I don't know if you've answered this question before, but do you have favorite Phantom/Christine pairings?

I have answered it before, but not too recently, so maybe it's time to make a big ole updated masterpost of all my favorites as of now!

Keep in mind that if a name isn't on here, it doesn't mean they're not a favorite or whatever, it might just mean I never saw them with a Phantom or Christine I particularly liked (e.g. Gina Beck is an all-time favorite but she's not on here because I never really saw her opposite a Phantom I also really enjoyed) or I preferred a slightly different pairing (e.g. I really liked Franc D'Ambrosio with Lisa Vroman but I slightly preferred the latter with Brad Little). And there may be one or two where I could not decide at all (e.g. do I prefer Kelly Mathieson with David Thaxton or Josh Piterman? I can't tell!). Anyway, here they are:

Michael Crawford/Sarah Brightman - The OG cast. It can't be helped, they both had such unique takes on the role and it makes them one of the most memorable pairings for me.

Dave Willetts/Jan Hartley Morris - His rougher take on the mold that Crawford left vs. Jan Hartley Morris's old-school, classical Christine is a winner.

Mikael Samuelson/Elisabeth Berg - I love Samuelson's slightly harsher vocals compared to Berg's operatic tones.

Alexander Goebel/Luzia Nistler - Goebel is eerie, ghostly, and unhinged at the end; Nistler has a lovely classical voice and a scared, slightly naive take on her Christine. It fits well.

Davis Gaines/Tracy Shayne - Gaines is commanding, sensual, elegant; Shayne is innocent but with a touch of maturity that brings a certain uniqueness to the role.

Saulo Vasconcelos/Irasema Terrazas - Hands! I think both were allowed a lot of freedom in the role and it's great.

Hans Peter Janssens/Ineke van Klinken - Janssens is both very nuts and very sad while van Klinken is a reserved yet steely-willed Christine who is more than a match for him.

Ian Jon Bourg/Alison Kelly - Bourg is good with so many Christines, but I loved Alison Kelly's feistiness.

Michael Nicholson/Olivia Safe - Just a fascinating pairing, and they were both understudies!

Yoon Young Seok/Hye Kyoung Lee - It didn't matter that both were speaking Korean, they were so emotional that I felt like I understood every aspect of their performance.

Brad Little/Lisa Vroman - Kind of mentioned above, but I love how well these two act together.

Hugh Panaro/Julie Hanson - Hugh Panaro is a sarcastic jokester of a man and it makes you really feel for Julie Hanson's child-like Christine at the end of the show.

Gary Mauer/Elizabeth Southard - A real-life married E/C couple brings all the chemistry!

Earl Carpenter/Rachel Barrell - Barrell is also really good with JOJ, and more spirited around him, but I love Earl Carpenter more.

John Cudia/Jennifer Hope Wills - Oh the sparks these two brought to the role! Cudia was scary and dominating but JHW was absolutely able to hold her own against him.

Simon Pryce/Julie Goodwin - The voices of these two!

Marcus Lovett/Anna O'Byrne - Leroux-accuracy heaven.

Jeremy Stolle/Samantha Hill - Again, I've seen these two give fantastic performances with multiple performers, but I really do love what they bring to the show together.

Tomas Ambt Kofod/Sibylle Glosted - Very detailed, nuanced performances in a production that was full of it.

Jonathan Roxmouth/Meghan Picerno - There was fire between these two! Roxmouth was intent on bending Christine to his will but Picerno was so fiercely independent that you knew he could never succeed.

Jeon Dong Seok/Son Ji-soo - JDS is a swoon-worthy Phantom while SJS brought lovely expressions to the role.

And I'm sure there are many others...

WIELERKNECHT HENK OP KOERS IN HET LIGHT VERSE

Is Henk een brokkenpiloot. Een ongeluksvogel? Je zal het denken, de titel op het omslag van het wielerboekje dat aan hem is opgedragen beschouwend. De k van zijn naam valt, neemt een vlucht. Van de koers? In een ravijn? Henk zelf echter fietst vrolijk berg op in zijn fleurig oranje tricot. Met zijn witte petje steekt hij monter af tegen de bergflank in de achtergrond van zijn rit. In die houding en dat silhouet heeft hij wat weg van Jan Janssen of Joop Zoetemelk. Het is geen luchtfietser die Henk. Hij weet waar hij het over heeft. Hij staat met beide voeten stevig op de pedalen. In een criterium staat hij zijn mannetje en in de tour is hij een uitgelezen knecht. Hij gaat niet voor geel, maar koerst achterin het peloton als een soort van ranglijstduwer. Samen met compagnon en teamgenoot Han blijven ze voor de bezemwagen uit en beleven noemenswaardige avonturen.

De humor van een Gerrie Knetemann loert aan de meet. Ligt als een adder onder het gras in de berm. U merkt wel beste lezer, mijn kennis van het wielerlandschap heeft het millennium niet gehaald. Ik ben blijven steken tussen de spaken van die klassieke legendarische renners. De wielergoden die tot de verbeelding spreken en door de toekomst zijn ingehaald. De humor van die roemruchte Kneet hebben Henk en Han geërfd. Althans wordt hen toegedicht door een twaalftal poëten die lichtvoetig uit hun woorden komen. De zinnen rangschikken tot dynamische vlugschriften. Met de snelheid van een afdaling vervliegen de korte gedichten in de tijd. Daarom hebben twee dichtende wielerfanaten deze verzameld en tot een handzaam boekje samengesteld.

Deze vederlichte verzen die Henk toejuichen langs de lijn zijn in techniek een vervolg op de door dichter Peter Knipmeijer bedachte topo's. Met die in een keurslijf gegoten dichtvorm zijn de beoefenaars vrij zich in woorden over de aardbol te bewegen. Een voorbeeld? Welnu, van liedjessmid Rikkert Zuiderveld dan een exemplaar: “In ’t Ouwehandse dierenparadijs / zijn alle dieren danig van de wijs. / Zelfs op de apenrots staan zij te wenen / en klinkt het oude lied ‘Waarvoor, waa RHENEN’.” Het is de bedoeling namelijk dat de topo inhoud heeft en relateert aan een plaats, rivier of landstreek op de wereldkaart. Die plaats, in dit geval Rhenen waar het dierenpark is gevestigd - met een schermafdruk van Google Maps, vormt fonetisch het slot van het vierregelig gedicht. Die plaats verliest daarmee de topografische betekenis en gaat op in het plezierdicht.

Want dat is wat het is, een lolletje tussendoor, een afleiding voor de serieuze dichter. Zich zwoegend in het zweet des aanschijns om een creatief resultaat te bereiken omdat de uitgever smacht een nieuwe bundel uit te brengen of het maandblad regelmatig een actueel gedicht verlangt en het weekblad in een bijlage het politieke landschap in rijm op de korrel wil nemen. Tussen al die serieuze verwachtingen is het een verademing eens een frivoliteit te dichten. Dat kon al in de vorm van het lichte vers, light verse, en bijvoorbeeld het ollekebolleke of de limerick. Maar nu is daar de topo bij gekomen. En meteen al na de lancering heeft deze vorm een vlucht genomen. Kon er al vrij snel een bundel worden samengesteld met verzameld topo-werk.

De topo heeft als medium het platform Facebook om gepubliceerd te worden. Maar de social media zijn vluchtig, dus is een geprinte uitgave een middel om de topo vast te houden en niet te laten verdampen op het internet. Nu is er een tweede boekwerkje, dat als onderwerp of thema de Tour de France heeft. In de bundel zijn zogenoemde vervolgtopo's opgenomen, omdat de ene dichter op de andere reageert. Zo ontstaat er als het ware een sliert opeenvolgende korte gedichten. Een soort van langgerekt peloton dat door haarspeld bochten en over passen slingert. Versnelt in de afdaling en traag peddelt bij de klim.

Henk en Han ervaren de vervelende situaties van het renner zijn aan den lijve. De onhebbelijkheden die het fietsen over lange afstanden met zich meebrengt. De harde kont, de blauwe ballen, de stijve benen, het ergerlijke publiek. Het plassen onderweg, om de diarree maar niet te noemen. De stoelgang is een bijzonder probleem in de rondgang. Het wordt breed uitgemeten en gedetailleerd beschreven in “Tour de Henk”.

Door het boekje worden in 150 topo’s de ritten van de Tour gevolgd. Van de eerste tot de laatste etappe. En de rustdagen krijgen ook hun plaats. Als de schrijvende pers achter op de motor laveer ik door het peloton. Maar blijf haken achterin de ploeg waar ploeggenoten Henk en Han zich van hun beste kant laten zien. Wat zal ik graag verslag doen van de gebeurtenissen op het parcours. Over Henk die in de 3e etappe snoeihard valt en tijdens de tweede rustdag bezoek krijgt van een bus vol schrijvers. Maar daarvoor ligt die praktische uitgave dus voor. Die gekocht en gelezen moet worden. De leukste bloemlezing uit 200 verzen van een groep enthousiaste plezierdichters. De topo werkt aanstekelijk, het is een verslaving en kan nog wereldwijd doorgaan.

Toch kan ik het niet laten een enkel dicht te citeren, een vers omfloerst te declameren. Want het zijn alle pareltjes waar de zwijnen wel pap van lusten. En na de tour zijn er de rondjes om de kerk. Dus kunnen de plezierdichters deze thema-topo alom vervolgen geven. En weer val ik terug op de nestor in het peloton, Zuiderveld, die zijn etappe onlangs bij het Nederlands Kampioenschap Light Verse dichten won. Niet dat hij naast zijn schoenen kan lopen, want de rest bewegen zich tevens dynamisch in de kopgroep en koersen voor het jagende peloton uit. Een eerste plaats is snel gedeeld. ‘Maar wat een gezever, kom eens tot een punt’, hoor ik u hardop denken. ‘Al die bla-bla en dat gezwets komt jouw artikel niet ten goede.’ Okay dan, een topo in etappe 4: “Soms dromen Henk en Han van het verleden. / De tijd dat ze nog koppelkoersen reden: / ‘In Frankrijk had men destijds nog bezwaren / omdat men dacht dat wij een koppe LOIRE’.” En om af te kicken van de tourtopo-doping een kunststukje heet van de naald: “Een goed gevoerde wielerbroek is fijn / als middel tegen zak- en zadelpijn, / al heb je na wat jaren geen probleem meer / dan is je hele achterwerk van z EEM LEER.”

Cine: Close (2022)

Léo (Eden Dambrine) y Rémi (Gustav De Waele) han construido una amistad entrañable desde la más tierna infancia, tanto que hasta sus respectivas familias los consideran parte de ellas. Ambos se han acostumbrado a prodigarse gestos de indisimulable afecto que empiezan a despertar suspicacias entre sus nuevos compañeros de escuela secundaria. A partir de aquí, surge en Leo la necesidad de despegarse de la idea cada vez más generalizada de que a ambos los une una dimensión del amor que excede la mera amistad.

Extenderse aquí en la narración sería un flaco favor a la experiencia del espectador, ya que ésta da un giro inesperado que trastoca lo, en principio, casi idílico de la historia. El filme del belga Lukas Dhont (director de “Girl”, 2018, cuya reseñas puedes leer en este blog) se ha ganado con justicia el reconocimiento en los grandes festivales de cine, como Cannes (Grand Prix), el Festival de Cine de Sidney, el Festival Internacional de Cine en Chicago o el National Board of Review a la Mejor Película Extranjera; también ha sido nominado al Critics Choice, el Golden Globe y Premios Oscars de la Academia de Hollywood.

Además de los ya mencionados, la película cuenta con otros personajes sumamente importantes como Sophie (Émilie Dequenne) y Peter (Kevin Janssens), padres de Rémi, y Nathalie (Léa Drucker), Yves (Marc Weiss) y Charlie (Igor van Dessel), interpretando a los progenitores y al hermano mayor de Léo respectivamente.
