i feel like everyone knows about Figure Me Out but it was one of the first fics i read in this fandom & honestly tangentially inspiration for writing Sentido (that whole tangible inhumanity kind of idea). i should reread it sometime. im very behind on the sequel but im thinking about working on reading it so i can have smth that has good characterization. genuinely some of the best vash characterization ive seen. Sooooooooooo good

theres kinder, gentler WHICH i actually was absolutely ABSOLUTELY obsessed with a giant haikyuu fic this person wrote back in the day, so seeing them get into trigun was an Absolute gift for me. one of the best trigun longfic there are imo with fun characterizations & WONDERFUL writing. one of my favorite instances of Knives Domestication too, aka he's still very thorny and does not like humans but he is Making An Effort (after centuries and centuries of work). this fic rly embodies the spirit of trigun to me tbh, if it was something... well... kinder and gentler. very silly and very sad at times, but also hopeful. what a fic <3

i was very very very obsessed with Trillium and Ivy. read the entire thing in one day. & honestly shoutout to them for writing such a long fic back b4 the trigun renaissance. Dedication. it's been a bit since ive read it but i remember really enjoying how they wrote Vash's disability in a modern setting. not just handwaving away the prosthetic as some super high-tech thing. and also addressing the utter horror that his recovery from such a serious accident wouldve been. honestly i might reread it sometime, ive forgotten a lot of it and it was SO fucking good. genuinely i was obsessed. highly recommend it.

1. when you fell off the swings in first grade

you were in first grade. it was your favorite time of the day, recess, and you had giddily run out onto the playground. you immediately ran to your favorite swing; you’ve always adored the feeling of flying in the air. while you were there, you spotted a couple of older girls come up to the swing set as well. one girl swung oh-so-high and performed an impressive flip off the swing. you were in awe. determined to prove that you could be just as cool as the older girls, you pushed yourself and swung as high as you can. the ground looks awfully far from here, you remember thinking. the next thing you know, you had let go of the chains on the side of the seat and was now tumbling through the air, at the mercy of gravity. it was only then that you remembered the sharp wooden chips that line the playground. you closed your eyes shut, ready to brace for impact when you felt your body slam against a soft...person? 

“ow. you shouldn’t do that! don’t you know how dangerous it is? if i wasn’t here, you would’ve died! i saved your life!” a squeaky voice blabbered from the boy that you were currently lying on top of. 

“huh? thanks, i guess you did save my life! want to be friends?” you put on your best puppy eyes and extended a small hand to the boy. he wasn’t much taller, but he had a comforting, protective aura. 

“sure!! I’m nishinoya yuu,” he grinned.

2. when you didn’t have anyone to sit next to at lunch

it was the first day of fifth grade. your best friend had recently moved away, leaving you with nobody to sit with at lunch. noya had grown up; his daredevil mindset, athleticism, and good looks made him popular amongst both boys and girls in your grade. yet there you were, pathetic, friendless, and sitting alone at lunch. burying your face in your lunch box, you felt your face begin to grow warm, and a familiar feeling of something in your throat sneaked up as you tried your hardest to keep the tears from sliding down your cheeks. out of nowhere, a loud metallic noise of something slamming down against the aluminum table interrupted your weeping. you looked up tentatively to find noya and his lunchbox, grinning at you from across the table. 

“did you really think i would let you sit alone at lunch?”

3. when you were rejected by your crush

“hahah, y/n has a crush on a third year!” “did you really think an older boy would be into you? how sad!”

it was the tormenting middle school years. somehow, the news that you had sent a letter confessing your crush to the captain of the soccer team had been spread all throughout the school. you could hear the snickers and whispers as you walked through the hallway. he was so attractive, and you were convinced that he even flirted with you a couple times when you watched his practice. but when he came storming up to you with a threatening gaze and all his friends trailing behind him sneering at you, you were terrified and ran to the girl’s bathroom. how did this all even happen? you didn’t dare to come out from the stall until you heard a familiar voice calling to you from outside the bathroom door. 

“y/n! please hurry and come outside, i’m not supposed to be in here and if they catch me i’d be dead meat.” noya pleaded.

“they all hate me,” you mumbled.

“no they don’t! please. I just want to talk to you, i’m your best friend! c’mon,” he begged. reluctantly, you picked up your bag and stepped out of the small, depressing stall. noya’s usually bright demeanor had been replaced with one of concern and oddly, determination. he pulled you into a storage closet, and shut the door quietly. “listen, y/n, what that guy did to you was messed up. he’s probably just insecure, and he definitely doesn’t deserve someone like you. you are so special, and loved, and absolutely adored , and i will fight anyone who says otherwise.” he declared confidently.

“but what if i never find my soulmate? i don’t know if i deserve to be loved,” you spoke softly.

“then i’ll be your prince charming,” was the last thing he said before he pressed his soft lips against yours.

4. when he walked you home in the rain

the searing feeling of his lips lingered on your mind. after he kissed you, you couldn’t stop thinking about noya. was he letting you borrow his pencil because he liked you? or was he just genuinely being a nice person? what about when he gave his last quarter for a drink from the vending machine? when he asked you to help him study for the upcoming quiz? everything about your friendship became a confusing and blurry mess. regardless, you couldn’t be prouder of your best friend. nishinoya was finally being recognized for his hard work and talent in volleyball, and he had even won the award for best libero. you always went to support him at his games, and today was no exception. his team had fought tenaciously, and everyone was determined to place in the tournament. they were in the final set against kitagawa daiichi when a realization hit you. he had become so good at volleyball, you weren’t sure if this was the same boy who complained about digging drills two years ago. was this talented, attractive, and popular volleyball player really your nishinoya? clearly, he was too good for you. tired of the overbearing negative thoughts from your overthinking, you walked out of the gym only to find that the sky has decided to cry. the droplets pitter and patter against the pavement, and you mentally curse at yourself for not remembering to bring an umbrella. hoping that you could wait out the rain, you sat on the cool metal bench that was outside the gymnasium.

 "hey, we won! did you see me save that one ball? it was like WHOOSH! and then KABAM! and i went BOOM! and," nishinoya beamed, but he trailed off when he noticed your mindless stare at the street.”huh? Hey, are you okay? did something happen?” he stammered, trying to think back to all the possible things that could’ve upset you.

“no no no, please dont worry about me, noya-san. enjoy your victory; i’m really happy for you!” you faked a grin. he raised an eyebrow, but decided not to press further.

“come on, i’ll walk you home. we can share my umbrella,” he tugged at your hand, and reluctantly, you went along with him. 

the streets of miyagi was busy despite the weather. bikers and pedestrians crammed the sidewalk as everyone tried to get home quickly.

"why does he even like me?” you asked yourself under your breath.

“because you’re there for me. always. we’ll always have each other” he replied nonchalantly. you jumped.

“shoot, did you hear that?” you panicked. 

“of course! i answered your question.” he wasn’t even a bit bothered. “even though you’re usually pretty subtle about it, i know you care about me. like when you give up lunch to help me study, or always giving me a bottle of water after waiting for my practice to end.” he looked off to the side, a bit embarrassed. i’m really grateful for the little things you do. and i know that, uh, what happened the other day, i should’ve asked you first. i’m sorry, i wasn’t thinking with my head. if you don’t like me back like that, i totally understand. we can still be friends” 

“you were thinking with your heart,” you mumbled. “i don’t know if i’m ready for a relationship yet. i don’t want to risk what we have.”

“ok! that’s fine by me. pinky promise that we’ll be friends forever no matter what?” he held out his hand.

“deal.” you grasped his pinky with yours.

5. when you believed in him in a moment where he didn’t

before anyone could realize, the year had flown by and it was time for everyone to pick a high school. noya ended up choosing to attend karasuno, an old volleyball powerhouse that was near his house. thanks to tedious hours of studying, you were chosen to attend shiratorizawa on a scholarship. 

“i’m proud of you. i knew you were smart and you would get in! you have so much potential ahead of you. thank you for spending the past 8 years with me.” he began, but was cut off when you buried your face into the crook of his neck and cried.

“stop, the graduation is already hard enough, don’t make me even sadder,” you sputtered through tears. the private academy had strict rules about phones so contacting any of your friends outside the high school would be a challenge. 

after bidding him a tearful goodbye, you didn’t see him again.

that was, until your second year of high school

when you heard that the glorious nishinoya yuu and the reborn powerhouse of karasuno has the chance to play against the elite shiratorizawa academy, you couldn’t help but wonder how he was doing after all these years.

nishinoya was scanning the stand for your familiar face. “ i wonder how y/n is doing. did she make new friends? does she have someone to sit with at lunch?” he couldn’t help but feel protective of you. after all, you were like a sister to him. soon, the ref blew the whistle that signaled the start of the game. the bright lights, the polished floor, and the enthusiastic cheers were all at the back of his mind. right now, he only has one job: to keep the ball in the air and keep the game going. however, ushijima’s serves proved to live up to its reputation. spike after spike, the foreign spin of the ball combined with the powerful accuracy was a challenge to receive.

noya was exhausted, in pain, and mentally beating himself up. he had one job, and as the libero, if he can’t even receive a serve, what is he doing? he felt like he was letting the team down, and a familiar feeling of guilt began to weigh heavily in his heart.

that’s when he saw you in the karasuno stands, holding up a poster with his face on it and the words “thank you for having our back” drawn in bold letters. you had the biggest smile, and was waving excitedly. you didn’t care if you were betraying your school; you were so grateful for all the times he was there for you, and you owed him at least this. you had spent all night making the poster, carefully coloring in every letter with the utmost precision. this was your way of saying “i believe in you. go be that talented, amazing person you are.”

that’s when he decided that no matter what comes his way, he’ll dig up every spike, save every ball, and win every game for you. because nishinoya yuu won’t let you down.

• also, you need not look further for someone loyal and trustworthy because Shin-ah is the perfect example of those traits. no one will cherish you like he does. for you he'd go to the moon and back ♡︎

• he's a little difficult to understand sometimes but over time you learn to read his body language and tone of voice to determine how he's feeling. your bond exceeds the limits of words. it is something much deeper, almost spiritual.

• your relationship development was no doubt a long road, seeing as both of you were rather guarded at first, but i believe it was something that also brought you together.

• before you were ready to join the rest of the gang by the fire during dinners, you would sit by yourself. Shin-ah, being a shy boy but also knowing you were on your guard, began slowly sitting closer to you every time. it was little things like that which made you become closer.

• you grew together very naturally, respecting each others' boundaries until there were almost none between you two (o´ω`o)

• once to explain it to him, i think he'll be fairly good at understanding your outbursts. he lived with Ao for a long time and knows when someone is under pressure.

• he'll try his best to help you. he has a very calm energy so being about him definitely has a good influence. will very gently reach out to you to get you away from your source of anger. "Oya, let's go."

• giving you his fluff when you're cold !! if you invite him to snuggle up to you, might catch a glimpse of him holding back tears before turning away to wipe them off.

• and speaking of, napping with Shin-ah is the best experience you can ask for: he's so soft and warm, and sometimes he'll hold onto you in his sleep like a small child— gets teased by Jae-Ha about it later shhh

• poor bby gets a little insecure when someone's flirting with you or even having your attention for a little too long :( if you're comfortable with it then he just subtly sulks in the background but if not then he'll be by your side in a second to ward off the character.

• when you're feeling shy or uncomfortable he'll either pull you close to hide within his fluff or pet your head. though he doesn't speak much, his actions speak for themselves.

• he brings you flowers and puts them in your hair. the contrast of your dark hair and light petals make it look like you have a tiny garden on your head, it makes Shin-ah's heart flutter to the point you can see his blush ♡︎

• your dates include romantic moonlit walks in a forest, firefly viewing, napping, making flower crowns and exploring new towns you travel to !!

• i know for a fact Lev would l o v e your innovative and curious way of thinking as an intp-t !! also you're chill but don't open up much at first so that raises his curiosity towards you.

• you were classmates but hung around in too different circles to interact properly until . . . you both fell asleep in the same class. the teacher sent you to the corridor to think about your actions.

• while you were feeling embarrassed, Lev was a little cranky that his nap was interrupted and how sleepy he still was. he told you there was nothing to be embarrassed about since it was school in the first place that made you tired.

• despite your differences in personality (and you finding him kind of intimidating), Lev was super friendly and kept talking about volleyball and asking you questions. even afterward he came to talk to you because he honestly found you so pretty and smart and wanted to get to know you more ♡︎

• you soon noticed it was easy to trust him but it wasn't until another while that he asked you out. of course, he wanted to do it sooner but both Kuroo and Yaku said to make sure you were completely comfortable with him first.

• he brought you over to watch when they were having a practice match with Fukurodani. it was great.

• but you know he can be such a blabbermouth sometimes. when he's with the rest of the Nekoma team he can't help but talk about you. how excited you are about your interests, how adorable you are when you're napping, the list never ends, oh dear (¯∇¯٥)

• the boys can't decide whether it's cute or cringe that he has like a hundred pictures of you on his phone and his phone's background is a selfie of the two of you with edited cat ears and whiskers.

• spoiler: it's cute af and it makes him grin everytime he looks at it

• if there aren't any upcoming exams or games you meet up every saturday just to laze around and take it easy. when he gets stressed or is under the weather so being with you is the perfect relief.

when you went on a school trip to a beach resort and after a long day of playing beach volleyball and hanging out with friends you two sneaked out to walk along the beach. you were sharing some snacks and chatting away. it was the first time you truly opened up to him. he remembers watching you smile so wide, so beautifully and being absolutely whipped.

as much as he l o v e s napping with you, Lev's favourite activity together is, in fact, training. sounds strange, i know, but you don't even have to be athletic or do anything at all, he just likes having you there because you motivate him to do his best. you joke around, and count his pushups—if you're in a gym everyone else is jelly.

your stomach and cheeks. sometimes he challenges you to tickle fights just so he can peck your face with kisses or your belly. they're so soft he can't resist ♡︎

• you two fight bc he's avoiding you

• in the middle of the fight you let out a very pissed "i love you"

• you're about to cry bc it sounds like he doesn't care and then when he notices that he starts crying and says he loves you too pls dont leave him

• you laugh "i wasn't going to leave you please stop crying babe"

• he hugs you and cries on your chest until you calm him down, petting his hair, your arms around him

• will hold your hand, fingers intertwined, all the time after it happens like ALL. THE. TIME.

what’s your favorite thing you’ve ever created? if you’re not an artist, that’s totally okay - baking/cooking counts (just link the recipe!!!), crafting, etc. etc.  It’s the one project I can never seem to let go of. You know it, I’ve vagued about it lmfao. But Divine Right. It’s by far the biggest thing I’ve tried to create and the most ambitious, in terms of sheer quantity of characters and world building. Whenever I think about it, I just feel super comfortable and cozy with it? Like everything I put everything I love into the project (types of characters, narratives, themes, etc) so its just a giant culmination of all of my favorite things. For me its my favorite thing to get back into because nothing about it is complete. There’s so much that can be added, and every time I come back I always have a fresh perspective I didn’t have before - a different understanding about things that make me rethink different elements of various characters and even new directions to take their stories I hadn’t thought of before! I don’t know if/when I’m ever gonna get something wholly substantial out of it, but its for sure my favorite. 

if you read fanfiction what is your fave fic? why? (if you don’t read it, why not?) the courtship ritual of the hercules beetle by kittebasu  is my favorite completed fics so far. its a adulthood au for haikyuu!! that includes the characters oikawa and iwaizumi reuniting and trying out friendship again after a pretty tumultuous friend-break up years ago (which we learn the elements of through flashbacks) while also coming to terms with new feelings they never really addressed.  this fic goddamn GETS IT. it’s not every complicated in plot, but the way it tells the story of these two characters at this stage of their lives just wrecks me in the heart. it’s not a “soulmate au” but its a story about soulmates and how (via specific flashbacks from moments in their lives) we can see how much they’ve always meant to one another. and i just wanna smother my face in this fic like a warm blanket. like i stayed up all night reading it and cried when i finished because it was just that good. 

how do you feel about travelling alone? do you think you’d enjoy a trip abroad with only yourself for company? and where do you most want to go? Not to be a pretentious ass but I think on some level I’ve always wanted just Experience the world in total privacy. I mean that’s not to say that I wouldn’t enjoy the company of others but I’m kinda always surrounded by people and I think the things I would find emotional satisfaction out of, a travelling companion might not, if that makes sense? I think everyone kinda needs that 1 solitary moment to just experience a new thing. Now of course that being said there’s things I would miss out on alone, like sharing moments of a journey, being bound in those new experiences with friends. I would only have myself to reference something back to. I’m going to Japan in May with friends which I’m REALLY excited about. But I think abroad I think I’m gonna have to steal Bee’s answers and go Faroe Islands/Iceland and even Greenland. I don’t know, I think it’s something about that sort of remoteness that demands a solitary trip. I mean what photo ho doesn’t wanna cross those places off the world list. 

tell me about a song or album that has autobiographical significance to you. Your Hand in Mine by Explosions in the Sky. I heard it the first time in 2004 on the Friday Night Lights OST and it’s just been That Song that’s always stuck with me. I remember listening to it on repeat during my parents divorce because its the only thing that could calm me down. And I dont know after 14 years (jesus Christ) that song just feels like an extension of myself. 

is there somewhere you want to go back to? could be a time or place I don’t think anywhere... I never traveled and past times in my life were usually surrounded by some sort of unhappiness so I’d rather not unpack that.

best advice you have received i think i read this on twitter but it was a something to the effect of “there’s no time limit on success”, meaning, there’s no specific time/age you have to have succeeded at XYZ or accomplished this and that.s it’s a good reminder because at 26, its very easy to compare myself to other adults my age in what they’ve accomplished and feel like I’m lagging behind or failing somehow.

Love Birds

Remember when we were so sad about Kimura leaving the haikyuu production? I wrote this and i had never posted it. So here you go. It's pretty lame, though..

Kenta sat in the empty studio totally unimpressed. The room was oddly lonely now that everyone had left. But he was glad that he was alone and so he had time for himself. He needed some alone time, mostly because he needed to prepare for the next play. But it wasn't nervousness he felt. He was being bitter for another reason. His longtime partner, Kimura Tatsunari, was about to leave. He can't do that, can he? 

Kenta knew why did he want to do that, and he agreed that he would do the same, but it still hurt. He couldn't believe it. It was just.. too much. 

He was overthinking it, he knew. It was not like he'll never see Kimura again. They were friends outside the production, they hang out on regular basis. But it was strange not to see His partner everyday like he did for the past years. He'll miss working with Kimura. He truly will. 

Kimura wasn't happy to leave either, but it was His decision to leave. He told Kenta this When they met this weekend outside the studio. He didn't mean to upset Kenta. He just wanted to tell him because Kenta was his close friend. 

But that didn't help much. That hurt even more, for a reason Kenta was too embarrassed to admit. He loved that he may be a bit special to Kimura. He was the number one. Or he used to be. He feared that he'll lose this place soon. Kimura is going to work on another project, he'll meet new people. He'll forgot Kenta even existed. That broke Kenta's heart. 

He didn't want to lose him. 

He was so deep in his thoughts he didn't even realise when someone opened the door. He just kept swinging his legs and pouted, trying to hold back His Tears. 

"Kenta?" He heard someone call his name. He turned around in shock. 

"What are you doing here?" Asked Kimura, who was now standing right in front of him. "It's late. Everyone is gone now." 

"I don't want to go." Kenta said. "Please leave." He didn't want him to leave, but he needed to be alone. He didn't want to cry in front of his partner.

But Kimura did not leave. Instead, he moved closer and kneed in front of him. "What happened?" He asked in concern. "You look pale."

Kenta burried his face in his hands. He hated how kind and caring Kimura could get whenever he was feeling down. He hated how well Kimura knew him. 

"It's nothing." He lied. But Kimura was too close and his voice cracked in middle of his sentence. 

He heard a sight and then a pair of hands on his ones. He peeked at Kimura with red eyes. He already started crying. 

Kimura was looking at him. He was worried. 

It wasn't often that Kenta cried. He was always the cheerful boy, the literal sunshine to everyone. Most of the time there wasn't anything to cry for. But this time was worth crying. 

"Shh.." Kimura ruffled his hair and leaned close to whisper to him. "It's okay. I'm here." 

That made Kenta sob even louder. Kimura was telling him he's there. But he knew he won't be anymore if something happened. 

New tears flooded down his cheeks. He couldn't stop them, once they escaped his eyes. He held back for a long time now. He tried not to cry, tried to tell himself It's okay. Because it wasn't really that terrible, but it felt ten times worse than it actually was. 

Noone was sad, only Kenta. Noone shared his sadness in the production. 

Kimura stood up and took Kenta to his arms. It suprised the boy so much he stopped crying. Kimura squeezed him tightly. "Tell me what happened." He whispered again, pleading. 

Kenta stayed quiet. He wanted to tell him, but when he opened his mouth, only a whine escaped His mouth. So he squeezed Kimura too, nuzzling into the taller boy's chest. Please, dont go.

He probably said that out loud, because Kimura immediatelly reacted. "That's why you're so sad. You dont want me to go?" He asked in a soft quiet voice. Kenta didn't answer. Only sobbed. 

"You know i'm not doing it on purpose." He continued, sounding a bit irritated. "I dont want to leave either. Playing with you is the most fun." As he told this to his small partner, he rubbed a hand down his back. "And i wont be long. I promise i'll return as soon as i can." 

Kenta let go to look Kimura into his eyes. His perfect blue eyes. He'll miss looking into them, and the way these eyes look back at him, full of joy and excitement. "Can i go with you?" He asked. 

"What are You talking about?" Kimura chuckled at this idea. "You belong here. They don't have any place left, either. But don't worry. Your new Kageyama won't be that bad. He's a cool guy," he comforted him. "And You make friends easily."

"That's not it." Kenta opposed. He was sure that the new guy won't be that bad, but that was another issue. It will be strange to start off with another member, but that was not the problem at all. Why couldn't Kimura get it? 

"Then what? Look. I can tell You're thinking and all. But i won't know what's brothering You until You tell me." He said in a calm voice. "Please tell me. I want to make You feel better." Kenta's heart squeezed. 

"Then stay.." he said in a broken voice. He immediatelly regreted it, but it was too late, because Kimura was leaning down, closing the distance between their lips.

He kissed him slowly, carefully, trying not to scare him. He shocked Kenta, but when he realised whats happening, he smiled and kissed back.

"I told You i can't stay." Kimura told him with a hint of a smile on his lips. "But that doesn't mean we will stop seeing each other." He reassured the other boy. He sat back down. Kenta followed him and sat onto his lap. "We can meet everyday after work. We can spend the whole holidays together." 

That would be nice, Kenta though as he cuddled to His partner. They used to meet like this before, too. But it would be better now, When they shared the same feeling. "I want to spend all of my time with You." Kenta said to him. He meant it. 

Kimura wrapped his arms around the other boy and rocked them from side to side to calm him. "Me too. And dont worry, when i finish my job, i'll come back to You. If not in Haikyuu production, we can still play together."

Kenta dried away his tears and smiled at him. "You promise?" 

Kimura knew where was his partner going with this and so he played along. "Yes. We'll meet at the top again. Even if it takes You ten or twenty years, i'll wait. And we'll work together again." He said and then,  "I Love You." And to prove the point, he kissed Kenta sweetly on his forehead.

Kenta kissed him too, on his cheek, nose and lips. "Love You too." He whispered against Kimura's skin over and over.
