuck on babysitting duty, again?”
“Stuck? I volunteered!”
“Of course you did,” Sasori muttered looking around his neat living room. At the moment Obito’s cousin and the tiny girl with rose gold hair were sitting calmly on his couch but the brown haired kid dressed like a dog was fidgeting as he looked around the room.
He better not break anything...
Looking down at Ino’s cat ears, Sasori took out a pot of gel eye liner and instructed the girl to close her eyes and tilt her chin up. There was a glimmer in her eyes when she saw the makeup kit and she sat still as a statue and did as asked.
“Can I get glitter too?” Ino asked━shame tossed completely out the window━as soon as Sasori was done lining her eyes to make them more cat like. The pale blue of her irises really worked with the cat costume.
Dusting the area around her eyes with more white face paint to give the texture of fur, he considered the placement of glitter on her faux cat markings. “Sure.”
Ino had barely slid off the barstool when the puppy kid had braced his hands on the seat of it and in one fluid motion, jumped up and seated himself.
“Can you make it look like I have a giant scar going across my face?”
“That’s not part of the theme, Kiba!” Ino stomped her foot, hands on her hips.
“Naruto has like nine tails on him and no one has said anything about that!”
The two of them began to bicker, but Sasori was sure he heard Obito’s cousin mutter “I definitely did.”
Getting through the makeup for all of the kids, it wasn’t hard to notice the animal theme the kids went for. Or in the smallest child’s case, a yokai. Obito had even joined them and had the adult version of his cousin’s wolf costume.
Using his skills as a makeup artist was at least more amusing than watching a bunch of grad students give themselves alcohol poisoning.
“A heads up would have been nice.”
“Aww,” Obito threw an arm around Sasori’s shoulders, “you can always go as Little Red. Ow!”
Leaving him with the kids in the living room, Sasori headed back to his bedroom. He was sure that he had a kid friendly costume in his closet.
.
.
Sasori narrowed his eyes at his boyfriend. Obito would sneak peeks at him as they walked, the corners of his mouth twitching upwards.
“Not a word,” Sasori hissed, the cat ears on his head twitching in sync with his right eye.
Unfortunately for him, he didn’t have anything that would have been quick to put together and the fox boy and puppy kid were already complaining about how the sun had set. He changed into some easy to move in street clothes and grabbed his brainwave cat ears.
Trick or treating wasn’t that bad, mostly a lot of walking. Whether it was the promise of candy or refusal to show any exhaustion, the primary school kids dragged him and Obito across several blocks.
“Isn’t this the cousin that hates candy?” Sasori asked, watching the little wolf throw something from his bag at the fox kid’s face.
“Sasuke? Yeah. He’ll probably end up giving most of that candy to Sakura.” Obito unwrapped a lollipop and stuck it in his mouth. “Usually he gives his candy to Itachi because no one gives it out to teenagers anymore but he’s pissed off at him right now.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah, I volunteered to take him, Kiba, and Naruto trick or treating because Itachi decided he wanted to go out with his friends this year.”
“And the bunny and cat?”
“Sakura goes where Sasuke goes and Ino goes where Sakura goes.”
And as if on cue, there was Sasuke offering a marshmallow treat to the bunny girl, right before Ino knocked him out of her way by bumping him with her hip and offering Sakura a chocolate bar from her own bag. Ino hooked her arm with Sakura’s and they skipped to the next house.
“She’s not going to make his life easy,” Obito snickered. The smile slid off of his face when the man at the next house pulled the bowl of candy away from Sasuke. “What the hell?”
“The kid is pretty tall for his age. He probably thinks that he’s a teen—and there he goes.”
Ino and Sakura came running back to him as they watched Obito give the older man a piece of his mind.
“Should we stop him?” Sakura asked him, tugging on the sleeve of his jacket.
“Obito’s fine.”
“Oh, not him.” Ino pointed in a different direction, a smile spreading across her face.
Sasori cocked his head to the side and observed the scene in front of them. Sasuke was now pinching the bridge of his nose in embarrassment. Obito was too busy arguing with the owner of the house to notice that Naruto had grabbed the giant jack o’ lantern from the front yard until it was too late.
He lifted it over his head and with more strength than Sasori would expect from a ten year old, Naruto threw it, smashing it against the garage door. Kiba let out a battle cry and copied his action with another pumpkin.
“Hey!” The house owner shouted. “I’m calling the cops, you brats.”
“Ha! You think that scares me?” Kiba mocked him as Obito scooped him up over his shoulder. “My mom is a cop.”
Sasori wrapped his arms around Ino and Sakura’s waists and lifted them up, carrying them under his arms as he followed Obito across the street and around the corner. The girls shrieked and giggled the whole way.
“Can I get a slushie?” Ino clasped her hands behind her back and batted her eyelashes up at Sasori. She nudged Sakura with her elbow and the girl mirrored her actions.
“You have enough sugar. You can get water.”
They found a convenience store to use the restroom and to find some supplies to fix Naruto’s costume again. He kept smacking everyone with his tails and Sasuke grew fed up with it and ripped the tails off.
“We’ll share the slushie,” Ino insisted.
Sasori crossed his arms in front of his chest, not falling for the cutesy act. “If I’m paying, you get water. If you want a slushie, you buy it.”
“Ugh, fine.” Ino pulled out a smartphone from her hoodie pocket and pulled out a credit card from the card pocket attached to the case.
What the hell? Sasori shook his head. He didn’t want to meet the parent that gave a ten year old an iPhone, let alone a credit card. He watched as Ino dragged Sakura behind an aisle and then immediately turned back, blue eyes wide.
“What happened?” Sasori demanded.
“N-nothing.” Both girls cheeks were flushed red.
I swear to God if it’s a flasher…
Sasori turned the corner around the aisle and stopped dead in his tracks. “Oh, you’ve gotta be kidding me. Oi!”
Obito’s other younger cousin blinked at him, pulling away from a brown haired girl and a curly haired boy that had his arms wrapped around his waist from behind.
“Really? At a 7-Eleven?” Sasori scrunched his face up in disgust. “Love yourself. Have some class.”
“Wait,” Itachi’s eyes widened in recognition, “if you’re here—“
“This is the prior engagement you had?” Obito snickered, his head poking out from over the shelves of chips. “If you wanted to go on a date, you could have just said so.”
Sasori snorted and crossed his arms in front of his chest. “I wouldn’t call this a date. Making out in front of the slushie machine, really? So classy.”
“Brings back memories huh, Sasori?” Sasori rubbed his brow with his index finger and thumb. “He gets hangry when he’s high. You guys don’t have the munchies do you?”
The three teenagers looked from Obito and then back down to Sasori━seriously, what was with the Uchiha family and being so tall?━eyes wide and stammering. Itachi blinked owlishly from behind his glasses but then looked around.
“You’re not high right now, are you Obito? You have my brother with you! You do have him with you, right?”
Obito blew a raspberry and then ducked down. There was a growling sound and a protest and then Sasuke was lifted up in the air above the shelves. “See? All in one piece.”
“Can you put me down now?”
“Aww, don’t you want to see your brother?” Obito asked, setting him back down.
“No, he’s a traitor,” Sasuke’s voice carried down the aisle as he stomped away.
Itachi at least had the decency to hang his head in defeat. Sasori rolled his eyes and went looking for his charges for the night. Ino was loud but she and Sakura were a lot easier to deal with than Kiba and Naruto. Speaking of, the two of them had been quiet for a while now…
There was a loud popping sound and then a pair of cackles. There was the sound of liquid splashing everywhere and one of the shop employees started shouting.
No. Nope, not dealing with that. Sasori turned in the opposite direction of the noise and grabbed Sakura and Ino’s hands. Sasuke jogged alongside them, following them right out of the store.
“Hey!” Ino whined. “I didn’t get my slushie!”
“That was Naruto wasn’t it?” Sakura asked, grabbing onto Sasuke’s hand to make sure he went around the corner with them as Sasori dragged them as far from the 7-Eleven as possible.
“The idiot said there wasn’t enough tricks happening tonight.”
“I’m choking him with his own tails later,” Sakura growled.
Well, alright then. Sasori did a double take, shocked that the threat had come from the child that had been the most quiet the whole night. The baby of the group is a lot darker than previously believed to be.
“We left Obito behind,” Sasuke informed him.
“Every man for himself.” Sasori chose not to remind him that he had also left behind his friends and his older brother.
He probably didn’t really care about his older brother and his “cousins” at the moment. Sasori was going to have to ask Obito how they were all related again. He knew that he and Sasuke were definitely related because Obito was a little more doting than was healthy and even had a collection of baby photos.
They were probably going to have to have a discussion about that as well if the relationship was going to go any further than the four months they already dated.
The ten year old smirked up at him, “you know what, you’re okay. I approve.”
“I wasn’t looking for your approval.” Sasuke simply shrugged.
“You got it anyway.”
.
.
Sasori made himself busy folding candy wrappers into different shapes for Sakura’s entertainment. She was clearly the only kid of the group worth wasting time on—Obito’s favoritism towards his baby cousin ignored of course.
He had only been in her presence for a few hours but it was obvious the little beauty queen had Obito’s cousin and Naruto wrapped around her little finger. It was something he had to respect just a bit.
“Okay, kiddos,” Obito addressed them all cheerily. “Where to next?”
“Don’t they have a curfew?”
“Nope!” Ino popped a bubble. Somehow all of the candy with gum ended up in her possession. “We’re all sleeping over at Sasuke’s.”
“What!?” Naruto shrieked. “Since when is Ino staying over?”
“Since Sakura asked.” Ino tossed her ponytail over her shoulder haughtily, fists balled at her hips.
“You got a problem, Naruto?” Sakura shook her little fist in his direction and the boy cowered, throwing his hands over his head.
“No, not at all.”
“God, you’re whipped,” Kiba snickered. His words though were directed to Sasuke who was sitting on the curb a little away from the rest of them.
“Shut up, Kiba.” Ino rolled her eyes. “There’s no such thing as being whipped.”
Kiba blew a raspberry at her. “It’s the whole reason we have an animal theme this year. ‘Cause someone gets cold easily and someone else went along with it.”
Oh. Sasori observed the way Sasuke’s ears turned a shade of red. His eyes shifted to Sakura who definitely was wearing the warmest costume, being the fluffy bunny and all.
“So how long are we going to be stuck with the kids?” Sasori asked Obito over the squawking of the children. As...cute...as they were, time with them was dragging on and he had plans for the way he wanted the night to end. “Kind of wanted to do some...things later.”
“Oh, really?” Obito gave him a cheeky grin. Wrapping an arm around his shoulders, he pulled Sasori closer, leaning in to—
“There are children present.” Sasori palmed Obito’s face and pushed him away.
“You’re just being a tease,” Obito whined. “Not like they would even notice.”
It was true. The kids weren’t even paying attention to them. The five of them were in their own little world, crowding Ino’s smartphone. Naruto lunged for the phone, exclaiming about something, but was pushed back by the other kids.
Sasori still couldn’t believe the stuff the brat had done in only a few hours. Bless his mother. Sasori could only imagine how difficult it was to deal with him 365 days of the year.
“This night has turned me off of kids.”
Obito scoffed and rolled his eyes. “You don’t mean that.”
“No, I’m serious. These kids are walking advertisements for birth control.”
Obito exhaled a laugh through his nose. “Love the kid, but I’m pretty sure Sasuke wasn’t planned.”
“Well, fortunately we won’t have that problem in the future. Can’t accidentally adopt a kid.”
Obito cradled his chin with his hand, his elbow propped on his knee. “Oh, we won’t will we?”
“Wipe that smirk off of your face.” Sasori pursed his lips and narrowed his eyes. He would have to deal with that cocky grin later. “I’ve tolerated you for four months already, who’s to say I won’t tolerate you for longer.”
“Tolerating me is what you’ve been doing, huh?” Obito snickered. “I feel so loved.”
“Oh, shut up.” This time Sasori only rolled his eyes as Obito wrapped an arm around his shoulder and pulled him closer.
At times it could be overwhelming, the intensity that Obito loved. It was a completely new experience and although it was nerve wracking the first few weeks of their courtship, the two had settled into an easy rhythm. It took Obito a week to leave his bed after their first night; Sasori should have taken that as a sign of how things would turn out for them.
“If you’re done flirting,” Ino approached them, features cooled into a business like appearance, “we want to go to the haunted house.”
“What? You haven’t committed enough minor criminal acts for one night?” Sasori eyed the shrimpy blond kid. “Vandalism and theft not enough, we have to add breaking and entering?”
“Hey! I bought those mints and that cola.” Naruto’s face scrunched up into an ugly pout before it finally dawned on him what Sasori had said. “There’s a real haunted house!?”
“Okay, down boy.” Ino grabbed Naruto by the scruff of his neck and kept him from tackling the adults in his excitement. “We’re not going to some abandoned house, we’re going much more commercial here. There’s a haunted house set up nearby that we technically can’t go to unless we have adults with us.”
“That doesn’t sound reassuring.”
“Sounds fun!” Obito stood up, pulling Sasori up with him. “Where is it?”
“Can I talk to you for a sec?” Sasori tugged on Obito’s hand until they were a far enough distance from the kids that they could speak in private while still keeping an eye on them. “Obito it’s late. We should be taking them back to your aunt’s house and then we should be going back to my apartment.”
“Come on,” Obito pleaded, “it will be fun! And it will be the last thing we do tonight with the kids. Besides, I’m sure that they’ll probably chicken out before we even go inside.”
“Last thing?”
“Yep!”
“And then we go home?”
“And we can do whatever you want.” Obito winked. “Come on. It will be quick and then we’ll be home before you know it.”
.
.
Obito was avoiding looking at him. Whenever they caught each other’s eyes he would grin sheepishly and rub the back of his neck and then go back to looking at the bars of the holding cell.
“Home before we know it, huh?” Sasori hissed from his seat on the bench. The cell was extremely full, but one look from him and the previous occupant had vacated the seat.
Obito wasn’t as lucky and was forced to stand in a corner. He used his position to keep an eye on the kids whom were sitting on a bench at the opposite side of the room.
“Let’s be fair. I’m not the reason we had the cops called on us.”
“But I’m not the reason we were in that stupid haunted house in the first place!” Sasori ran his hands down his face and sighed. He would gladly take idiot grad students and their keg stands right now.
The haunted house had been a stupid idea. It wasn’t as terrifying as Sasori had expected, but then again a group of ten year olds and one nine year old were probably going to be more afraid than he was considering he was used to more horrifying special effects and makeup. It came with his job.
The screaming he could handle. The hand holding wasn’t so bad. Sasori had spent most of the night holding hands with the little girls anyway. It was when a little hand had disappeared from his grasp that he had began to panic.
Sakura had screamed a moment later and Sasori found her being carried away by one of the performers. Which was how he and Obito now found themselves in a holding cell at the police station.
“What are you laughing at?” Sasori snapped. Obito had broken out into a peal of laughter. He pointed somewhere beyond where Sasori could see even standing up. “Really? I’m like a foot shorter than you, I can’t see shit.”
“Itachi and company are being brought in right now. I wonder what they did.”
“Okay, that’s kind of funny. What could your dorky cousin have done?”
“Oh, I can’t wait to see Uncle Fugaku’s face.” Obito continued to laugh. “It will make sitting here overnight worth it.”
“What? We’re not staying overnight.”
“Well, he’ll probably let you go but he’ll definitely keep me here as punishment for dragging Sasuke around past his bedtime and getting him caught up in this.” Sasori must have let his confusion slip on his face because Obito laughed even harder than earlier before finally explaining. “My uncle is the police captain.”
“Jesus Christ,” Sasori exhaled. “Is there any family member of yours I won’t be seeing tonight?”
“Hey, this would be a good chance to introduce you to him!”
“Obito. I’m not telling your uncle we’re dating while I’m sitting in a holding cell at his precinct.”
“It would be such a funny memory to tell our kids one day though,” Obito joked.
“I wasn’t kidding about those brats turning me off from having kids one day.” Sasori pinched the bridge of his nose. “Besides, it’s way too soon to even think about that.”
“You’ve tolerated me this long,” Obito mocked him using his words from earlier that night, “I’m sure we’ll get to that point some day.”
“Only if your family doesn’t put me into an early grave,” Sasori muttered.
“At least they’re not boring, right?”
Sasori would give him that. He hadn’t had a moment to rest the whole night, let alone a moment to relax enough to get bored. It didn’t mean he wanted a repeat though.
“Next Halloween, we’re staying in and watching movies.”
