Things Sohinki has also said on stream before about Smosh lol: 1) He & Lasercorn used to edit each like 5 videos per week at the beginning. 2) As a result OG SG voice is mostly him and Lasercorn. 3) SG right now is trying to replicate what they did in the past but they're not successful at it. What was distinctive was the sense of humor & a particular editing style. 4) Like a while ago he would still have done the summer games stuff if he was asked but now he wouldn't anymore.
holy crap that’s wild.... TOTALLY makes sense tho. i mean aside from “a particular sense of humor”, og sg had a very distinct, nerdy, Intense Gamer vibe, and by no means is current sg required to try and emulate that. but thing is, og sg was created as an alternative outlet for ian and anthony, it was used as a medium through which fans and cast members could connect over something as “taboo and nerdy” as video games. and that concept only got perverted when defy took advantage of what we had as a community and pushed the cast to pump out videos at a quicker pace.
and in whatever sg is doing now, i honestly don’t feel that same deep desire for connection. like, yes they want people to connect the same way all youtubers want fans to connect -- by hitting the notif bell, by giving a thumbs up, by leaving a comment down below of what you want to see next. but if i’m being frank, everything on sg right now feels EXTREMELY performative, all done with the sole purpose of doing what’s expected of them and keeping the fanbase. you’d at least think that sg on twitch would maybe establish a stronger connection between the cast and fans, but from what i heard about a recent smos/hcast episode, it’s more like they’re just ~letting fans get a taste of the on-set experience.~ and it’s like....... what’s the point of streaming on twitch if it’s not to connect with the people!!! like twitch is so different from youtube bc the interaction is a two-way street!! how do you stream on twitch and accept money from your fans and not think that the least you can do is read out the sub notifs and interact with the chat??? like i don’t understand???????
but to get on point here... i don’t know if i feel that same heart within current og. maybe heart just isn’t the point anymore, and i get it....... but that’s definitely one of the many reasons i can’t quite sit down and watch a sg video for fun nowadays.
