I've been thinking a lot about the lessons of the Weimar republic and the backstabbing of the Spartacists by the liberal career politicians within the Socdems but... never in my life did I think I'd see it happening right in front of my eyes.

Like yeah we don't have any kind of revolution, I know it's not a perfect analogy, but for a brief moment it felt like there was hope right before the Democrats fucking stupidly decided to stick to their worst fucking playbook for reasons I literally cannot comprehend outside of either A) speaking to an investor congregation or B) deliberate messaging sabotage at the last minute, like theyre fixers for a horse race.

I think defensive voting for domestic policy I think is still the only reasonable (though dogshit) praxis left available, but watching the DNC spool up to full blue-fascism has genuinely made me struggle to put even that out.

They opened with ostensibly left leaning politicians like AOC, had people like Hasanabi streaming and doing interviews with progressive congress members, letting Shawn Fain speak... and then hasan was kicked out of the streaming room they gave him, and Harris started doing hawk shit, and they had on a Michigan sheriff to celebrate police budget inflation, and then they hyped up Biden's NATO talking points, they let crowd members beat on the BDS protestors, denied a Palestinian American speaker, doing "both sides-ism" on israel on stage, like... what an insane fucking pivot.

It was a hard ass pivot too! People were chanting! They were just about damn near banging on fucking drums!

It's like they went "yeah yeah whatever, progressives just get in there and say some shit before anyone notices. okay cool now get the fuck out."

returning to american politics for a sec, my 100% unwanted thoughs on the aoc "tax the rich" dress is just that its a good message from a well-intentioned person who is getting blasted for whats essentially just "bad optics" or cringe. which yeah, sure, it kinda is.

we already had the conversation on how silly it is to expect leftists to personally be poor to advocate for wealth redistribution, and i think there's also a kernel of envy (stay with me!) and spite where spreading awareness of your own class position has become unpopular. even if using your position of privilege, critiquing the rich while "looking" rich is basically unwanted now, as far as optics goes.

what i mean by envy is not that the rich arent too rich, they are... but yknow, aoc wants to tax them. thats not the discussion. no one wants to acknowledge that one reason the left eats its own is that some are a bit envious that someone on the left is more popular or rich than themself while spreading a left-ish message, so they moan about how much more selfless and lefty they personally are than her. same situation as hasanabi's house. even if they never hide their privilege and want the rich to pay, just "looking" rich makes people uncomfortable. it's PR drama. essentially, this video.
