My headcanon about merchant!therion is that he suffered all the same shit he did in canon but is very open about it. Because he uses it to gain sympathy from customers. He drives a hard bargain

Also also I think in a world where 10yo Therion ended up in Clearbrook instead of Riverford and babby Alfyn befriended him as a kid he'd end up a merchant if he wasn't a scholar.

‘ Let’s sleep! ‘ - @ofchevalerie​ | two words

It was the group’s consensus, that it was early enough to call it a night after finally having escorted their final companion to her destination. Primrose had gotten her revenge and it was sweet the way she seemed to come to terms with everything when she’d slaughtered the man that had once been someone so near and dear to her heart. Especially given that Alfyn seemed more at ease knowing that the man who’d nearly done in their alluring friend was suffering for what he did. Somewhere…. Therion had made sure to stay behind with some of the more innocent of their party. The other five could easily take on a stupid dandy. So when they’d cheered and drunk their fill of what Therion had earned ( stolen ) from the nobles in the building, it had been time to retire to rooms in their groups of two.

Of course, Alfyn had decided in his semi-drunken state, that carrying his light-weighted boyfriend to their room with the sole intention of only curling up with him and sleeping and not messing around with one another. Whatever Therion’s idea of celebrating was didn’t seem to matter because Alfyn was far too insistent on being in their sleep clothes and spooning up with the thief for anything else to happen.

Therion didn’t mind in the end. He had some to drink, and while he was in full use of his faculties, he was quickly swallowed by limbs and quiet breathing across his neck that lulled him into a semi-new state of bliss. Before now no one had been allowed to lay behind him, or so much as touch him while he slept. Now he found that some nights he had issues falling asleep if he couldn’t feel the other breathing on him. A quiet reminder that he wasn’t alone and that his favorite person had decided to stay where he could reach.

Falling asleep here was almost as good as waking up in Alfyn’s lap in the morning, the apothecary doing his best not to wake him up while he prepped poultices and whatever else they could potentially need for the next day. The kiss that he’d get when he realized that Therion was awake truly was the best part of this arrangement.

He’d pretend to sleep through the day if it meant he got more of them when he woke. They always rained when the apothecary was worried. It was mean… but Therion was touch starved.

Therion 100% had an Eevee he accidentally turned into a Flareon because the shiny red stone he didn’t know was a fire stone, was too good not to steal, and he obviously let his Eevee, who he more than likely keeps out of the ball, hold on to it.

while writing the sleeping HCs I wrote something about Agnea needing a lot of time to brush out her hair and my brain was like "yeah sure, silly hair care headcanons be upon ye" so here we are (edition: both games!):

Ophilia: Takes very good care of her hair, but doesn't do anything fancy or special, Ophilia's hair just looks really nice if she's consistent with brushing and combing it. Tangles a bit, but not terribly (Lianna's hair tangles something fierce, and Ophilia got really good at brushing it out without causing any pain). Let's one of the nuns or Lianna cut her hair, and is generally fine with one of the other travelers cutting it (Primrose almost always does because she's fascinated by how soft and silky Ophilia's hair is with so little effort).

Cyrus: Despite his best efforts, his hair tangles fairly easily. Brushes and combs it regularly, but doesn't actually worry that much about how it looks (although it always ends up looking very nice, which Cyrus is of course, not aware of). Ties it back to keep it out of his face while reading, but honestly has more loose strands than not. Absolutely attempts to cut his own hair to save himself time, which is why the length is so uneven, and yet it still somehow manages to look nice when he's finished.

Tressa: Has a sort of undercut style where she can tie the longer top layer up underneath her hat and keep it all out of her face at once, but still wanted the option to wear her hair long and loose if she wanted (listen, the official artworks are inconsistent with Tressa's hair, this is the best explanation I have). More interested in selling hair tonics than using them herself, and actually has a fairly simple hair care routine. Hair doesn't tangle easily and is thin enough Tressa can get by with just a comb most days. Prefers to let her parents cut her hair, and will only let Primrose or Ophilia cut it while traveling (doesn't mind letting barbers cut her hair, but only after she's inspected their past work thoroughly).

Olberic: Wavy hair, but keeps it slicked back with a tonic to keep it out of his face (used to keep it shorter when he was younger, and then decided to grow it out on a whim when he realized it wouldn't be too hard to keep out of his face). Hair hardly tangles, but Olberic's pretty regular about combing it so it doesn't have much of a chance to tangle in the first place (all his personal grooming habits come from his knight training). Usually just gets it cut at a barber's, will let the other travelers cut it though.

Primrose: Has the most complex hair care routine, although her hair isn't naturally inclined to tangles. Would prefer to cut her own hair, but allows others to cut it depending on the situation (enjoys taking care of other people's hair though). Brushes and combs it before going to sleep and after waking up despite the fact that her hair rarely tangles while she's asleep. Hair starts to curl in humid environments, and is incredibly thick and strong.

Alfyn: Hair hardly tangles but this isn't obvious because it looks like a mess at any given time (his hair is just wavy/curly). Uses a tonic that sort of acts like a gel so he can get most of the shorter strands up and out of his face. Alfyn's hair is thin enough that it looks smooth and lays flat when he ties it back, but it would look nothing short of a lion's mane if he let it all loose. Aside from the tonic, doesn't really do anything special with his hair. Will ask whoever's around for a trim when he needs one.

Therion: Hair doesn't tangle often which is a miracle considering he doesn't always brush it daily. Not too fussy about his hair, except when he needs to disguise himself, but doesn't neglect it either (in general is very good about his own personal health, he did after all somehow manage to recover from a very steep fall seemingly alone). Therion also cuts his own hair and refuses to let anyone else cut it. Begrudgingly lets some of the other travelers brush it when they ask, but only after traveling together for several months.

H'aanit: Doesn't have a fancy routine but is very careful with brushing, combing, and braiding her hair (it's not practical for hunting, she just likes keeping her hair long). Hair is thick and a bit frizz-prone, and therefore a pain to brush out if it tangles. Linde wants to join when she realizes H'aanit is doing "social cat things (ft: grooming)" and gets brushes when H'aanit finishes with her own hair. Cuts her own hair, but only because Z'aanta failed Once at cutting her hair nicely when she was younger (also cuts Z'aanta's hair).

Ochette: Hair doesn't tangle as easily as one might expect, but Ochette also takes a fair amount of time to brush and comb it as part of her personal grooming routine, which she takes very seriously. Beastling brushes are designed in a way that she can brush both her tail and hair, and she probably brushes Akala as well (Mahina preens her own feathers, but will do so at the same time that Ochette is taking care of her hair). Doesn't mind tying her hair back, but only if it's a bit loose. Cuts her own hair, isn't too fussy about how good it looks, but usually it comes out really nicely. Enjoys helping others with their hair a lot too (used to brush Juvah's mane a lot).

Castti: Prefers to keep her hair tied back out of her face, and will also sleep with it tied back. Absolute mess of tangles if she sleeps with it loose or gets caught by the wind, and it takes her forever to brush it out afterwards. Makes her own hair tonic and tries to keep up with her hair for health purposes (although she sometimes forgets to brush it regularly if she's had a rough load of work). Will usually ask someone else to cut her hair, and Eir's Apothecaries used to take turns cutting each other's hair, but will also just try and hack off the split ends herself is no one is around (hair length is a bit uneven when she does this).

Throne: Incredibly fussy about her hair, and very particular about her hair care routine (it helps calm Throne's nerves, and gave her a bit of personal freedom early in her life). Had to learn to cut her own hair because of the looming threat of internal assassination attempts, and isn't keen on letting other people cut it for her as a result. Throne's hair is about average for how much it does or doesn't tangle, although her hair is naturally very silky so it's easy to remove the tangles.

Osvald: He keeps it long because it's wavy and frizzy enough to be an absolute horror of bushy curls if it's cut too short, and finds it easier to tie back when he's researching. Brushes his hair regularly as a habit to keep up with his personal health, but doesn't really care much about how it looks. Osvald's also bad about getting the split ends cut, and only gets his hair trimmed when someone offers to do it for him (Rita used to take care of trimming his hair). Tangles fairly easily and takes some time to brush out (was the worst after his two-day trip passed out in the ice boat). Very picky about how he keeps his facial hair though.

Partitio: Hair would tangle a bit if he grew it any longer, but Partitio's hair is also thick enough that taking care of it while it's longer is more of a hassle than it's worth. Uses a tonic to slick it back, although his hair's wavy-curly enough to need a fair amount of tonic. Takes good care of his hair, since he knows having a professional appearance is just as important in making a sale as the quality of the products being sold, and was taught all his hair care routines from Roque. Usually just relies on the local barber to cut his hair, and has had varying results from other barbers he's encountered on his travels (after a particularly bad haircut, Throne convinced him to trust her with cutting his hair, which actually worked out due to her precision).

Agnea: Wakes up with the worst bedhead and it takes her a good while to brush it out. In general, her hair is very prone to tangling which is why Agnea keeps it braided most of the time. Surprisingly thin hair, but this isn't obvious unless it's braided because Agnea's hair is very wavy and looks like it has a lot of body to it. Agnea takes good care of her hair though, and travels with a few different tonics to keep it healthy. Pala and Agnea cut each other's hair, typically, although Garud used to cut their hair when they were younger.

Temenos: His hair rarely tangles, and he really just needs a comb to keep it in order. One of the clerics was the designated hair-cutter in the church where he and Roi were raised, but Temenos decided to start cutting his own hair in his early teens and has refused to let anyone touch it since (insists this has nothing to do with the fact that one of the other cleric's had their ear snipped on accident). At first his self-cut hair was a mess, but he's become quite proficient. Doesn't really do anything special otherwise though.

Hikari: Very soft and smooth hair, although it means Hikari needs a hair tie coated in a special substance to keep the tie from slipping out when he ties it back. Takes incredibly good care of his hair as a matter of discipline and routine. It doesn't tangle easily, but is easy enough to comb out when it does. For reasons Hikari hasn't figured out, almost everyone he's met wants to comb his hair if he's okay with it, despite him being perfectly capable of the task himself.

8 - TRESSA COLZIONE (Honesty, Prosperity, and the Undying) - Contract-maker with deadly binding deals that ruin lives and punish those amassing fortune - Has the inexplicable ability to show up only when people are in need of the deals she offers - and many people happen to be in need of that - Is also a haunter of ships. At times she is the cause of tempests on the high seas - new ship graveyards have appeared because of her boredom - Deterrents: Marina and Olneo Colzione ○ Perhaps the easiest of the Travelers to reach out to given both her unstable nature and the fact that she was the youngest and first out of all of them to die, but chasing her down is a challenge comparable to Therion's ordeal

7 - THERION (Unreachable Conquest) - Steals more than just material objects now. Lost souls, lost people, lost nations are now part of the hoard - Also comes and goes in the dead of the night - the locations that he is known to have stolen from are all inflicted with nasty insomnia - Specifically avoids high places like the Highlands and the Cliftlands - particularly its highroads. Some are rescued by his hand should they fall by accident (or on purpose) - Deterrent: None, later Tressa Colzione ○ Lingering distrust in the Ravus household - his last meaningful connection before dying to Galdera, other than the Travelers - meant that Therion could not be reached, unless any one of the other Travelers were recovered first as they are the only people he truly trusts with his life. Even if the other Travelers are the ones to reach out to him, he will do his utmost to resist and uh - good luck trying to even catch him

6 - H'AANIT (Wrath of the Successors) - Haunter of the woods and progenitor of monsters - may or may not be cultivating entirely new species that thrive on blood - May or may not be wearing Linde's skin. If the skin is touched without permission, she goes on a rampage. - Is the reason boss monsters like the Devourers of Man and Beast and Direwolves prowl around more often - Deterrent: Z'aanta ○ Like Cyrus, the hardest part about reaching H'aanit is surviving her onslaught - the beasts that rampage the lands are things that even Z'aanta has trouble facing alone. The lack of Linde doesn't help matters.

5 - PRIMROSE AZELHART (Delusions of Grandeur) - Siren-like figure who operates in the shadows to seduce people to their cause; binds generational curses to her victims - Operates under a harmless guise like Ophilia - unlike Ophilia, doesn't have any reservations regarding recruitment methods - Haunts brothels and taverns out of a twisted sense of sympathy for the workers - Deterrent: Revello Forsythe ○ In spite of Primrose's bleak ending she still at least has past connections to ground her - but it will take a LOT of convincing, so sometimes Revello doesn't act alone in trying to reach out to her. Arianna and Odette are along for the ride when the situation is particularly dire

4 - OLBERIC EISENBERG (Isolation in Quiet Suffering) - Holes himself away inside a mountain and becomes an immortal legend that arises only when challengers approach his domain - Likely the most sane out of all of them, but is so isolated and consumed with grief that you wouldn't really be able to tell the difference - Never acts unless provoked to the point of fury. WOULD be the least harmful out of all of them if not for his strength - Deterrents: Erhardt and Philip ○ Erhardt is to Olberic as Odette is to Cyrus - being one of the only people who really understand Olberic to his core. The problem with this is the tragedies that Erhardt himself has caused, and with Olberic's sense of loss being elevated to dangerous extremes, balancing this out with Philip representing the future he swore to protect is pretty much his best bet at reaching him

3 - ALFYN GREENGRASS (Salvation and Guilt) - Silent plaguemaster who spreads poison and ills like a walking pandora's box among the lands - Comes and goes in the dead of the night. He has no set pattern for this, sometimes entire towns just end up rotting overnight - The poisons he sets also fuck up the local environment, and unlike Cyrus he can hide his presence - so he ends up being more of a pain to deal with - Deterrent: Zeph ○ Zeph COULD reach Alfyn fairly easily given Alfyn's core nature being masked over rather than overwritten entirely. The problem is actually managing to find Alfyn before he poisons a town to death, and even then you'd have to deal with his overriding guilt first

2 - CYRUS ALBRIGHT (Reckoning with the Last Stand) - Obscures information through uncontrollable bursts of magic, destroying histories through unbridled destruction - Best treated as a walking natural calamity. Nobody knows how he sustains himself in there. - An incomprehensible babbling mess - sometimes he quotes From The Far Reaches of Hell and other hellish tomes and sometimes it's just apologies - Deterrent: Odette ○ Outside of the other Travelers, Odette is the sole person who understands how Cyrus works. The most difficult part about reaching Cyrus is surviving the calamities he brings

1- OPHILIA CLEMENT (Alone, alone, alone) - Mindt-like figure who guides the lost and weary into their arms so they can spread Galdera's influence further - Basically Ceraphina again? Then again Ceraphina is how deadly cults work - Alongside Primrose is the one to operate under a guise, they probably work together sometimes to poison the Order of the Sacred Flame from the inside - Deterrent: Lianna Clement ○ Very much the only person who can reach her at this low point, but the most that the Deterrents can do is minimize their influence over their victims by taking advantage of their slight lapses of judgment ○ Lianna herself still being in recovery after the events of Ophilia 4 needs a lot of time bring Ophilia back. Her sympathizing somewhat with the Traveler's conditions doesn't help despite her inherent distaste for what they have become ○ Ophilia being the last of the Travelers to be killed also poses a hard challenge for anyone trying to reach her given all she has witnessed and gone through while inside the Gate of Finis

also he was by far the guy who was giving me the most trouble in my therion solo. i died to him like 50 or so times and i enjoyed every moment of it because at least he was there with me :)

Besides the alfion and primrose dynamics I do like the general dynamic of the “PATH” travelers. They’re the disastrous double-date to the chaotic family road trip of the “OCTO” travelers.

Tressa and Therion are really funny to think about. They bicker, a lot. The natural rivalry of merchant/thief.

Even though I knew it was coming I did gasp when Darius pushed him off the cliff. 

I feel like he is one of the characters who would benefit from the concept of the travelers interacting with one another and discussing that outside of travel banter, as much as I like the Cordelia-Heathcoat trust, I don’t think that was enough for him to suddenly have faith in people again. I think the unwavering found family he hypothetically gained.

I get why he’s the most popular character in the fandom. He is a tragic edgy boy. The rough exterior soft interior somehow never gets old

Of course Cordelia and Heathcoat depended on him, and I think even after he returned the dragon stones, they stayed in contact and asked each other for aid time and again. 

I think in a group of a lot of yes-men (Alfyn, Ophilia, Tressa, Cyrus) it’s really helpful (while not always appreciated) to have a loud and stubborn “No man”. (Trust issues suck but they do come in hand) 

Also in The Travelers, I think everyone depends on everyone. No one is not doing their part in the group project y’know.

He had his purple scarf before Darius, which means it’s something he’s had for a long time. Possibly a remnant of their parents, or maybe the first thing besides food that they stole for himself.

They don’t. Therion is the type to feel emotions and then immediately repress them. He is a trainwreck of trauma repression, and I think it takes him a long time to feel comfortable expressing himself again, even after traveling with the octogang for a long time. He’s the type to have a bad day and punch a tree. I think once he gets some healthier coping mechanisms in him they’ll open up little by little, especially to Alfyn and Primrose.

With one eye open. He is on guard. You know how people say that for some animals sleeping openly is a sign of trust. It’s the same for him. He stays on watch until he’s certain no one is up to stab him and run. When he does sleep, it’s rough. A single noise can wake him, and he has constant flashes of Darius, the cliff incident, and other people who’ve probably treated him horribly. It’s not a fun time until let’s say it together now “he gets healthier coping mechanisms”.  

When he does gain a healthier sleep schedule, he sleeps more peacefully but is still a light sleeper and an early riser. 

He also goes to bed later because anyone can tell you it’s easier to steal in the dark.

for the longest time ive had an hc that postgame alfyn and therion accidentally adopt a cat (broke into their house and therion was like 'we cant keep it' and then did) and then they name her linde. and then one day h'aanit visits with big linde. and therion is embarrassed but h'aanit thinks its hilarious

How to stand up properly, talk properly, be able to talk to people without pissing them off. Eat and drink without looking like an animal. Read and write.

And in turn he learns how to lift with his knees, not back. Best ways around town, best ways to tail people, get away from people, step softly, move silently

Not that he already didn’t know how to do the last two. But Therion walks like he’s floating and Darius doesnt. So he learns to do better.

It’s why their relationship was pretty good at first. Therion didn’t know math and division well. Do a few coins missing here or there wouldn’t be noticed. And Darius had things he wanted from Therion.

And Therion listened to Darius because he was learning from him.

But when they became more equal, things went sour, because they both knew better now.

Therion can count the missing coins. And he no longer listens to Darius as much.

I’m here stuck with Darius holding theiron’s hand teaching him how to write letters

The cycle continues but Therion breaks it, but it still does continue via Gareth

I like the idea of Darius taking a shine to Gareth and teaching him, too, but Gareth is more obedient. Until it takes Gareth’s life.

Because by then Darius is a “lord” and he’s as every bit as bad as his father.

I like to also think that Gareth was the one teaching the others in the gang the things he’s learned

And that’s why they care about him and not about Darius

OTP: primphilia, as well famously revealed not two weeks ago. i like yuri and i like narrative parallels so uh. not a huge surprise there

brOTP: therion!!! i love those two weird knife fighters. they're best friends actually

Favourite Dynamic: prim's chapter one came out SWINGING with really strong characterization both for prim and for her side characters, so i honestly have to say yusufa for this one. weird, considering that she's introduced in the same chapter as her death, but like. it's a very strong dynamic

Queer HC's: i think she's bi and demiromantic on vibes and vibes alone (i also think that she wasn't romantically attracted to simeon, per se. ophilia was her first time dealing with That)

Random HC: she buried yusufa before leaving for stillsnow because she would NOT leave her dead body there for the birds and the buzzards. also she took some of the cloth from her outfit, and it sits at her belt, wrapped around the scabbard of the Azelhart Dagger

General Opinion: distinctly very biased due to The Gender Envy (her voice...) but i LOVE prim. i always like characters who are a little lost in life and prim is fully committing to that bit. plus, girlboss, and all that, blah blah blah

8. prim is interesting because i think her greatest stressor is also the thing she would think to go to when she's stressed (the house azelhart motto), but other than that, i think she'll just dance when she's alone. moving around does help, at times

9. grins and bears it. you could punch her directly in the face and you'd cut your knuckles on her teeth cuz she'd have a chesire smile on her face the entire time

10. sitting down, with her back against as many walls or wall-adjacent things like trees as possible. i dont think she can sleep standing up (she did grow up in a noble household), but i think she has tried to.
