Welcome back to the Festival of Dread, The Splintering’s month-long celebration of all things that lurk in the shadows. Today, we’re going to do another Silent Movie Review, this time looking at The Eyes of the Mummy directed by Ernst Lubitsch.  Originally released in 1922 (in the United States, anyway), this year marks an anniversary of sorts for The Eyes of the Mummy. The Woman's Crusade
Conrad is very good as the prosecuter attorney, but we could also observe the presence of other fine actors, like Werner Krauss (as the feeble-minded man) and Harry Liedtke (as the physician). This film is unusual because it reflects the problems generated by the law that interdicts abortion. Connie has some difficult scenes in which he is superb, especially when he finds out about the drama of his fiancée. He must decide between his duty and respect for the law, and his love for the woman who would make him break his commitment. In the end, love is triumphant, but the film obviously conveys a message against the controversial law of abortion, that raised so much criticism by the time this motion picture was released in Germany, in 1926.

I’m mad with the laughing Harry Liedtke. QwQ
maybe that’s why I enjoy Ernst Lubitsch‘s films, he always made men SOOOOOOOOO lovable.
