I believe that realism is “the easiest” result to achieve when you’re drawing. You need to develop your observation and pencil control skills.  It can take some time, more for some, less for others. But, with the right amount and time of PPP (Practice, Patience, and Perseverance), virtually everyone can develop them. That makes them relatively easy to achieve. Those are also essential skills to learn for any artist. In addition to that, you use a reference. That way everything you need to complete the work is right in front of your eyes. It’s just a matter of transferring what you see to the paper as similar to the reference as possible, with no interpretation, no stylization. Being the “easier thing to do”, observation drawings are excellent for practice with new material. Free from the stress of thinking about what to draw, you can focus on experimenting, testing, and stretching the boundaries of the newly acquired material. I used the same paper texture I applied before, but This time I tried changing the HB pencil settings. I tried lots of settings to find the setup that gives me the result I like.  The best part is being able to use the same brush as an eraser, so you can push the tones back and forth. In conclusion: - experiment with new materials without fear - when experimenting, draw something you’re familiar with, take as many obstacles as possible out of the way, and focus on the experiment - observation is essential for EVERYONE - learning to draw requires 3 P’s: practice, patience, and perseverance.
