The Many Faces Of Norman Reedus - Harry Odum, Six Ways To Sunday
Tumblr media
Summary:  A series of short one-shots based on different characters portrayed by Norman Reedus.  Harry accompanies Pinkwise to a brothel to celebrate, after proving his loyalty to his employers.
Pairing:  Harry Odum x Reader
Warnings:  Prostitution, language
Word Count:  2,073
Check out my bio for a link to my Masterlist!
Author’s Note:  Six Ways To Sunday is a weird film.  I found it pretty hard to warm to most of the characters, and only Norm’s little baby face kept me watching.  However, the brothel scene is where I really felt for him.  So, in this little ficlet, you’re a hooker.  I hope that’s okay!  And poor Harry doesn’t quite know what he wants.  Enjoy!
*****
It was always a lucrative night when Pinkwise showed up.  The elated murmurs of the other girls created a buzz of excitement as you queued in front of the single mirror in the bathroom, waiting for your turn to slick crimson over pouting lips and add another coat of mascara to spidery lashes.  Abie never came alone, always joined by several of his men, and he tipped well for the service you provided.  There had been a time when you’d felt shame about that service, parting your legs for the means to pay rent and keep yourself afloat, but that was long past, and you’d become hardened to it to the point of actually enjoying the work when the clients were respectful, gentle.  You knew how to appeal to their caring natures now, their desire to protect, to teach and lavish you with affection, widening your eyes and catching your bottom lip between your teeth, playing the innocent so that they would feel guilty if they became too forceful, too rough with you.  You were a delicate flower, and they could crush you if they lost control.  It was a risky game, but, more often than not, it worked.
Slinking out into the main room, tugging at the bottom of your dress as it danced around the tops of your thighs, you paused for a moment to take in the group of men gathered on the plush couches.  Most of the faces were familiar - regulars, dropping by whenever they had something to celebrate or commiserate - and their eyes were hungry as they roamed over you, but there was one that you didn’t recognise.  Unlike the others, his gaze was fixed on his knees, his fingers clasped tightly together in his lap, and all you could see of him was a mop of blond hair on top of a dated blue suit.  His frame was slight, and, from the hunch of his shoulders, you guessed that he was young, but you were surprised by just how young he seemed when he finally lifted his head to look your way.  His skin was pale and unlined, a bruise blossoming on his cheekbone, a dark mark against the rosy pink of his blush, and you would be surprised if he even needed to shave.  He was so out of place that you found that you couldn’t tear your attention away from him, and you kept your approach slow, so as not to alarm him, as you lowered yourself down to sit at his side.
“Hey, sweetheart,” you greeted him, only to be met with a shy glance from the most piercing blue eyes you thought you’d ever seen.  They lingered on your own for a moment, before dropping to your lips, then further south to drift over your cleavage before returning to his lap once again.  “Haven’t seen you in here before.  Your first time?”
He nodded, and Pinkwise slapped a hand on his shoulder, startling him so that he lurched forward away from the touch.
“Need one of you ladies to show my new guy here a good time,” the boss announced, and the young man visibly cringed.  “We’re celebrating!”
“Reckon I can do that,” you told him, keeping your voice low, calm and soothing.  “If I’m your type, I mean.”
“I- I don’t really have a type,” he admitted, and you smiled in encouragement, glad that he was using his words.  Watching carefully for his reaction, you reached across and slid your hand over his, lacing your fingers together when he turned his palm up instinctively in response.
“You wanna come with me?”  It was a sultry double entendre, designed to entice, but, it seemed, he was oblivious.  He nodded again, regardless, and let you coax him to his feet, drawing him along with you as you left the hum of conversation behind and headed along the corridor to the bedrooms.
Everything about him screamed reluctance, and you wondered idly if he was a virgin, but you knew better than to ask, instead, letting the door click shut behind you and motioning for him to take a seat on the bed.
“I- I don’t really know how this works.”  He spoke with a soft, lilting tone, and you found yourself warming to him and his enchanting naivety.
“It works however you want it to,” you assured him, but, if anything, that only seemed to make him more uncomfortable.  “Okay, how about we just take off our clothes and get into bed, huh?  Just see what happens?”
Another nod, and you reached for the hem of your dress, easing it up your body and tugging it over your head.  You were bare beneath the fabric, a device to save time since most of your clients were in a hurry to get you naked, but his head snapped away from you as soon as you were revealed to him, and he practically threw himself across the room, pacing nervously along the far wall.  Kicking off your heels, you scurried towards the bed and crawled beneath the covers, hiding yourself away in a bid to ease his panic.
“Hey, it’s okay.  You don’t have to look.  You don’t have to touch, if you don’t want to.  This is all on your terms.”
“Wh-what would we do if we didn’t… do that?” he asked, the tremor to his words making your heart clench for the poor boy.  You wondered what he was even doing there, but that was another question you’d learnt long ago not to ask.
“We can just talk.”
“You- you wouldn’t mind?”
“I get paid either way, sweetie.”  You shrugged.  “Like I said, you’re running this show.”
“You won’t tell?”  You dragged your fingers over your mouth, miming out zipping it closed, and he seemed to relax then, the tension leaving his broad shoulders in a loud exhale.  “Alright then.”
He moved closer, perching on the edge of the mattress, and you pulled the covers up to your chin, wrapping your fingers in the soft cotton.  “Are you…”  You tailed off when he turned his sharp gaze on you before pushing on.  “Are you not interested in women?”
“I- I don’t know.”
“Well, are you interested in men?”
“I don’t know that either,” he confessed.  “I- I think I might not be interested in anyone.  It’s not… normal, is it?”
“What’s normal?” you retorted with a giggle, and his cheeks flushed again, the colour burning up to the tips of his ears.  “Maybe you won’t know until you’ve tried, right?  Or maybe you’re a late bloomer.  Or maybe you just won’t ever be interested.  It’s nobody’s business but yours, if you ask me.”
“I am asking you.”  He twisted so that he was facing away from you, kicking off his shoes and shuffling up the bed to press his spine against the padded headboard.  “I figure you’re probably gonna know better than anybody, I mean, doing what you do.”
You swallowed hard, sneaking a hand across the space between you to take his once again, his palm clammy with sweat against your own.  “You know, this is a safe space if you want to try anything, just as an experiment or something.  Just to see…”
He stared at you for a long moment, the cogs whirring behind those beautiful blue irises, and then he nudged his nose up in what you could only assume was consent.
“Use your words, sweetheart.  I don’t wanna do anything you’re not comfortable with.”
“O-okay.”  His voice was shaking again, and you gave his fingers a tight squeeze.  “Yeah, we can… We can try.”
He was still as a statue as you closed the distance between you, frozen in place, and you gave him a final chance to push you away, lingering in his space for several long seconds before finally leaning forward and brushing your lips over his.  He jolted as if he’d been stung, and you paused, sharing breath, letting him process what was happening before, with a small sigh, he melted against you and began to kiss you back.  And it was sweet, almost too sweet, so that you found yourself inching closer and drinking him in, whimpering softly when he broke away, breathing hard.
“Well?”
“That was… nice,” he hummed, and then he was kissing you again, nervous at first before he got lost in it.  And, though you would never admit it, you were lost too, forgetting where you were, what this was, that he wasn’t yours and never would be, because he kissed you like you were fragile and precious, and it was intoxicating.  Your hands fell to the lapels of his suit jacket, and you eased it off his shoulders, tossing it to one side when it slid down the length of his arms.  His shirt went next, your fingers fumbling with the buttons and your breath catching in your throat when you took a moment to rake your eyes over the expanse of milky skin now revealed to you, toned and taut and firm to the touch.  You traced over the outline of his ribs, dipping into his naval in a tease before smoothing your palms up to his chest, where you could feel his heart racing.
“Is this okay?”
“Mmhmm.”
The button of his trousers came loose easily, the fit too big for his slim hips, and he didn’t resist when you edged them down, arching up so he could kick them off before rolling on top of you, his hands coming to rest on the curve of your waist.  And only then did you realise that something wasn’t right.  There was nothing there for you to grind against, nothing going on to suggest that he was enjoying this as much as you were, and a sad sigh escaped you before you could hold it in.  “This isn’t working for you, is it?”
He sprang away from you as if he’d been burned, retreating to the far side of the room where the lamplight didn’t quite reach, clad only in his fresh white Y-fronts, the picture of innocence, corrupted.  “Shit, I’m sorry.  I told you!  I’m not normal!”
“It’s okay.”  You longed to go to him, to wrap him up in your arms and bring his head to your chest so you could stroke his hair and soothe him, but you knew your nudity would only make him feel worse about the situation, and your dress was out of reach.  “I told you, it’s just you and me in here.  No-one else has gotta know about any of this.  I’m real good at keeping secrets.”
“You swear you won’t say anything?”
“Cross my heart.”
He was still racked with tension, but he nodded slowly, as if he wanted desperately to believe you but still wasn’t sure he actually could.  “I- I think I should go now.”
“Whatever you want.”  You watched as he dressed himself, tugging on the unflattering suit and covering up the wiry muscles and narrow hips that you wished you’d had longer to explore.  His hair was mussed up, his lips swollen from the force of your kisses, and you were pleased that it at least looked like you’d done your job, for no other reason than to spare his embarrassment.  “Hey,” you spoke up as he hurried for the door, and he stilled, apparently unable to bring himself to look back.  “What’s your name?”
For a moment, you thought he might ignore you, and he had every right to.  It wasn’t unusual for clients not to want to give up their personal information.  But in the end, he answered in a rasping whisper, that you only just caught before he disappeared out of the door.  “Harry.”
Alone, you dragged yourself from the bed, taking a second to smooth down your hair and ease your dress back over your curves, slipping your feet into the heels that pinched your toes and made the balls of your feet ache, the image of readiness for the next client that chose to while away the night in your company.
Returning to the main room to find it empty of anyone but your madam, you cleared your throat, demanding her attention.  “Hey, if that shy kid comes again - Harry - give him to me, okay?”
“Y/N, not getting attached I hope?”
You scoffed and turned away.  “Course not.”  If she saw your face, you knew she’d see right through you.  It was far easier to lie with your back turned, although you weren’t quite sure you could convince yourself.

To honor the Meredith DD-434, DD-726 (sunk off Normandy by mine 9 June 1944) and DD-890 were named in her honor. Also, seven ships were commissioned with names to honor her valiant crew. No other ship in history has had more ships named for her crew:
USS Harry E. Hubbard (DD 748) — Commanding Officer.
USS Edgar Chase (DE 16) — Executive Officer.
USS Atherton (DE 169) — Lt (jg) John Atherton, Communications Officer.
USS Cockrill (DE 398) — Lt. Dan Cockrill, First Lieutenant.
USS Naifeh (DE 352) — Lt (jg) Alfred Naifeh, Supply Officer.
USS Odum (DE 670) — Fireman Joseph Odum, who refused to leave his 20mm gun and went down with the Meredith.
USS Durik (DE 666) — Apprentice Seaman Joseph Durik, who refused medical attention so shipmates would live on.

Join us in honoring a small selection of the artistic genius, grace, strength, and beauty that abound in the spectacular African diaspora. These artists embody the revolutionary power of art that Paul Robeson described. Mentor to a young Harry Belafonte, Robeson was blacklisted from Hollywood for speaking up about racism. We stand on the shoulders of our elders as we create a future for Black people full of peace, joy, rest and abundance.

Eleanor Torrey West, Preserver of Her Inherited Island, Dies at 108 Eleanor Torrey West, who dedicated her life to preserving Ossabaw Island, a 26,000-acre inheritance off the coach of Georgia so large, lush and varied in terrain that visitors could walk among hardwood forests, palm tree stands and salt water marshes, died on Jan. 17 at her home in Savannah. She was 108. Her death was confirmed by her grandson Beryl Gilothwest. Mrs. West was a pioneer of mainstream environmental conservation, embracing it well before most Americans. In the 1960s, for instance, though struggling with the financial burden of maintaining Ossabaw Island, which her parents bought in 1924, she rebuffed lucrative offers from developers and instead sold the island to the State of Georgia for $8 million, half of the island’s appraised value. In a statement released after her death, former President Jimmy Carter, who met Mrs. West in the 1970s when he was the governor of Georgia, lauded her “dogged determination to preserve Ossabaw for future generations” even if it meant “giving up the fortune she could have realized from its development.” The third largest of Georgia’s barrier islands, Ossabaw in 1978 became the first parcel of land protected under the Heritage Trust Act, which was established in 1975 to preserve natural areas from development and allow public access for recreation and research. “She knew that if it was conveyed to the state, it belonged to the people,” Mr. Gilothwest said. “There was the possibility for her and others to apply public pressure on them to make sure that they were keeping their promise to protect the island.” While Mrs. West wanted to share the wonders of Ossabaw with others, she did not want airstrips built or a ferry route drawn to shuttle visitors there. The island is the state’s only heritage preserve that prohibits many recreational activities, according to the Ossabaw Island Foundation. “Whatever happens to one of these large islands involves the other islands,” Mrs. West told a 1968 conference on preserving Georgia’s marshlands, “and as a consequence the entire coast of Georgia, and perhaps the eastern coast of the United States.” Mrs. West lived on the island, which is accessible only by boat, until she was 103 and required a full-time caretaker. The island is home to a variety of birds, sea turtles and even feral pigs, which were believed to have been introduced by Spanish explorers in the 16th century. Mrs. West kept some of the animals as pets, including Lucky, who was injured by a hawk as a piglet; she nursed him back to health in her laundry room. “They used to go on walks around the island,” Mr. Gilothwest said, “and then he would lie down on a riverbank, and she’d lean her head on his belly and read a book.” Eleanor Ford Torrey, known to her friends as Sandy, was born on Jan. 17, 1913, in Michigan to a family of wealth and privilege. Her mother, Nell Ford Torrey, was an heiress and granddaughter of Jean Baptiste Ford, who founded the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company and Wyandotte Chemicals Corporation. Her father, Henry Norton Torrey, was a brain surgeon. During her childhood, the family split time between their home in Grosse Pointe, Mich., and Savannah. Her parents purchased Ossabaw Island as a winter retreat. Mrs. West’s love for Ossabaw was not immediate. On her first visit, she “spit on the ground and vowed never to love this island,” Elizabeth DuBose, the executive director of the Ossabaw Island Foundation, said in a phone interview. But the island grew on her, and she and her brother would abandon lessons with their tutor to explore its nearly 40 square miles of forests, fields and marshes. Mrs. West attended the Masters School, a premier finishing school in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. After her parents had died and after her brother died in 1947, she and his children inherited the island in 1959. Soon after, she returned to Ossabaw with her second husband, Clifford Bateman West, an artist, and in 1961 they founded the Ossabaw Island Project, a retreat where artists, scientists and writers could convene to share ideas and draw inspiration from the natural surroundings. The program, which lasted until 1983, drew novelists like Ralph Ellison and Margaret Atwood and composers like Aaron Copland and Samuel Barber, as well as the artist Harry Bertoia. Another participant, the biologist Eugene Odum, had a particular influence on Mrs. West, her grandson said. He would take visitors to the marsh and explain to them how the stalk-like grass collected food for fish, allowing them to thrive and in turn provide food for the entire coastal area. Developing the land could endanger the entire ecosystem, he would explain. “I think that was hugely influential on my grandmother in terms of her understanding of how important it was to preserve that land,” Mr. Glithowest said. Her marriage to Mr. West ended in divorce, as did her marriage to her first husband, John Shallcross. In addition to Mr. Gilothwest, Mrs. West is survived by three children, Gilian Ford Shallcross, John Post Shallcross and Justin Paynter West, and eight more grandchildren. Last year, a bill was introduced in the State Legislature that would have allowed for the development of up to 15 acres on each of Georgia’s more than 120 heritage preserves. Ms. DuBose, of the Ossabaw Island Foundation, said the group called on its partners to oppose the bill, which never made it out of committee. Their effort echoed Mrs. West’s fight over the decades to preserve the land. “We must consider what has been done in the past,” she wrote in a document describing her vision for the future of Ossabaw, “and we must try to see the future as a long-term concept before we alter the present. I believe man would do well to watch where he treads, as he is the only creature that leaves indelible footsteps that keep running uncontrollably without him.” Source link Orbem News #Dies #Eleanor #Inherited #Island #Preserver #Torrey #west

Black Super Hero’s
Tumblr media
 AWSUM ISLOVE / SATURDAY, DECEMBER 2, 2017
As you rave over Luke Cage, and soon Marvels’ Black Panther, Black SuperHeros have had a presence and history that out dates these two series. While this may the first time Black Superhero’s have been prominent on white owned media platforms, independent Black owned media platforms have been doing this for decades.
There are #AfrikanSuperHero movies, t.v series, & comics written, produced, directed & illustrated by actual Afrikans & the Afrikan Diaspora.
Black Comic book conventions such as E.B.A.C.C (www.ecbacc.com/wordpress4) (Yumy Odom, Founder and President)  of the largest Black Comic book convention on the East Coast was created in May 2002 in Philadelphia.  The Schomburg will be doing its 7th Annual Black Comic Book Festival in January 2018, co-produced by John Jennings. The producers of the festival are replicating it in California. In the Midwest for have MECCAcon ( https://meccacon.wordpress.com/) (founder, organizer, CEO, Maia Crown Williams)
OYA: RISE OF THE ORISHAS  is a short film originally released in July 31, 2016. Created by Nigerian-UK filmmaker, Nosa Igbinedion, it was nominated for the Efere Ozako Award for Best Short film. You can currently watch the new installment, YEMOJA:Rise of the Orishas, on demand via the website.
Tumblr media
This generation of Black-African Super Hero creators has done what #SidneyPoitier #HarryBelafonte, #RubyDee, #OssieDavis, The Black Arts Movement, & many more have done before them. Most millennials, born between 1980-1999, only know Ruby & Ossie as the old couple from Spike Lee’s, “Do the Right Thing” film. What you probably don’t know is that they owned/operated a production co. for audio recorded cassettes of music and ent. Emmalyn II Productions Co., Inc. and a business consulting service Dee-Davis Enterprises in 2010. Ossie was a film, television and Broadway actor, director, poet, playwright, author, and civil rights activist. Ruby was an actress, poet, playwright, screenwriter, journalist and civil rights activist.
Tumblr media
Ivan Dixon, director of “The Spook Who Sat by the Door” in 1970, was an actor, director & producer from 1957 to 1991 . Brock Peters, producer of 1970 film “Five on the Black Hand Side” made his film debut in Carmen Jones in 1954, and sang background vocals on the 1956 hit "Day-O" by Harry Belafonte. He did voice overs in Batman: the animated series, and Darth Vador for the radio adaptation of the original Star Wars trilogy for National Public Radio (1981-1986).
White owned media saw the mass amounts of money that was being made by independent Black owned business & entrepreneurs that contribute to African diaspora characters. Not only was it making money, but it was taking money from their pockets as #BlackConsumers went to their own for empowering images of themselves. Prior to this, they cared nothing of us (and still don’t) only our money.
A living, elevated example of that transition, is Pamela Thomas. Culminating her collection as an adult, she looks back at her childhood. Disappointed with the  lack of empowering Black representation, if any,  in main stream comics, she looked elsewhere...and found it!  The Museum of Uncut Funk, (http://museumofuncutfunk.com/) is an online digital museum of BlackSuper Heros, She-rah’s, & paraphernalia that, “ celebrate[s] our contribution to history year round!” Everything from Fat Albert, The Jackson 5 cartoon, Mr. T comics, The Harlem Glob Trotters cartoon, and stuff I never knew existed. Her traveling exhibit, “ Funk Turns 40: Black Character Revolution” debuted at The Schomburg in 2014. That exhibition also eye-marked a new curation style for the Schomburg center; the walls were painted in bright solid colors dipping the viewer inside the luscious array of diversity and beauty, that is Black culture. It was this authors official introduction to Black Characters & the History of Black Characters. Since then, everything in regards to Black characters on t.v. and advertisements, failed in comparison. We have set a very high bar. That bar, is the norm for the independent Black image creators. Since then, everything in regards to Black characters on t.v. and advertisements, failed in comparison. We have set a very high bar. That bar is the norm for the independent Black image creators mentioned in this article.
“ Since then, everything in regards to Black characters... failed in comparison. We have set a very high bar. That bar, is the norm for the independent Black image creators...”
And again, my people have drunk the Koolaid of a white owned representation of something Black, thinking it will be "sweeter" & “cooler” than what we create for ourselves. This is a falsehood, (& an act of cultural treason) that must stop. Wanting Black content is not enough. We have to want ourselves.
* Pay Attn  to the Dates.* Your vision got drowned out by the white accredited version of a Black Superhero. (HHHmmmm) Their approval is not necessary for us to be fabulous, amazing, talented, disciplined, successful, & valued.
The best pple to represent our stories is US! And it is EXCELLENT!

Civic groups join make Houston Stronger, address flood concerns
Officials from the city of Houston and Harris County discussed flood control issues at the Houston Stronger Conference May 31 at the West Houston Institute and encouraged residents to vote in the Aug. 25 bond election.
Houston Stronger is an alliance of civic groups, business associations and citizens from the Texas Gulf Coast area whose objective is to work with government officials to put in place a comprehensive flood control plan to protect citizens and property.
Marvin Odum, city of Houston chief recovery officer, said approximately 350,000 housing units in the city were significantly damaged as result of Harvey, and Russ Poppe, Harris County Flood Control District executive director, said about 31,000 structures in unincorporated Harris County were damaged.
Poppe said the county has been working with the Natural Resources Conservation Service, an arm of the United States Department of Agriculture that has been leading the way in making repairs to infrastructure, as well as the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
US President Donald Trump has arrived in Texas to survey the response to devastating Tropical Storm Harvey, the first major natural disaster of his White House tenure, as officials in Houston struggled to manage the record-breaking rains. You can watch his visit live, below. The slow-moving storm has brought catastrophic flooding to Texas, killed at least nine people, led to mass evacuations and paralyzed Houston, the fourth most-populous U.S. city. Some 30,000 people were expected to seek emergency shelter as the flooding entered its fourth day. Officials in Harris County, where Houston is located, said reservoirs built to handle drainage water were beginning to overflow on Tuesday. They urged residents to evacuate as they released water to alleviate pressure on two dams, a move that would add to flooding along the Buffalo Bayou waterway that runs through the area. Officials in Brazoria County, south of Houston, also called for immediate evacuations around a levee Columbia Lakes that had been breached by Harvey’s floodwaters. Some 3,500 people already have been rescued from high waters in the Houston area with police, firefighters and National Guard troops continuing to try to locate those marooned in high waters.

“Both of those agencies have come to our area. They’ve seen the devastation. We’ve had boots on the ground, not only with their staff but ours as well. And we’ve cataloged a wide range of repairs that have to get done,” Poppe said.
He estimated the county will need more than $150 million to remove debris from and make repairs to channels and said it has already spent around $14 million of local money on highly necessary repairs but needs the money from federal sources to come through for other projects.
Odum said both the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and Congress have appropriated $5 billion in housing funds for Texas and that $2.5 billion of that will come to the Houston and Harris County areas through the Community Development Block Grant Program.
He said the first of the larger amounts of money should start to arrive around August and that changes need to be made so that future work could move faster.
“The disaster recovery system itself is several decades old now, and over time, you know what happens, something gets abused or doesn’t go right, a new layer of check and balance and so forth gets layered on. You do that for several decades, and you end up with a system that works, but it takes an incredibly long period of time,” Odum said. “That’s why I say now is the opportunity, certainly after 2017 with all the disasters we had, to redesign that federal system from top to bottom, all the way to the locality level. [I estimate] you could at least cut the time in half.”
Poppe urged all residents in the region to get flood insurance, regardless of whether they live in a floodplain.
“I’d be remiss if I didn’t take this as an opportunity to remind everybody you absolutely need to have flood insurance, even if you live outside the marked floodplain, because many of our areas that flood aren’t always marked by a floodplain,” he said.
Although the region had experienced multiple floods in recent years, Harvey was different because of the widespread impact, said Harris County Judge Ed Emmett. He said the region’s communities must become more resilient through working at preventing and planning for disasters, responding and recovering when they do happen and by using resources and policies that make flood control a priority.
“Categorically — I’ve been in and around public life for quite a while — this is the most important issue that has faced our community in my lifetime. We either get this right, or we’re going to see our entire community begin to atrophy. It won’t go away” Emmett said. “But we will be seen as a flood-prone area, and we will be seen at risk. Companies won’t want to come here, and our people won’t feel safe. So we have to get this right. From now on, resilience is job one.”
When asked about the state’s “rainy day fund,” which is officially known as the Economic Stabilization Fund, Emmett said “If Harvey wasn’t a rainy day, I don’t know what is” and that he hoped the state legislature will access some of the funds when they meet in January.
He stressed the importance of citizens’ voting in the Aug. 25 bond election for approximately $2.5 billion for flood control projects and said the issue goes beyond party politics.
“This isn’t about partisan elections. This isn’t about who serves in what office. This is about what we are going to do as a community going forward,” Emmett said.
He said the County Commissioners Court is expected to approve the bond election June 12. His office plans to hold public engagement meetings in all 23 of the county’s watersheds so that it can hear public opinion, Emmett said.
“We’re there to have a conversation. I am willing, and my staff is willing, because we’ve got to have everybody buy in,” Emmett said. “I don’t want this election to be close. I want this election to be an absolute slam-dunk because everybody says, ‘You know what? We ain’t going to let this happen again.’ That’s what that Aug. 25 bond election is all about.”
