Last week's mail: A letter adorned with the beautiful commemorative stamp honoring the Alsatian painter Hansi (Jean-Jacques Waltz), depicting four children (in traditional Alsation costumes) and three geese walking down "La Promenade" of some unnamed village. Day of issue was October 26, 2009. I'm not sure whether Hansi would have enjoyed seeing his work mailed to Germany, a country and culture which he, for at least at his time understandable reasons, he wholeheartedly opposed. But since times and cross-national relationships have changed a lot by now, I still feel allowed to wholeheratedly welcome this gentle and bucolic scenery into my small collection of contemporaty philatelic gems.
